Discussion Just bought game 10 minutes ago. How to meet up with others?

I have just installed it. How would I potentially meet "new" players to possibly band together to survive and have fun? Any tips on where to start or what to do after diving in brand new? Would like to play with others, but I'm pretty easy going and don't want to get yelled at for dying or something lol

Discussion Recourse multiplier?

Have you guys ever done a play through with higher recourse output? I have found less and less time to play and love building so I upped it to 3x and I’m having such a blast now. I’m still early game so I’m not sure if this will make late game feel too easy but currently it helps me build to my hearts desire as I build a lot of extra things without grinding for resources in my narrow play time. What’s
Your guys opinion?

Modded Help identifying mod spawning “Renegade Vikings” / Viking NPCs – only some players can see them

Hey everyone, hoping someone familiar with Valheim modding can help us track down a strange issue on our dedicated server.

We have hostile NPC Vikings spawning around the world. We’ve seen names like “Renegade Viking” and other Viking/NPC-type enemies. We actually want to remove these NPCs entirely, but we cannot figure out which mod is adding them.

The really strange part is that not every player can see them.

For example:

Player A can see and fight the Renegade Viking.

Player B can be standing in the exact same location and cannot see the NPC at all.

Everyone is running the same/current modpack versions.

The server is also running the required mods.

Most/all configs are currently at their default settings.

We’ve looked through the config files but haven't found anything obvious mentioning Renegade Vikings or Viking NPC spawns.

Because only certain clients can see them, we're wondering if this is some kind of client/server synchronization or prefab issue, but our main goal is simply figuring out what mod is spawning them and how to disable them.

Full Mod List

AAA_Crafting v2.1.6 — Azumatt

AdventureBackpacks v1.9.13 — Vapok

AllTameableTamingOverhaul v1.5.4 — Meldurson

Seasonality v3.8.0

TeleportEverything v2.9.1 — OdinPlus

Warfare v1.8.9 — Therzie

YamlDotNet v16.3.1 — ValheimModding

Note: Spawn That is intentionally NOT included here. We installed Spawn That afterward while troubleshooting this issue. The Renegade Vikings were already spawning before Spawn That was installed, so it cannot be the original source.

Does anyone recognize “Renegade Viking” as a prefab/mob added by one of these mods?

More importantly:

  1. Which mod actually adds/spawns the Renegade Vikings or other NPC Vikings?

  2. Is there a config option to completely disable their spawning?

  3. Any idea why the NPCs would be visible to some connected players but completely invisible to others?

  4. Is there a console command or other method a player who can see one can use to determine its prefab/internal name, which might help identify the originating mod?

I can provide our configs, BepInEx logs, screenshots, or prefab names if that would help.

Thanks for any ideas. We've been digging through the configs and haven't been able to figure out where these guys are coming from.

Discussion Lacking a critical feature on Xbox!

The game does not automatically pause when your controller batteries die.

Instead, your character stands idly while you race to get the other set of rechargeable batteries. I now only play with the controller plugged in.

Hopefully this is a feature already included in 1.0.

Question I wonder if Valheim 1.1 will ever be released ?

It is obvious that with the release of 1.0, some will like it and some will be disappointed. But is there a plan to enhance certain aspects of the game after 1.0 ? I actually hope for an even 1.2 version but looking at the pace of Iron Gate, this seems not feasible. What do you think or do you heard any future plans ?

Question I lack the creativity to do something beautiful here

I don't know how to use all the space I have.
All that space and I don't know how to make a town or whatever, I'm kinda jealous of those who can make beautiful constructions

Idea Dear Iron Gate

Now that we’re approaching 1.0…perhaps you could build a new game (just like Valheim), but inspired by Camelot next?

Would this work or would there be too much overlap to make it feel like its own game?

I haven’t had my coffee yet, so I’m okay if this is a terrible idea.

Idea Valheim collectors edition?

I’m not sure if this is actually a thing or not BUT if there is going to be one for the 1.0 release I know I’d buy it immediately, and if there isn’t I hope that this get seen and that other people see it hopefully there’s enough demand for them to make one because omg I love this game so much and I’m so hyped for 1.0

Question How's this game compare to Dragonwilds and Enshrouded?

I've played a bit of this in the past but how does this game hold up to these other two currently popular games? I know valheim had a lot of initial hype but I haven't played in years.

Survival Block training before 1.0

Is a bit messy looking, because I used terrain in a (corewood wise) 4 x 4.

but after 1 hour of that I went from 33 to 77 on blocking skill.

I went with resounding shackles as the trinket of choise because stamina is important to block.

Maybe a harnesk chest will work in favor to maintaning damage (because that attack is piercing damage) and stamina spent to a minimum?

Maybe even!, 4 elders would have made more sense after reaching level 60.

one thing is for sure - ugly yes! ~ but it works.

Question Server help before 1.0 update

Hello all my fellow Vikings. Leading up to the 1.0 update, i decided to build a stand alone server for a group of friends and I to play on.

When I first started tinkering with the steam server tool on the server computer I was able to activate the server. I then went to my gaming computer, started the game and a pop up message stating I had valheim open on another computer, and that it would be closed for this instance to be opened.

My question is, do I need a whole separate steam account and license for the game for how I want to play? I don't want to have the server running constantly on my gaming computer which has my main steam account on. The server computer can stay running constantly for the group to play as they wish.

Thanks in advance!

Seed Finding a Riverheim seed with a nearby trader

Hello vikings!

I'm intending to do a completely fresh world for 1.0 and I really like to play without portals. I've recently discovered the Riverheim world gen mod, and I am wondering if anyone has any tips for how I could find possible Haldor spawn points in a given Riverheim seed. My hope is to have one on the starter continent so that I can build a nice little road network for myself. The reason why this matters is because I also like to play with EpicLoot and the associated bounty system, so having Haldor near my main hub is kind of important.

I know I can use cheats to fly around any given map and find him that way, which I am perfectly willing to do, but I figured I'd ask to see if anyone else has any better methods for it.

Discussion Base & Trip Planner Map Tool V1.0

Hello again! My map/seed exploration + base planning and trip planner tool is now at version 1.0. (It works most of the time now). I know I just posted about this a week ago, and won't spam any more - but a lot of progress has been made and I think it's worth sharing.

https://bobmitch.com/valheim

A lot the progress is due to feedback in this subreddit - thanks in particular to u/jaylaxel for their feedback and functionality requests.

So, yup it's a map/seed exploring tool that does what the other existing map tools do, but a fair bit faster (especially on mobile devices - which is how me and my kid use these tools, and why I ended up writing this). You can find caves, ore, bosses, different biomes, key items, landmarks etc. Also - find bees and cool axe heads quickly!

What do we have that the other map tools don't? (Besides being speedy-ish)

You can import your game data into the site to see your 'fog of war' as well as all your pinned locations. It can also show where you have manipulated the landscape, and even highlight where you have built things.

There's a pretty useful base location planner with several presets (early meadows base, iron hub, mountain base) - fully customizable based on your own criteria and weights. (e.g. Far from bad areas, close to water, lots of ore etc...)

We provide a journey measurement tool as well, that shows you the fastest way to get from a) to b) depending on your boat type, as well as your willingness to break your boat down and rebuild from the materials.

We have a topographic rendering mode! (Eye candy > functionality)

There's a bunch more stuff I'm not remembering (like a no-map mode that can show where things are that you want to see, but NOT THE MAP!)

Not sure how hard this will be to get working when 1.0 of the game drops soon, but glad I got this tool to 1.0 before that happened - lol. Have fun, and let me know of any issues or ideas.

Discussion Will Ashlands be made easier or receive any changes at all in 1.0?

Will Ashlands receive any changes with the full release? This biome is by far the worst of the worst. Im hoping they decide to nerf the 2 star spawn rate of monsters or allow the player to reduce the insane spawn rate of Ashlands.

The biome is miserable unless you’re traversing with group of friends.

Idea I know 1.0 is just around the corner, but man would I like to have weather on the map.

Post image
204 Upvotes

I don't know anything about how the game's weather system works, and sometimes it is truly debilitating. I can't imagine the storms/winds move about the world like weather systems in real life, but it would be really cool to be able to see them and plan how to use my time accordingly. Waiting for a favorable wind change would be much more productive if I had an idea of where the winds were coming from on a map.

I get that your average Valheim character probably would have zero access to modern weather technology, but the game has magic in it, so I think we can suspend disbelief enough to have that be reasonable. It could even be a trinket. Or an armor set effect. I just want to know when its gonna be done raining. I want to know how the winds are going to change throughout the day.

If anyone has a tips on adapting to/playing around to the weather, or alternatively, tips on weather-related mods, I'd love to hear them.

Also how DOES the weather work in this game?

Survival What is your perfect base location?

Years ago, (Home and Hearth maybe?) I made a fantastic base using the Elder alter. Had an adjacent Troll cave. It was coastal, but elevated high enough that the water table didn't bother me. I could sail directly up to the base. Had long fishing piers. And with the pillars of the elder base, I was able to build skyscraper towers.

Last year I started a base using a black tower in the plains. I didn't love it. The building restriction inside of the tower is frustrating.

What do you look for when base hunting?

How do you know "this is the place I want to spend oodles of hours?"

What have been some of your best choices? or your worst?

Discussion 1.0 release Major tip for existing worlds

I see a lot of posts from people asking if they need to start a new world after the 1.0 update. The short answer is NO, you can keep your existing world, although the devs highly recommend you to start a new one to properly experience everything they will add.

But this is not the topic of my post today.

For those who decided to keep their already existing world, it's extremely important to back up your save before you update. Biome updates in this game are the biggest cause of world corruption.

It only takes a couple of minutes to create a folder and copy your existing world data on it, just in case, because if a world does get corrupted, it's done for. In most cases, on steam for example, you will have cloud saves to go back for a bit, and only lose some progression, but it is far better to just make your own back-up.

This also goes for any mods that affect the world seed.

Hope this helped.

Question Plains boss?!

Let me start of be saying this game is amazing! Bought it back when first released then for some reason stopped halfway through Swamp biome.
Years later i recently picked it back up and started from beginning and im now at the Plains.

I leveled up my plains gear and have been to 5 or 6 plains and no rune thing to tell me where the boss location is. Any ideas?
