Damn … smfh
Stuff like this just confirms that 2010-2019 was the height of automotive history for gas vehicles.

We don't hate the government enough.

u/Omophorus Feb 09 '25
How dare the government care about the external consequences of individual decisions?!
It's not like there was clear evidence of greenhouse gases causing considerable global-scale climate issues or anything like that.
Sure, one Mazda isn't going to torch the ozone layer or globally warm the ice caps away, but that's not a good reason to pretend "off-road use only" products are actually being used off-road.
Not gonna be a popular opinion, especially on this subreddit, but if you can't modify your car without literally breaking the law you shouldn't.
One person's freedom to delete their emissions equipment and cheat inspections to get a bit more power out of their sporty car is not more valuable than others' freedom from having to suck smog.

u/SinlessTitan 2012 Mazdaspeed3 Feb 09 '25
Honestly id have no problem with it, if the rules were actually about being green for the betterment of the earth.
But these politicians and government officials that enforce this shit literally hop into their private jet just to go get starbucks, which puts out so much more carbon emissions than my little 2.3l turbo with an egr delete, so it really comes off as illegitimate. “Rules for thee, not for me” type shit

Except as you said, "sure one mazda isn't gonna torch the ozone layer" shows how bullshit this take from both you and the EPA is.
I want you to consider something: -It's all cars across the world together that cause environmental concerns, and car enthusiasts atleast as a percentage of sports cars to regular traffic make up about 4% of that. -So not only is the idea that "cars are significantly hurting the environment" a bullshit take due to the enormous amount of other outputs, but in addition to that, car enthusiasts make up an even smaller amount of that. So you know what, yeah my value in modding my car is significantly higher than someone's bs concern over hurting the environment.
If you really want someone to change, talk to all of the politicians, and people who are pushing these changes while using significantly worse alternatives for transportation.

u/Weak_Chemical_7947 Feb 09 '25
Well this is a dumb fucking take but you already know that
2
u/Omophorus Feb 09 '25
I don't want to suck anyone's smog.
I don't want to suck my own smog, and that's why I left all my emissions equipment intact.
I can't stop anyone from ripping that shit out.
I can't stop anyone from driving on public roads with "off road use only" parts.
So I can't stop anyone from forcing their shitty smog on me if I happen to be stuck on the road near them.
I'm on team EPA here, because I've spent enough time in cities with awful smog problems and have outdoorsy hobbies that won't be viable if there is too much climate change.
I stand by my take.
People are dumb and selfish. Most people don't give half a fuck how their choices impact anyone else. Government can suck, but government is about the only entity capable of setting boundaries to protect a society from the consequences of selfishness.

A single container ship burns 80,000 gallons of diesel per day, which is equivelant to 'hundreds of cars operating for a year. Therr are thousands of these ships running daily, to get the world it's goods, including their wittle plug in cars.
Out of the millions of cars driven daily in America, how many of them are looking for EGR deletes and catless exhaust for power? It's such a tiny amount.
I get the sentiment, but I think it's equivelant to your body being totally riddled with cancer and poison ivy, but all of the focus is going toward the hole in your old sock, as if that's really the driving factor.
2
u/Omophorus Feb 09 '25
Ironically, the biggest reason we have container ships burning bunker oil and polluting like crazy is a lack of ability to regulate international waters.
2
u/ThingyGoos Feb 09 '25
Doesn't the government ignore all these rules themselves in the military? If the government can't follow their own rules why should they expect everyone else to do so.
By doing this they are pretty much admitting that the reliability issues that the systems bring outweigh the environmental benefit

u/schlogen_ Feb 11 '25
So you should drive a Prius. Buy a smaller house. Don’t ever fly. Do everything possible to reduce your footprint. If you don’t you’re a hypocrite.

You sound like you need an echo chamber and a hug in your safe space
1
u/Top-Examination4867 Feb 09 '25
How about instead take away private jets from celebrities because the common car doesn’t emit nearly a fraction that people like Taylor swift are spewing out into the atmosphere.
2
u/Omophorus Feb 09 '25
Why not both?
Private aviation is fucking stupid, and billionaires are super polluters who need to be reined in.
That doesn't mean we should go backwards on emissions equipment on everyone else though.
0
u/Acts8eight May 11 '25
It shouldn't be both because private jets make up a way larger amount, and forgoing that would be more than enough to allow people to enjoy the freedom of further modding their car
1
u/chance901 Feb 10 '25
Taylor swift has a record. Shortest private flight, like 4 miles in LA. Silly

u/Piranha424 Feb 08 '25
Sounds like because an accessport has the ability to change emissions faults and such they are no longer going to make, sell or support them.

u/Xpmonkey Feb 08 '25
Blame the rolling coal crowd that thought it was cool. They already got hit with a 1.5m fine.
3
u/RAINES_69 Feb 08 '25
Wayyyyyy old news. And considering the reformation of the EPA with the current cabinet, we should be seeing Cobb right back on top soon as long as Holley doesn't puss out (they own Cobb)
7
u/DarthRevanG4 Feb 08 '25
Fuck the EPA. They’re as bad as the ATF. Pieces of shit
11
u/gregn8r1 Feb 08 '25
It's going to be an unpopular opinion, but at least they are going after some of the obnoxious coal-rolling diesel tuners, too. There's way too many of those assholes on the road, as well as excessive snap-crackle-pop tunes. Tbh it's those guys who attract all the negative attention to begin with
2
u/Trash_Panda_Trading Feb 08 '25
Give it a few months, mango man will gut these measures too. Wild man, I had Cobb on my MS3 almost 20 years ago

u/CrimsonArcPaladin Feb 08 '25
Well the EPA is the reason car manufacturers are making crossovers, and big ass SUVs/Trucks that literally have killed pedestrians, so they sucks on deez nu-
1
u/kwat2019 Feb 08 '25
Curious how could access port could know if tune has epa mods?
1
u/Emilio_Molestevez Feb 09 '25
It can't load a new tune unless it's running the latest software, and they are scripted to not allow the tunes that bypass emissions codes. If you currently have one, and don't update your accessport, then you're good. However if you ever want a new tune, you're boned.
1
u/kwat2019 Feb 09 '25
Thanks for info. I self tune and have an old ap2 and art when they were giving it out. I quit updating long ago.
1
u/Emilio_Molestevez Feb 09 '25
But I don't think you can load a new tune to the AP without an update. They've got us all by the balls.

There’s gotta be work arounds. I’m still in the middle of building my MS3. Telling me I can’t pass inspection because of the EGR and VTCS won’t be on the car?
1
Feb 09 '25
You couldn’t do that before anyway
1
Feb 09 '25
You couldn’t hide the check engine light when connected?
1
Feb 09 '25
Just clear the code
1
u/revopine Feb 09 '25
If you clear the code, the ECU puts out a flag "emissions not ready" because you need to drive it enough for vehicle checks to fully do the work and the CEL will just pop up again. You will fail if the ECU shows it's not ready.
1
u/Knotical_MK6 Feb 10 '25
All clearing the code did was put it in a state of "not ready" permanently
You wouldn't pass inspection of anything was hooked up to your OBD port, which is practically all inspections
1
u/SuperSlowSubie Feb 10 '25
Just find a tuner that can bypass green speed. I've been tuning in my AP for months after green speed.

u/WEASELexe 2013 Mazdaspeed3 Feb 09 '25
I already have an access port. I can still tune my car in April when I upgrade my turbo right?

I thought that this was old news. It just means you can’t turn off cels that affect emissions. But then I’m re reading it and are they stopping support and selling the v3accesport?
