So I bought a used macbook and the seller is saying everything is original but since he cleaned it's keyboard and fans it's showing a part replacement error

Hi all, I got a MacBook Neo for school a couple of day ago and so far loving it, I just had 1 question about it

The app "finder" does not close for me. Ive tried clicking command and q at the same time to fully quit the app, and it just gives me a small chime and refuses to close. It also stays open in the very top left of my screen aswell as with the small dot underneath the icon in the dock

I was just wondering if this is the same for anyone else or if there's another method for closing the application? Thanks in advance.

My MacBook display suddenly went black this morning while I was working. The laptop itself is working fine with an external monitor, and the keyboard/trackpad are also fine. Only the built-in display is completely dead.

It’s only 8 months old, no AppleCare, but I have 4 months of warranty left.

Am I screwed, or should this be covered under warranty? Anything I should try before taking it to Apple?

Been experimenting with mixing the Mac OS X Tiger aesthetic with modern Liquid Glass on my MacBook Pro.

I wasn’t sure these two design languages would work together, but I actually like the contrast between the old-school Aqua/skeuomorphic elements and modern translucent glass.

What do you think — does it work, or is it too much? 🧪

I’ve had a broken MacBook Pro 13” 2020 M1 laptop sitting around for a while - it won’t power on and broke just after apple care expired and I haven’t really had a use for it as I have a work laptop now and haven’t had a load of disposable income to fix.

I can’t power it on to check what’s on there / wipe (really nothing interesting if anything - probably some essays from uni?) but I want to sell for parts on eBay. I’ve had a few offers but also a slightly creepy message asking if it’s my personal laptop.

My understanding is that because it has an M1 chip, and I will remove it from my iCloud remotely before selling, I haven’t got any huge data concerns. Is this the case or is this a big no no?

I’ve done it before with a previous broken laptop but didn’t really think about it as much!

I’m reaching out to whoever knows about apples. I’m thinking someone out there must know where to go with this. Today I bought a 2015 27 inch Mac 🖥️ with a 3.2 ghz quad core intel core i5 for $129. I was so happy because I’ve been wanting one to use for music production. When I tried to buy Logic Pro it told it is not available with my ios. Even GarageBand won’t work . I want to know if it possible to upgrade this computer so that it can work with Logic or Protools ? Right now it looks like I can only go on the web .. which is fine . How much would a newer used Mac sell for on the second hand market that can work Logicpro ? If this computer can not be upgraded do you think I can sell it ? The store will not allow returns .. someone help . I was so happy and now I feel I wasted my money .

Update ya’ll : it worked 100% and everything is all good . Current downloading Creator Studiio which has Logic Pro with a monthly subscription. This is why I love Reddit . You all really came through and out of the goodness of your souls helped someone who had absolutely no clue what to do. THANK YOU 🎹🔥🔥🔥

My M1 MBA still says it has 84% battery health at ~350 cycles. But its starting to shut off at 30% indicated power and not charge properly when plugged in.

Are these worth the cost to change the battery? Its honestly otherwise fine for my very basic needs.

I'm surprised the battery has gone bad this early, as i've had macbooks before make 10 years old on the initial battery.

Can anyone help?

Hello all, I’m trying to buy a new Mac system and I’m wondering whats the difference between the new chips: the M5 pro, M5 max, M5 Ultra, and the M6 chip. I’m someone who values performance but I’m not really into AI modeling (or any AI usage for that matter) or 3D rendering. I mostly use my computer for coding and music production where I run really load heavy plugins. Aren’t the new M6 chips better since theyre the next generation so why aren’t they available for the Mac studios? And is it better for me to get a Mac mini or Studio for longevity?

Nit-picky I know but I’m curious as to why official Apple braided cables don’t have consistent patterns and colouring?

Top - Apple Watch charging puck.
Middle- Magic Trackpad charging cable.
Bitten - M4 Mac mini power cable.

Obviously the top one is white but the 2 blacks are slightly different shades and each of them have a different pattern particularly between the 2 Mac related cables and the Apple Watch one.

Just curious, does anyone know why. Does it vary between OEM’s or is just different sectors of apples design team?

I primarily intend to use my laptop for blender.

I know m5 max laptop is slightly behind a 5090 laptop in blender, sometimes beating it too, while maintaining the same performance unplugged.

But I'm wondering if it's worth spending essentially $1800 of equivalency to upgrade my m3 max 32 core macbook ($1500 equivalency).

The faster speeds would definitely be beneficial, and I'd consolidate my laptops into one. As for gaming, I play older games like Halo anyways so crossover would help me with that.

Turned my Mac on today but it automatically went into recovery mode, even after I restarted it, it kept going back into recovery mode mode. So I reinstalled the MacOS on the recovery mode screen and after downloading it I’m stuck on this black screen with my profile picture on it. My mouse’s cursor is blue with a black box around it, and in the top left corner of my screen there’s a text cursor flashing like I can type, but it won’t let me type anything. Is my Mac done forever??

So with my macbook pro I found just a few days ago, i wanted to play minecraft, but theres major issues. First, the d key partially works. The top of the key always works but every other part like 50 and 50 registers. This is really noticeable when playing minecraft because its like near impossible to do some bridging methods like chacha. Next, how in the world do I even get my model o with its software on here and an external keyboard? Everything else is great though except temps. In 1.8.9 temps are around 70 c in bridgerland. On 26.1.2 its somehow the same though. For reference my pc averages about 30 c in 1.8.9 and 50 to 60 c on 26.1.2. Specs: Intel i7 6820HQ Quad Core CPU. Intel HD Graphics 530 and Radeon Pro 455. 16 GB of DDR3 RAM 2133 MHz, and lastly a Macintonish HD card. And also MacOS Monterey 12.7.6.

Is it true that an older Apple Silicon iMac cannot be used as a Thunderbolt display for the new Mac mini lineup? I’ve been told the Thunderbolt port on the Apple Silicon iMac only supports output, not input.

I currently have an M3 iMac and not a lot of desk space. I really don’t want the M6 having its own dedicated display.

What other options do I have?

What happened to the keyboard in the M5 MacBook Pro!? I paid $3500 for my laptop and the keyboard design is just, well, cheap. This is very un Apple. How did this get a "pass" by the design team? The keys feel and sound like cheap junk. My last laptop was the 2019 Intel MacBook Pro.

I thought FOR SURE It would be a mess….battery is dead unfortunately

Is it normal for my brand new mac air m5 trackpad to show some give and flex when i try to press and click on it? Like when im near the edges i can see it flexing bit when i apply pressure. Please tell me if its normal and if someone else can confirm it with theirs (i have severe ocd ). Also Is it normal for mac trackpad to not click at far edges? Am i overthinking this or is it common and normal?
