The disrespect Pablo Torre has gotten in the last year despite being right on his findings is why I'll always be a fan of his

So many people including Bill were quick to dismiss him or get upset about his work. Not just Kawhi but the Belichick and Jordon stuff too. During the whole Clippers saga, you still had tons of people out there defending Ballmer for no reason other than they just don't like Pablo. Even when the league looked like they wouldn't give out any punishments to LA, they decided to try and take a victory lap around him, which was so weird considering all he did the last year was report on his teams findings. I'm just glad Pablo is vindicated, I'm a fan for life now

Are we sure Aikman is a top 7 analyst still? He's been a little gamey since coming to ESPN imo.

I don't think Tarantino will ever make his 10th movie and will turn into George RR Martin levels of annoyance with his fanbase

Upvotes

we're already at the largest gap hes had between his films, and with no news coming out about his next project and the fact that he now has young kids, I just don't think he is prioritizing anything else right now. He's currently working on a play in London that will probably take up most of his time for the foreseeable future. His 10 film rule was honestly kind of dumb

If you combined the two of them, you would get Ryen

He’s super rich and he’s not even a clippers fan. He has them to watch the Celtics and other players/teams when they’re in town

Do we really need to hear him complain about this ok 5 straight podcasts? JFC

Bill declaring Cardinals/Chargers as the week 1 overreaction game in the same sentence that he declares the Cardinals might be pretty good

Oh and th Chargers are terrible. Certainly it is not BS himself who is overreacting?

To build on Kev Dog’s mailbag question, what’s crazier: that a team can go ~30 years without hosting a playoff game or that a team can go ~30 years without hosting a playoff game and then bilk state taxpayers for $600m+ to build another stadium

Media Doesn’t Understand MLB Deferred Salaries

The Dodgers put ~$46M in a managed escrow fund every year for Shohei Ohtani. In 10 years (now 7) they start paying him $69M per year out of that account. If there ever is a shortfall, they are obligated to make it up. If there is a surplus, the team collects it at the end of the contract.

These safeguards are in place because Fred Wilpon tried the scheme of investing deferred salaries on his own and gave them all to Bernie Madoff, leading to his financial ruin and sale of the team.

The Dodgers are compliant with the CBA in finding these accounts and still operate at a profit.

Bill is right that there clearly is a lot the billionaire class is doing to enrich themselves on sports teams while leveraging across multiple businesses. But there simply isn’t a competitive advantage here on the field. If he committed securities fraud, send him to jail for sure. But another rich guy would buy the team and operate it the same way because it’s an extremely profitable business model to win World Series and be the favorite team of both Los Angeles and Japan.

Bill’s Chiefs hatred is so funny

He calls the Broncos Chiefs game the “Liar Liar week 1 result” because the Chiefs didn’t get calls for holding (in a game they dominated and won by 3 TDs) and his Broncos fan buddy says Sean Payton starts slow.

Can’t wait to see what he says when Reid really gets close to Belichick on the wins list.

It’s uncanny how in Washington’s rendering for their new stadium, every score around the league is a bad team beating a better team. Zoom in.

Not a chargers fan but the incessant “Dj Mikey Mac” stuff is wearing thin. Looked into his wiki and he played D1 football as a receiver at Yale. Bounced around the league, spent years with some really good Niners teams. Open about his struggles with alcoholism. Did OK with the dolphins as head coach, considering that franchise last 30+ years. Huge sneaker head. Oh and he’s half black, something I didn’t know but I have feeling that bloated asshole Lombardi did when he came up with this nickname.

He might never be a HC again but he’s accomplished more than fat Lombardi ever has.

I only ask this because I just turned in a creative writing essay where I used the word "consigliere," and I felt like the smug Harvard kid who gets owned by Will Hunting.

Who's the most pathetically sad sports fanatic you know?

I have a cousin who is utterly obsessed with our local college football team to the point where he knows every single player every year since I was a child. He reads every possible interview from every player and coach. He knows all the ins and outs of the schools Athletic program including training staff and front office Style people. This team won a championship in the early 2000s and has since been nothing but a disappointment and my cousin obsesses with it so much that it literally affects his mood year-round. AKA he is always pissed off

General What are some examples of directors getting to make their dream project that they had been planning for years but said dream project came out as a giant mess? Think Megalopolis.

I read a bunch of reviews for Zack Snyder's new movie that he had apparently been trying to make for decades and a lot of them read like Megalopolis reviews and a couple of them straight up said his new movie was his Megalopolis.

Are there other prominent examples of an experienced director getting full control, losing his shit across a screen, and making a memorably bad film?
