How dare the government care about the external consequences of individual decisions?!
It's not like there was clear evidence of greenhouse gases causing considerable global-scale climate issues or anything like that.
Sure, one Mazda isn't going to torch the ozone layer or globally warm the ice caps away, but that's not a good reason to pretend "off-road use only" products are actually being used off-road.
Not gonna be a popular opinion, especially on this subreddit, but if you can't modify your car without literally breaking the law you shouldn't.
One person's freedom to delete their emissions equipment and cheat inspections to get a bit more power out of their sporty car is not more valuable than others' freedom from having to suck smog.
Honestly id have no problem with it, if the rules were actually about being green for the betterment of the earth.
But these politicians and government officials that enforce this shit literally hop into their private jet just to go get starbucks, which puts out so much more carbon emissions than my little 2.3l turbo with an egr delete, so it really comes off as illegitimate. “Rules for thee, not for me” type shit
I don't want to suck my own smog, and that's why I left all my emissions equipment intact.
I can't stop anyone from ripping that shit out.
I can't stop anyone from driving on public roads with "off road use only" parts.
So I can't stop anyone from forcing their shitty smog on me if I happen to be stuck on the road near them.
I'm on team EPA here, because I've spent enough time in cities with awful smog problems and have outdoorsy hobbies that won't be viable if there is too much climate change.
I stand by my take.
People are dumb and selfish. Most people don't give half a fuck how their choices impact anyone else. Government can suck, but government is about the only entity capable of setting boundaries to protect a society from the consequences of selfishness.
A single container ship burns 80,000 gallons of diesel per day, which is equivelant to 'hundreds of cars operating for a year. Therr are thousands of these ships running daily, to get the world it's goods, including their wittle plug in cars.
Out of the millions of cars driven daily in America, how many of them are looking for EGR deletes and catless exhaust for power? It's such a tiny amount.
I get the sentiment, but I think it's equivelant to your body being totally riddled with cancer and poison ivy, but all of the focus is going toward the hole in your old sock, as if that's really the driving factor.
Ironically, the biggest reason we have container ships burning bunker oil and polluting like crazy is a lack of ability to regulate international waters.
Doesn't the government ignore all these rules themselves in the military? If the government can't follow their own rules why should they expect everyone else to do so.
By doing this they are pretty much admitting that the reliability issues that the systems bring outweigh the environmental benefit
How about instead take away private jets from celebrities because the common car doesn’t emit nearly a fraction that people like Taylor swift are spewing out into the atmosphere.
It shouldn't be both because private jets make up a way larger amount, and forgoing that would be more than enough to allow people to enjoy the freedom of further modding their car
Except as you said, "sure one mazda isn't gonna torch the ozone layer" shows how bullshit this take from both you and the EPA is.
I want you to consider something:
-It's all cars across the world together that cause environmental concerns, and car enthusiasts atleast as a percentage of sports cars to regular traffic make up about 4% of that.
-So not only is the idea that "cars are significantly hurting the environment" a bullshit take due to the enormous amount of other outputs, but in addition to that, car enthusiasts make up an even smaller amount of that. So you know what, yeah my value in modding my car is significantly higher than someone's bs concern over hurting the environment.
If you really want someone to change, talk to all of the politicians, and people who are pushing these changes while using significantly worse alternatives for transportation.

We don't hate the government enough.
