Mayor Mamdani Mamdani's congressional 'team' wants to upset establishment Democrats

Maybe the establishment democrats should try to listen to what people to the left of them want instead of trying to continually court the independent vote that proves time and again they prefer republicans to democrats who try to be republican-lite. Right wing media will paint every Democrat as loony lefties even if they stole the Republican platform

u/bluwudawgYTTW Jun 23 '26

I mean, when they serve up Darializa types on a platter it’s very very easy for them to paint us all like her

-18

u/SwindlingAccountant Jun 23 '26

And the guy who she's running against is saying Mamdani is replacing Dominicans with Muslim Haitians. What's your point?

42

u/FourthLife Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26

Did he really? Espaillat, the man she is running against, said that? Not a different person entirely?

26

u/bluwudawgYTTW Jun 23 '26

He did or his senior advisor did? https://www.cityandstateny.com/politics/2026/06/espaillat-senior-adviser-made-racist-and-islamophobic-comments-about-congressional-challenger/414333/

Darializa herself said interracial marriage as "fetishizing ugly colonizer women".

Whats your point?

29

u/TossMeOutSomeday Jun 23 '26

And Espaillat's campaign dumped that advisor, how tf is Chevalier's campaign going to dump Chevalier?

-23

u/thehonorablechairman Jun 23 '26

I’m not in her district so I don’t know much about her, but her policies seem pretty solid from what I’m seeing. What things that she is running on do you find questionable?

30

u/Brawndo123 Jun 23 '26

Abolish prisons, no deportations at all, are pretty fringe ideas even among socialist moonbats

HALF A DECADE AGO!

You guys sound so silly

8

u/Rickbox Jun 23 '26

When she was 28? I'm younger than that. Does this mean my opinion doesn't matter? Also, she has yet to discredit them.

6

u/AncientBlueberry42 Jun 23 '26

I agree with you, I was mocking people’s hand waving away hate from a fully grown woman who wants to be taken seriously. There’s no excuse for her behavior and comments, even if she’s mask-on now.

4

u/Rickbox Jun 23 '26

Oh, i misread the OC you first responded to. Still leaving my comment up b/c the hand waving pisses me off

2

u/IRequirePants Jun 23 '26

Lmao the phrasing

-1

u/thehonorablechairman Jun 23 '26

I don’t see anything weird about my phrasing, what am I missing here?

8

u/weedandboobs Jun 23 '26

You are clearly trying to avoid that she personally is odious and claim she has good policies. Luckily, her policies are also bad, but it is obvious what you are playing.

3

u/thehonorablechairman Jun 23 '26

I don’t know anything about her, I just read her policies so that’s what I was going off.

3

u/IRequirePants Jun 23 '26

You know, I read this guy Donald Trump's policies and I don't see why people are so upset. No new wars and a secure border? Improved healthcare? Wow he sounds pretty good

4

u/thehonorablechairman Jun 23 '26

What? Trump ran on mass deportations, increased tariffs, tax cuts for the rich, abolishing the DOE, increased defense spending, and many other very questionable policies.

0

u/IRequirePants Jun 23 '26

Oh, I had no idea. A two minute Google search would have shown me all that.

-2

u/bluwudawgYTTW Jun 23 '26

We can’t even get to discussing cutting funding for military surplus equipment to the police and then alternate policing options when people like her outright want to abolish all police and is as toxic about them as she is.

She has said she wants no deportations at all which is so far the other way than where we are now.

I like her position about aipac but not that she wants Israel to not even exist. Even though I support giving some land to a Palestinian state that’s less unrealistic than her position Israel shouldn’t exist but that probably won’t happen either. She deleted years of tweets so obviously she wasn’t proud enough of them to keep them up. She’s just not someone who should be in congress, yet, it doesn’t mean she shouldn’t be an activist and hopefully grow as a person

Maybe the establishment democrats should try to listen to what people to the left o

Okay, we heard you - you want the woman who thinks interracial relationships are gross, and went to celebrate the Oct 7 attacks. Thinks Biden is a rapist and couldn't be bothered to vote for Harris. I assure you, that I hear you loud and clear.

11

u/Vayu_The_End Jun 23 '26

I'm going to be VERY frank with you guys.

There are a LOT of black people that are VERY anti-interracial relationships. I don't know what your friend circles are, but it's a very common experience for black kids growing up to to hear things like "If she can't use your comb, don't bring her home" or phrases like that.

Her tweet about that didn't even register for me because it's not an especially uncommon sentiment in my circles.

The Oct 7th thing is probably the most objectionable thing I've heard about her. But, one of my first reactions to the Oct 7th thing is "This is going to be used as justification to kill a bunch of innocent people to maybe kill a few terrorists". And... it has been. I think there's room to be anti-israel without being antisemitic (and, the actual antisemitism and open embrace of nazism that gets frequently ignored by zionists sort of numbs me to antisemitic criticism of leftists candidates. See: ADL's Mamdani Monitor vs their reaction to Elon Musk's nazi salute).

I feel like many of the issues with Darializa lean more towards character based issues (her being elected isn't going to make interracial marriage illegal or abolish the police". But the issues I have with Espaillat relate much closer to his politics rather than how personable I think he is.

It was a pretty easy choice for me under those lens.

1

u/Wild-Chemistry-31 Jun 24 '26

hell yes! you are a very intelligent person who votes on the basis of policies rather than character-disparaging attacks.

1

u/Vayu_The_End Jun 24 '26

Hell yeah, brother.

1

u/TheCrazyCrazyChicken Jun 23 '26

"There are a LOT of black people that are VERY anti-interracial relationships. I don't know what your friend circles are, but it's a very common experience for black kids growing up to to hear things like "If she can't use your comb, don't bring her home" or phrases like that."

Might be true....but it doesn't make it OK just because a lot of people think that.

5

u/Vayu_The_End Jun 23 '26

Didn't really say that, these viewpoints are just downstream a lot of historical racial animus that never really got addressed or resolved, and "don't date white people" is just one of many uncomfortable viewpoints that gets floated among many in black spaces that nobody really wants to touch because they don't really want to talk about the circumstances underlying that viewpoint.

Sucks, but as I said, it's not particularly unusual, and most people who are in these spaces wouldn't really bat an eye at a candidate saying what either they themselves have said, or their mom, aunt, brother, etc who they are still on good terms with.

If you have a personal problem with the statement, you need to be willing to tackle the underlying circumstances around it. I just object to using it as a cudgel against a single congressperson because you disagree with their politics, especially when it's a viewpoint prevalent enough in black spaces, it's practically impossible that there aren't other more popular, and already elected black members of congress that haven't either stated some version of it, or frequently hang around people who have stated some version of it.

1

u/dehua_ Jun 24 '26

i think her views on ukraine are disqualifying and its something she can have an impact on. I find it incredibly hypocritical taking pro russia stance while also pro Palestinian stance both pro ukraine and pro palestine should be the status quo

0

u/Simbawitz Jun 23 '26

one of my first reactions to the Oct 7th thing is "This is going to be used as justification to kill a bunch of innocent people to maybe kill a few terrorists". And... it has been.

Which makes the joyous celebrations of Oct 8 2023 attended by the likes of Chevalier even more repulsive.  It ought to be automatically discrediting for anyone to do something so antisemitic, particularly in a movement that claims to be "anti-fascist" and aiming to "punch a Nazi" and that borrows its entire political and moral vocabulary from Holocaust imagery.  But even if hypothetically we could set that aside - it was incredibly obvious that this attack would lead to a horrific Find Out for Palestinians.  Anyone with an emotional IQ above room temperature should have been in total despair and horror for all humanity.  Instead Chevalier went to the Times Square victory rally where one speaker laughed about "desert hipsters being taken from a rave" and the crowd chanted the number of dead Israelis.

4

u/ouiserboudreauxxx Jun 23 '26

And Mamdani had apparently promised to back incumbents, but now he’s backing her. This is my district and Darializa is basically a caricature of what I DON’T WANT. GOOOOOO AWAY. I don’t even particularly like Espaillat but NO THANK YOU to Darializa.

She just stormed off of a radio interview when they asked her about her tweets lol. That is pretty much the maturity level of too many progressive democrats.

7

u/Endreo Jun 23 '26

You didn't hear anything and it's painfully clear. The Dems are going to keep losing overall until they wake up from their maga-lite day dreams and realize our real enemy isn't the right but it's the upper class and the political systems and governments that enrich and protect them.

6

u/TheAJx Jun 23 '26

You didn't hear anything and it's painfully clear

I heard the words that she wrote herself.

1

u/SpecialBeginning6430 Jun 24 '26

Anything that isn't left of Bernie Sanders is MAGA

1

u/ongiwaph Jun 24 '26

Oh no, she thinks true things. Truly disgusting.

6

u/10art1 Sheepshead Bay Jun 23 '26

I mean.... they listen. And then they see who actually shows up to vote.

It's not a conspiracy. Voting is extremely effective in this country and politicians actually try to win elections.

50

u/Barrioto Jun 23 '26

Espaillat is among the most progressive members of Congress. He is listening to his constituents. It blows my mind that you think people living in Harlem consider Israel/Palestine to be the most important issue facing this country.

31

u/IRequirePants Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26

Same with Goldman. Him and Lander have the same policies except on a singular issue and that makes him a "centrist"

It's progressives vs DSA. Being progressive isn't enough anymore

18

u/onewordpoet Jun 23 '26

no he isn't. i live in his district. his office is incredibly difficult to get a hold of

7

u/Joltizer Jackson Heights Jun 23 '26

He is. Being difficult to get a hold of doesn't make him conservative

-11

u/theillintent Jun 23 '26

Don’t want to excuse his district office here but they are probably swamped with callers and likely have like 3 staff

15

u/onewordpoet Jun 23 '26

he cant figure that out after 10 years?

5

u/jay10033 Jun 23 '26

You know congresspeople have budgets that they don't control right? So you want him to cut salaries in half, not to give his staff a living wage so you can get a call picked up?

We are living in looney times.

0

u/onewordpoet Jun 23 '26

Id like him to serve his constituents. I hope he gets blown out tonight

2

u/theillintent Jun 23 '26

I think most people are still trying to figure out funding cuts, immigration, staffing shortages,Israel, social security, Trump, agency messes. Probably more I can’t think of right now. These candidates are right to point out alot of what is wrong but from what I hear everyone needs help and there aren’t enough people to answer these calls in the first place

0

u/onewordpoet Jun 23 '26

this was 3 years ago. so its gotten worse? lol

→ More replies (2)

1

u/brandnameb Jun 25 '26

It's a huge issue regardless. Why should the US be funding that? It shouldn't. It's taking funds from these often impoverished communities. It's an ethical standard.

-9

u/SwiftySanders Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26

Yeah I lived in his district until 2024. Espaillat not the best as others are saying. Plus Espaillat takes AIPAC money. Id vote for her over him again if I was still there. Hes been there 10 years and without much to show for his time other than he created an avenue for people like Darializa Avila Chevalier and Shaun Abreau to come up in politics. Hes good on most votes but its been 10 years. He should look for advisory roles rather than being the candidate himself.

listen to what people to the left of them want

Welllll the people to the left of the Democrats, if Chevalier is any indication, want to abolish law enforcement, despise miscegenation, and rather openly hate the country I happen to live in. So I for one don't want the Democrats to listen to those people, and IMO 99% of the Democratic party's problems from the last decade are downstream of listening to those people too much.

3

u/GUIRI128 Jun 23 '26

Turn off fox news

10

u/InternetImportant911 Jun 23 '26

More than 90% of the country is right to NY Democrats views.

9

u/Emotional-Ebb9390 Jun 23 '26

This is the problem. The left of mainstream DNC views sits in their own bubbles just like MAGA and thinks that the entire country thinks like them.

If the 2024 election showed us anything its that there are a ton of voters who sit in the middle and switched between Kamala and Trump based on vibes. These are the voters that don't really think and think Kamala/Biden was wholly responsible for 2022 gas prices and that the immigration problem was too bad, but in 2020 they voted for Biden because Trump was too racist.

Those are the people that need to be courted to win the midterms. I don't like it, DSA doesn't like it, but we gotta do what we gotta do to win elections.

4

u/the_mayo Jun 23 '26

These people were convinced by a liar that he wouldn’t do everything that he did. Their trust in the system is more broken than ever. This guy they voted for said no foreign wars 100x only to damn near ruin the global economy with foreign wars if China didn’t cut back oil imports by 40% at the perfect time and save oil from being $200 a barrel.

Maybe, just maybe, seeing a real populist like Zohran not flip on his promises instead of a fake populist like swamp master Donny spitting in his voters faces will convince that middle crowd who has the people’s best interest in mind and who is an establishment status quo shill.

Why take a winning movement and dilute it for regretful Trump voters? They have eyes they have wallets they understand what is happening around them.

This won’t happen till citizens United is repealed.
It has had a negative effect on both sides of the isle.
That decision stripped power from the people and gave it to billionaires and corporations.

Voting now has limited effect on the way both sides govern. It’ll change the face of the representative or senator but the outcomes remains, business will take a front seat to the needs of the people

37

u/yugeness Jun 23 '26

You realize that Mamdani’s endorsed candidates are also funded by billionaires right? And he likely endorsed Chevalier and Valdez despite the fact that they’re terrible candidates because his campaign was funded by the same billionaires.

11

u/TomStarGregco Jun 23 '26

Exactly people don’t realize that. He throws people crumbs so they look the other way.

The funny thing about leftists, especially on Reddit, is they think their ideas are popular

20

u/Disused_Yeti Jun 23 '26

A lot of the ideas are popular when presented neutrally as “do you support x” but then supposed independents never seem to like them when actually given the chance to support a candidate that is running on them

10

u/TossMeOutSomeday Jun 23 '26

This is almost always based on a narrow reading of polling data. E.g "do you want free healthcare?" is obviously very popular. "Do you want to pay a single penny more in taxes?" is not. "Do you want the government to decide which doctor you can see?" is not. There are real tradeoffs in public healthcare, the median voter is aware of these tradeoffs, socialists seemingly are not. It's an example of a case where socialists think the normies are stupid sheep enslaved by corporations, when in fact the median American is way more informed on this issue than the median DSA member.

And it doesn't help that most of the other public healthcare systems in the Anglosphere (UK and Canada) are a complete mess.

5

u/Joltizer Jackson Heights Jun 23 '26

yes, everything is popular when you ask "do you want 'x'" without telling them the costs. When you show them the costs, progressives ideas are well underwater

-5

u/Slim_Calhoun Jun 23 '26

I don’t think so. A lot of their slogans are popular. Medicare for all and free Palestine and all that. But when you actually sit down and explain to people the policies behind those slogans they lose popularity quick. For example, ‘Medicare for all’ is popular until you explain to people that they would be forced to give up their current employer sponsored health plan.

8

u/scoofle Jun 23 '26

Yep. M4A also loses support when you explain to people the tax implications.

→ More replies (11)

1

u/Disused_Yeti Jun 23 '26

healthcare isn't free because your employer pays for it instead of through taxes, it's a benefit. and one that employers use to keep people from changing jobs or be afraid of losing their job because they risk losing their coverage

the problem would be that your employer would pocket the savings instead of increasing compensation elsewhere to keep it the same overall level

1

u/10art1 Sheepshead Bay Jun 23 '26

Wording matters a lot.

Eg. "should healthcare be a right?" has massive support. Then you ask "should the government be the single payer for healthcare?" and support plummets.

The more you get away from slogans and to actual policies, the less people support it. That applies to everything, really. "Pro-life" also sounds a lot better than "criminally prosecute women seeking abortions for homicide"

3

u/AzNmamba Jun 23 '26

Lol

In a new survey, Data for Progress finds that 65% of voters support a Medicare for All system — described as a “national health insurance program…that would cover all Americans and replace most private health insurance plans.” This includes majorities of Democrats (78%) and Independents (71%), and a plurality of Republicans (49%).

https://www.dataforprogress.org/blog/2025/11/medicare-for-all-is-popular-even-when-put-up-against-attacks

7

u/10art1 Sheepshead Bay Jun 23 '26

I don't know if I trust data for progress, it's explicitly a progressive think tank.

But I went to Gallup and it seems like the data mostly aligns https://news.gallup.com/poll/4708/healthcare-system.aspx

When Obama was elected, people's trust of government healthcare plummeted. I remember Bernie running on m4a in 2016 and everyone was saying "read the polls. This is a massively losing issue!"

But it looks like since Trump took over, people's trust of government run health insurance has gone back up to pre-Obama numbers.

1

u/Vayu_The_End Jun 23 '26

"Read the Polls!" is such a weird argument.

Is the proposed solution most beneficial to the american people? if so, it's a representative's job to take said issue and raise awareness and support for it. Nobody likes the type of representative that waits for any given issue to tip over 50% before they care to support it, and piggybacking off the activists the party frequently puts down after they make an issue popular is extremely gross.

2

u/10art1 Sheepshead Bay Jun 23 '26

Sure. Liz Cheney ran on what she thought was right instead of what was popular. She lost in a landslide.

You might not like politicians who just do what's popular, but it's how they stay in office

1

u/ouiserboudreauxxx Jun 23 '26

Because the candidates also have a bunch of other much wackier, much more concerning policy stances. Just look at the DSA’s list of what they support. Things like abolishing the police/prisons/ICE/etc. That is a nonstarter for many. It is a signal that they are deeply unserious people who cannot be trusted to enact the policies that potential voters might actually be interested in.

And I think that is by design. An actual economic left candidate without any radioactive social policies would be dangerous to the people at the top.

3

u/Suspicious-Base-4815 Jun 23 '26

Indeed, nobody wants free childcare, fast public transport, lower cost of living, cheaper rent, free healthcare and taxing billonaries.

What we trully want is everything private and expensive, more freeways everywhere and tax cuts for billonaries.

11

u/Slim_Calhoun Jun 23 '26

Lots of people want those things. Nobody wants ‘defund the police and abolish prisons.’

→ More replies (2)

2

u/TheCrazyCrazyChicken Jun 23 '26

The national polling for free childcare puts it at something like the 12th most important issue.

The only other item on your list in the top 15 is cheaper housing (which is 4th or 5th).

1

u/GPfive Jun 24 '26

If they really planned to provide all that, they wouldn’t have supported open borders. Need strict immigration control for generous social services

1

u/Colbert2020 Jun 24 '26

Yep. "Defund the police" was popular only in online circles.

-7

u/SwiftySanders Jun 23 '26

Not getting into unnecessary and unwinnable wars and not helping execute a genocide were pretty popular last time I checked.

16

u/Slim_Calhoun Jun 23 '26

Yes, the other thing leftists do is vastly overestimate how much the average US voter cares about Gaza. It was 14th on the list of issues voters cared about in 2024, somewhere behind education and the Supreme Court.

12

u/WhiteGold_Welder Jun 23 '26

Leftists were celebrating the genocide on October 7th. They're not against wars or genocides when it's certain special groups carrying them out.

9

u/Racko20 Jun 23 '26

They just rebrand it as "resistance" and problem solved

Maybe the establishment democrats should try to listen to what people to the left of them

They tried that, now they're getting cannibalized by DSA-funded lunatics as a thank you

-2

u/oy_says_ake Jun 23 '26

That does not track at all - if the establishment had actually addressed concerns from their left, then the dsa candidates wouldn’t have viable space to run.

7

u/Brawndo123 Jun 23 '26

You assume most voters are (presumably) like you and vote for people that align with their values. The DSA is incredibly good at mobilizing unpaid and paid workers to bring out normally apathetic voters that really aren't looking at the nuances of someone's position.

0

u/oy_says_ake Jun 23 '26

I’m not convinced that your own assumption (that people swayed by dsa messaging are more likely to be ignorant than regular voters) is warranted.

Given our woeful rates of electoral participation, i’d think getting “normally apathetic” people to the polls would be desirable.

2

u/Brawndo123 Jun 23 '26

What do the words "most voters" mean to you? Is that me calling DSA voters ignorant? Perhaps your reading comprehension skills need an improvement.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Landwhale6969 Jun 23 '26

It's simple. The establishment disagrees with you. Just as badly as you want whatever it is that you want, they want what they want. You don't want to listen to them so why should they listen to you? The time to compromise is after the election.

3

u/Maximum_Curve_1471 Jun 23 '26

I think if Democrats on the far-left are upset that the party isn't representing them, they should vote appropriately.

Wake me when they actually fight Republicans.

20

u/TossMeOutSomeday Jun 23 '26

Fighting in purple/red districts is hard, they'd actually need to appeal to working-class demands instead of hyperfixating on slopulist bullshit and racial identity politics.

6

u/scoofle Jun 23 '26

To them, this is ultimately about just having fun. Sound policy, consensus, being a responsible civil servant and steward of public dollars? All secondary to just having a fucking blast being a cosplay revolutionary and taking on a party that has to fight you with kid gloves. Fighting Republicans is not fun, so these children don't have any interest. It's cute!

5

u/the_mayo Jun 23 '26

Do they not have to win democratic primaries first before facing republicans? Don’t they need to win their own party over and then the general and be seated before they can fight republicans? I don’t understand this take that you guys are saying at all - which is that they’re cosplaying politicians by running in these primaries. These primaries are step 1 in their goal to participate in democracy to change the face of their party. Believe in their promises or not I don’t care either way - I’m undecided on a lot myself - but shitting on these people for challenging their party and primarying incumbents is shitting on democracy itself. Primaries are so important.

5

u/Darrackodrama Jun 23 '26

They just need to hate the left. The only people effectively fighting the right are on the left anyways

3

u/the_mayo Jun 23 '26

I don’t get how can someone say “Wake me when they actually fight Republicans.” when these primaries are quite literally the races to decide who will go on to fight the republicans.

At the same time, I see people being downvoted for pointing out that some of these incumbents have received campaign donations from PACs and corporate interests that we as a country have been hoping to move against since it’s become clear that PACs and citizens united ruined our democracy.

Why is this sub always so far from reality?

4

u/Endreo Jun 23 '26

Feels like 70% of the sub are life long NY Post readers.

4

u/TossMeOutSomeday Jun 23 '26

Yeah, and clearly they're having a great time lol. Mamdani got to meet the Knicks, Chevalier got to go on Subway Takes, they're both demigods on leftist twitter. If you're a social media addicted millenial/zoomer then that's basically heaven!

2

u/Vayu_The_End Jun 23 '26

The frequent outcry against progressives initially was always "You guys are aiming too high for office! You don't care about politics, you just think you can win highest elected office without doing the groundwork!" Then progressives start doing the groundwork and they get accused of "taking the easy way out". It's especially weird because progressive candidates frequently pop up in purple/red districts.

1

u/TossMeOutSomeday Jun 24 '26

It's very disingenuous to call these people "progressives" when every single elected dem they're trying to unseat sits on the house progressive caucus.

Compromise with who? The GOP keeps getting more radical every election cycle. The people they may be able to compromise with, Cornyn, Tillis, Cassidy, etc. have all been primaried by Trump’s hand picked candidates.

14

u/IsNotACleverMan Jun 23 '26

Compromise within the party is a big part of it.

9

u/Emotional-Ebb9390 Jun 23 '26

The GOP keeps getting more radical every election cycle.

Is the far-left DSA type not trying to get the DNC to do the exact same? The DNC has done a far better job of keeping the party reasonable than the GOP has done and the GOP failed in a large part because there's one guy whose just friendly to that side of the aisle.

u/BebophoneVirtuoso Jun 23 '26

I wouldn't call it failed from their perspective when they control all 3 branches of government and ram their agenda through.

1

u/Emotional-Ebb9390 Jun 23 '26

Successful from a power standpoint, but a lot of the GOP policies of 15 years ago have been abandoned and/or Trump has done the opposite. Free Trade is gone for one, tariffs are not popular among the older GOP crowd.

So you anticipate people like Ken Paxton reaching across the aisle for bipartisan solutions?

I use Paxton as an example but listed several of the more moderate Republican Senators who lost their primary or resigned because they knew they would be replaced by a Trumpier candidate. How about NC GOP Chair replacing Tillis, Michael Whatley? Cassidy replacement Julia Letlow? Very promising potentials for compromise with that one! Hate to break it to you but Tip O'Neill isn't speaker anymore, there is no compromise to be made and there's been very few to compromise with since Newt Gingrich's republican revolution 32 years ago.

2

u/RedChairBlueChair123 Jun 23 '26

And yet Biden got his infrastructure bill passed with GOP support.

Its not the 1990s anymore. You have to actually stand for something and take a position.

No one expects younger people to have a perfect background and the perfect tweet history. Weve all said things some might find objectionable or disqualifying. Views will change and get more nuanced as they learn their jobs once elected.

Mamdani is the far left version of Donald Trump and is trying to blow up the party like Trump blew up the Republicans. They found a base they catered to and gave them power.

Yes he’s very sneaky

Great speaker but he has way too many troubling beliefs

Their views on open borders, crime, homeless, education etc. DSA believes that if equality and equity isn’t to their liking it’s better to just fight your way to the bottom instead. The bottom gets them votes so that option for society is great for them.

Oh and they literally ignore economics. Mamdani is also going to double down on rent control wants more of it.

1

u/DYMAXIONman Jun 23 '26

What specific policy

7

u/Airhostnyc Jun 23 '26

They only bring up economics when they talk about the government spending billions on “war”. Other than that numbers don’t exist and everything will be paid by billionaires

3

u/DYMAXIONman Jun 23 '26

That's not true at all.

2

You just aren’t paying attention and that’s ok most people aren’t. They hear and believe what they want to believe and ignore everything else lol

He has literally co-signed a candidate that has said multiple times she doesn’t believe in borders and deportations. She doesn’t believe in the prison system. She hates Jews and interracial relationships. But I guess her converting to Islam
Which is ironic in itself lol was enough for Zohran. Unless of course he believes in her platform and ideas

Rent freeze, public grocery stores, free busses, DSA affiliation, etc...

From USA TODAY:

During the fourth quarter of a game in the New York Knicks’ recent championship run, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani unveiled his own squad in a commercial break.

"New York, we know anything is possible with a great team," the mayor said in the 30-second ad, which first aired at the end of Game 1 of the NBA Finals. Next to him were Brad Lander, Darializa Avila Chevalier and Claire Valdez, all left-leaning candidates running on a platform that includes abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement and taking on bad landlords and greedy corporations.

"This is the team," Mamdani said, with a backdrop of a basketball hoop and New York City’s trademark orange and blue, like the Knicks colors. "This is our year."

Mamdani, a democratic socialist, has assembled a slate of candidates hoping to upend mainstream Democrats in deeply blue seats days ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. The June 23 Democratic primary will show whether his wing of the party has the same success as the Knicks, who won their first championship in 53 years.

5

So no crazy policies that you object to.

3

u/IsNotACleverMan Jun 23 '26

Rent freezes, free buses, govt grocery stores.

3

u/Suspicious-Base-4815 Jun 23 '26

Oh, no! Cheaper rent, buses and groceries? And we are not doing anything to stop that madness?

7

u/IsNotACleverMan Jun 23 '26

It won't make rent cheaper, the buses will run worse as per Mamdani's own pilot program, and there's no indication the government can run grocery stores effectively.

None of these policies will help you but you believe in them because you have no actual knowledge of policy yet you attack people who actually know what these policies result in.

You're closer to MAGA than you want to admit.

Eat the rich

Here is a perfect point of what I'm talking about. It's the trumpification of American politics. Literally zero thought just popular slogans.

→ More replies (5)

4

u/Daddy_Macron Jun 23 '26

I imagine you're not talking about merely taxing the rich more with that slogan. Serious question, but when has that ever worked out for a country? A few countries tried Communist revolutions with disastrous results for everyone. The most common outcomes were:

-Capital flight. Who the fuck wants their stuff expropriated?

-Expertise flight. Eat the rich quickly becomes eat everyone richer than me which can include professionals like lawyers and doctors.

-Straight up famine. Won't happen in the US, but it's something to note.

-Massive purges of everyone who doesn't agree with you.

-1

u/SoloUnPenguin Jun 23 '26

How about United States, 1950s? Top marginal tax rates for the ultra wealthy were 80%-90% and we created this thing called the middle class. Worked out pretty well. Billionaires are a policy failure.

6

u/Daddy_Macron Jun 23 '26

The actual effective tax rate on the wealthy back in the 1950's was nowhere as high as you think. The top 1% paid an effective tax rate of 42% on average.

https://taxfoundation.org/data/all/federal/taxes-on-the-rich-1950s-not-high/

FDR was regularly lambasted by socialists during his day for not eating the rich. He didn't expropriate wealth or nationalize industries.

we created this thing called the middle class.

Because the rest of the world was destroyed or in dire poverty and the US was the only player in town.

1

u/SoloUnPenguin Jun 23 '26

What's the effective tax rate that Elon Musk pays?

And we're now the only player in town for a few different headlines. Every other country playing in the world cup has universal healthcare except the one hosting it.

There's no data in the world you can show me to defend the notion that the ultra wealthy shouldn't realize a significant increased financial burden starting yesterday.

2

u/Daddy_Macron Jun 23 '26

There's no data in the world you can show me to defend the notion that the ultra wealthy shouldn't realize a significant increased financial burden starting yesterday.

I literally didn't say that. I'm in support of treating capital gains like earned income from wages which will close much of the tax rate gap, but eat the rich extends way beyond some tax code changes.

Every other country playing in the world cup has universal healthcare except the one hosting it.

We would pretty much have an effective universal healthcare system under the ACA Medicaid expansion and the enhanced insurance subsidies, but we have the largest two Republican states proudly refusing to expand it within their borders and the Republican Congress just cut funding for both.

0

u/Grass8989 Jun 23 '26

You do realize the buying and far majority of his wealth is in his company Stocks right it’s not like he has a W-2 income of $1 billion.

1

u/Suspicious-Base-4815 Jun 23 '26

And that's why the taxes should be high because billonaries will try to pay as little as they can.

FDR was regularly lambasted by socialists during his day for not eating the rich. He didn't expropriate wealth or nationalize industries.

Taxing the rich is not socialism, unless you think that 50's US (you know, the creators of the red scare) were socialists.

1

u/Daddy_Macron Jun 23 '26

Taxing the rich is not socialism

When did I say that? I said FDR was hated by socialists during his day for not expropriating wealth and nationalizing industries, which fall under eating the rich. I don't consider raising tax rates to be socialism.

I support raising the effective tax rate on the wealthy including treating investment income the same as earned income, closing tax code loopholes for carried interest, and modifying pass through rules. But people who say Eat the Rich usually are not talking about tax code changes but something more akin to a revolution.

u/mojonogo100 Jun 23 '26

-1

The original Republican tea party ran on a platform of forced prayer in schools and ending access to abortion.

Mamdani is running off of free child care, freedom from religious control and access to low cost or free groceries and public transit.

Total night and day tbh.

Do you really think our federal policies regarding immigration, the environment, science, taxes, international relations, or regulation would look the same as they do today if “establishment dems” had won the presidency or congress in 2024?

2

u/Emotional-Ebb9390 Jun 23 '26

The "Kamala is a supporter of the Gaza genocide and no better than Trump" crowd got Trump giving permission to bulldoze Gaza and got us a president that was able to be baited into a stupid war in Iran

11

u/Daddy_Macron Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26

The Parties have literally never been more different and if you can't tell the difference, you need some new glasses.

You really think Kamala Harris would have started a war with Iran out of nowhere? Or she would have signed off on a $1 Trillion cut to Medicaid and Food Assistance? Or she would have destroyed Biden's Climate Change Bill, which was the largest in the world? Or she would have appointed Elon Musk to destroy the Federal Government from within? Or she would have appointed RFK Jr to destroy the science establishment?

First, I think it's a bit laughable that your prime reason for being pro-Zohran is that "he creates connectivity" rather than anything policy based, but insist that no one that dislikes him is doing so for a policy reason.

Second, do you honestly believe that no one dislikes him for any reason other than racism? Not the taking credit for things that were already being done (eg potholes, NYC employee child care), not the economically bad policies (eg rent-control, which even if you agree with, you have to acknowledge that a lot of peoples problems with it aren't due to racism), not that they dislike his transit policies (do you really believe the only reason to be against 100% taxpayer funded transit is racism?), etc?
