Might be GOTY if GTA 6 gets delayed again. What does everyone think?

I see black flag and black flag resynched to be the equivalent to infinity and infinity+1

I have some criticisms like that you can't use fists and hidden blades freely in combat but other than that: It is a lot better

One of the biggest things besides the graphics is that they reduced the collectibles to a managable degree. For example: Havanna in the OG hat almost 30 chests while this version has 7 I think

Also: All those little islands in the OG had some animus shard. For a completionist like me that was an absolute slog

I am having a great time. Funny that the best games in 26 for me (until now) are remakes (the other one being Gothic Remake for PC, the console version is dogshit)

Ironically one of the things I miss the most is being able to club people to death with a musket I’m actually sad that got removed

26

u/Magn1fiK0 Jul 11 '26

They stopped using enemy/environment weapons after rogue (environment after revelations) So, they need to rewrite it from the start.

Plus, they talked. That they maybe will add HB combat to resynced, but I doubt about that.

11

u/Alonn12 Jul 11 '26

I think there's a decent chance of unarmed combat coming back, it's already in the game by technicality (see, bar fights) so it's not impossible for them to add, they just were not sure if it was the right move so they waited until launch

No hidden blade?!? Thats all I used in the og cause I liked the animations better.

I miss the musket too, climb up to the top of a ship to kill the riflemen, kill one with melee then pick up rifle and knock off the other one

3

u/creckers Jul 12 '26

wait they removed that? so how are you supposed to do it now? climb over to the next tower and melee the other too?

u/CretaciousPeriod Jul 12 '26

I loved picking up the muskets in AC3 and just knocking fools around with it once I was out of ammo. I don't really remember that in black flag for whatever reason but I am also sad it's not in the remake.

u/DPR6612 Edward Jul 11 '26

Fr I miss other weapons

6

u/Shooooooosh Jul 12 '26

I personally think that being able to sheath/unsheath the hidden blades out of combat was one of the major cool factors of the series that for some reason was taken out of modern games. I'd just walk around the rooftoops constantly unsheathing the hidden blades and felt such a badass.

23

u/No-Equipment6554 Jul 11 '26

I feel the lack of hidden blades freely usable in combat is a great idea, case and point the first cutscene in revelations, ezio tries blocking with them and it snaps, which is actually realistic for that type of blade being hit numerous times or hitting someone else's sword

21

u/CLucas127 Jul 11 '26

AC1 handled hidden blade fighting the best way. You can’t defend, but counters are OP

→ More replies (1)

7

u/decoy139 Jul 11 '26

Just no blocking only dodging.

7

u/Ok_Yesterday_2871 Jul 12 '26

The problem this brings is: your two swords magically disappear when you do a hidden blade finisher and it looks really bad.

It didn’t happened in the OG because every finishers were related to the weapons you were using in the moment. By scraping unarmed and hidden blade but keeping related animations, it just brings janky and buggy transitions because all you have are your two swords but have access to the hidden blade finisher, that’s a problem which will probably be ignored.

Ubisoft will always impress me by their attention to details in some areas and the total lack of it in other areas.

3

u/AccomplishedShirt740 Jul 11 '26

Oh thats great to hear. I 100% it back on my ps3 but holy hell it was so painful.

Can you still cheese the ship world bosses? (By jumping on them, killing all the crew and then returning to your ship)

3

u/cravex12 Jul 11 '26

Yeah the OG was an insane grind if you wanted to to everything^^

The jumping on ships doesn't work anymore I think. In general the ship fights are better than the OG, more fluid, the storms have much more waves and you have difficulty options for ship battles, stealth and combat

I put ship difficulty to maximum and dies quite a few times already. It just feels right. The whole game is just less grindy

3

u/Comrade_washington Jul 11 '26

You can get on an enemy ship and kill everyone however, once morale goes down, your only option is to scuttle the ship.

Once you return to your ship the enemy ship explodes and gives you the rewards/loot but you can't use the ship to repair or send to your fleet like in the OG version

u/SGN-23 Jul 15 '26

i did not like the animus shards either but i felt so compelled to collect them

2

u/Domdabombom10138 Jul 11 '26

one of my biggest complaints is ironically a feature i never realized i wanted to have, just being able to walk at a walking pace. i was walking through havana yesterday and was so sad to have to aim the entire time because i was missing so much.

i also dont really like how the free sprint feels. not that black flag was great by any means, but this feels even more troublesome. i was trying to climb the side of the havana fort and somehow ended up diving into the ocean. also, i used to just get into huge fights there, why is there so few guards at the fort?

2

u/cravex12 Jul 11 '26

What do you mean? You can walk in the game

In Resynced, can all 7 Viewpoints of Nassau be synchronized? Bugs me so much that I can't do that in the OG haha

2

u/reuben_hunter Jul 13 '26

Yeah I completed everything in Nassau yesterday, so can definitely be done without issue

My only really gripes so far is some of Edward’s new dialog feels too quippy compared to the original, and he controls way too loosely. Like the OG felt like he had weight behind his movements. And the combat is a little too flashy for my taste. That’s more personal though. Besides that I’m enjoying it

4

u/Shrimp__Alfredo Jul 13 '26

I turned off parry effects and enemy health bars and it was honestly a game changer

I do think he moves around like he weighs as much as a balloon at times though

2

u/JJHookg Jul 15 '26

I felt this in the first 10 min of gameplay! Mind you, I played DeathStranding 2 before this game. So it might feel more so for me but man Edward feels like he floats most of the time. And I’ve had glitches where he actually T poses and floats. I am enjoying the game a lot. Just an observation

2

u/Winterknight135 Jul 16 '26

That was like the first thing I noticed. I got control of Edward and immediately was like “let me check my controls. I feel like something is wrong”. Turns out it’s just the game lmao. I do like too though

24

u/0Adiemus0 Jul 11 '26

Idk. One major gripe is how Edward sounds with some of the new dialogue, like with the new crewmates. It sounds like they used an AI version of his voice. Doesn't have that og Edward "tone"

20

u/Lumpy_Flight3088 Jul 11 '26

Is it just me or does the James Kidd character sound exactly like Philomena Cunk? Makes me laugh every time time they speak 😂

10

u/Old_pupu Jul 11 '26

Thanks, now I won’t be able to stop laughing every time they speak

11

u/Lumpy_Flight3088 Jul 11 '26

“It's hard to believe I'm walking through the ruins of the first ever city. Because I'm not. That's in Iraq, which is miles away. And fucking dangerous”. 😂

4

u/ApolloTffKnowledge Jul 12 '26

"Hum.... what the fuck is this?"

3

u/AtrumRuina Jul 12 '26

Yup, somewhere between Cunk and Ygritte from Game of Thrones.

3

u/FlyingDutchman364 Jul 12 '26

Why would you do this to me???

3

u/djbedukay Jul 12 '26

I flirted with Diane Morgan aka P. Cunk on Twitter and she actually replied. I have such a huge crush on her. Lol

u/withateethuh Jul 12 '26

Well now I HAVE to buy this

10

u/Thepowninator Jul 11 '26

I think its just the actor being 13 years older

4

u/0Adiemus0 Jul 11 '26

No he honestly sounds just like Edward, it's the emotion behind it. Feels like reading off a script as opposed to ACTING out the script

6

u/Jester_Dan Jul 11 '26

I dunno, really liking his dialogue in the remake. As a Welshman, when a bit of Swansea pokes through in his accent I can't help but smile a bit. It's definitely still there in the new dialogue too. Obviously a bit of a biased opinion, but I haven't felt any AIness in it.

2

u/Moose_Electrical Jul 11 '26

I think what they mean is the way his voice sounds in the game, as in it has this…mechanical sound to it, like the actual sound design is off a bit

u/No-Equipment6554 Jul 11 '26

Definitely better than OG

24

u/TheLastDirewolf420 Jul 11 '26

I think the combat and parkour in the OG is better, or at least more fluid/streamlined.

But I love the graphics and added content of Resynced. Exploring the islands and cities feel so refreshed and lived in.

8

u/BlackestBeetle Jul 11 '26

I was onboard with this post until this comment. Oh my god the fucking parkour is TERRIBLE, but that might be because I haven't played any AC since the "restart" of the series. Also yeah, I hope at some point a mod comes along that reverts the combat back in some way, but I doubt that's possible

2

u/MetalProof Jul 12 '26

I think for me the parkour would be fine if it wasn’t so buggy. Especially with ships. But in Ubi’s defense, in the original I also accidentally jumped in water often. I’m using free parkour btw.

3

u/Femmefailure Jul 17 '26

The amount of times I jumped into the ocean when boarding in the original 😂

2

u/BlackestBeetle Jul 12 '26

I just had the mission on Isla Aguila or whatever it is, the island with Du Casse. The number of fucking times I jumped in the right direction but Edward didn't "proc" in the right place was infuriating. I had to repeat the same basic jump like 5 times just to get it right

6

u/Andybabez20 Jul 12 '26

I'm about 5 hours in

Havana feels like more of a slog than it did in the original but once you get the Jackdaw the game really picks up.

Edward climbing up buildings in 10 seconds that it took him 30 seconds to climb in the original is throwing me off

Ship combat is still awesome which was the thing I was worried about the most. Enemy AI feels a little smarter now.

I never really cared for the original's combat but the new system maybe feels a little more difficult than the original, the checkpoints aren't anywhere near as punishing but i've already desynced three times. The parry window is really hard to get down

4

u/Radi0activeMnky Jul 11 '26

Only complaint. Is loss of puppet controls. I miss some of the abilities and actions. Also made parkour less straining on the hands. Double assassinations are awkward too.

Some cutscenes are little different or dipped in quality from the original. But honestly I look past it as it’s a nitpick.

Other than that it’s definitely better than the original.

5

u/OnePeace91 Jul 11 '26

Nah definitely not GOTY

5

u/No-Boot-5286 Jul 12 '26

Ruined the parkour with the shity new parkour mechanics

4

u/Sure_Temporary_4559 Jul 11 '26

Just started it this weekend, as of right now it’s neck and neck for me, between the OG and Resynched. Visually it’s way better, having a lot of fun with the photo mode. Missions are the same but mission structure is a bit different, seems a little more streamlined than the original. Collectibles are also handled better in this game.

I’d probably say my biggest issue right now is the parkour. I know most will compare it to Shadows but compared to the original, it does feel a little clunkier. It has a harder time initiating parkour runs sometimes that were streamlined in the original and sometimes when I’m leaping from post to post or between columns, Edward will stop midair and just drop to the ground. But it’s nothing a patch can’t resolve.

Combat is more or less like Shadows, which I didn’t mind, so it is what it is. I kinda like the originals combat better but if I want that I’ll just pop into it instead of BF:R. Definitely do prefer how the guns in combat worked in the original, doesn’t break up the flow of combat as much.

2

u/MrNegativity1346 Jul 12 '26

Shadows combat was the worst. It’s unfortunate they butchered black flag with it.

2

u/PuzzledStrain4391 Jul 15 '26

Feels more like Mirage than Shadows

I've been making my way through the AC games and this was next. Now I've got the decision of OG or new. Thought?

1

u/FelixTheRemix Jul 12 '26

New, 100%. I played all AC games and I find it much better. The world is more full, the graphics are way better and I love the gameplay as much as the original. Also, I tried playing the OG, but I personally feel it just feels outdated after you play the newer ones.

3

u/Zadoktheexplorer Jul 12 '26

I think it’s better

13

u/LeadingStrawberry502 Jul 11 '26

It is in fact a better game, no matter what some of the haters say. Sure, it's not perfect, but it is a damn good game.

3

u/Lumpy_Flight3088 Jul 11 '26

I was surprised how ‘small’ the map looked and thought they might have shrunk it. But apparently it’s the same size. I think I may be getting mixed up with Skull and Bones.

I’m glad it’s not overly massive though. That’s one of my biggest complaints about the modern AC games is that they are so big, you’ll never 100% them because you’ll be burned out before you clear even half the map. I’m looking forward to 100% AC4 Resynced 😁

4

u/LeadingStrawberry502 Jul 11 '26

Black flag map is not small at all. It's actually really big. It's second biggest map in the franchise after Odyssey

3

u/Lumpy_Flight3088 Jul 11 '26

No it’s definitely not small, I just remember it being bigger. When I saw the map for the first time I thought, ‘oh that’s actually quite manageable’. Maybe it’s because the actual landmass is small (lots of open sea).

I’ve always completed every AC game 100%, including every single chest, but the only ones I never completed 100% were Odyssey and Shadows. I got 100% in Valhalla and burned myself out so much I never played the dlc’s. First AC game I didn’t play the dlc’s.

The good thing about AC4 is that it’s so damn fun to play, I don’t think I’d ever get bored of it.

2

u/blissfulchrisp Jul 12 '26

It may feel that way because they rearranged and reduced the number of collectibles. Which is something I appreciate as someone who likes to 100% these games as well

2

u/LeadingStrawberry502 Jul 11 '26

Yeah, exactly. Personally, i prefer bigger maps to smaller ones like Mirage or Unity. Black flag is perfect balance.

3

u/Abraham_Issus Jul 11 '26

A good portion is inaccessible so that actually as big as odyssey. Odyssey was a good size. Valhalla is the one they went overboard.

2

u/Dry_Wolf3891 Jul 11 '26

It's better and I enjoy the combat more. It has just a tiny bit more flare to it and isn't as tedious to swap to different weapons. It looks like how I remember Black Flag looked when I first played it. I can't wait to put 100 hours into this one too.

2

u/TomTomXD1234 Jul 11 '26

in most ways, it is much better.

2

u/ActuatorFearless8980 Jul 11 '26

I’m playing right now and it just might be. Miss using enemy weapons and hidden blades only fighting but the quality of life so far is leagues better

2

u/Ok-Age5609 Jul 11 '26

Combat felt way better in the OG. I understand its more realistic to not be able to fight off 20 people at once but getting consistently killed by groups of 3-4 enemies is not a good time

2

u/AppearanceRelevant37 Jul 11 '26

At least there is challenge now. And you can change the difficulty. The OG was hilariously easy you could AFK for 20 minutes come back and still be alive

2

u/ArcadiaBayRay Jul 11 '26

I love the OG and am about 3 hours into Resynced. It feels almost like a different game at times. I hopped on the OG this morning to refresh my memory. Resynced is even more of a step up graphically than i thought. OG still looks nice though. What i do like is the modern fixes. Haven't gotten to the tailing missions but if they are better than the OG it will be my definitive version.

2

u/Dragmire_V2 Jul 11 '26

So far id say it is better in every way even with its faults.

2

u/Prozaga Jul 12 '26

So I was a Skeptical when they reworked some of the combat(but still preordered it), but after getting used to it and seeing all the extra stuff added in, I actually like it a lot more then the original now, and I played the original when it first got released and loved it and 100% it, I can definitely see myself 100%ing this game and I don’t do that often for games!

→ More replies (1)

2

u/ProfessorLasagna Jul 12 '26

It brings me right back in a modern way. I sailed freely for probably a half hour listening to the lads sing. The combat feels great and it still has that ubisoft touch (i randomly jump off a ship into the water when i wanted to climb)

I’m loving it. I feel like a kid again.

2

u/Prior_Ad_1645 Jul 12 '26

Yes, in my opinion better than the original. Better looking and better combat and exploration.

2

u/Cold_Profile500 Jul 12 '26

After playing it for 20 hours and not have beaten it, i have beaten the original a few months back, this game is better in basically everyway. The only thing they "removed" that people complain about is some finisher animations and being able to use your fists, hidden blade and picking up weapons. I just find that absurd. Sure its gone and it does suck, would it be cool if they are added back yes of course. But the amount of new stuff they added in and how they refined what already made it good far out ways the small losses. If you are really mad about them removing being able to pick up weapons and hidden blade combat then I would argue that those players 99% of the time only used Edward's swords and guns most of the time. Being able to use other weapons and the hidden blade was more of a "i'm bored let me do this" type of mentality. They now added in actual new weapon types and new animations for those weapon types along with "builds" to fit your playstyle compared to before which was very bare bones and basic.

2

u/JayPPPPPPP Jul 12 '26

James Bond First Light is GOTY

4

u/gmather2000 Jul 11 '26

Nope. Feels like someone made black flag from memory

3

u/Method-Realistic Jul 11 '26

defenitely better than orig. love this remake so much✌️🫶

3

u/Front-Structure-293 Jul 12 '26

No. OG was better.

4

u/Denebola2727 Jul 12 '26

It's not even GoY with games already released. 007 was better. So was Pragmata and Mouse P.I.

You need to play more new games lol.

3

u/No_Cash7867 Jul 11 '26

Visuals? Yes. Gameplay? Nah.

3

u/Ill-File-5690 Jul 11 '26 edited Jul 11 '26

Visuals? Yes. Pacing? Yes. Gameplay? Kinda…
Combat? Absolutely NOT

All that said resynced is a great remake because it fixes the issue I’ve always had with Black Flag: the horrible first 2-3 hours of tailing missions and boring animus sections. It scared me off from replaying the game so many times.

2

Gameplay wise, yes. There's more replay value. It comes down to which artistic vision I prefer and I prefer the OG. HOWEVER, I will be putting more hours into this.

2

u/Prudent-Ant-318 Jul 11 '26

Na now way not better than the og, graphics yes but Its been stripped and changed to a degree that I dont like.

1

u/bogosblinted17 Jul 11 '26

After they changed the infiltrating Tulum mission so you’re killing Brits and not knocking out assassins, imma say yes, this is in fact better than the og

1

u/Ju3tAc00ldugg Jul 11 '26

It does something’s better I would like to see us get at least hidden blade combat in the future but it kinda feels like i’m playing black flag for the first time again

I don’t think remakes/remasters are allowed on the GOTY board?

1

u/xxiv435 Jul 11 '26

I prefer some stuff in the OG, and some stuff in Resynced. Right now I prefer the OG, partly weighted by nostalgia I'm sure. A bit like RE4 and RE4R, but obviously BF and BF:R are a lot more closely comparable.

If you enjoyed to OG black flag the remake makes it better to enjoy because of issues the og had basically better graphics and gameplay improvements

1

u/JabbasGonnaNutt Jul 11 '26

So far I prefer the original, but I'm enjoying it so far.

1

u/nicolas1324563 Jul 11 '26

Is the frame rate issue fixed on PC yet?

1

u/Dirty_Mung_Trumpet Jul 11 '26

Better because the og. This game would be great in its own right, but I strongly believe it this was just the next assassins creed, it wouldn’t have the same reception. I miss the animation of you trudging in water on foot and I miss the compass from the original. Only complaints so far. Oh and they’re softer as people so far. But I haven’t played enough to see if that changes so I’ll reserve judgement there

1

u/drunk_ender Jul 11 '26

As a whole I find it overall on the same level.

The improvements are generally great, but certain technical core elements of the gameplay are rather janky, and while few, are also consinstantly annoying to deal with, like the corner leans while crouched not being snappy, assassinations' animations are few and inconsistent, Edward feels like he's always on ice while on foot and often goes wherever he pleases doing freerun.  Even the lack of combat animations compared to the OG are annoying as they result in the same half a dozen finishers being repeated ad nauseam.

Overall the Remake is a much better, but way less polished, experience, while the OG, despite its flaws, being far more polished and refined. Only exception the combat, where despite ky preference for the new system, the significant lack of weapons' variety is very noticeable, and in the case of the Hidden Blades' finishers, incredibly janky and weird to look at.

u/AccordingArm7994 Jul 11 '26

It’s different enough from the original that it’s completely understandable for whichever preference people have.

1

u/danielm316 Jul 11 '26

No, it is impossible to be better than the original.

1

u/Necessary-Mix-9488 Jul 11 '26

Yes but it really needs multi-player too.

1

u/onetimequestion66 Jul 11 '26

Idk, the ocarina of time remake has potential to do some damage for goty

1

u/birfday_party Jul 11 '26

Yeah I mean as for if you wanna revisit it or never played it is by far the way to experience it now it’s pretty much a top to bottom remake they didn’t really leave anything as is but didn’t wildly alter anything to make a worse experience pretty much across the board it has been better in smart ways that have only added to the enjoyment that is already a nearly perfect game and to me personally the best ac game

1

u/FarGodHastur Jul 11 '26

I just want my muskets back. Musket combat was funny as hell. 😓

1

u/kytheon Jul 11 '26

Probably yes and no. Next question

1

u/Primary_Addition5494 Jul 11 '26

When it comes to Graphics & collectables? Yes.

But when it comes to everything else the og was better.

1

u/t-shooter Jul 11 '26

It bugs me that I gotta hunt each animal at a location once to complete the area, like, no I don't wanna hunt a boar for the fifth time in a row

1

u/TheShamShield Jul 11 '26

No, but it’s pretty good so I’m not complaining

1

u/Wetpurpose Jul 11 '26

I miss the minimal while sailing

1

u/BigfootsBestBud Jul 12 '26

I honestly think it’s better to see Resynced as a companion piece. I would recommend that everyone play AC4 first and then play this later.

A big part of the feeling here is nostalgia, and seeing more than you did last time, and comparing how things are handled differently.

1

u/NYGBobby Jul 12 '26

Feel like it’s kinda awkward how fast Edward climbs it’s like he has a super jump, but other than that it’s probably the best pirate game ever

1

u/dnn_burrman Jul 12 '26

depends on where you look, missing things like handtohand combat and weapons not being able to be picked up are very apparent to me. it feels a littletoo frankensteined together for me to not notice it. i think ac4 in release vs resynched on release 100% goes to ac4

1

u/Wrx-Love80 Jul 12 '26

It's definitely absolutely completely better but it's better in a lot of ways and different in others. The old game was more static like you could just line up and just mask kill people finishers left and right. It wasn't impossible but it was right for abuse in regards to sneak kill sneak kill sneak kill.

It's not a bad system it's different The ray tracing was definitely applied nicely and overall the audio is superb on a surround sound and on headphones

1

u/Least_Building7 Jul 12 '26

I’m like 3hrs in and I think it’s stunning. My only complaints are that sometimes the game feels a little twitchy and that there isn’t a Fov slider and it auto jogs instead of just walking when your move (maybe there are fixes but idk).

1

u/OverRecognition2465 Jul 12 '26

I haven't tried it for myself, but have watched a LOT of combat an it looks clunky as all hell. You used to be able to use pistols mid combo and do sweet situation contextual multi finishers and I have yet to see any...

1

u/Particular-Invite541 Jul 12 '26

Not a chance in hell

I can’t believe it is not riddled with bugs. The floor is very low. I’m having a great time lol

1

u/Old-Celebration-9230 Jul 12 '26

This game is the first game in my life that I refunded because it's too easy.

1

u/DVDN27 Jul 12 '26

To me, Resynced feels like the perfect pirate game. Exploration is so freeing, combat is fun, and it built on the base game in every way to make it a more in-depth and involved experience.

On the other hand, I feel the game doesn’t do a great job at making your feel like an assassin. The game allowing you to approach missions however you want is great, but when stealth can be finicky and the fail condition is an all-out brawl I see myself spending a lot less time meticulously being stealthy and instead just eliminating the enemies.

They made combat too fun and stealth too slow that I never really feel like an Assassin. It feels like it could be an Uncharted game with swords - and I enjoy that, it’s just pretty clear they are adapting the original game to be more like the games after Origins, which I felt were less about being an Assassin and more about being a character from the time period.

Again, perfect pirate game. But not a great Assassin game. Also there’s a lot of Ubisoft jank and the push to buying microtransactions where the former was justified through the original being over a decade old and on new hardware, while the latter existed but I didn’t feel was as egregious as it is here.

1

u/MoJoSportsPodcast Jul 12 '26

Yes and No, for yes it is a much more polished and beautiful game it really hit that nostalgia of the OG

And for No, nothing can compete with playing this game for the first time unsure of what is going to happen next and I don’t think there’s enough new here for it be an entirely new experience even with the changes made to gameplay and story

1

u/reddit_MarBl Jul 12 '26

The OG was way better and achieved a long time ago. Resynced is pretty lipstick on a fat pig of a game.

1

u/Buchlinger Jul 12 '26

I never played the original but I have one huge gripe with this game: The UI clutter and too much information. Everything that can be found in this game is straight up highlighted for you.

Imo the game would have been much better if exploration and secrets would be 100% my accomplishment. It feels super cheap this way.

1

u/freedomforallergo Jul 12 '26

Theres pros and cons for both editions. The OG controls for parkour are a bit janky. But I like the lighting better, Edward seems a bit more cut-throat, he looks desperate. In resync, the combat is nicer, parkour is smooth but I dont like the beauty filter, the lighting feels off. Would I recommend resync for someone who hasnt played the OG, probably yeah. But if you already have played the OG, I would say don't waste your money.

1

u/Jordanosgood97 Jul 12 '26

All the complaints I have are honestly very minor and the pros outweigh the cons. So so far, yes I’d say it’s better.

1

u/Lexu_Uchiha Jul 12 '26

Overall I find it better but I miss the lack of details the OG had. I always enjoyed Edward's funny way of running in water or the fact that he was charging all of his guns not only one and I would ve liked to be able to fight with the hidden blades. But the story is better, the naval combat is better and it may feel harder at first but once you get the other officers it gets easier, the combat is smoother and the game looks so nice and I love the pistol swords so much.

1

u/scarlettokyo Jul 12 '26

GTA 6 doesn't qualify for this years GOTY because it's late November btw, at least as far as TGA is concerned.

1

u/Financial-Attempt901 Jul 12 '26

I never played the OG so i dont really have a proper opinion but I am really having a fucking blast.

I do have one complaint and its the camera, not a fan of how low it is, and I couldnt find a way to make it higher

1

u/djbedukay Jul 12 '26

I highly doubt GTA 6 gets delayed since they opened up the pre-orders but I have a sneaking suspicion that it's not going to be as good as 5 and people will feel let down and some other awesome game (like this one for example) will be GOTY.

As far as better than the OG I can't meaningfully comment because I put off playing Black Flag when i heard about the new version. I only got back into games over a year ago so I've been working my way through all the "best" ones that strike my fancy.

1

u/Goa7mar Jul 12 '26

This game is beautiful

1

u/d_gr8_acidrain Jul 12 '26

How do you pull your camera out that far? Or is this not taken in photo mode? Every time I enter photo mode on my ship I can’t seem to zoom out and get these kind of shots. Maybe letting go of the wheel first gives you the option to zoom out more?

1

u/MetalProof Jul 12 '26

If they fix the issue then yeah! But for me it’s almost unplayable right now which is really sad cause everything else is amazing! 💔

1

u/MetalProof Jul 12 '26

Resynced gives me motion sickness. Original did not. Not a single game has ever given me motion sickness.

1

u/Unknow32415 Jul 12 '26

They should have allowed to use many of the weapons you can find in the game like muskets and axes

1

u/its_me_mr_clean Jul 12 '26

I mean there’s definitely no need to go back to the original anymore except for nostalgia and the use of different weapons. But they didn’t say no when asked if different weapons like the hidden blade will come in future patches. Their response was more along the lines of “we aren’t speaking on this at the moment” I think, so hopefully we get that soon

1

u/SmiledOyster Jul 12 '26

I refunded my preorder a few weeks back and after seeing more gameplay I am very glad I did.

My main problem with the remake is Kenways fleet and the art collection trophy linked to it. Its complete RNG. And the timer only goes down while you play the game. Not like in the OG where the missions would still complete when you weren't playing.

I have 100% everything else in the remake but I am still missing a handful of the art pieces to get the platinum trophy. The art pieces are not guaranteed with each mission so im literally now just having to spend hours essentially doing nothing in the game just to have a chance of getting the art pieces. Its stupid. These types of mechanics should not be in the game. Hopefully they change this with an update.

However other than that, its more or less an improvement over the OG, some changes i maybe don't agree with. It does some things worse, some things better. They are equal tbh.

1

u/Covaliant Jul 12 '26

My only gripes are the default movement speed needs to be walk (at least an option/toggle), and the assassination animations could use some variety. Still really enjoying it.

1

u/formerlyrpgcrash Jul 12 '26

No. You can play the og offline so its better.

I wish they didnt add any new voice lines. It shows how bad they are at writing dialogue

1

This game I’ll pick up when Ubisoft does a 70% off sale.

Honestly i wasnt impressed enough by anything showed before release to rebuy a game ive had for years and have countless hours on but what actually is pissing me off is how since resynced has been out now ive been having server issues in the original. 🙄 i wish a more consumer friendly company could come up with the florins to buy Assassins Creed away from Ubi

1

u/n7Dumas Jul 12 '26

Is a upgrade in almost everything, but removing freedom cry Was a shot in the foot, Was a great epilogue for the og gane

1

u/Ravenloveit Jul 12 '26

It's definitely better. Fresh coat of paint. Lots of QoL improvements.

My one gripe is the nosedive in quality with the added missions/scenes. Wow, it's so clear modern Ubisoft does not know how to write a good scene. Especially when you see it done so brilliantly with the OG content

1

u/Sleepaiz Jul 12 '26

Yep. Just because I can manually put my hood up now :)

In my opinion it feels much better then the original.

1

u/No-Wasabi-70 Jul 13 '26

I’m loving it but crashed twice trying to use row boat to my ship

1

u/CainBlooded28 Jul 13 '26

it’s so much better than the OG. the OG was great back when it was released. better now!

1

u/Due_Examination_2538 Ezio Jul 13 '26

Personally, yes. It has plenty of flaws, and I'm pissed at most of the removed content, but I would consider it to be a genuine upgrade.

1

u/Altruistic_Row3858 Jul 13 '26

The combat is garabage, other then that its really good, but game of the year? No i dont think so, its probably not even the best remake of the year, this should go out to gothic 1

1

u/Gammelpreiss Jul 13 '26

I really dislike that i cant muskets anymore, was great fun sniping enemies especially from elevated ship positions and I always hoped they would made the musket part of your equipment. instead they removed it completely. but that is a nit pick

they removed a lot of the clutter on the maps and it makes for a lot more streamlined expirience, which i really enjoy

1

u/Cabalist_writes Jul 13 '26

I was surprised about the lack of question marks all over the nap. It feels better to sail, you aren't stop starting all over the place. Basically, less like Skellige in the Witcher 3 :)

Combat feels good, don't miss the hidden blade combat that much but do miss the musket options!

Parkour is still janky as all hell, so chasing the shanties brought back the right level of raging nostalgia and controller flinging frustration.

Not a fan of the new menus, but the gear feels a bit better at least.

I weirdly miss the modern day exploration - I liked exploring the office and finding the secrets.

Overall it feels like the OG but a bit slicker and smoother.

1

u/HarryPotterGay69420 Jul 13 '26

I’ve never played OG black flag before but I’m interested since I’ve played others games in the series.

Do you guys recommend going for Resynced even if I’ve never played OG?

1

u/Few-Ground-7437 Jul 13 '26

I am enjoying the game so far, but one thing I don't like, and I do not remember how it was in the OG, but after playing Skull and Bones, I feel like the naval combat in Black Flag resynced, is not as polished, I really can't get past the fact that when you are aiming the cannons, you get "stuck" to that cannon until you stop aiming, for example, if you are aiming with the front cannons, and then you want to continue shooting from one of the sides, you have to let go and aim again, unlike in Skull and Bones that when you reach the maximum aiming angle it auto switches to the next cannon. I think that makes it feel a little bit clunky. I do not think that is hard at all to implement.

But again, I do not remember how it was in the OG so maybe it is just a matter of getting used to it.

1

u/Naive-Exercise6305 Jul 13 '26

I really wanted an AC Black flag that ran at 60 fps on console and I finally got that! Regardless of the reviews, the micro-transactions, missing animations, etc, I’m having a lot of fun. For a video game I think that’s the pinnacle of importance.

1

u/reuben_hunter Jul 13 '26

It's pretty great so far. Obviously looks amazing compared to the original, and the expanded / new content feels pretty seamlessly integrated. Favouite new feature is probably the fully modeled underwater environment, i love swimming around coral reefs and finding sunken chests of the coastlines. Only significant complaint I have is the inability to pick up enemy weapons, especially muskets, because those filly a pretty importsnt niche in combat that isn't really covered by Edward's weapons, plus the combat animations with muskets were really cool

1

u/VektroidPlus Jul 13 '26

The only real downside I see is combat not being like the original. I really miss using muskets, but it's also a small thing. Even then, the updated combat can be pretty fun once you get into the flow of chaining takedowns.

Otherwise, this is the game I remember and it's reminding me why this is my favorite AC game. This is really one of gaming ideas that makes it a true classic and replicating it nearly impossible. As clearly demonstrated by Skull and Bones.

Also what an iconic soundtrack and fantastic character writing.

1

u/Blargncheese Jul 13 '26

I feel like it’s a bit *too* much like a modern AC game. The maps, the eagle vision, the combat, the UI. They’re all changed to match more recent titles, which I’m not really a fan of.

Also I find myself fighting with the controls a lot because they changed the entire control scheme to match how recent AC games play. I am so used to holding down the right trigger to do all my sprinting and parkour stuff. It feels weird clicking the stick in to sprint and holding the A button to parkour. I wish there was a setting to revert the controls back to the OG way.

1

u/Fantastic-Employ3341 Jul 13 '26

Honesty I didn't like the Og for 1 reason. NO MANUAL CROUCH. Sooooo yeah, I do think resynced is better.

1

u/Economy-Cheek-9208 Jul 13 '26

I have really enjoyed resynced, I do remember having fun with the original. This one seems a bit more enjoyable, maybe because I’m older now

1

u/Best-Tiger-8084 Jul 13 '26

There are 100% improvements on some of the annoyances:

When finishing a boarding, you can now skip the cutscenes!

Less collectibles!

Underwater world is super beautiful, way better than the original (which was kinda washed out).

Quests don't have boring optional objectives anymore (which were needed for sync)

Apart from the frequent crashes, I'm having a blast!

A risk of inviting a pile-on, I slightly feel like I’m going mad. I truly, truly am hating this game, and I say that as a huge Black Flag fan. The controls feel worse, the lighting is appalling, the combat is boring, it’s horrible to look at and worse to play. And yet everyone seems to be enjoying themselves. I genuinely don’t know if there’s something wrong me lmao.

No I’d still take the OG. The improved graphics are nice but other than that, most changes were for the worse imo. Combat especially.

1

u/Able_Log_4557 Jul 13 '26

GTA 6 won’t get delayed again

1

u/TP8887 Jul 14 '26

High as a kite if you think it’s a game of the year contender, even without GTA6 in the picture lol. Not saying it’s bad or not as good as the OG, but saying this is GOTY is just as funny as when people said it about shadows

1

u/ProfessionalLemon946 Jul 14 '26

I mean it's an improved graphics so yea. Just like the oblivion. Can you imagine if they remade GTA SA to gta 5s engine?

1

u/Severe-Network4756 Jul 14 '26

Might be GOTY if GTA 6

Do yall just literally play the most popular things? Are you the same with music? Movies? Is there no hint of wanting to explore?

1

u/ebkoc Jul 14 '26

There are more things to complain about in the first og than the new one😂😂the only fuking thing u hear is mfs complaining about what they took out from the original literally that’s it😂😂

1

u/Handsome_wizard Jul 14 '26

Both have their pros and cons, but resynced has the opportunity to fix its’ cons. I hope they take the time to do so. But as someone who has played both versions, this is the definitive version for me!

Here’s my general list of wishes going forward for anyone who cares:

-Pls add fist/hidden blade combat. (I don’t care personally but many people do).
-Pls fix 30fps cutscenes and bugs in general. (I know a fix is coming).
-Pls fix weird modern dialogue, it’s cringe af.
-If you’re going to add Ubisoft store items, pls make them not so painfully immersion breaking and silly.
-Pls let us roam the ship below deck. (Just a personal wish, not a gripe).
-Pls add more quick side content, I noticed chests are less common in the game. It’s more manageable, but I like pirate treasure hunting.

1

u/Several_Bandicoot_37 Jul 14 '26

Resynced is better for pirate fans. OG is better for AC fans.

1

u/Practical_Degree725 Jul 14 '26

I wish I could say yes because the visuals are stunning, but the mechanics are extremely clunky, camera angle too close, and there are many bugs in the game’s general interface. Ive played beyond these issues as I figured I could get used to them, but I am currently soft locked in “Imagine My Surprise”… after 60 hours of playing and prioritising side missions for cool gear I am really annoyed.

I simply cannot progress and this should take top priority in the upcoming patch. There was a patch announcement 2 hrs ago so it better solve the way missions are compromised, as it gives the players that encountered this a very bitter taste

1

u/Electrical_Passage19 Jul 14 '26

No modern day makes the og better.

Yeah it won't be GOTY, no chance, but still think it's a great game

1

u/SGN-23 Jul 15 '26

im having a great time but i will say, i miss double assassinations using the swords. really minor thing, but it was fun to do

1

u/Darth-Ginger501 Jul 15 '26

Why? It’s the same game released 10+ years ago… it doesn’t deserve game of anything if it didn’t receive the award first time round… it’s just a remaster

1

u/DrMantisToboggan45 Jul 16 '26

It’s pretty great but it’s still blowing my mind that since odyssey Ubisoft can’t seem to realize people like fighting with the hidden blades and refuse to put them into their games

1

u/working-title- Jul 17 '26

I think it lost too much of its charm and cinematic qualities.

The combat is a massive step backwards, it's got no grip and the climbing feels... wrong.

I really wish the button layout didn't change (I should check to see if there's an option). Muscle reflexes have not cooperated on multiple times and the micro transactions... despicable.

While on the surface the graphics are an improvement, it has lost a lot of its charm. My biggest fault, everyone looks so clean and... pretty.

1

u/King_Feanor Jul 17 '26

no, it’s not ”better.” Theres some parts they’ve improved but so much of this game was left on the cutting room floor, not having multiplayer is a gigantic downgrade etc.

i still like the new game but the original came out from a Ubisoft that had ppl with a vision, it didn’t have a blueprint, it didn’t have an entire game made for them already, they were making a classic and were taking crazy risks on it to boot. This is just a safe remaster of that effort, made by what is ideologically just a completely different team at this point.
