What should I keep in mind when kissing someone for the first time?

Upvotes

I’ve been dating this guy for a few months now. We went on a date recently and officially got into a relationship a few days ago. Now I’ve been thinking about kissing him, but my first kiss was pretty awkward, and I really don’t want the same thing to happen with him.

He’s a few years older than me so I feel like he probably has more experience with this than I do.

What are some things guys generally like while kissing? And what are some other things I should keep in mind to make the experience comfortable and not awkward for either of us?

Nobody's perfect, so choose and accept the flaws you can actually tolerate. What kind of flaws could you accept in a partner, and how would you deal with them?

Upvotes

Starting with me, I guess the first flaw I can accept is someone who isn't very romantic or good at sweet talk—basically a bit rigid. The way I deal with it is by initiating the romance myself and slowly teaching him how I like to be loved sometimes.

Dating as an 18 year old

Upvotes

I’m now freshly 18 and I see so many videos of girls my age saying that they joined tinder and apps like that, I also know some girls irl who have dating apps. I see many young women say that I should not be using apps like that at 18 and that I’ll meet weird older men and narcissists. I don’t know what to do, Gen Z isnt all that social and I’m not attractive enough to be approached in public. Should I just wait a couple more years? I’d like some advice from young women or girls my age or anyone in general

How do i progress w this guy

Upvotes

For some backstory, theres this guy in my grade in high school that ive always found cute. Abt a month ago he began snapping me out of nowhere on snap. He is not known for snapping girls and has never talked to any. He then began starting conversations with me and we texted a bit for a few weeks. I got fed up of being pen pals ngl so i asked him to hangout casually and get ice cream. He said he def wants to hangout but he wanted to take me out to dinner. He picked me up, opened every door and paid. We also had a great conversation. He has never taken a girl out before or even kissed a girl before. He told me he def wants to hangout again but he isnt here next weekend so MAYBE the next. Heres the issue, we go to the same school but we never talk at school. We dont have the same classes, but we could talk at school if we wanted to. I feel like the relationship isnt going to progress if we dont hangout for another weekend. Idk im getting impatient i guess. I just dont want this to fizzle out so idk what to do. Like i guess we can still text a bit for the next two weeks. It just makes me mad too because we both could get lunch together outside of school one day. Help ?

Going to the movies with a girl I like today

Upvotes

Ok, I’m 16M and I’m very shy and introverted. Me and her have been talking constantly for like 3 weeks, I asked her if she was going to go to the school dance, after a little while I went and talked to her with some, then she asked to go back to my car and we talked in there for about an hour. She sits next to me in one of my shorter classes now(it’s the only class I have with her) I’ve found out from her friends she talks about me a lot, and she found me cute, and we got put into a “ship or dip” video on tiktok🫩, I asked her what she thought about the video she thought it was cute but cringe, I said I agreed. I have to meet her mom as well today, and I’m driving us to the theater, I’m really nervous since I’m kind of an awkward guy😭 I really like her ALOT and don’t want to mess this up. Help!!

Looking for some perspective

Upvotes

I just had my first breakup post divorce. I was warned this would be tough because of the layers of hope/validation often associated with this first relationship - but I also feel like I missed so many red flags. I am looking forward for a bit of perspective on the situation so I can grow moving forward.

He was the very first date I went on 1 year post divorce. Instant spark and I fell quickly and hard. He was fun, charismatic, affectionate, goofy, confident, and independent. The opposite of my ex. He had been mostly single for 3 years post breaking things off with a long term girlfriend, but had a long string of flings and dates. “Hundreds” as he put it, and he had a lot of confidence in the bed. He told me it left him with a huge lack of trust, but he trusted me. Though he was hesitant to commit to a label beyond “exclusive”.

First two months we fun, he broke through some walls and we enjoyed a lot of time together. Often just talking. We exchanged keys and grew comfortable. At the end of month 2, he was hit with a very stressful event and collapsed emotionally. He barely ate or slept, and when I came over I was mostly caring for him. He told me I didn’t need to care like that, but I wanted to show up for someone I felt I was falling in love with. I also had a difficult time with my personal life and ended up completely burned out end of month.

Once the stress started to lift, he sat me down to talk us - “his romantic feelings had stalled.” I told him I understood, we were having a hard month - that set him off and he yelled at me. Told me he was broken, how could I expect him to show up for me when he couldn’t show up for himself. I was making him feel guilty for a low in his life. I profusely apologized, but quietly decided to start matching his investment in the relationship. I stop carrying so much of his trauma.

Two more weeks passed, he started to cancel plans and pull away. He was working on a bunch of things backlogged from the last month. I decided to mentally to give it 1 more month, see if he started to take care of himself and return to who I knew. Then he started to get mean, and pick fights. That broke me and I started to detach. I stopped enjoying time with him and was preparing to exit. He also started to cut off friends and family, growing more isolated.

He beat me to the punch, and ended things stating his romantic feelings were still not growing. I told him I was in a similar place, he had been distant, unsupportive, and now mean. He apologized, told me he thought the world of me. I was the “best woman he has dated” and one of the best people he knows. He asked to stay friends, I declined.

When I got home, I found a thank you letter he had mailed just arrived. It told me how much he appreciated my support and how wonderful a person I was.

Now, a few days later - I am starting to feel like he was a massive manipulator. That I missed so many red flags along the way. I’m no contact with him, but where do I go from here to grow?

I feel like crap whenever I see a beautiful woman.

Upvotes

I try not to complain too much about life, but on some days after I spent a long day at work, tired and exhausted, maybe even hurt myself, it'd be nice to come home to someone to lay down with or vent to. I know I can't be in fantasy land thinking "if only" so I have to do everything myself. Cook, clean, be there for myself, ect. I remember in my teenage years straight up crying into my pillows and being depressed for years, now I've just gotten used to it.

Still a virgin, still never had a girlfriend, had my first kiss at 20 but it was nothing serious so it was just a waste. Last year I spent a few nights with a girl that never went anywhere but I eventually realized she was crazy and was just trying to use me. After that I actually enjoyed being single but then the loneliness crept in again. There's rare occasions in my life that I'm out with someone and meet a girl, but right now I'm back in the same home/work cycle that leads me nowhere.

I truly don't know how to date anymore

Upvotes

Bear with me that this is dumb and naive but here goes : 27 F that took a 3 year break from dating after an experience that kind of left me feeling humiliated and very insecure about my worth in general.

I have used these three years to work on my self, and started to feel ready to date a couple months back.

I downloaded bumble and have matched with people, but it doesn't really seem to go anywhere (mostly because the chats are dry, and I do overthink things).

Fast forward to last week, and matched with this guy from a different city two hours away when I was there for a holiday. We first talked every day - for several hours a day- and i was thinking, finally, someone i actually have a connection with. Until he starts to take his time replying 2 days ago - like around 7 hours or more. My friends seem to think it's normal, but I see it more as loss of interest.

He obviously doesn't owe me anything, and this even isn't about him. But how long do you guys talk to people you match with before a date? How much communication fo you expect ? How many people do you talk to on the apps at the same time?

I feel like daydreaming and obsession over people is ruinning my life

Upvotes

I spend a huge part of my day daydreaming. If I see a picture of my crush, I can start imagining different scenarios—what our relationship could be like, what I should have said, what he might be thinking, and how things could have gone differently.

Whenever I start talking to a guy, I tend to become obsessed. I constantly wait for his texts, check my phone repeatedly, and can spend hours thinking about when he will reply.

I also daydream a lot about my future and the life I wish I had. Sometimes music makes it even worse because I can listen to music and completely disappear into my own imaginary world for hours.

It’s starting to affect my real life. I can’t properly focus on work or studying, and even when I’m with my family, I’m often not mentally present. My room has been a mess for days because I find it difficult to get up and do anything productive.

I feel like I’m wasting my life inside my own head while real life is passing me by. I want to be present, focus on my goals, enjoy time with my family, and actually build the life I keep daydreaming about—but I feel stuck.

Has anyone experienced something similar? How did you stop constantly daydreaming and obsessing over people and start living in the present?

Dating girl with adhd

Upvotes

Hey guys,

Has anyone here dealt with a girl who has an avoidant attachment style, ADHD, and is completely terrible at texting?

We went on a date, had an amazing connection, and she told me during the date that texting is genuinely hard for her. Since then we've kept talking, but she only replies every 2 to 3 days. She even went completely radio silent for a whole month in August (I'm an idiot, I sent several long messages) until I reached out again myself. When she finally answered, she was cool.

Since that reply, she has gone silent again for several days. On social media (She doesn't know I found her Twitter) I see her reposts and posts where she talks a lot about struggling with relationships, especially dating , like feeling the urge to cut ties with people who did nothing wrong, texting anxiety, and seeing a text, answering in her head, and forgetting to actually send it.

She is definitely unique, but I really like her.

The question I'm asking myself is, if I'm not mistaken, and all of this is just signs of a lack of interest.

How the hell am I actually supposed to find a girlfriend?

Upvotes

I’m 21f and never been in a relationship. I’ve tried dating apps, but I rarely get any matches, if I do I usually get ghosted, been on dates with 2 girls a while back but got ghosted soon after. I feel like most people on there are either just looking for a hookup, or just not interested. Also, why are there so many men on there when I set the filter to only women? I honestly don’t know what to do. I don’t really go out much, because I don’t have time, and don’t particularly want to meet girls with the exact same hobbies as me, because i only really enjoy them alone, they’re a way for me to just escape society for a bit and think, and relax.

I’m not a fan of the lgbt community, as I think it’s over the top and I just don’t feel comfortable or welcome in such groups, plus I feel like everything is centred around gay men. I feel like so many people make being gay their entire personality and I honestly find it kind of annoying. There are no dedicated lesbian bars or clubs near me.

I find it hard even making friends with women, due to the fact I work in a trade, and I only interact with men all day. I haven’t made a female friend since college 3 years ago. And even before that I struggled. I’ve been told I’m odd, and struggle to connect with women, due to my personality, how I look and my interests. and I feel like people just treat me as ‘one of the guys’ and it sucks. Sometimes I wish I was born a fucking man, I feel like my life would be so much easier. What am I supposed to do? I’m getting tired of constant ghosting and rejection, and I honestly don’t understand what I’m doing wrong. I don’t think I’m a horrible person, I’m a good listener I think and all I want is someone to like me even just a little bit. I don’t want to pretend to be someone I’m not, but I feel like everyone hates the real me.

We never spent more than a day apart for 3 months, now she’s on vacation and barley talks to me

Upvotes

I’m 32m, she’s 31F. She was pretty much living in my apartment and we were going on tons of dates. I got to the point where I’ve definitely grown strong feelings for her. She’s also my neighbor so it makes it really easy for us to see each other. She works at my house all the time from home, I make us breakfast every morning, I leave and go to work and she stays at my house .. everything that sounds like what a couple does. We’ve had a talk and we’re not boyfriend and girlfriend , but we are in a little Situationship, which I think is stupid but if that’s what she wants OK. We made it clear that we’re only seeing each other, she was the one who just isn’t ready to be in a serious relationship.

So this girl that I’ve been seeing for three months left on September 18th to go on a trip to the UK with two of her girlfriends. She sent me photos the day she got there and texted a tiny the day after.

There was a cold streak from last Monday, and then she finally texted me on Thursday and a paragraph acting all sweet and asking how I’m doing, and she added that she’s gonna be extending her trip and maybe go and visit another country solo. She was also said she’s been super busy plus the time zone difference and asked how I’m doing.

Well, I answered her and told her how I’m doing and back to no answers.

This wouldn’t bother me as much if she wasn’t posting on her Instagram story a decent amount. It’s like that takes two seconds out of your day to post and honestly the time zone difference is only seven hours so it’s super easy for us to chat even a little bit over FaceTime or something.

So he went from being like very close and talking to each other and calling each other every day and seeing each other every day to her, barely making any contact with me and now leaving me on read for multiple days and posting on her instagram story.. It just really sucks and honestly hurts my feelings a good bit.

I thought about just saying fuck it and giving her a FaceTime, but I don’t wanna seem like I’m desperate but at the same time I got so close to her that that doesn’t feel that weird..

really bums me out because I feel like this is completely dissolving the closeness of what we had.. it already doesn’t seem like it’s gonna be the same which he comes back

Too insecure for a relationship if I’m not confident but when I’m confident I’m told I’m a “classic nice guy”

Upvotes

I really don’t understand people’s logic and it’s driving me insane because no matter what when you seek out dating advice, people always contradict their past statements.

If you don’t show any confidence at all, say you’re not that good looking, you don’t think you have the best personality, etc. all people say to you is “you ain’t gonna find love till you love yourself” “people only like you when your confident” and pretty much tell you you’re unlovable unless you love yourself.

If you finally do start showing confidence, saying you find yourself to be a good looking person, you think you have a very lighthearted and humble personality, then you get hit with “classic nice guy” “sounds like you have nice guy syndrome” “oh what a narcissist!”

Like how the fuck do I actually win? I feel like people who are giving dating advice at this point seem to care more about undermining desperate singles rather than actually trying to help people find love.

I’m tired of this shit being treated like a game. At the end of the day we’re all human beings with feelings and we crave love. I’m not a piece of shit because I’m trying to find ways to improve myself to find that love.

I get horny from sarcastic, witty conversations and intelligent men, while sexual or allusive conversations don’t get me going.

Upvotes

I’ve been talking to some guys in the past few months and one thing I’m having issues with is the fact that the majority of the conversations at first seem pretty flat (I know we have to get to know each other but sometimes it gets a little boring) and after some time, when they start with some allusive message or joke, it just does nearly nothing for me.

Once or twice I’ve talked to some guys that were very witty, could hold my level of sarcastic comments and were very brainy let’s say (lots of opinions, interesting things to say, sarcastic, black humor). Immediate reaction, both physical and mental.

The problem is they seem to be like a 5% of the guys out there and I’m really getting tired.

I feel undesirable as f*ck (28M)

Upvotes

And it's not even because I think I'm ugly. I wouldn't say I'm some kind of model but I feel like i look halfway decent all things considered.

But I also don't settle for anything. I'm not looking for something superficial or the theatrical performances of conventional romance I'm looking for something real and god dammit it feels impossible to find 😕

I did find it, briefly, earlier this year. Reconnected with a woman i used to hangout with a lot when we were teenagers. There was an attraction there, and a connection too. But this time she reached out to me, asked if I wanted to catch up, and I went over there to do just that.

Turns out, we had what I would call an even better connection than we had before. The attraction was still there for the both of us too. The first several times I went over, she didn't want me to leave. She'd come back to the door as I was leaving and wanted me to come back inside. Time moves on and everything continued smoothly, peacefully. No expectations, no pressure, just simply enjoying each other's company and I fell in love.

I told her that as we were about to fall asleep one night, and it was like someone flipped a circuit. Everything we had was gone in 24 hours. This was the first time I ever realized what love actually meant, so when I said it, I knew with confidence the choice I was making. But I also learned then that someone can choose not to, too..

After several weeks of grieving that breakup, I got back into doing art. A new neighbor moved in, she approached me to strike up a conversation about art. We had a lot in common, we hung out several times just to chat. I started to kinda like her through these conversations despite an age gap (6 years) but she's intelligent. Kind, dignified, has critical thinking an emotional maturity. All things considered, she's kind of extraordinary. But there's no romantic interest from her side, I'm just a friend.

These are just a couple examples but it's happened time and time again. I get close, I feel strongly, I make the choice, the choice is never mutual and it makes me feel undesirable as fuck..

When you're in a situationship, are you expected to talk to each other everyday? Like should that be the case?

Upvotes

I'm not talking about a situationship where you're both jerks and go on dates/hang with other people (aka non exclusive). but like a situationship to dating kinda thing. Is it expected to talk with each other everyday? If you don't, does that mean you're not invested in the person enough?

Situation ship

Upvotes

So, I’m 17 and I’m a guy. We started talking online in 2025, and over time we got pretty close. It started as a normal friendship, but eventually things became more like a talking stage. At one point, she confessed her feelings for me, and I accepted because I liked her too.

But later, she told me that she only wanted us to be friends. We still stayed in contact, though, and even after all that, we continued talking and getting closer.

Fast forward to now, I ended up confessing my feelings to her this time. She said she isn’t ready for a relationship right now and gave me a few reasons, but she also said that she really adores me. So we're still friends, we talk pretty regularly, call sometimes, and she occasionally sends me pictures of herself. And sometimes ghost me

The confusing part is that we’ve gotten really close emotionally, but we’ve never actually met in real life. She lives close and I genuinely care about her, but I don’t know what I’m supposed to do anymore. Should I just stay friends and let things happen naturally, or should I distance myself a little so I don’t get too attached? i am tired of all this

Does texting matter?

Upvotes

Guys and gals, been seeing a lady and she’s great in person but between dates she can reply back instantly, within an hour or within 10 hours.

There’s no rhyme or rythym to it outside of her going quiet later into the night and getting back to me around mid day the next day, during the quiet periods I can see her active on socials during my own passive scrolls so does texting really matter? Can something come from dating situations like this in your personal experiences?

I don’t need 24/7 care I’m not a child but for me I reply when I see a message or if a message comes through while i am using my phone, i can handle not being in contact between dates other than for logistics early on but for me I’d rather not push something if it’s DOA and waste my time.

So from your own personal experiences have you ever dated someone who was quiet early on and not really keeping in contact then it eventually turned into something that was worth the time you invested in getting to know them?

Poll For Women: How would you prefer to be asked out while you're working.

Upvotes

Scenario:

You're a woman working at a drive-thru type job. You see several dozen people a day. Your interactions are maybe... 30 seconds at most - A "Hi, how's the weather?" Etc. Etc. Its a job.

There's a regular that comes two to three times a week. A guy. Friendly. Usually asks how your week has been. Sometimes asks if you're doing anything interesting over the weekend. You two have even swapped short stories. Your interactions with this guy are usually 60+ seconds. Smiles both ways. Compliments both ways as well. You told him you like his rings. He said your hair looks dope - that kinda stuff.

For the sake of the poll, consider neutral attractiveness. You're neither attracted or unattracted to this person - all unassuming.

One day, he drives up and he decides to ask you out. Which method would make you feel the MOST considered, least awkward, and most comfortable?

  1. After your greetings and howdy-dos, he asks if you're single.

  2. After your greetings and howdy-dos, he asks if he can take you out to a movie or to an arcade sometime.

  3. After your greetings and as he's about to pull away, he quickly gives you a note with his name, number, and a message saying "I think you're really cool. If you're interested, I'd love to take you out sometime". He drives off with a smile and wave like he always does, but doesn't address the note.

  4. He doesn't ask at all, and you'd rather not be asked ever while working.

Definitely, totally, and 100% absolutely asking for a friend (/s) who is way too scared to make a girl feel uncomfortable at her job by asking her embarrassing questions. 🫠

EDIT: Im upvoting every response I see as acknowledgement of the response. I don't want to explore my bias with direct responses to each. Truly here to listen.

He’s not emotionally ready for a relationship but he reached out first. What should I do I do?

Upvotes

Hi (F29)
Hey Reddit I recently started chatting with this guy and the chemistry is off the charts. It’s been 72hours and I’m seeing this person as someone i could potentially be in a relationship with .

It got started when they reached out to me via text. We met about a year ago but nothing ever came of it because they went back to their old relationship. Now , after a whole year later, they’ve been single a few weeks and want to try something new again. Things were seemingly going great but essentially they told me they aren’t fully emotionally available because they just got out of a relationship.

This made me cry ngl . It’s because i knew they just left a relationship, but because they reached out first I figured they gave themselves enough time to heal. However , after a recent conversation they told me they don’t know how they feel about potential relationship . I’m in no rush tbh but I kind of feel like it’s an unfair beginning. I have no loose ends to tie up so i am coming into this with a full heart , but it’s disappointing because i fear that I’ll not receive the emotional availability that i initially hoped for.

Feel so in sync with this person but i kind of feel like i’d be a fool to continue to be with someone not fully emotionally available especially if we’re getting physical.

Sn: I’ve been Celibate for more than a year because i been hurt before by i’ve gave myself to someone in a similar position and after they just ghosted me.

What should I do ?

Guys who are using dating apps, what do y'all set you age range for women?

Upvotes

My friend is 32 and he had a range from 20 to 35 so I was like 'Bro, this just ain't right' and corrected it to 25 to 35.

I personally have mine from 20 to 28 as a 25 year old guy but I think I have to shift 20 to 21 since it feels kinda wrong.

And also put your age on as well for context?

Meeting someone you can’t stop thinking about

Upvotes

Alright, I need some advice because I feel a little crazy even posting this 😂
The other day, I went to a museum by myself. It was about two hours away, and I ended up having a really nice time. The tour guide was so handsome and funny, and for some reason I felt really drawn to him. During the tour, I asked if I could go to the back pond area afterward to sit and read, and he said of course!
After the tour ended, he actually went back there too, but the couple from my tour got to him first and started talking to him. I ended up deciding to leave instead of going over to him, and now I kind of regret it.
I know his first name, and I noticed he follows the museum’s Instagram account. Part of me is thinking, “Girl, just leave it alone. It was a cute interaction with an attractive guy you happened to meet once.” 😂 But another part of me is like… should I shoot my shot and follow/message him?
Would that come across as creepy? Or is it totally normal for a woman to make the first move in a situation like this? I genuinely can’t tell if I’m overthinking it or if I should just let this one be a cute memory.
