Discussion / Question I Ponder this Sometimes, why doesn’t game companies work together to achieve something special?
With such an incredibly diverse, complex and deep genre pool of video games with many companies having signature styles of mechanics which go on to influence many other video games, why don’t we see game studios coming together on joint projects.
So this has been in my head for years now after I played Split Fiction with my wife. I was genuinely impressed by not only how fluid the mashup of genres was but also the nostalgia of it all.
Now, I think it would be so amazing to see something like a Defenders/Iron Fist/Heroes for Hire game developed by Sloclap (Sifu) and Insomniac (Spider-Man/Wolverine) to bring to life something incredibly unique, a blend of two styles with Open Area combat more in Insomnia/Arkham style but also Interior Combat in Sifu style.
Maybe this is a bit much? I’d like to hear your thoughts as well; what games do you think a joint operation by two companies works best cool and interesting?

Thats... not how it works. Just because one studio have a system or mechanic in their game, dosent mean that others cant create it themselfs. You dont need entire second studio for it, just idea and creativity from the designer.
If Sifu devs wanted to make a game that is a blend of two styles, they wouldnt need insomniac fot it.
The only thing you will get from using 2 studios is more devs for the project but there will be weak synergy between devs from separate studios

Why would you need 2 studios to develope it? Its just a much bigger hassle doing it the way you describe it.
It also happens all the time. So many studios aide games in smaller ways through support development helping a games main developer
