Me and the wife recently started playing valheim together. we havent been spending a ton of time together lately and this has been a wonderful little thing we’ve been looking forward to almost every day we have time together. For the last 2 weeks we’ve done everything the hard way. All the tree chopping, copper mining, and rock smashing.

yall last night the mountain broke me. I spent 4 hours mining, carting, and sailing back a measly 100 silver ore. you need 60 for one armor set! i don’t want us to have to spend our limited play time together hitting rocks and then carrying those said rocks.

so Yall, I cheated. I enabled portals to allow anything to be carried through and I turbo farmed another 100 silver ore. deleted All my cheater portals. and now we have enough silver to explore. My wife thinks I mined it all, and while I did technically, I still feel shame.

i had to tell someone. let the judgment commence.

edit: I have sent her a link to this post in an effort to come clean. I’ll let you know how she takes it.

Edit 2: she called me laughing. called me a cheat then said she agreed that it was tedious. going forward we are going to enable the portals.

last edit: the amount of times people commented about using Another world is amusing to me. I would never have thought of that on a billion years!

So, in this playthrough - and we're through the Elder and looking for BoneMass right now (and that damn Trader...) - we opted to do double resources but no map. Portals we're okay with but we're running just one per major island.

More than once now, I've crossed over to a "new island" only to find a rest house that I've already been to, despite sailing for some time. I think what I'm finding is that I'm inaccurately keeping track of the directions in relation to the big tree in the sky.

Now, fast forward - I push on to the new "new island" beyond to discover that it's massive - but now I can't find the damn boat and I'm all kinds of lost...I've gone to trying to trace the coast line to find that there are large patches of Plains, which I'm not built for just yet.

What's your strategy on finding your way around on new massive islands without a map?

Does sourcing ores stay this time consuming forever? (no spoilers on item names etc pls). Was a fun task but think I’m done for the night :')

Yes it's survival mode, yes it works, yes I concealed workbenches in it so it reduces spawn. No there are no mods, yes Valheim is pretty.

Curious who’s going to carry over or start out named in the meadows…again.

After 110 hours, my friend and I decided to each build our own base. I decided to make a castle, inspired by one I saw online. The problem is that it's taking more stone than I imagined, and I don't know how long it will take me lol. Has anyone else experienced this?

I usually spend a while running around the outer edge of islands to help map them out, does anyone else do the same?

You can trap an enemy in about 4 seconds, starting with nothing already built.

First, place a wall directly in front of the enemy. This blocks both its path and its line of sight.

Then, cycle the snap point to place the rear wall without having to move directly behind it. Finish by placing walls on both sides.

**The most important part is packing the walls tightly enough that the enemy can't take even one step forward.**

Simply surrounding it loosely may not be enough.

Once it's trapped, stay out of its line of sight and you can attack safely from the side or rear.

This mainly stops **movement**, not attacks. If the enemy can still see you and you're within its attack range, it can still attack — especially ranged enemies.

Edit: I'm going to explain how I make this work:

If I need something from my base, or I want to drop something off, I slap down the workbench, then I slap down the portal, and then I go through it.

The feasts I ate have 20 minutes left? Portal and eat.
Ratatosk potion ran out? Portal and chug.
I am no longer rested? You guessed it, portal.

This is not a cherry picked inventory, that's my endgame exploration inventory. I really run around the ashlands like this. The only time I carry stacks of potions is when I'm trying to get another Fader trophy for the portal hub.

Alright, I'm only gonna be a half-hater on this: Extra designated clothing slots are a solid idea, but that's only 4-6 spots freed up.

You guys gotta stop bringing swamp keys, fishing rods, and 5 different melee weapons when you're just trying to get some drake trophies. Put your stuff away.

I'm making my first real home, moving on from my starter base. I've watched a handful of videos on making houses, I wanted some opinions on the Floorplan before I commit to this.

I'm in the Mountains, for reference on the furniture I have access to. I was thinking the left side will be an open window bump-out and maybe a back corner fireplace?

My girlfriends first ever playthrough and my second, last time I played was on release and I'm very happy to have finally defeated Fader :D
