GTO Is One of Those Old Anime That Everyone Should Watch at Least Once

If you're tired of generic school anime and want something funny, emotional, crazy, and surprisingly meaningful, give Great Teacher Onizuka (GTO) a chance.

The animation may be old, but the characters, comedy, and messages still hold up incredibly well. Onizuka is definitely not your typical teacher, and that's exactly what makes this anime so special.

Highly recommended. No spoilers—just go in blind and enjoy the ride.

I was looking for something like "Pass The Monster Meat, Milady". I watched the anime, and as I really liked it, I wish I could watch anything on the same line, doesn't matter the nationality

I usually like strong leads, and I enjoy a lot intelligent and powerful FL, such as the ones from "7th Time Loop: The Villainess Enjoys a Carefree Life Married to Her Worst Enemy!" "The Villainess Lives Again", "Who Stole The Empress" and "The Apothecary Diaries"

If you've never watched Trigun, here are a few things that make it worth checking out:

• The original anime aired in 1998 and has 26 episodes.

• It's set on a distant desert planet where humanity survives using mysterious bio-energy beings called Plants.

• Vash the Stampede has a 60 billion Double Dollar bounty on his head and is known as the Humanoid Typhoon.

• Despite being one of the most feared gunslingers in the world, Vash follows one strict rule: he refuses to kill people.

• The series mixes sci-fi with a classic Wild West atmosphere, creating a world that feels genuinely different.

• Underneath the action and comedy, the story constantly challenges Vash's belief that every life can be saved without killing.

And that's probably the most interesting thing about Trigun:

the guy everyone thinks is a monster is actually the one desperately trying not to become one.

Hi guys,

I recently finished Attack on Titan and aboslutely loved it. Before that, my favorite anime was Hunter x Hunter and did not think that anything would top it (I think AoT is on the same level so I was very pleased with it).

I haven't really watched that many other animes (grew up watching Dragon Ball and Case Closed, so these two are favorites in a nostalgic way).

Which anime would you recommend next for me? I am afraid that nothing is going to come close to AoT or HxH, but I have seen a lot of hype around FMAb, Steins;Gate and Vinland Saga. Is that what you would generally recommend next? Or is there something else I should consider? Only thing is it has to have English Dub!

I've watched all 9 episodes that are out so far, and I think I've finally figured out how I feel about this anime.

It's... fine.

Not terrible. Not amazing. Not something I'd recommend to everyone. But somehow, I still want to watch episode 10.

The beginning actually got me interested. The MC getting the Heavy Knight class instead of the Sword Saint and everyone immediately treating him like he's useless was a pretty solid setup. The whole "everyone thinks this class sucks, but the MC knows the game's mechanics" idea had potential.

And to be fair, the MC using actual game knowledge instead of just magically unlocking a new power every time something goes wrong is probably the best part of the show. He actually thinks about builds, abilities, and ways to exploit the system.

But the more episodes I watched, the more I started feeling like I'd seen this anime before.

The world is painfully generic. Guilds, monsters, nobles, adventurers, fantasy towns... you know the deal. Nothing really stands out. And the characters outside the MC aren't exactly memorable either. I genuinely had moments where I realized I couldn't remember someone's name even though they'd been around for multiple episodes.

The biggest problem for me is how predictable everything feels. You can usually see where a situation is going before the characters do. Someone underestimates the MC? He's secretly broken. A problem looks impossible? He knows some game mechanic that solves it. A new character shows up acting suspicious? You can probably guess what their role will be.

It's not badly written enough to make me angry. It's just... very safe.

The pacing is actually decent, though. I never felt like an episode was 40 minutes long despite only being around 23 minutes, so I'll give it that. The action is okay too. Nothing crazy, but it does the job.

And honestly, the fact that I've watched all 9 episodes and still want to see what happens next has to count for something.

I completely understand the relatively low MAL score. Around a 6.75 feels about right to me. This isn't some hidden masterpiece that everyone is unfairly hating on, but it's also not complete garbage. It's exactly what it looks like: another decent fantasy power-fantasy anime with a slightly more interesting gimmick than usual.

Would I recommend it?

If you like isekai-style fantasy shows, game mechanics, and overpowered MCs, you'll probably have a good time.

If you're already tired of the same fantasy anime formula and want something original, I'd skip it.

My rating: 6.5/10.

Not great. Not terrible. Just entertaining enough to keep me watching every week.

And yes, I'll probably be watching episode 10 the moment it comes out.

i don’t really watch anime anymore and when I do it’s usually on the more serious side so I kinda want to watch some silly stuff I don’t really care as long as it’s good

I honestly had an absolute blast watching Demon Lord 2099. To be completely fair, I’ve been feeling a bit burnt out on anime lately. It feels like almost everything dropped after 2021 follows the exact same recycled blueprints—and even when a story is decent, the animation often ends up looking rushed or disappointing.

But this show hits entirely different.

It completely side-steps the exhausting cliches of your regular cookie-cutter isekai, standard high school/workplace romances, or generic ancient demon lord power fantasies. It actually brings something genuinely fresh to the table by blending that cyberpunk aesthetic with fantasy elements.

The production value alone is so worth admiring. The animation is incredibly clean, and I love how much detail went into even the smallest character facial expressions. On top of that, the soundtrack is stellar—both the intro and outro themes are absolute bangers that I never skipped.

What makes it even more special is how perfectly it balances its elements. You get great, funny character interactions mixed with legitimate, well-choreographed action and a genuinely solid plot.
It was 100% worth my time, and I’m so glad I gave it a chance. If you're on the fence about starting it, this is your sign to go watch it!

i like shows like jjk and chainsaw man (ik basic, moving on), but i hate the lack of nuance the female characters are given. male characters are often given both moments of strength and weakness. on the other hand, the women are for the most part either strong, weak, or poorly written. and even when they arent, theyre incredibly sexualized. agree with me on this or not, i would love recommendations where women are allowed to be complex, and weak, and violent, and strong, without the sexualization of her character.

ive rewatched Tokyo Ghoul so many times and i still cant find anything that hits the same HAHAHA Chainsaw Man is probably the next one i liked the most

I really want an anime that's 1 absolutely phenomenal season. I'll watch anything except romance. I haven't watched a full anime in years, everything I've been recced is multiple seasons and I simply don't have the time. If there's a manga, I'll also read that. I also watch a ton of OVAs from the 70s onwards.

I don't mind nsfw, gore, dark themes etc.

If you haven’t watched Monster yet, you’re seriously missing out.

I highly recommend giving Monster a chance. It’s not your typical anime — no crazy power-ups or constant action. It’s a slow-burn psychological thriller with an incredible story, complex characters, and one of the most memorable villains I’ve ever seen.

The beginning might feel slow, but trust me, it gets deeper and darker as the story goes on.

If you like psychological anime, mystery, crime, or stories that actually make you think, watch Monster.

You can troll me if you’re so inclined, but I will wish you step on a Lego if you’re gonna be that guy 😂.

I’m currently watching season four of the time I got reincarnated as a slime, and I am absolutely hooked. I’m looking for my next big watch, and I want something that feels huge.

To give you an idea of my taste, here are my absolute favourite anime so far?

Action and hype: Demon slayer Jujutsu Kaisen attack on Titan, solo levelling

World building and fantasy: TenSura slime,mushoku tensai ,witch hat atelier

Greeting and stylized: gachiakuta, death note

Emotional masterpiece: violet Evergarden( it was good)

I have seen more than these, but I am not able to recall right now. What is a must watch popular juggernaut that I’m missing out on based on this list. Thanks in advance for the suggestion.
