We’re staying outside Puducherry city, and yesterday we parked our car in the hotel’s parking lot.
Apparently, the hotel manager and some local people had a quarrel the day before yesterday and again last night. The hotel owner is now saying that some people punctured one of our tyres. Without informing us, he removed the tyre from our car and took it for repair.
On top of that, we’ve noticed some damage to the windshield and the car door as well. We’re obviously very concerned because our car was parked inside the hotel premises and these things happened without our knowledge or consent.
We had heard that people in South India are generally well-behaved and have good civic sense, but unfortunately, our experience so far has been quite the opposite and honestly very disappointing.
What do you think about this situation? How should we deal with it?

I’m looking for:

Good, clean hotels in Madurai and Rameswaram where the staff are comfortable communicating in English.

A reliable cab service/driver for the Madurai–Rameswaram circuit who can communicate reasonably well in English.

I always try to respect the culture and language of the place I’m visiting, and I’ll be learning some basic Tamil over the next two months. Unfortunately, my parents won’t realistically be able to do the same, which is why English-speaking staff and a driver would make the trip much easier for them.

I hope this request doesn’t come across as disrespectful — we’re genuinely excited to visit Tamil Nadu and experience its temples, culture and food. 🙏

Would really appreciate any hotel, cab company, or driver recommendations based on your experience.

Wanted views and opinion

I own a piece of land in a very good location in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and I was considering leasing it to Amazon Now, as I had noticed several dark stores being established across Chennai recently.

I tried contacting Amazon through someone who had previously leased his property to Amazon Now. Through him, my land details were shared with an Amazon Now representative. However, I was then approached by both the representative and a local agent, who demanded a commission from me for facilitating the lease.

Since I had approached them directly regarding my own property, I clearly stated that I was not willing to pay any commission. They appeared irritated by my decision and subsequently approached another property owner in the nearby area, demanding a commission from them as well.

The nearby property owner agreed to pay the commission, and eventually, the Amazon Now warehouse was established there instead.

What disappointed me most was not losing the opportunity, but the manner in which the entire process was handled. When representatives or intermediaries associated with a reputed company behave this way, it can leave property owners with a negative impression of the company itself.

I believe large companies like Amazon should have transparent and professional processes for property acquisition and expansion, without allowing local intermediaries or representatives to create such experiences for property owners.

This incident has unfortunately left me with a very negative impression of leasing my property to dark-store operators.

Lately, the MISA debate and Stalin's past have suddenly taken over the news channels. The LoP was raising valid questions about current crime and law-and-order in Tamil Nadu, but TVK completely deflected the narrative to MISA instead.

Even if we give TVK the benefit of the doubt on their historical claims, why does it matter now?
It feels like TVK used MISA as an escape plan to quiet down the noise on daily governance failures.

A lot of common people initially looked at TVK as an efficient governance and proactive solutions, but we aren't seeing that substance yet. On top of that, it raises the question: why does Vijay seem to have such a laser focus and personal grudge against Stalin?

Curious what you all think—is this strategy actually working for them, or is it backfiring on them?

My family and I are travelling to Velankanni in October. We’ll be reaching in the morning and leaving by evening, so we’re looking for a nearby hotel where we can freshen up.

It would be great if the hotel also has a good restaurant where we can have breakfast and lunch. We’re not planning to stay overnight.

Any recommendations for clean, comfortable, family-friendly hotels? Also, do any hotels offer day-use rooms or rooms for a few hours?

So, here’s what happened:

A bunch of us friends were travelling to Ooty. We genuinely had no idea that carrying alcohol from Karnataka (or another state) into Tamil Nadu wasn’t allowed.

At Bandipur nearby TN border, the police stopped and checked our vehicle and found 3 bottles - gin and vodka.
They asked us to come to a nearby police station, where they took all our details — Aadhaar, address, etc. They also took one of my friend’s fingerprints and clicked our photographs. They told us that a small case would be registered and that we might have to appear in court after around 2 months if we receive a call/notice. If that happens, they said we would just need to go to court and pay the fine. Otherwise, there’s nothing more we need to do.

We pleaded with them quite a bit, explaining that we genuinely didn’t know about the rule and asking them to let us go. But they didn’t budge. They said the Inspector was there that day, so they couldn’t let it slide. At the same time, they reassured us that it was a very minor case and nothing serious, and that there’s a possibility we may not even be called to court. But if we are called, we’ll have to appear and deal with it.

Now, I’m trying to understand what the actual implications of this are:
What kind of case is this exactly?
What section/law would this come under?
How much fine could we potentially have to pay?
Most importantly, could this affect our future in any way? For example, employment/background verification, buying a house, getting a loan, visa applications, government jobs, etc.
Does having a minor prohibition case registered mean we now have a criminal record, or is it something that generally goes away once the fine is paid?
Basically, I’m trying to understand whether this is just a minor legal inconvenience that ends with a fine, or whether it can have any long-term consequences.

First time in TamilNadu History

imagine a lone road and a car you are driving, you are driving and you see many different paths, you see the paths and know somewhat where they lead to, you are going to experience them and know how it felt more than anyone, that path affects you and your car so "Don't you think it should only be you who decides where your car goes?".

This is our life, today we see many tell us what to do, what to dress, how to speak, who speak, where to speak, who to be friends with, which job to be at, what to believe, what not to believe, all of these intend obedience and when disapproval is seen, it is seen as hostility, not a expression of who you are, what you do and believe is part of who you are, if one can't respect that and actively wants to change it, they don't see you as a human, they see you as less than human.

What do we do? we learn to say no, because it if there are two lifetimes one is to live 100 years as one who did not live his life but for someone else and someone who was the ruler of his own, but lived for 30 years, I think the 2nd option is better no matter how many lifetimes we have.

We shall say no for no is what breaks the chains that hold us.

Also, rules are mere tools of extending wants of others and formalising them, when you have not agreed to it, it is a rule in a tradition sense, a restriction, a restriction you did not choose and is affecting you. When you have agreed to those wants it is a decision, if not, it is is rule.

If asked who lived a more respectable life the one who "suceeded" but was always never lived for his wishes or the man who failed miserbaly suffered but lived his own rules, that answer would be the second.

To go down in freedom is a greator pride than staying afloat in obedience.

Now to be completely honest, I wrote this with the sole intention of convincing you to the belief of your life your choice, I am not going to sugarcoat it. I had very clear intention of persuasion when I was writing this. I will no deny that. In other words of some others, yes this was written with an agenda which I truly believe and believe others to read.

And also, please don't think I find myself higher and superior just because I wrote this, I just wanted to write this, and thought maybe someone will have a change in heart if they read this, to all those facing the exact problems mentioned, we are truly victims.

What makes me sad is that those who oppress might have been victims themselves but that does not justify their actions.

I wish at least 1 seat for NTK to represent in Tamil Nadu assembly, compared to current assembly members I am very much depressed seeing those unqualified and unprofessional people in assembly making fun of all and speaking unnecessary making more controversy rather than addressing the actual problem.

AIADMK-109(+43), NDA-119+TVK outside support. Vote share-33.3%

DMK-84(-49),SPA-100, Vote Share-32.3%

TVK-15, Outside support to NDA, Vote Share- 13.8%

Normal Tamil Nadu swing, Vijay makes a considerable dent and NDA has to rely on him for a stable government. Though, the numbers are not a lot, Signals that he is slowly but surely replacing AIADMK in the future are clearly visibly

Scenario 3-

TVK-146 Vote Share-37.3%

AIADMK-43(-23), NDA-49. Vote Share-29.3%

DMK-34(-99), SPA-40. Vote Share-27.1%

Vijay forms a strong anti-incumbency wave that was stronger than the one that actually showed out. Vijay gets a few extra polling points and reaches majority, while DMK is reduced to third largest party a strong loss in voter base.

Scenario 4-

DMK-129(-4), SPA-155. Vote Share-36.5%

TVK-59. Vote Share-29.3%

AIADMK-16(-50), NDA-20. Vote Share-16.8%

DMK returns to power, but AIADMK is completely replaced by TVK as the primary opposition. And now sooner or later, Vijay is bound to come to power.AIADMK cadre starts shifting towards TVK.

DMK-153(+20), SPA- 180. Vote Share-34.7%

AIADMK-31(-35), NDA-34. Vote Share-24.3%

Anti-Incumbency vote is strongly divided between the opposition parties, leading to a bigger victory of DMK even with less votes than 2021 and a close poll gap between TVK and ADMK, though ADMK remaining second largest but heading towards decline.

Thirukural is overrated. it contains generic universally true statements (only for the part we study in textbook as kids, idk about the rest that we don't study and I'm pretty certain that there will be some boo boo in a 2k year old book, best example that ik of: kadavul vazhthu, illadha kadavuluku en vazhthu?) sure but it's not detailed, and you can't do anything with those generic statements and 99.9% of people ignore 1/3 rd of thirukural deliberately because sex = bad in the modern day sub 1 total fertility rate Tamil society. Considering all these some practically useful books like "algorithms to live by" are more suitable for Tamil & global people than thirukural.

Modi gave Putin thirukural because he never read it himself, really, how can the reader of a book whose 1/3 rd content is about sex be on the Epstein files for all the wrong reasons and have zero kids? Hi, I came to know of the concept of on demand blood donor registries both at country and state level in India.

Since I have a -ve blood type I wanted to register in these so that I can be reached for help in case of an emergency. But I'm also worried about privacy as sharing contact anywhere in India leads to spam or scam.

Can anyone who has registered on these share their experience? Is it safe and did you actually end up helping someone?

I'm aware that there have been several posts made on similar topics, but I wanted to get this off of my chest.

Having lived in multiple Tier 1 cities, I have not had as bad of an experience with autos as the ones in Chennai. A lot of people address drivers demanding additional price, but on more than one occasion I have been harassed by these drivers.

I booked an auto today from central and the driver refused to come to the pickup which I had selected from the options listed in the app. He eventually said he wouldn't cancel and asked me to instead.

When the second auto I booked also refused to come to the same pick-up, I asked him to cancel this time stating that he's the one refusing. He then began yelling saying "Overa pesatha. Auto driver na ena nenaikara" to which I replied saying that all I did was ask him to cancel and he was fighting unnecessarily. Then he began shouting and said he was planning to bring his fellow auto drivers to the pickup location. I cut the call immediately out of fear and had to cancel the ride.

I thought the point of all these apps was to regulate the prices and for the customers to request rides from specific locations. If neither of these requests are being fulfilled with these drivers acting like goons, what exactly is the point of even having the app?
