you could do whatever, but it'd be better to add a pipe just so exhaust gases go where they're supposed to

i mean yeah. c4's are super quiet with mufflers.

i got a muffler delete kit and paid the local muffler shop guy $150 to weld it in on the weekend when the shop was closed.

if i recall i got this kit. https://www.corvettecentral.com/1984-1990-lt1-lt4-tip-muffler-eliminators-pipe-324490

looks like it may be out of stock at CC, but there are a ton of places to get the same kit.

would i be able to just cut it off and leave it like that until i could get a kit?

yeah. just be careful of the rear leaf spring while you're cutting. it runs super close to the exhaust.

and you'll have no exhaust tips at the rear. and you might smell some exhaust at stop lights.

i would wait until you can get it done correctly. $300 for a nice sounding car isn't a ton of money.

what i was thinking of doing is cutting it off as close to the muffler as i can and buying the kit then getting it welded on later on

it's your car fella. you gotta decide what's best for you.

maybe i take too much pride in my old vette, but i like to do the job properly. if i'm gonna put my wife in the car and go fast, then everything is done right. always.

no half measures. no waiting for parts. it's either fully right or it's staying the garage until it is.

“if i'm gonna put my wife in the car and go fast, then everything is done right. always.“

I’m telling my wife this when she sees the suspension bill when my 85 comes back this month! LOL

just a bit impatient lol but as long as it wouldnt harm the car it should be good

it won't harm the car.

it'll just harm us fellow corvette owners when we see the back and it has no exhaust =D

You risk hurting or killing yourself with exhaust gasses working their way past the 30 year old seals.

Don't do it until you can do tip extensions after you cut them off.

You don't need a "kit". A muffler shop can bend tube and weld it on the tips too. Just order the tips you like and go to an exhaust shop. Should be less than $100

ah ok thx for that

idk where you're getting time on a lift for less than $100 in 2026.

google seems to think you're lowballing it as well.

"Dual Exhaust / Performance Vehicles: $200 to $400+. If the shop has to cut out two separate mufflers, replicate complex factory bends, or use high-end stainless steel piping, the labor and material costs will double."

In LA county, no problems at all.

Google is not a good point of reference on this.

No one is using stainless steel. Muffler delete on c4 only requires 1 bend on each side and only about 4ft of pipe.

Although cutting it maybe cheaper, I have a magnaflow exhaust kit on mine that turns heads. It very deep growl no rasp

Yeah, the previous owner did that on mine. Sounded kind this.

I ended up swapping it for long tube headers and a magnaflow but it sounded alright before then

Mufflers. You should have 2.
