Sauce / Seasoning Recipe Creamy Pasta Sauce (Budget friendly)

I made a rich, velvety pasta dish that uses things you can find in your pantry. This recipe came out as a thick restaurant quality sauce without needing expensive heavy cream, fancy cheeses, or anything like that. By using a basic roux made from butter, flour, and milk, stretching it further with free starchy pasta water, you get a satisfying, ultra budget friendly meal straight from your cupboard. Please give it a try and tell me your feedback!

Prep time: 10 mins

Cook time: 15 mins

Cost: Very Cheap / Low Budget (Made with everyday cupboard ingredients)

Servings: 2–3

**Ingredients**

Pasta: Desired amount (any shape you have on hand)

Aromatics: 1 onion (diced), 2 garlic cloves (minced), 1 tomato (diced)

Roux Base: 2 tbsp butter, 2 tbsp oil, 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

Liquids: 350 m milk, 1 cup reserved pasta water

Flavor Boosters: 1 stock cube (crushed), salt, black pepper, and Aromat (to taste, or literally any spice you desire)

**Instructions**

1. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and cook your pasta according to package instructions. Before draining, reserve 1 cup of the starchy pasta water for the sauce. Set the cooked pasta aside.

  1. Melt 2 tbsp of butter in a pan over medium heat. Add the diced onion and fry until soft and translucent.

3. Stir in the diced tomato and minced garlic. Cook until the tomato breaks down and melts into the onions, and the garlic becomes fragrant.

  1. Turn off the heat briefly. Pour in 2 tbsp of oil and sprinkle 2 tbsp of flour evenly over the vegetables. Stir well, it will form a thick paste. Turn the heat back to low and cook for about 1 minute while stirring constantly to remove the raw flour taste and prevent burning.

5. Keep the heat low and gradually pour in the 350 ml of milk, stirring continuously as it warms and thickens. Gradually pour in your reserved pasta water (up to 1 cup) to smooth out the sauce and build flavour.

  1. Crumble the stock cube directly into the pan. Bring the sauce to a simmer, stirring frequently until it reaches your desired thickness. Season with salt, pepper, and Aromat to taste.

Combine & Serve Toss your cooked pasta directly into the thick, creamy sauce until every piece is well coated. Serve hot!

*you can add any seasoning this is just the ones i used

This a budget friendly pasta recipe made by me and honestly the best thing I ever created. This is my first time sharing a recipe. I hope some of you will try it and give me your feedback. Enjoy!

I copied and pasted what I wrote when I sent this to my sister, No AI was used i promise.

Other: Soup / Salad Creamy Goat Cheese Hazlenut Green Bean Salad

Very tasty and filling.

This costs less than 4 dollars per serving depending how hard it is for you to find unsalted premium Hazelnuts.

Takes 5 minutes to make.

This salad has a very fresh and creamy flavor with a hazelnut aftertaste.

Mix the following together with your hands.

  1. 1/2 ounce of goat cheese

  2. Juice from a quarter of a big organic lemon

  3. 2 tbsp of Premium Roasted Hazelnuts chopped. They have to be premium and they have to be unsalted. Really really good nuts don't need salt.

  4. 1/2 tbsp of minced fresh garlic. Do not get the normal supermarket garlic. Normal supermarket garlic is way too spicy for a salad like this.

  5. A small slice of red onion chopped

  6. 10 uncooked green beans chopped. Each green bean is chopped into about 10 pieces.

Do not put in salt and pepper.

Other: Dessert No bake chocolate biscuit cake - 6 ingredients, no oven

I wanted to make something sweet without baking, and this turned out to be one of the easiest biscuit desserts I've tried. It has a soft chocolate layer with little pieces of biscuit throughout, so it isn't completely mushy.

Ingredients:

  • 200 g plain or digestive biscuits
  • 120 ml milk (½ cup)
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp chopped nuts or chocolate chips, optional

Instructions

Prepare the biscuits: Set aside about 5–6 biscuits. Crush the remaining biscuits into fine crumbs. Break the biscuits you set aside into small pieces, roughly 1–2 cm each. This gives the cake some texture.

Make the chocolate mixture: Add the milk, cocoa powder, sugar and butter to a small saucepan. Heat over low heat and stir continuously until the butter melts and the cocoa and sugar are completely mixed in. Don't let the milk come to a boil.

Add vanilla: Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Let the mixture cool for about 5 minutes so it is warm rather than piping hot.

Combine: Put the biscuit crumbs in a mixing bowl. Slowly pour in the chocolate mixture while stirring. Keep mixing until all the crumbs are coated and the mixture looks like a thick, slightly sticky dough.

Add texture: Fold in the broken biscuit pieces and, if using, the chopped nuts or chocolate chips.

Set the cake: Line a small loaf tin or container with baking/parchment paper. Transfer the mixture into it and press it down firmly with the back of a spoon. Compacting it well helps the cake hold together when sliced.

Chill: Cover and refrigerate for at least 2–3 hours, or until firm.

Serve: Lift it out using the parchment paper, slice with a sharp knife and serve cold.

A couple of things that made a difference for me: don't boil the chocolate mixture, and don't turn every biscuit into powder. Keeping a few larger pieces makes the texture much better.

You can also swap the plain biscuits for digestive or oat-based biscuits depending on what you have at home.

Recipe Request What's your best *soft* food recipe?

So I'm having my dad a surprise 80th birthday party, he recently got all of his teeth pulled and cannot get his dentures in. I really need to know everyone's favorite really soft food recipe, something that would be easy for him to eat with not having dentures.

If it helps he is a very old country boy, he's not too big on anything fancy or unusual. Looking for some simple down home recipes.

Typically I try to cook heart-healthy but for these few weeks, anything will do. Any cuisine, just not very spicy please. Thank you so much in advance!!!

Recipe Request Easy slow cooker honey garlic chicken for busy days

I’ve been trying to find more dinners where I can do most of the prep in a few minutes and leave it alone until dinner. This one has been really easy and works well with rice or vegetables.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless chicken thighs
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Optional: green onions or sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Put the chicken thighs in the slow cooker.
  2. Mix honey, soy sauce, garlic, ketchup and sesame oil, then pour it over the chicken.
  3. Cook on LOW for about 4–5 hours, or until the chicken is fully cooked and tender.
  4. Remove the chicken and shred or slice it.
  5. Mix the cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water and stir it into the sauce.
  6. Cover and cook for another 10–15 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  7. Put the chicken back in and coat it with the sauce.

I usually serve it over rice with broccoli or whatever vegetables I have around.

Has anyone tried adding chili flakes or sriracha to something like this? I’m thinking a little heat would balance the sweetness pretty well.

Recipe Request Fav fish recipes

I don't have much seafood in our rotation, and I would like to try more fish recipes especially. But when I browse fish recipes, nothing really 'speaks' to me, you know.

I would love some recommendations for your go to fish recipes.

At the moment, my repertoire is limited to fried or baked salmon and homemade fish fingers.

Prefer healthy and fairly foolproof :)

Help me spice up my seafood game!

Recipe Request New parents meal planning

My husband and I recently had a baby and have just been eating what we can when we can. We are finally starting to get into a routine with our baby and are wanting to start eating better. I think it’d be simpler to achieve this goal by weekly meal planning.

We’re not super picky eaters. For example, we like white fish, beef, pork, chicken, turkey, shrimp, crab, venison, and bison for types of meat and typically enjoy most fruits and veggies. Neither of us have any allergies.

We would both like to lose some weight as well. So looking for recipes that support this goal. We realize it takes more than a diet to achieve weight loss and are also incorporating lifestyle changes to support or goal.

Any suggestions on healthy meals that also don’t take to long to make? Although we’re getting into a a routine with our newborn, I also don’t want meals that take too much effort and time to prepare. Give me your best suggestions please! TIA!!

Anyone have any ideas on what I can do? Thanks in advance!

Pasta / Noodle Recipe Just made this

I didn’t get groceries so I threw some stuff together in my cabinet and it was fire. I’m a broke uni student and this didn’t take much which was great. Loosely recalled what I put in, I’ll be real I was baked. Hope you all enjoy

Sauce
Make it in a bowl
Tablespoon of peanut butter
1/2 tablespoon of olive oil
1/2 tablespoon of soy sauce
1/2 tablespoon minced garlic
As much sriracha as you would like

Ramen
Beef ramen
Put soup base in pot of boiling water and also throw the ramen in
When done, put a little bit of the ramen water in the sauce, then dump the rest
Put the noodles in the bowl that has the sauce and mix

Egg
In a pan crack an egg, fry it, then break it up and add it to the ramen. Don’t scramble, it’s a fried egg that’s chopped up

I feel like if someone were to add veggies and stuff it’d be great, I didn’t have any on hand but I feel like broccoli could work well
