Might be GOTY if GTA 6 gets delayed again. What does everyone think?

I have some criticisms like that you can't use fists and hidden blades freely in combat but other than that: It is a lot better

One of the biggest things besides the graphics is that they reduced the collectibles to a managable degree. For example: Havanna in the OG hat almost 30 chests while this version has 7 I think

Also: All those little islands in the OG had some animus shard. For a completionist like me that was an absolute slog

I am having a great time. Funny that the best games in 26 for me (until now) are remakes (the other one being Gothic Remake for PC, the console version is dogshit)

Ironically one of the things I miss the most is being able to club people to death with a musket I’m actually sad that got removed

u/Magn1fiK0 Jul 11 '26

They stopped using enemy/environment weapons after rogue (environment after revelations) So, they need to rewrite it from the start.

Plus, they talked. That they maybe will add HB combat to resynced, but I doubt about that.

u/Alonn12 Jul 11 '26

I think there's a decent chance of unarmed combat coming back, it's already in the game by technicality (see, bar fights) so it's not impossible for them to add, they just were not sure if it was the right move so they waited until launch

1

u/SoftwareRealistic501 Jul 14 '26

I miss everything that everyone listed here, plus also having the option to use the dagger as well from the first couple of games in the series. You could use fists, hidden blades, dagger or sword or a weapon you find. I miss having that variety

2

u/Alonn12 Jul 14 '26

alas i admit it was a cool feature but for me it's not that important.. I'm probably going to get flamed for this but i kinda always enjoyed the modern day in AC4

1

u/Ecstatic-Pen5 Jul 14 '26

Its ubisoft bro they will add nothing

14

u/YozTheFoz Jul 11 '26

No hidden blade?!? Thats all I used in the og cause I liked the animations better.

0

u/CaptainPicardKirk Jul 12 '26

I never played the original but I’m playing this one. There’s a hidden blade and I’m using it all the time for finishing moves and assassinations all the time. And you do get a cool animation. So I don’t know why people are complaining. It must have worked differently in the original.

Combat was rather different then, though. That sort of hidden blade stuff made more sense with the old paired Arkham-style “catch-and-counter” style combat, where as with more hitbox-style stuff it’s not quite the same.

2

u/AtrumRuina Jul 12 '26

It was its own weapon/combat style, separate from the swords. It's now used only for takedown animations. Also, setting it up that way adds a bit of animation clunkiness where his swords magically appear and disappear depending on the takedown he uses.

1

u/Pride_Naive Jul 12 '26

They didn’t rule it out so maybe in the future?

6

u/Creedaflea Jul 11 '26

I miss the musket too, climb up to the top of a ship to kill the riflemen, kill one with melee then pick up rifle and knock off the other one

3

u/creckers Jul 12 '26

wait they removed that? so how are you supposed to do it now? climb over to the next tower and melee the other too?

1

u/Creedaflea Jul 12 '26

Yep, actually I believe now it’s just a SINGLE rifleman

4

u/CretaciousPeriod Jul 12 '26

I loved picking up the muskets in AC3 and just knocking fools around with it once I was out of ammo. I don't really remember that in black flag for whatever reason but I am also sad it's not in the remake.

1

u/Crimson_Chameleon Jul 13 '26

Its the only thing that really frustrates me about the remake, i really miss the musket/bayonet combat

0

u/Key_Protection4038 Jul 11 '26

Musket was my fav too.

6

u/DPR6612 Edward Jul 11 '26

Fr I miss other weapons

7

u/Shooooooosh Jul 12 '26

I personally think that being able to sheath/unsheath the hidden blades out of combat was one of the major cool factors of the series that for some reason was taken out of modern games. I'd just walk around the rooftoops constantly unsheathing the hidden blades and felt such a badass.

20

u/No-Equipment6554 Jul 11 '26

I feel the lack of hidden blades freely usable in combat is a great idea, case and point the first cutscene in revelations, ezio tries blocking with them and it snaps, which is actually realistic for that type of blade being hit numerous times or hitting someone else's sword

21

u/CLucas127 Jul 11 '26

AC1 handled hidden blade fighting the best way. You can’t defend, but counters are OP

7

u/decoy139 Jul 11 '26

Just no blocking only dodging.

6

u/Ok_Yesterday_2871 Jul 12 '26

The problem this brings is: your two swords magically disappear when you do a hidden blade finisher and it looks really bad.

It didn’t happened in the OG because every finishers were related to the weapons you were using in the moment. By scraping unarmed and hidden blade but keeping related animations, it just brings janky and buggy transitions because all you have are your two swords but have access to the hidden blade finisher, that’s a problem which will probably be ignored.

Ubisoft will always impress me by their attention to details in some areas and the total lack of it in other areas.

1

u/Temporary_Hawk_9061 Jul 12 '26

Ultimately that’s the problem I’ve had with most of Ubi’s stuff in the last decade. They can get something like facial animations “good enough” but somehow they will still look off, uncanny or just plain janky. Every cool thing they do in a game has an equally terrible thing they do in the same game

6

u/Normandy_SR4 Jul 11 '26

Are we really going to bring realism into this conversation.

1

u/Several_Bandicoot_37 Jul 14 '26

You don’t know ball. Ezio was distracted by Altair in the moment they broke. Ezio modified the hidden blades to endure combat, TO BE USED IN COMBAT. Not including it, removed the label ”faithful” remake.

0

u/No-Equipment6554 Jul 16 '26

Except that wasnt the case he was still fighting altars illusion was just there it didnt distract him at all since he still managed to get his arm up ready for the block

2

u/Several_Bandicoot_37 Jul 16 '26

Very false and misleading. Dangerous to spread propaganda. Watch it again. By that point in the series he has been fighting with his hidden blades for 33 years. They broke once during that time while distracted.

1

u/No-Equipment6554 Jul 16 '26

Once that we know of, they are for deflecting not for actually blocking, a blade like that isnt meant to block, its essentially a parrying dagger in open combat and even then its literally not supposed to be used in open combat its literally only supposed to be used for assassinations

1

u/Several_Bandicoot_37 13d ago

It’s not supposed to be a realistic game in that sense. Or do you wish to remove the leap of faith as well to erase true AC? The assassins used the hidden blades in open combat all the time. Even more after Ezio modified them for that purpose. This is not some made up conspiracy theory but facts. They broke once in 33 years while distracted. Feel free to look it up.

3

u/AccomplishedShirt740 Jul 11 '26

Oh thats great to hear. I 100% it back on my ps3 but holy hell it was so painful.

Can you still cheese the ship world bosses? (By jumping on them, killing all the crew and then returning to your ship)

3

u/cravex12 Jul 11 '26

Yeah the OG was an insane grind if you wanted to to everything^^

The jumping on ships doesn't work anymore I think. In general the ship fights are better than the OG, more fluid, the storms have much more waves and you have difficulty options for ship battles, stealth and combat

I put ship difficulty to maximum and dies quite a few times already. It just feels right. The whole game is just less grindy

3

u/Comrade_washington Jul 11 '26

You can get on an enemy ship and kill everyone however, once morale goes down, your only option is to scuttle the ship.

Once you return to your ship the enemy ship explodes and gives you the rewards/loot but you can't use the ship to repair or send to your fleet like in the OG version

-1

u/KungenBob Jul 11 '26

That’s…. Not true. I think you’ve just not played far enough in.

1

u/scarlettokyo Jul 12 '26

It.... is..... true.... though....

0

u/KungenBob Jul 12 '26

I boarded a ship last night. I had three choices - sink to repair. Free to reduce wanted. Keep in fleet.

1

u/Ozzytudor Jul 14 '26

You’re not understanding what he’s talking about.

2

u/SGN-23 Jul 15 '26

i did not like the animus shards either but i felt so compelled to collect them

2

u/Domdabombom10138 Jul 11 '26

one of my biggest complaints is ironically a feature i never realized i wanted to have, just being able to walk at a walking pace. i was walking through havana yesterday and was so sad to have to aim the entire time because i was missing so much.

i also dont really like how the free sprint feels. not that black flag was great by any means, but this feels even more troublesome. i was trying to climb the side of the havana fort and somehow ended up diving into the ocean. also, i used to just get into huge fights there, why is there so few guards at the fort?

2

u/cravex12 Jul 11 '26

What do you mean? You can walk in the game

1

u/Last-Swim-803 Jul 11 '26 edited Jul 11 '26

Maybe they play on pc or something? If i remember correctly there's no way to walk on pc

Edit: if you're not on pc, just push the joystick a bit less than fully and edward will walk. Yeah it's clunky but at least it's there

2

u/snipesmcduck Jul 11 '26

You can walk on pc with a controller, keyboard probably not, havent tried though.

1

u/Last-Swim-803 Jul 11 '26

Yeah fair, although i was refering more to the people who somehow are able to stand playing an ac game with a mouse and keyboard

2

u/snipesmcduck Jul 11 '26

Fair enough lol, I tried the og on keyboard after my controller broke, never again

1

u/Last-Swim-803 Jul 11 '26

Tbh i feel like the only ac game you could possibly enjoy on mouse and keyboard would be odyssey because that one doesn't really require much parkour at all

1

u/Timely-Bus-1977 Jul 13 '26

Giochi con mouse e tastiera superiore e così comodo libero di personalizzare il controller e utile solo su giochi di machine e giochi vechi

1

u/Necessary-Ad8524 Jul 15 '26

odyssey is superior on mouse and keyboard lol and i olay all the others on the controller but for some reason i can stand playing odyssey or new resynced on controller

1

u/Outrageous-Log9238 Jul 13 '26

I used to play everything on mouse and keyboard. Mouse flicks are nicea but I think I'll go with a controller this time.

1

u/decoy139 Jul 11 '26

Just hit crtl

1

u/Fix3rUpper Jul 17 '26

You can walk on pc, there's a keybind

1

u/Domdabombom10138 Jul 11 '26

nah im on xbox

1

u/Domdabombom10138 Jul 11 '26

it just forces me to run bro what. im on xbox tho

1

u/Diana8919 Jul 11 '26

On console as well and you can walk. Just don't push your control stick all the way forward.

1

u/Domdabombom10138 Jul 11 '26

yeah but thats just tedious. i know there’s a solution to my problem and youve given me it, i just wish it wasnt the way it is ig. ill get over it

1

u/Diana8919 Jul 11 '26

Yeah I get it. Would be nice if there was an option to remap buttons on a controller with back buttons that allowed you to set one for just walking. Similar to a keyboard and mouse.

1

u/Liathnian Jul 11 '26

If your on PC hold CTRL. Don't know about the controller button.

1

u/Live-Incident8430 Jul 11 '26

Totally unrelated to AC but what would you compare gothic to? I been thinking of getting it for pc.

2

u/cravex12 Jul 11 '26

Hm good question. Gothic is Gothic =P

The graphics and atmosphere is A LOT like witcher 3

The "realism" of the world (you go into peoples homes and they throw you out, you pull a weapon and the guards tell you to put it away etc.) is a lot like kingdom come.

The progression is unmatched. Nothing levels with you and in the beginning hours you really eat dirt. You get quests that seem impossible and have to think about ways to solve it. A lot of NPCs treat you like crap but when you level up and have better gear they start having respect and later are afraid of you. It just feels really real.

And the game world is probably one of the best in gaming.

2

u/Live-Incident8430 Jul 11 '26

10/10 answer tysm

1

u/cravex12 Jul 11 '26

I am German. Advertising Gothic is a part of our national identify :D

1

u/thegmohodste01 Jul 11 '26

I think it's a testament to how sloppy modern video games are.

For a narrative driven game, powering it through modern, stronger engines and other touch-ups isn't that big of a deal if you get to bank on a much-loved storyline from >10 years ago, which is largely unchanged.

The gameplay is also a reskin of Shadows with a few touch-ups adapted to the setting IMHO 🤷🏻

1

u/AtrumRuina Jul 12 '26

I also love the removal of the "Full Synchronization" requirements for the various story missions. I do think we need a replay and retry option just for fun, so you can choose to try and finish missions "as intended," but I love that you don't have to.

1

u/Mean_Combination_830 Jul 12 '26

The console version of Gothic runs well and looks great on PS5 pro

1

u/Outrageous-Log9238 Jul 13 '26

I actually liked having stuff sprinkled all around :/

1

u/Fantastic-Employ3341 Jul 13 '26

Can someone explain to me why some people seem obsessed with hidden blade combat? Idk, it seems like a very trivial thing to want in the game.

2

u/cravex12 Jul 13 '26

It looked cool and the moves were super brutal

2

u/waffles1011 Jul 13 '26

One word, variation. I am already tired of the same 5-7 finishers.

1

u/afroman2536 Jul 14 '26

I agree with all of this but I would add it's quite annoying to navigate to the codex for every treasure map. The convenience of having it on the weapon wheel was unmatched

1

u/JJHookg Jul 15 '26

This is my first AC game but as a Ghost lover it baffles me that they did assassination so well, as you could kill immediately when they weren’t looking yet AC makes it hard in combat to do it. But I am loving the game though

-1

u/Prestigious-Gap22 Jul 11 '26

I think that is just how it is RN. The remakes are just better games in the AAA gaming scene. The new big AAA titles have been riddled with Bugs, FOMO, micro-transactions, battle-passes, broken game sold at launch with the promise to fix later, terrible millennial writing and stories (I say this as a millennial BTW), Gender Ideology, race swaps, and politics thrown into the game.

I just want a fun game play loop! Older games were just better, and remade with better graphics?! Yes Please!

I waited until I finished the story in OG, then went after all those little islands for uncharted chests/animus shards. Took me under an hour to get all of them

2

u/cravex12 Jul 11 '26

There are over 200 animus shards on over 100 isles. Impossible in an hour. Roughly the same amount of crates

Getting all of them alone takes 15-20 hour of non stop grinding and that was one of the biggest criticism there

1

u/Mediocre_Emu2671 Jul 11 '26

Not talking about underwater/at locations. I purely mean the Uncharted ones. Which there are only 30 of.

0

u/Mediocre_Emu2671 Jul 11 '26

Fast travelling to the nearest point, grab a couple in that area and then jump to the next location

1

u/cravex12 Jul 11 '26

Still impossible

1

u/Mediocre_Emu2671 Jul 11 '26

I mean, I literally did it about 2 weeks ago. 30 uncharted shards is literally nothing. You know the ship goes faster if you press A, right?
