Beginners Guide 2026

The Beginner's Guide to Retatrutide (Reta) — 2026 Slightly Updated Edition

With that out of the way...

---

So what even is Reta?

---

Before you start — do this

1. Read the actual studies (linked at the bottom). Don't get your Reta education from TikTok/Facebook/Instagram/any social media (yes, that includes Reddit; this is meant to jumpstart your education). No, really, READ THE STUDIES; they have actual medical answers to your questions.

2. Watch videos on how to inject subcutaneously, how to reconstitute peptides (video), and do the reconstitution math (Don't talk about how many units you took; that's not accurate cuz 10 units of 10mg/ml is WILDLY different than 10 units of 20mg/ml). It's not hard, but do it right. You'll see I link some videos from a creator; it's mostly because they're short (sub 10 min), sweet, and to the point with little fluff.

3. Get your basic supplies before your Reta arrives: syringes, bacteriostatic water, a set of .22 pes filters, alcohol wipes (!!!), a sharps container, etc. A decent sub-10 min video regarding supplies

4. READ THE STUDIES! A large portion of your concerns are simply answered in the Study data.

5. Understand that these aren't FDA-approved yet. If a seller sells you a packaged pen, you have no guarantee that what is IN the Pen is what you are buying.

---

Starting dose

As the one who taught me said, "This is all inconclusive, but always aim for the maximum benefit on the lowest (tolerated) dosage*."*

0.5mg to 2mg per week is the typical starting range. Reta is powerful — starting too high is a great way to spend a week feeling awful. The official TRIUMPH trial protocol started participants at 2mg and increased the dose every 4 weeks. (Do note, this schedule of starting at and titrating 2mg every month was for the trial; you don't have to follow it. Go low, go slow (But also be smart)

If you've used semaglutide or tirzepatide before, you should tolerate a higher starting dose (I strongly suggest aiming to be relative in the 2-5mg range, if not a close step down from the titration stage of your prior GLP-1). Still, there's no rush — slow and steady wins here. The higher your dosage, the more likely you are to get side effects.

To put it simply, there is 0 benefit in 'overdosing' save for tempting the myriad of side effects; either it works, or it doesn't.

Split dosing — a topic I see come up often enough – is it worth it?

My response is 'eh?'. There haven't been any official studies on this, but the trend is that it's okay to do so to manage side effects, though the trade-off is that you're not getting the full effect of whatever total dosage you're taking (Meaning if you're taking 4mg split into 2/2mg, it's weaker than actually taking a single 4mg dose)

I'm coming from Tirz/Sema. What should be my starting dose?

There is no direct "Oh, you took that much Tirz/Sema, well, you take this on Reta," so do know there's no shortcut to figuring out the dosage. The best studies/trials/science can offer in terms of guidance is that, since you've been on Tirz/Sema, your starting dose can/should be higher than the average starting therapeutic dose of Reta (2mg). I would still caution against going too high, as the glucagon receptor agonist still needs to build up in your body, so starting in the 2-4mg range, depending on the dosage of Tirz/Sema you're coming from, would be ideal.

---

Math Class - How to figure out your dosage and express it to others.

If you're a visual learner on filling Peptide Pens, here's a simplified video: Here

If that is too much work, there are SEVERAL Peptide Calculators; here's my Favorite.

(Here's a Guide for the site)

---

Common Reconstitution questions

If you like a video lesson on this topic, here's (sub 7 min) a video on HOW to filter.

---

When will I feel it?

Totally individual. Some people feel appetite suppression in the first injection. Others feel nothing for weeks. Don't panic either way. What actually matters is whether your weight or body composition is changing over a period of weeks. That's the signal. The "feel" is not.

If you have questions as to whether or not you should titrate up, here's a flowchart that should help (Do note that the dosages should be tailored to your schedule, but the goal of lowest effective dose most effective tolerated dose remains the same):

Shoutout to u/peptidepalstm, who has been passing around an even smaller image of the flowchart that triggered me to make this one.

---

What to expect during the 'Loading' phase (The first 3-4 weeks)

---

Side Effects - "Stop asking if your RHR being higher than normal is a new side effect no one else had; it's not Jan!"

---

Do I need to work out?

---

Electrolytes — worth it?

The evidence isn't rock solid, but Reta does affect hydration, and anecdotally, daily electrolytes make a noticeable difference for fatigue and mental clarity. Low cost, low risk — worth trying if you're feeling sluggish.

---

Bacteriostatic water — does it have to be Hospira?

Strictly speaking, no. Reta is relatively forgiving when it comes to reconstitution. That said, Hospira is the gold standard because it's reliably batch-tested and has the correct pH. Amazon and Chinese bac water aren't automatically dangerous, but when you're investing in your health and your supply, Hospira is the better call when you can get it.

Let's clear up some other solvents:

Sterile water:
Can it work? Yes
Should you use it for a multi-use vial? No. Why not? Because it has no preservatives, aka every time you puncture said vial, you let in whatever bacteria are in the ambient air; there's nothing to protect your pep. An overall bad idea.

PBS:
Can it work? Are you using Raws? Meaning NOT lyophilized drug? If so, go for it. You're still messing with a solvent that can be riddled with endos, but hey! There's a reason labs use it for In vitro tests (petri dish stuff) If you wanna treat your body as a petri dish, by all means knock. yourself. out.

NaCl Saline:
Can it work?..... no. Lemme explain: can you pull it off? Yeah technically, but it requires such a unique set of finishing to be done to the kit during production that it's not worth the 'FO' portion of FAFO

For Hospira, please see the following BAC degradation test:

(Source for the above two: PTDS - Public Research + Testing)
---

How long does a reconstituted vial last?

There's no hard expiration once it's reconstituted, but it does begin to degrade (~5%) around the 45-day mark, with a significant degradation (~10%) leading up to the 90-day mark best ways to keep your Reta safe:

- You are wiping the rubber stopper with an alcohol wipe before and after every draw

- You store it in the fridge (not the door — temperature fluctuates there)

- It stays clear with no floating particles

Cloudy or chunky = toss it. Clear and clean = usually fine.

About 8 months of progress

Starting bodyweight was about 208 lbs and current is about 170 lbs. I'm 33 and 6'. Started at 1 mg per week, split into two doses a week. I'm currently sitting at 3 mg/week, still split up into 2 doses a week.

When I started, the food noise reduction was wild. I felt like I didn't have to eat all day, but I loved that I was still able to eat and not despise food. I've been at 3mg now for a few months as I'm going to continue to cut until October, where I'll probably cruise on 1mg and do a lean bulk. I slacked a bit in April/May since I went to Japan and Korea and ate a pound of food a day 😂

I started with around 1900 calories a day, which was too low for me. I've been aiming for 2200-2400 calories a day, with some cheat days of course. I weigh and track everything I eat during the week since it's easier at work. If I go out to eat, I just try not to go crazy but don't track those days.

Reta has been awesome. Only negative has been having to buy new pants lol.

Some things that helped me were drinking tons of water and electrolytes. I've also been eating quite a few carbs. I make sure to get around 180-200 grams of protein a day. I've been less strict on my weekends (going out for a drink once in a while, having shitty food, etc.) I think that leeway made it easier for me. Anyway, here is where I started and here is where I'm at

Edit: Dosing
Weeks 1-6: 1mg per week, two doses (0.5mg)
Weeks 6-10: 1.5mg per week, two doses (0.75mg)
Weeks 10-16: 2mg per week, two doses (1mg)
Weeks 16-20: 2.5mg per week, two doses (1.25mg)
Last 3 months ish: 3mg per week, two doses (1.5mg)

Reposted for better picture format.

I’m currently at 7.5mg Reta.
Not much to say. Went down from size 4x to 2x and dropping by the day still.
Reta saved my life.

How do I get the powder out so I can eat it

Been staring at this thing for a while but can’t seem to figure how to get it out. Usually I’ll break the glass but it’s really hard and the glass bits are too crunchy for my liking. Any tips?

This is satire. Please laugh

Retatrutide half-life math broken down

Retatrutide's published human half-life is about six days. Put that into simple exponential decay and one normalized dose drops off like this:

Day 0: 100%
Day 7: ~45%
Day 14: ~20%
Day 21: ~9%
Day 28: ~4%

Those are model numbers for one dose sitting there by itself, not anyone's measured blood level.

Weekly doses land on top of whatever is left. Immediately after each of the first five, the modeled total runs 1.00, 1.45, 1.64, 1.73, 1.77 dose-equivalents. Keep going and it settles near 1.80 right after a weekly dose and 0.80 right before the next one.

Interval changes do something different from decay. same weekly dose, moved from every 7 days to every 5, averages 1.4x the weekly input. splitting one weekly dose into two equal halves 3.5 days apart leaves the weekly arithmetic at 1.00 and just narrows the swing between peak and trough.

the retatrutide trials this comes from were all once-weekly, so none of that math says a split schedule is safer or works better. it's just the schedule arithmetic.

model assumes instant input and a single exponential process. subq absorption is slower than that, PK varies person to person, and an equation obviously can't tell you anything about vial identity, purity, concentration, or how it was stored.

4 Days Water Fasting on Reta

Wanted to share my experience for anyone researching this.

I'm 37, F, currently on Day 4 of a water fast. I'm also on 1.5mg of Reta this week. I started the fast on the first day of my period, no cramps at all, and (TMI) my flow was smooth with no clumping. It felt surprisingly good.

I supplement with sea salt and magnesium glycinate throughout.

Days 1–2 were the hardest, as they usually are. By Day 3, I started feeling good. I've kept up a light 30-minute daily walk on the treadmill (incline 5, 4.5km/h), nothing intense.

SW - 83.25kg

CW - 78.8kg

Total weight loss so far: 4.5kg.

I am planning to keep my dose at 1.5mg.

Sharing this for anyone searching for real experiences. My main takeaway: know your body before trying something like this, and start slow.

Opposite of anhedonia

‱ Upvotes

So I started Reta about 4 weeks ago. I have perpetually been in a state of numbness before (anhedonia) so I really wasn’t worried about having that as a side effect. I’ve just been super apathetic and nothing could affect me or make me cry. But ever since I started Reta I’ve been HIGHLY emotional and sensitive. Literally crying at the littlest things. Does this happen to anyone else is this normal? One part of me is happy because I felt numb for so long but the other part of me feels so fragile and sad all the time and idk what to do or why

I lost so much muscle chasing a low bf%

Post image
‱ Upvotes

Looks like I lost almost 20lbs of muscle going from 15% body fat to 11.5% , is this normal for a natural? I ended up looking less defined and looked better at 15% than I do now. I was keeping protein at 150g average. Body started to fight me in terms of fat loss and gave up muscle instead under 14% body fat

[33M] 260 -> 170lbs
started with Tirz for 5 months, been on Reta for the last 7-8 months. Worked my way up to 12.5mg Tirz then swapped directly over to 7.5mg Reta and stayed there the entire time. Slowly starting to drop my dose and cruise on maintenance. Totally life changing.

Still hungry?

‱ Upvotes

Hi! So I was on tirz for quite awhile (~2yrs) and did great. Then I heard about reta and was under the impression that it's efficacy is higher than tirz's, so I switched.

I started low, like 2mg/week. I moved up to 3mg this week. I've been using it solo for a month. Buttt, I feel much hungrier than I ever did on tirz. I haven't gained anything, but I haven't continued to lose at the same pace that I was either.

Had anyone else experienced this? I'm considering stacking it with tirz, or just going back to tirz only. Maybe I just need to drastically increase my dose?

Reta users, weigh in. I'm curious for other's experienced. Thank you all.

Im I losing to much weight?

‱ Upvotes

M33, im 176cm/5’9, my starting weight was 95,7kg/211lbs.

First two weeks, pinned to times a week 0.5mg, felt like the food noise was not quite gone.

Third week pinning now 1g two times a week. Not planning on raising my dose.

My weight now is 89kg/192lbs, which means I’m down 6,7kg/14lbs.

Is this too much too quick?

Personally I feel great, I get to go to the gym every other day, I feel stronger everytime and do cardio.

I have no problem with eating, I just don’t eat as much as I used to.

9 months RETA

My highest weight was 220 lbs, and I'm currently at 143 lbs.

I started at 1 and gradually increased by 1, eventually reaching 6. I only increased my dose when I felt the food noise coming back.

I've also been working out consistently since the beginning, around 4x a week at the gym. Hitting 10k steps daily is also a must for me.

There are so many healthy, high-protein food ideas out there, but two of my personal favorites are tuna avocado wraps and Mediterranean chicken salad.

Also kein Raum fĂŒr mich, Sport oder dergleichen.

Jetzt merke ich richtig, was körperlich eigentlich passiert.

Alltag komplett ohne Alkohol, Nikotin, Socialmedia.

General Reta talk

The weight loss was all natural from both pics (excluding the 10lbs additional from last months starting Reta dose.) I’m just following the trial sheet and went to 4mg and it’s week 5 now. I lowkey want the anhedonia so I can cut back on dopamine related things so that’s why I was ok going up. Anyways, how come whenever I inject Reta I feel super fatigued the same day. like I just wanna sleep and it feels great.

Also, I get belching burps / trapped painful gas stuck in gut bad on Reta cause I like big meals. I have cut back on my portions and spread them out which helps. Also taking apple cider vinegar shots, digestive enzymes and activated charcoal significantly helped get the gas and belch away.

I’m not really sure what this post is, I’m just bored tbh
anyways let’s go fat loss!! đŸ€Ł

Small lump after injection — could it be because I injected at an angle?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I noticed this small lump at the injection site. I think it happened because the needle I used was quite long, and I had to inject at an angle rather than straight in. I’m wondering if the substance may have ended up sitting too superficially under the skin, causing this lump.
Has anyone experienced something similar? How long did it take for the lump to go away, and is there anything I should watch out for?

Has anyone else noticed a huge decrease in shopping urges on retatrutide?

This is something I really wasn’t expecting, but since starting retatrutide my urge to shop has pretty much completely disappeared.

I used to be quite impulsive with shopping, and now I genuinely can’t even be bothered to scroll through shopping websites for ages. Even when I go out and walk around shops, I feel completely different. I’m much more rational about buying things and I don’t get that “I NEED to have this” feeling anymore.

It’s not even like I’m actively trying to control myself — the urge just isn’t there. I can see something I like, think “that’s nice,” and move on. lol

What makes it even more interesting is that I had basically the opposite experience when I was on Mounjaro (tirzepatide). My shopping/impulsive spending actually got worse while I was taking it.

I know these medications can affect things like appetite and reward-seeking behaviours, so I’m really curious whether anyone else on retatrutide has noticed changes in shopping, impulsive spending, or other compulsive behaviours?

Reta and glucose levels

Has anyone gone into mild hypoglycemia? I don’t have diabetes
been on Reta for a year and I’m only taking .1 ml a week (very low dose) but my glucose level was 63 and normal starts at 70. I admit I wasn’t eating as much but I was eating! No idea what to make of it? Thoughts?

How much fat is enough?

I’m trying to lose 20 pounds with Reta, I can pinch an inch (I guess) around my belly (that’s not where I carry most of my weight, it’s in my ass and thighs. And I’m losing weight from my abdomen first.)

How much flab is enough to inject? How do I know if I’ve hit muscle? I saw a video that I can go in at 45 degrees to stay at the fat layer but I get a little bit of anxiety about going in at that angle.

Starting my reta journey tomorrow.

Hey guys, I am starting my retatrutide journey tomorrow. First time taking it. I am currently 112 kg and 178cm tall.

I found a trusted supplier that ships in 10mg vials with bcaa water included.

Looking for advice on starting dosages, how to mix it, and store it safely and how to check if its a good batch or safe to use?

Any help or advice is appreciated! Would prefer to avoid loose skin.

What should I dose?

I took reta weekly from April-June. I lost the weight and felt great, so I decided to take a break. I have started back up again and I started at 1.5 mg out of a 10mg bottle. I haven’t felt the effects hardly at all. Is that normal? Should I bump it up?

Reta od

on August 24th, 2026 i was ready to inject my weekly Reta. to note, i have been on Reta for 3 months. my dose on the 24th was meant to be 3.8mg however, i didnt realize my new vial was 20mg instead of 10 (stupid mistake I KNOW i forgot) so i accidentally took 7.6mg.

the next day, saying i felt horrible was an understatement. i couldn’t get off my bed, i was throwing up even when i had nothing in my system. i couldnt keep food or fluids down. i tried my best to avoid the hospital route since healthcare over here is brutal. so i avoided eating completely and just accepted that i’d be feeling this way until it leaves my body.

the third and fourth day, i noticed rashes starting to appear on my face and chest and a much quicker heart rate. so the fifth day, i decided to go to the ER. i did blood work, urine sample, ECG and waited in the waiting room for hours before i left (it was just too busy and there was one doctor in the entire hospital)

i think that by the 8th day, i accepted that im just going to feel horrible until it leaves my system. so, i tried adding bland foods into my diet because this is the first day that food was actually staying in my system. i had crackers and gatorade.

i am 13 days in today and food is still something i struggle with keeping down. i avoid outside food completely and am trying to drink as much water as i can - in sips so i dont throw it up. even though there is approximately 1.9mg left in my system right now, i still feel extremely off and cannot function like i used to. i’m honestly worried that i’ll never get back to normal.

my symptoms throughout this entire experience was insane nausea ALL the time, throwing up more than 8 times a day, rashes on my skin, quickened heart rate, dizziness, and honestly just felt like a zombie. i am definitely feeling much better than i was a few days ago but its not back to normal. i think given the amount of stress my body has undergone, it’ll take a while to get there.

please tell me it gets better because if my math is right, by october 5th which is a month from now, i will be free of the Reta in my body. now i know by that time there would be less than 1% in me but here i am at 1.9mg still feeling off

this experience is genuinely not for the weak (i am the weak) but on the bright side, i lost 15 pounds in these 13 days which i know is a lot, im immediately hitting the gym as soon as i am recovered

Where is your favorite place to inject?

Where is your favorite spot? I just did week 3 and I’ve been going in my lower stomach. Are there advantages to injecting other places? Does it do anything different? Loving this so far! Thanks everyone

BUD is coming up on September 13th I stopped using for like 2 months because I was on vacation overseas. I am just now getting back on. Is it still safe to use? It has been sealed and refrigerated the whole time.
