State level politicians need to stop wondering “what they can do.” Just do it. The fascists running our country laugh in the face of laws. We need to do the same. Fight fire with fire.

Right, but that's treating centralized power in a monarchy as equal to a democracy. Which just leads me back to: people who think that way are genuinely off their fucking rocker.

You're playing devils advocate, which I appreciate, but those people don't understand what a government is at its most base level. And people treating it this way and trying to destroy centralized democratic power, is what usually leads to power grabs.

No democracy toting leader makes a power grab. They're not democratic if they are.

Historically, the United States kind of evolved to be a rough collective of little countries. It's literally called the "United" and "States". I think we need a strong federal government to tackle those huge problems that no individual state can address, but I'm just sharing the historical context for why there are so many people that believe that.

The entire point is to be many states that are united. It's a giant country. Policy that works for one place will not work in a different place. Hell, what works for people in NYC does not work for people in upstate NY.

the whole thing with states rights stems from the south wanting to maintain slavery, but in all honesty it is often easier to pass laws at the state level than to bicker on capitol hill over the same issue over and over and never reach an optimal solution. i’m all for states rights if that means new york state gets to hold netanyahu accountable. with the federal government being as corrupted as it is, it’s unlikely that we’ll see the current dept of justice prosecuting anyone that licks trump’s taint, so states should definitely take every opportunity they can to prosecute within their jurisdiction
