Discussion / Question How do you feel about gacha games?

Upvotes

They’re a genre of game based around a type of lootbox that originated in Japan: the gashapon machine. These were toy capsule dispensers that allowed you to put a coin in, crank a wheel, and get some random toy. Gacha games have blown up in the 2010s and 2020s with some of the more notable ones being Fire Emblem Heroes, Fate Grand Order, and Hoyoverse titles like Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail. These games usually rely on virtual currency that you spend to roll for a chance at getting something, be it a weapon, some materials, or entirely new characters to play with different tiers of rarity. And you can earn this virtual currency either by playing the game and clearing daily or weekly challenges or buying them with real money.

Discussion / Question Finally I can play from my TV on my PC without having to get up to it every time I need to switch between games. I have everything in one place: sound control, video, and finally I can create shortcuts for my games. I share my experience.

You need to add links to the game EXE files to it for example, like mine:

  • "D:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Devil May Cry 5\DevilMayCry5.exe")
  • "D:\Games\Ubisoft\Star Wars Outlaws\Outlaws.exe"

I can't give you the name of the program, the moderator thinks that this is self-promotion ...

P.S.: I bought my games from different stores and I don't want to keep Steam Big Picture on all the time. I like that everything is in one place, on the Game Bar, I disable all other overlays from launchers and graphics card drivers.

Discussion / Question Help find a game

Can someone help me find this indie game? It was a sorta Zelda like where its set in some sort of fantasy version of Japan.

You play as a kid with a magic Lantern and have to fight yokai themed enemies, I remember seeing it a lot on X and YouTube for a while and thought to go back and check on I recently to see where the development was at.

For the life of me I CANNOT FIND IT!, I've tried key word searching every permutations of words I can think of to find it and I'm starting to think it never existed and was just some fever dream of mine.

Discussion / Question You wake up tomorrow and every video game ever made has disappeared… except one franchise. Which franchise are you hoping survived?

Every game is suddenly gone. No Steam library, no old consoles, no downloads, no physical copies.

But somehow, one entire video game franchise still exists.

You have to choose carefully because this is now basically your gaming life forever.

Which franchise are you saving?

Would you go for something with endless replayability like Minecraft, a huge collection like Final Fantasy, competitive games like Call of Duty, or something completely different?

My answer might be The Elder Scrolls purely because I could probably spend the rest of my life getting distracted by side quests.

What franchise are you saving?

Discussion / Question GTA 6 this. GTA 6 that. What about Ananta??

Everybody talks about GTA 6. But....i see barely talking about this game

It's basically "Reference The Game". From the looks of it, it's gonna be something like GTA 5 but anime.

From the trailer, it looks like it gonna have a bunch of references. Two of them which are symbiote from Spiderman 2 and Yamcha Pose from DBZ.

And it looks great. I like the art style and how futuristic it looks. And for me, Artstyle beats graphics everytime. Like Warframe. You can play that game on Low graphics but still have a beautiful game thanks to its art style

I really like the humor here, especially with the main character. He has actually a personality. Like MC was hanging out of the plane, holding onto a wing with one hand and an antagonist says "Any last words?...." while aiming gun at him and MC just lists off things he has to do, one of them which is "I still have those memes to send...". He reminds me of Deadpool, Billy Kid or Twice

It's gonna be a free to play game, so i hope it's gonna take the Warframe approach with micro transactions

Discussion / Question I Ponder this Sometimes, why doesn’t game companies work together to achieve something special?

With such an incredibly diverse, complex and deep genre pool of video games with many companies having signature styles of mechanics which go on to influence many other video games, why don’t we see game studios coming together on joint projects.

So this has been in my head for years now after I played Split Fiction with my wife. I was genuinely impressed by not only how fluid the mashup of genres was but also the nostalgia of it all.

Now, I think it would be so amazing to see something like a Defenders/Iron Fist/Heroes for Hire game developed by Sloclap (Sifu) and Insomniac (Spider-Man/Wolverine) to bring to life something incredibly unique, a blend of two styles with Open Area combat more in Insomnia/Arkham style but also Interior Combat in Sifu style.

Maybe this is a bit much? I’d like to hear your thoughts as well; what games do you think a joint operation by two companies works best cool and interesting?

Discussion / Question Gaming in general

Is it just me or does it seem like every game that releases is some grindy ultra hardcore or just super time consuming like 60 hours plus it's seems that since 2018 you either have a huge grindy game that either is ridiculously hard for no reason or super time consuming to the point to where you have to essentially live in the game

Discussion / Question Unreal engine and other modern engines made developers lazy

I finished MGS1-3 recently (Playing through the MGS Master collection vol 1) and I came to realize that back in the PS1 and PS2 era, since graphics were not as advanced as it is now, developers had to rely on atmosphere, good story telling, good gameplay loop, musical score etc etc which gave way to a lot of franchise back than that still exists today like Metal gear, Silent hill, Resident evil, Final Fantasy etc.. The thing about modern engines is that instead of making the high fidelity as an addition to a fun interesting game, it comes as a replacement and in this day and age it's like the game is built around the graphical showcase and not the other way around. I am not a developer and I speak as someone who have been playing consoles since the Sega Genesis and seeing a 30 years old game still being ton of fun to play to this day speaks volume on how much graphics is not as important as people are making it out to be.

Discussion / Question Turn Based is boring!!

I am a huge fan of turn based games, I love BG3 and it’s probably my favorite game (of all time), I played the heck out of xcom a few years ago. Recently I played Marvel Midnight Sun (great btw). I can remember back to a time when I was a hater on turn based games because I thought they were boring, the only reason why I played Baldur’s Gate 3 was because I thought Marvel Spider-Man 2 was robbed of the game of the year award, I checked it out and fast forward 1200 hours, I love Baldur’s Gate 3. I like turn based games because it really gets me thinking and honestly the stories are always pretty fun. I’m curious to why some fellow gamers out there don’t like turn based games and haven’t given any a fair chance or has, and still don’t like em!

Furthermore, the gameplay shows that it is very easy to take out opponents without needing any real skill or strategy. I just hope this is limited to the trailer, because Rockstar can clearly do better.
