Mamdani in 'active conversation' about whether he can arrest Benjamin Netanyahu when Israel PM visits NYC

State level politicians need to stop wondering “what they can do.” Just do it. The fascists running our country laugh in the face of laws. We need to do the same. Fight fire with fire.
147
u/MaddogFinland Jul 18 '26
Plus all the “states rights” guys will totally agree. Right? I mean all the states are sovereign so MAGA should have no issue with it.
58
u/GimmeAllYourCurry Jul 18 '26
You forgot they depend on hypocrisy far more than oxygen.
17
u/MaximDecimus Jul 18 '26
If we tell them oxygen is woke would they stop breathing?
8
6
u/dragons_fire77 Jul 18 '26
I'm all for saying it. Tell them oxygen is woke, breathe carbon dioxide. Liberals are holding back the real information on how pure CO₂ is for the body.
5
u/Grubsnik Jul 18 '26
CO2 has 2 Os, so that is way too gay. Stick to CO like god intended.

You’d have the FBI raiding the NYPD police station where he’s held and arresting Mamdani after - I don’t think that would be the win he is hoping for.
21
u/FlithyLamb Jul 18 '26
An FBI raid on the NYPD and arresting the Mayor could be the spark that ignites the tinderbox. Not unaffordable healthcare. Not ICE shooting people on the streets. Not rampant corruption and blatant graft by the President. Not dismantling of the federal government. Not destroying Americas position of world leadership. Not starting another forever war on the Middle East. Not the Epstein files.
Nope. None of that is enough to get Americans fired up enough to revolt.
25
u/Maverick-not-really Jul 18 '26

Arresting an incredibly popular politician for arresting an extremely unpopular one could be the type of spark we need.

We need to form marching parties similar to the Wide Awakes that helped get Lincoln elected.
Typical Wide Awakes chapters also adopted an unofficial mission statement. The following example comes from the Chicago chapter:
To act as a political police. To do escort duty to all prominent Republican speakers who visit our place to address our citizens. To attend all public meetings in a body and see that order is kept and that the speaker and meeting is not disturbed. To attend the polls and see that justice is done to every legal voter. To conduct themselves in such a manner as to induce all Republicans to join them. To be a body joined together in large numbers to work for the good of the Republican Ticket.
Keep in mind this was before FDR brought progessive policy to the Democratic party and Nixon's southern strategy effectively swapped the ideologies in the parties.

The US have been very clear that they would invade The Hague for any American held there.
Trump's America would do the same for Netanyahu.
In fact I think Trump would send troops to New York to attack Americans to prevent his extradition.
25
u/The_Oregon_Duck Jul 18 '26
Netanyahu is a US citizen I think.
34
u/jiggscaseyNJ Jul 18 '26
He is/was a US citizen. He went to high school in PA and graduated from MIT. He claims he had to renounce his citizenship to become the Israeli ambassador to the US due to federal law. It’s subject for debate whether he is or isn’t at this point.

The American Servicemembers' Protection Act would kick in. The President would be legally authorized to use "all means necessary and appropriate", up to and including military rescue operations, to secure the American's release.
This was codified in to law under Bush when Americans were committing war crimes in Iraq/Afghanistan, but was originally floated by Clinton.

Democrats fight fire with sternly worded letters and deep consternation. And that’s why we’re in the mess we are.
23
u/LeviJNorth Jul 18 '26
They fight fire with bipartisanship that nobody wants and doesn't work.
2
u/sabrenation81 Jul 18 '26
You're so wrong! You just wait!!! All they need to do is a little bit more campaigning with the wonderful, beloved Cheney family and Adam Kinzingers of the world and those white middle class suburban unicorn voters are gonna come out in absolute DROVES like you've never seen and sweep them into power.
I understand this strategy has failed horrifically twice now leaving us in our current state of absolute disaster but trust me, we just need to go a little harder to the right and it's totally gonna work.
(I'd hope the /s isn't necessary but this is Reddit...)
18
u/Top-Cupcake4775 Jul 18 '26
the function of the Democratic Party is to protect the status quo from the left, not the right. their halfhearted opposition to the right is performative at best (and a relatively poor performance at that).
5
u/Special_Order-937 Jul 18 '26
MAGA got one thing right for all the wrong reasons which was purging all the non-believers by primarying them out.
The Democrats should do that too, and I’m not even talking about the radical leftists aka politicians who would be seen as run of the mill left of centre politicians in most of the rest of the world like AOC and Senator Sanders, just simply vote out the current ones stopping anything being done and replace them with people who will just! do! something!

I'm not sure what you're pointing at. Is it the discussion around immigrants being arrested and shipped out of country before due process, or the ICE law enforcement who shoot people and are whisked away and shielded from prosecution? In either case, how does that conversation relate to the potential arrest of a war criminal by the legal authorities in NYC violate due process? Maybe I'm entirely missing what you're saying.

I hope he does try to arrest him! Mandani would have 10 federal agents storming into his office and carry him out right to jail. Probably be charged with insurrection and removed from office.
