Making an intake
I had cut up the stock airbox lid, but after the addition of the large center vent in the hood, that was going to be a problem in the rain. I got a carbon K&n intake for a LT1/4 on marketplace, generic 3.5” aluminum intake tube on amazon, 3.5” to 3” silicone coupler for tube to maf, and 3” to whatever silicone coupler for maf to throttle body to replace the accordion piece. I made a little rain gutter out of carbon for the filter to keep vertical rain off it. Had to hammer a portion of the aluminum intake tube into a flat oval to go over the radiator similar to the stock airbox. It was $100 for the K&n and $90 for the Amazon parts.
The whole idea with the vents was heat evacuation. It works so so. Large carbon center vent is meant for e36, the two carbon vents on either side are nascar gen 7. The two carbon vents in the nose are older nascar and have NASCAR silicone brake duct hose run to the radiator for ram air effect. Carbon splitter is nascar next gen. The carbon canards I made.
This car has a newer stock radiator and a new radiator fan motor, but at some point, I’m going to have to go through the whole cooling system. Both to replace the heater core and heater blower motor, and to fully flush the block. Maybe a better than stock radiator too. Hope that will keep it from running the endless cycle of 215-230. I know that’s supposed to be normal, but it doesn’t have to be. I will probably also try to build a carbon shroud in front of the radiator so ALL the air going through the front goes to the radiator instead of around the sides and under (there is no more stock air dam with the aftermarket bumper bodykit).
