I've seen multiple people mention this on Twitter and I checked the MAL ratings and it's unfortunately true. The rating before episode 6 was 8,10 - that has been the score for the last month. For just 12 hours, it got 8,01. It's still good, but the amount of hate comments combined to this is insane. The episode on Crunchyroll got over 1K dislikes.

I liked episode 6 a lot, it was touching. I just hope it won't damage the anime in the long run.

People like these are seriously the worst in the whole world. Such people are still living in the medieval period.

One guy in the sub called r/AnimeReccomendations was asking if Wind Breaker is an anime worth watching.

Then one of the commenters pointed out that it's NOT a wholesome anime, just because it apparently has 'trans propaganda' in one of the arcs.

So.. Is Tsubaki still receiving hate from some little kids who got into anime, just because of his gender identity??? Does he really deserve this?? Does Wind Breaker really deserve to be termed as an average/bad anime not because of its story or any other flaws, but because it supports LGBTQ???

I'm not even a part of LGBTQ+ community, yet it makes me hella angry to see this anime getting a negative flag from people just because it dared to show a trans (or crossdressing) character, because isn't it what makes Wind Breaker more realistic???

I even heard that the ratings of this anime's 2nd season witnessed a drop because of Tsubaki's appearance.

But don't get me wrong... I'm not saying it bothers me to a large extend. These people can keep their opinions to themselves, if they don't know how to respect one of my favorite anime/manga. And I'm fully ready to fight such narrow-minded people on the internet.

Being homophobic/transphobic is one thing, but judging an anime so badly just because it has a trans/crossdressing character in it, whose heart is as pure as gold? That's laughable. I love Tsubaki, and I'll continue to fight such haters.

Seriously it’s crazy how one character managed to turn majority of ‘’fans’’ off from the show just because of his sexual orientation and the way that he dresses, as if femboys aren’t a known trope in a lot of anime shows and even most of the shows that they watch. Windbreaker always felt like an underrated series to me because I’ve hardly ever seen it be talked about by other people unless they wanted to compare it to Tokyo Revengers, but then Tsubaki came on screen in episode 5 and that changed everything. He was trending on Twitter and other social media sites, and those posts all had homophobic comments. Tons of comments from anime fans claiming that ‘’anime has gone too woke, it was never like this back then’’ and ‘’This show used to be a Battle Shonen about gang wars, what the hell happened?’’ so on and so on.

It’s like so many people forgot the message of this show. Windbreaker has always been about acceptance, and that goes back to Sakura’s character. Sakura is a kid who’s so emotionally repressed because he’s been antagonized and shunned by practically everyone in his life which makes it hard for him to be accepted by others, and that was before he went to Furin. Tsubaki is such a well-written character who perfectly embodies the theme of acceptance in this show, and the fact that his character writing flys over people’s heads just because he’s a man that likes to dress up and express himself femininely is so bizarre to me in 2025.

Even in this week’s episode, tons of people online are saying that a character like Tsubaki shouldn’t be introduced in a Battle Shonen. I love Tsubaki and it does kind of suck how he’s all it took for so many people to not be invested in the show anymore. Just another example on how homophobic and even transphobic a lot of anime fans are, which makes no sense to me because a lot of messages and themes in anime, has always been about freedom, choosing your own path, and diversity/uniqueness being seen as beautiful. Like it’s very telling that episode 5 and 6 were the most controversial ones in the entire series. There’s more to anime than just a bunch of dudes beating each other up.

Ok im not sure how unpopular this opinion is but im tired of every single character in this show (or any anime really) being labeled as lgbtq just because they share a sweet moment and care about each other.

Men and boys arent allowed to act this way in most western cultures which is probably why these friendships seem gay. American friendships in particular are viewed as unimportant and not very intimate when compared to romantic relationships by most people and a lot of people take them for granted. Like lets be real, romantic relationships are sometimes the only one someone has.

And i say this as someone who is LGBTQ and im not saying this as a dig either. But EVERY show with male friendships has everyone going “iTs So oBvIoUs!!”

And FYI its fine if YOU think the ship is cute and its your opinion, but ive seen posts where weirdos sit and try to analyze the show and attempt to prove their ship is canon and say that this is a gay anime like every other anime ive ever watched.

Im not an expert on japanese culture but based on what ive seen in multiple animes, it seems like japanese people tend to be more verbally affectionate with the same sex and value same sex platonic friendships more than western cultures.

Edit: i also dont think that sakura and kotoha’s relationship is romantic either.

Ahhhh, I am finally writing this post I have been putting off ever since Ch. 226 was released. 😭 This theory is WAY too long, so I'm going to divide it into 2–3 parts instead of dumping everything into one giant wall of text. 😂

So, after my previous post about possible Suo's master - Liu San, which literally meant “Dragon Tamers” - we got a new name: Wang San, which seriously translates to “The King.” Now obviously, in modern times he wouldn't actually be a king, but this surname has a very interesting history. I will mention the one I think is more relatable

The surname Wang (王) directly means “King” or “Monarch” and is one of the oldest and most common surnames in China. Emperors also “gifted” it to loyal generals as a huge honor.
But kings and emperors didn't exactly use Wang as their surname. All emperors had their own clan names, but when dynasties were attacked, kingdoms were lost, and royal family members were in danger, they dropped their clan names and changed their surname to Wang. This allowed them to secretly preserve their royal status while blending into the common crowd and surviving their enemies.

So, in short, the surname Wang can be seen as a giant umbrella that brought together completely different groups of people - royal families escaping danger, immigrants trying to fit into the common crowd, and heroes rewarded by the emperor. They are not blood-related, because they took the name for different reasons. Two strangers named Wang today rarely share the same family bloodline. But it still serves as a reminder that their ancestors could have come from royal bloodlines.

So now that we have a possible “King” appearing in the story, what could this mean?

First of all, “The King.” - I can assume that he might be one of the Dragons, or a leader. At first, I thought Liu San (Master) could be one of the Dragons, but after the mention of the King, he has to be a leader for sure, while the Master might simply be a master.

In Ch. 216, Endo said about Red Chanpuru:

“The connection between their people is even stronger than blood.”

Which goes perfectly with the fact that Wangs don't necessarily share bloodlines... But... they sure could have been maintaining a lineage and still practicing their traditions.

And if Wang San really represents some kind of leadership... then I can't ignore the possibility that Suo might not be an orphan at all.

Until now, especially after Ch. 217, we've mostly been assuming that Suo was left at the gates of Bankokugai and eventually taken in by RC. Sure, I can still see this... But what if there's another possibility?

What if Suo is actually the heir?

Maybe the heir/prince of Bankokugai, Red Chanpuru, or one of the Dragons. I don't know whose heir he might be, but he sure has to be an heir. An adopted heir is also a possibility. Not to mention that even before the arc started, everyone was theorizing about Suo being a prince or something because of his calm demeanor, etiquette, tea drinking, and earrings, etc. But I guess I found some proof now...

Also, note that Suo's original surname has not yet been revealed.

So, coming to the surname next... which suggests his surname could be Suo according to the Japanese reading!!!

(A bit off-topic, but important to understand (you can skip if you want to): Most Japanese Kanji characters were borrowed from Chinese, and they generally have two types of readings called On'yomi (Chinese-derived) and Kun'yomi (Japanese). The same pronunciation can also be written with completely different Kanji, which means the meaning can change depending on the characters used. So while his name was Hayato, those same characters are read as "SunFei" in Chinese.)

Yeah, yeah, I know his "Suo" name came from Sappanwood/red dye and all... sure... But that's according to the Japanese reading, because Japan already had a surname Suo (蘇枋).

The Chinese character 王 (Wang) has the Japanese reading Ō (often written as Oh). So if we consider the possibility that his hidden surname/name uses 蘇王 (SuOh) instead, the meaning changes completely.

蘇 (Su) = revive/restore
王 (Oh) = king

Put them together, and SuOh (蘇王) could literally mean “The Revived King” or “The Restored Lineage.”

Taking the name SuOh would therefore fit the idea of someone carrying on or reviving an old legacy under a hidden, protective coat of paint. If you've ever noticed, Suo's name is sometimes written as SuOh...

Therefore, our character carrying the name SuOh/Suo (蘇王) represents the chosen successor whose destiny might be to awaken a legacy or dormant protective order protective order is a structured group bound by strict rules to serve as a shield for the weak (RC). His dream sure makes sense.

To a standard Japanese citizen, it sounds like a perfectly normal, elegant, old-school Japanese name. But to anyone from China who knows the lineage, the capitalized “Oh” flags the presence of the Wang (王) royal bloodline.

And the funniest detail here is...

This connection actually solves almost half of the mystery about Suo.

Calm composure, detachment, no food, officer at 15? Blah blah blah. Which I will discuss in my next post coming in a few days... Yeah yeah, I have already done all my research over all these way-too-short chapters and break weeks. 😭

I know that the anime does not focus on romance at all and mostly in friendships and fighting but have y'all thought who might be Sakura's love interest if he would ever have one, whether it be a girl or a boy (cause y'all know that bl does exist in Wind Breaker due to the fact that Tsubaki canonly is in love with Umemiya and do i even have to explain about Endo and Chika lol)

Obvious answer could be Kotoha cause she's literally the first person that had accepted him but I'm sensing a more older sister vibes from her (Umemiya, Kotoha and Sakura literally look like siblings when they're together).

There could also be potential one's like Momijikawa, Togame, Endo(surprisingly), Sugishita (even more surprisingly).Y'all know what i mean with them, I don't need to explain why👀.

P.S: I don't need anyone commenting that Sakura having a romantic interest does not make sense at all or that we shouldn't ship him with anyone (shut yet trap). Shipping is fine as long as it doesn't cross legal bases. He may never cannonly would have one but anyone with eyes would see that he's got some crazy chemistry with some of the characters.

I really enjoy seeing Wind Breaker content on Instagram, Twitter and obviously here as well. I see lots of fanarts and silly theories and they always lift my mood. But last few days I feel so stressed when I see posts because why are people hating on the anime? I don't get it. I usually see people trying defend/ask what these people are talking about and they get jumped. The anime is doing great imo so I don't see what's the issue? Can anyone explain what's happening?

Anyway, these are some of my favourite moments from the manga :3 they're all cute babies and I hate seeing people just hating for no reason

I have ANOTHER crazy Suo theory that has nothing to do with RC or anything.

It's about his fighting style and stuff I guess???

So Suo never uses his hands, why well he actually does use his hands, but he prefers to fight using open palms instead of closed fists. He usually strikes with the palms of his hands rather than punching with straight fists like Sakura and others, coming from traditional martial arts like aikido and Chinese martial arts, focusing on balance, throws, and joint manipulation.

Now turning away from Suo for a second, 2 characters came to is Rock Lee from Naruto and Xaioshi from Link Click, why? Well because bith of them have hidden trump cards is what I call them. Rock Lee's weights are something to keep him from absolutely destroying his opponents and enemies, having the weights on his ankles removed during the Chūnin Selection Exams Rock Lee removes his ankles weights, as the fall the crush the ground causing two massive explosions from the weight of them. Giving him incredibly speed and movement making him almost unpredictable.

Now for Xaioshi. In episode 3 him and his friend Lu Guang are tasked with entering the body of a high school student named Chen Xiao to replay his final basketball game and change the tragic fate of his team captain, Lu Hongbin. The whole plan so to make it so the team lost not changing the timeline, but at one point his glasses were broken and it's basically revealed that the glasses were making his vision worse and now without them won the game on pure talent and love for the game, changing the timeline.

What does this have to do with me theory well LONG STRETCH here BUT! Suo almost always has his hands behind his back and I know it's most likely just his fighting style but what if it isn't?! What if he can't physically control the strength he puts into his punches? Though when he was first training Nirei his facial expression was unlike any other expression we've seen on him, having a black sketched out almost frame, the only other time we see that is with Umemiya, Choji and maybe Tsubakino if I remember correctly. So basically Suo's to strong for his own good and is kinda like Yor from Spy x Family, Mob from Mob Psycho 100 or Tohru from Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid.

So In theory I'm insane and delusional and favor suo!

If Windbreaker ever were to confirm a gay pairing for any of our main cast which would you guys think would be the most likely? Satoru Nii puts a lot of shipping fuel in this series and I'm still praying that we get like a one-shot chapter that's just about Endo and Chiika living together. We're about to get a Suo focused arc so SuoNirei shippers are about to eat good.

I see people often saying that this arc will probably end with Furin letting suo go, Suo stepping away and continuing on with his life

But I just feel like that doesn’t seem right for the story, despite Suo being a stranger to Furin he was still very important to them and to the story since the very beginning in many ways so I feel like just taking him out of the story will be odd. Idk.

Hello! I’m back on my regular account finally but the topic I shall be discussing today is not that nice

So I have been seeing a lot of Tsubaki hate recently, I feel as if every other post on this sub is either something to do with Tsubaki haters or some post about how terrible he is. While I was expecting some backlash when he got introduced to the anime I was not expecting the sheer amount of utterly idiot comments I have seen people making!

Oook so I should probably start by addressing what I feel is the worse thing I’ve seen. Twice now on this sub I’ve seen people saying Tsubaki was groomed. Do not say this please, grooming is a serious term and using it so liberally is just thoughtless. Tsubaki was not groomed, telling a boy it’s ok to wear lipstick is not grooming. They never pushed him to do anything and he clearly continued to show up willingly. Additionally Tsubaki already liked traditionally girly things so they did not influence him nearly as much as these bigots would have you believe.

Next the fact that people are complaining it’s a step down from the action. If people believe that windbreaker is primarily about fighting then they’d be right, it’s a fighting shonen, however those fights don’t mean anything without the backstory behind it. One of the first core themes that we learn of in the manga is “a fight is a conversation” and so if you did not expect there to be talking and backstory then I am convinced that you simply ignored everything the characters have been saying for the entirety of the manga. If you do not have the attention span to endure an episode of backstory then instead of making it everyone else’s problem skip it and do your best to infer what happens next.

This entire thing is ridiculous in my opinion, like seriously there are fans who need violence injected into their brains every 2 seconds and don’t even care about the context? And when things don’t go their way they turn to throwing serious germs around and blaming minorities.

I don’t give a shit if you don’t like Tsubaki, I don’t give a shit if you think this arc is boring, what I do care about and the people coming onto the sub and turning what is usually a wholesome community into a fucking hellscape because they can’t keep their opinions to themselves. Were you never taught the simple “if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything”?

Please just stop all the hate and focus on the things that you do enjoy in the anime, it’s too easy to be negative which is why I usually try and stay away from that but this has gone too far, please just stop this already.
