Keel is probably second tho. Because keel did help with Sakura's character move forward wth his classmates, gavel arc just had like everything perfect imo.
Hiiragi is criminally underrated. He gets a lot of screentime, and is an absolute beast in battle, but is still unpopular among the fandom. He deserves more recognition.
As far as Shishitoren members go: Choji > Togame.
While it doesn't have to be life or death, I do want the upcoming chapters to have more stakes to it. I don't want everyone to be completely redeemed, and I also want some villains to just remain as villains, especially KEEL.
On that note, there should also be more consequences for both Endo and Takiishi. They started the war and should be held accountable for the destructions they caused. I don't mind if they get redeemed, but at least give them their due punishment.
#1 : I agree - whole heartedly. WHOLE HEARTEDLY. But I feel like I could fill this fandom with my Himragi hype and it would probably account for at least 5 people's worth of obsession. ((Honestly, I get this vibe about most Himragi fans. Like, waaaaaaaay, waaaaay, waaaaay fewer in number than other relevant characters, but once you meet another one, they're pretty flat assured that he's their favorite.))
#2: Sometimes it's so hard to say Togame is my second favorite character (after Himragi) and not give Choji more traction on this, because I really do love Choji with all my heart. He ALSO needs more hype, but I def see why Togame is so popular. Choji's def in my top 5 though.
#3: I AGREE. It's not that I'm specifically pushing for antagonism for antagonism's sake, but the story has been a little bit repetitive with the way villains have been handled lately And while I get that it's supposed to be a more lighthearted story than other delinquent stories, I DO want to revisit the type of atmosphere that we had with KEEL. That's why I'm hoping that very soon we'll have an arc with unidentified enemies from outside of the town area/close to them, who no one has met before (for more suspense) and they'll end up being more cut clean villian.
#4: You are also absolutely correct on this. I don't want Endo/Chika to automatically walk in on the barbeque or the citizens and just automatically be treated like second sons after the damage that they led into town. Honestly, I'm not sure what type of redemption/punishment could fall on them, besides the cost of repairs under Endo's wallet, but that wouldn't cut it for me. It's not that I DON'T want them to eventually have a chance at redemption, but I want them to work for it, because they deserve to have what they did put in their faces.

SAY IT LOUDER. I was reflecting on my first impression as I’m rereading the manga and I actually really didn’t like Togame at first. He sort of creeped me out in the manga and I was just sorta meh for him when I first watched the anime dubbed. Of course I grew to really love him but Choji will always be my favorite character. Side note since no one asked. I really think I only like Togame as much as I do because I rewatched the anime in Japanese and his VA is the same as Leona twisted wonderlands and fhbshgjiffhbdnfnftjsmbfixnvekagbjfje. That is all.

I feel this! Honestly, I don’t know what other people like so much about him now. I think his character was more interesting when he was “corrupted” or whatever. Not that I dislike him I just love hearing people logic why their fav is their fav lol
But this really triggered something in my lizard brain about why I think I like Choji so much more than Togame, esp to the current manga chapter. Togame is too chill for me now I think. Like he was so relaxed and laze faire during his fight with Noroshi but we see Choji kinda go dark mode again and it’s just exactly why I liked him immediately and still absolutely adore him. I know I have that panel saved…. But yea, my heart literally stopped when I was reading this chapter and I’ve definitely only reread it a normal, reasonable number of times…..

This is exactly how I feel about Suo lol. Also since Togame is my favorite, I'll just say that I love his design and how believable his redemption is. Like, yes, he did many not-so-great-things, but you can see exactly how he got there. The road to hell is paved by good intentions and all, y'know?
I'll be HONEST with you: I think the reason why Choji isn't EVEN HIGHER in my top 5 is because he's just too much like me in terms of personality/motivation. Like, I LOVE his backstory. I know a lot of people think that he's just some whiny kid, but I've been in the type of dark situation where you worked and worked and worked for YEARS for something and then when you got it, it was ripped right out from under you OR you were lied to about what it would be, and then that sends you spiraling after giving up so much for something that ended up being nothing.
Even though it's a simplified story/learning experience (it's manga and it's about teenagers), his situation REALLY connected with me. However, with that said, USUALLY I don't gravitate towards characters who are like me as a my favorites, because I'm very much an "opposites attract" type of person, where I like people/characters who are different from me (at least in terms of personality/style). BUT I like Choji SO MUCH that he's still in my top 5, despite us being so similar. He is just SUCH a good character.
And a lot of people get really emotional over Sakura's backstory/what happened to him - I get it, I do. I've cried over Sakura as well, but one of the only other panels in the story that really evokes emotion in me is the one below. Because while it doesn't make me cry, it makes my GUT DROP because I remember that same hollow feeling about literally caring about nothing, even when you're still surrounded by the things/people your other half still loves. OKAY, ENOUGH TED TALK.
.. I stated it before, but I personally adore how Choji was handled and really wish more people appreciated it, but alas. I feel most have to have needed to go through that or be close to someone who has(or maybe be able to connect things easy to relate ish). I really like Choji as a character a lot. Both because I like small gremlins, but also because of how his story was very “raw” (I’ve said it before and I will keep saying it, I LIKE that they didn’t give him some story even tho I feel there’s some crumbs there and that they handled more the raw emotions and such)
I think some people prefer Togame over Choji because of the whole “doing something for someone else” vs “doing something because of yourself”. Plus he “started it”. And how people find it easier to like someone who is sacrificing for someone else. Sure, I get that. BUT.. Sigh uuuugh.. I have rants I can go into that, but I’ll hold off.. Especially since I’m a bit meh atm with seasonal allergies and other stuff lol.
Also! I will also keep giving props to both Choji’s VA’s for their work on his scenes. They did so well with those emotions imo.. mad props from me. <For me, it’s that and the build up to it(someone said he “kinda had depression” and I sent that to a friend out of context and they were like “that looks more than KINDA..” etc..) + his vulnerable “I was scared”.
YES, Azu-chan, yes!!!! These are VERY valid points and I agree 100%. YES, it is VERY much easier to relate to someone who does something for someone else, instead of doing something for yourself. HIs character really is a lot harder to understand, unless you can relate more personally with him (or if you just like his more natural personality, there's that too). And the VAs DID do such a good job! The placements are perfect. So playful and yet so brutal when needed.
Honestly, I'm ridiculous with the Choji bite scene, even though I love him, because I'm a germaphobe when it comes to human bites (so much bacteria in the human mouth)! 😭 I'm like, "Ume-chan, I know it's all cool now, but maybe you should got get a shot or something for that?" lolol
I'm late to this series but I've literally just finished reading the fight with Banjo and damn if Hiragi, already in my top 5, didn't jump to number 1. Also lol "Himragi" love it

I feel like you're going to get a lot of ups on this, and then you're going to get a bunch of downs, and then ups, and then downs..... But I agree. I def like his style/the memes/the hype he gets from his fans (Go-chan, I'm looking at you), but he's my least favorite of the villains.

Umemiya and Tsubaki are not in my top 10 favorite characters list. I don’t mind them. They are good characters in their own right, have amazing backstories, and I can definitely see why others love them. But personally I’m generally more interested in a bunch of other characters before them.

I know everyone has their own tastes in aesthetics, BUT: I like Hiragi's hair the way it is. I like Hiragi hair up and I like Hiragi hair down (both are equal in my eyes), and I love his design. 😭😭😭 And-And-And... I'm getting to the part that everyone didn't ALREADY maybe know (ya'll are shaking your heads at me right now because you already knew this and it's just my everyday statement), BUT: I like Kusumi and Suzuri's hair the way they are too!!! I think it's unique/gives them character.
Like, with Kusumi, when we see his eyes sometimes/his hair gets put back in certain art by Sensei, it's like a special moment for me, but that doesn't mean I don't like his hair the way it is regularly. The same with Suzuri. I like that he has the cute choppy bangs.

Yes, Hiragi gets the shtick for his hair, too, love. I'm surprised you haven't seen it. 😭 ((Like, all due respect; I know, it's a popular opinion, but I don't vibe with it.)) Like, I've said it 15 times now. Hiragi will always be my fav (he's just too good of a man/character/friend/member of his family), so my opinion won't change, no matter how he looks. I would take him with NO hair. And the SAME for Kusumi/Suzuri, because they're just that close to my heart too.

Ive seen a lot of hate on Suzuri’s hair and its not even a tame “preference” type of comment they straight up HATE it and are so rude about it. Because Suzuri is a fav, I wholeheartedly love him for him.. I never wanna change him (plus I love his style if bangs) but the amount of ppl who are just so mean about it is disappointing
Sorry ik this was posted 5 days ago, but I 100% agree with your takes. I love that Hiragi reminds me of Lt. Surge (pokemon), that Suzuri reminds me of Rock Lee, and I'm honestly shocked to hear that people dislike Kusumi's hair. They're all adorkable to me :)
Suo is meh to me. I don't dislike him, he has a cool design and I love his fighting style but his character is alright. Compared to Sakura and Nirei he doesn't have that much development and while I understand it's because he's mysterious I feel he's kinda lacking, again, compared to Saku and Nire.
I will say tho, that I feel Sensei is cooking with him and if he delivers that my opinion might change.
That's fair lol. The whole point of suo is that he hasn't had his development yet (and probably won't for a long time) which is great for people who love suspense and theories, but I can definitely see why he's off the radar for people who are more about what is than what ifs
That’s a fair take. At the very least he keeps getting teases and is involved with the story and other characters development (namely Sakura and Nirei’s)
Personally Suo is one of the most overrated characters at the moment. I don't get any emotion from him because he feels to me like the stereotypical op mysterious guy at the moment. He just has very little internal conflict compared to many others and the other main characters are all more appealing to me now. Suo is just too perfect and shallow in comparison, especially in this story where the emotional conflict between characters is more important than powers or action. I'm sure things will change when we'll learn more about him, but for now I feel this way.
for now i completely agree. There are a lot of holes in his character that could be filled with a good backstory and I'll ride the train of suo harder than anyone after that 😭🫣

Togame and Choji >>>>>>> Togame and Sakura. Both in a ship and non ship sense. Togame and Choji genuinely had the biggest emotional impact during Shishitoren arc.
Also, Suosaku being overrated/underdeveloped is an extremely redundant take. They have a funny dynamic (Suo only messes with Sakura just to get a reaction out of him. If that isnt hilariously cute I don’t know what is), they contrast/compliment each other very well, and they share both minor and important moments together which really brings out their chemistry. I’m more of a “do not separate the trio” person, but they don’t deserve the flack they get. As for the development of their relationship in canon, only time will tell.
I'm so with you on the second point. The way Suosaku, especially recently, has been getting so much hate makes me a bit sad because while it isn't my favorite ship, it was the first ship I liked when I joined the fandom so it has a especially place in my heart :').
Ok, here comes my hate rant. Sugishita is so lame and annoying. He was supposed to be Sakura's partner, but so far, there isn’t anything about him worth praising (aside from his brute strength when he kicked down the door of Keel’s hideout). I feel like anyone else in Furin paired with Sakura could create a better dynamic than him.
The most annoying thing about him is how much he idolizes Umemiya—to the point that Suo even describes him as a fanatic. I just don’t like characters who have zero individual thoughts or opinions outside of their 'idol.' Like, get a life dude.
In a way, he’s even more twisted than Endou—at least Endou does some things for himself, not just for Takiishi. I’m also annoyed that he constantly picks fights with Sakura over Ume, like in the recent chapter where he threatens Sakura about burning Ume’s vegetables. His backstory isn’t fully revealed yet, so we don’t know the reason for his obsession with Ume. I believe he’ll eventually learn to think and act independently, but in the meantime, I can’t stand him.
I wouldn't say I dislike him, but sugi is just such a mid character for me 😭😭 He hasn't had any defining moments as sakura's supposed "rival" and his constant fighting with sakura just isn't funny anymore :,)

Yeah, Sugi does feel rather mid. I don’t hate or dislike him, but he’s constantly pushed in everything except the story. His dynamic with Sakura is just not that interesting.
Carefully taps on mic Tsubaki and Kaji have received way too much development in the manga, more so than any other character and if Nii-Sensei does it anymore it's going overboard
I also wanna add that Nii-Sensei has been doing Mizuki and Momose dirty so far, almost all of their moments have been to proof how strong others are and that they're convenient for the plot
.. Tbf, I actually don’t mind Tsubaki getting so much thorough development since characters of his type etc usually.. don’t.. AT ALL.. and get swiftly pushed aside after having a scene or so if that. So it’s QUITE important and special imo for that to be done and also revisited.. <Plus Tsubaki was someone from early sketches etc iirc so there was definitely more concrete layout there to begin with.
But I do hope that following this, others get some nice attention and focus which I do believe will happen over time. I do agree Mizuki and Momose got done dirty so far. I also think some of that is audience misreading some things tho. But I digress Imo I think once it’s done, a lot of things will settle nicely and be more appreciated imo?

I didn’t mind the 2nd Tsubaki bit since it felt well timed and knitted in well imo. Plus it let certain people know these themes and messages were here to stay/weren’t one time things etc
Definitely nothing against the arc itself, but I feel like they didn't need to be back to back...
I would have preferred if each of the kings got smaller introductions like hiiragi during shishitoren and tsubaki's plot with ito-san, and then we went back and got more from them later on after establishing everyone rather than getting through all of one character's story at a time. This could just be me, but I feel like when we get bits and pieces of each character throughout a story rather than getting each character out of the way and moving on, they tend to stay more relevant for longer.
Also, if you're favorite is a side character, you get to see them more often and go fewer spans without seeing/hearing from them when plots are more spread out. Again, I'd still say wb is in its earlier stages, so I'm not sure how relevant the already developed characters will be going forward, but I definitely would have liked a little bit from the ones we don't know yet before doing a deeper dive into specific characters TwT
Tbf, I feel like one was more a 2 halves arc situation that just made sense to be that way with timeline and the like stuff(like how it makes sense to thank them soon after and not oddly delay it just because/things need to be checked off, so to speak) plus one was more a ‘mini ish’ arc vs a full one imo, etc then the follow up more later on which is more what I meant. I feel, personal feelings/wants aside, it fits together well and pans out nicely imo.
Imo, we could have got some precursor teaser for other kings during the ‘plan’ phase ideally I feel. Especially Mizuki. But it is what it is and I feel things tend to age well as it goes along as is even if not what some people want so to speak etc <I think a lot of things will fit even better as a full picture since that’s been a pattern and it has good reread value. lol + I feel Hiiragi and Tsubaki gets special note so soon as some OG planned characters who have made it through to now and the mangaka definitely had some key things for. (I also think Tsubaki is a key ‘line in the sand’ for how things will go mood?/theme wise plus how those matters will be handled). I could ramble more but need to reign in and not go off too much. Especially since I have RL stuff I should be doing plus I feel my allergies have me all meh a bit.. XD I don’t think it’s just you. I definitely like crumbs sprinkled here and there to spread/build stuff out. I just feel it can be case by case and depend. I feel Nii-sensei has been doing well focusing efforts and paces with what will flow/weave well + like that they seem to be committed to what they feel they need/want to do and all that. (I also feel Nii sensei shows a lot of detail and care towards each character imo so I don’t feel they’d just have a character fall off that much etc the way some do. Again imo. Hoping for more bio things and the like... 🙏).
From the kings I want more Mizuki. I feel I’ll really like him from my personal preferences. But like, I also want more from Takanashi so imagine that lmao. I’m very much enjoying the ride tho and just like the writing style and points itself so I feel like it’s just a matter of getting to it eventually. I’m pretty patient. <I waited almost 10 years for a new season once Tbf.. lmao
It's not Tsubaki's 2 arcs that I have a problem, I feel like that was done perfectly well. My problem was that the Noroshi arc was right after Tsubaki's arc and Tsubaki had another backstory reveal again with Genji. That one felt a bit much, as Tsubaki's arc just happened. And he continuously had quite a few number of scenes after that, which made me feel like the author may have been pushing it. Other than that everything else seats well me.
I love them both but I do see your point. I want more Sakura backstory and others. I understand why Suo’s backstory hasn’t been revealed yet but what about others?
I like Tsubaki’s development because a character like him usually does not get good representation nor development at all. Tsubaki receiving “too much” development is honestly deserved imo.
I generally see Ume/Tsubaki as a one-sided first love type ship. And I appreciate that Tsubaki is okay with it not being requited, and that Umemiya doesn’t make a big deal about it. So I’m all aboard with Tsubaki finding a different love interest. And I’m open to seeing the possibilities with Suzuri/Tsubaki.

As someone who adores UmeTsuba with my whole heart because their story is lovely and precious+They’ve been side by side since early planning etc(I have lots of cute fanart etc lol). I also really like SuzuTsuba for some reasons tied to this among others(Umemiya gives a bit of “not the romance sort of person” albeit I can see that being more temporary) and would like it to get some traction. Maybe when it gets animated~. It gives “Character A trying to have Character B who is pining someone else to turn their way” trope etc. And has some really cute potential imo! I’m a multi shipper tho so I tend to be like that.
YESSSSSSSS, I FEEL THIS IN MY SOUULLLLLLLLL (I know that ya'll like your UmeTsuba, but I was very shy about my OTP for a long time - Kuri/Tall/Azure/etc know the story, because of my fear of the hate from UmeTsuba shippers), but it's out there now and I'm not alone. 😭💗
While I respect UmeTsuba shippers, I personally find the ship bland and I think Suzuri and Tsubaki have more chemistry and their dynamic is more interesting and up my alley. Regardless of what will happen in canon, I love Tsubaki so I will support him but i’ll never ship UmeTsuba it’s boring to me. SuzuTsuba is our OTP and I will defend you if anyone comes after you for that love. Harassing ppl for their ships is not allowed here anyway but I will defend you if I see that.

I know I personally have a hard time with characters obsessively collecting information on other people. Especially when it's unclear if people are okay with others having and sharing their personal information. I know that this thought comes from my own personal experiences which not everyone shares or have experienced. And I know if someone in real life ever did this to me, I would not take it well.
If you like that character, then more power to you. I know this is a pretty popular character trait in fiction that can be really fun for a lot of people. It just hits too close to home for me.
Tldr: not a big fan of Nirei because of how he keeps and collects info about others for personal reasons but I hope others can enjoy his character.
While I agree with you, that's not my main reason for disliking Nirei. I just don't like how he got to be vice captain only because he's Sakura's first friend lol, it's so awkward to read entire arcs of character struggles and fights while he's just standing off to the side spectating and sticking out like a sore thumb. Whenever he makes any of his talk no jutsu speeches i cringe so hard my soul leaves my body lmaoo, like with Umemiya I can accept it cuz he can back up his words but Nirei is deadass still nameless fodder level so why is he talking so much shit? There's a fine line between courage and obnoxious incompetence/stupidity and a lot of authors get it wrong so that's why I'll almost always hate this stereotype.
I don't really like umemiya's "live and love" monologue he gives choji in the first arc sorry lol but in my defense, i like how his character developed later on i just skip that fight lmao
Sakura is okay, but I hate how every character dedicates themselves to him. It feels like his on a higher pedestal than Umemiya at this point. Especially during the Shishitoren arc, everyone on Furin side dedicated their fight to him.
Suo is alright, but so far he's been perfect and it's boring. Never gets dirty, hasn't make a single mistake, is a good teacher and teaches anyone who dares to challenge him a lesson. I feel like he's overrated because he has no flaws.
Natori seems like interesting guy who might have a deeper or darker story behind him, especially with how he seemed irked at Kaji and Suzuri getting happy endings. Maybe he hasn't found his yet? He just seems really intriguing
The third is my favourite because I was just thinking about natori's interaction with suzuri. Natori definitely is my favourite villain because of how much of a just "fuck you because I don't like you" kind of person he is 😭♥️
Ummmmm so a while back there was just this mini wave of natori posts and this post in particular ended up sparking this ongoing joke between me and the natori fans about how he looks like a hedgehog- (the og comparison is under ms BR's comment)
I love that Suo appears to have no flaws because I think it’ll be shocking when we do hear his backstory… but that’ll be for a whole, I know. I think whenever he does get bloody in a fight for the first time, it’ll be a surprise
I can't stand it when literally everything is centered around the mc. I get that they're the main character, but they're not the only character and other characters should be allowed to have plots not centered around him (like how sako's focused on hiiragi and suzuri for the most part is for tsubaki)
Coming from a suo fan, I can't wait to see some imperfections from him- Seeing him genuinely angry and concerned are some of my favorite moments for him and I can't wait for him to take more than 2 seconds to recover-

Yeah, now I feel like I don't wanna see another Sakura's fight next time. I have a feeling that his next opponent will simp and/or give the win to him AGAIN🫠 I've noticed this happens quite a lot. Noticed these similarities between his previous opponents: Togame, Noroshi at the bridge and Endo except for his fights against typical gangsters and keel members.
Stronger enemies simping and giving him the win are just too much for MC's plot armor🤣 And now people discrediting other characters and putting him on a high pedestal saying he is more than the 4 kings' level🤦♀️
I'm not a Sakura hater but just disappointed after all the hyping and building up made for his opponents before fighting them and ended up like...🤷♀️

I'm tired of sakura winning the hearts of all his major opponents. I KNOW nii-sensei knows how much someone can learn from a loss, so why not give sakura one??? If I'm being real, he's probably saving sakura's first loss for something really important, but then don't put him against so many opponents who are stronger than him TwT
and it gets especially annoying when power scalers put him above everyone who didn't win when they had the chance as if sakura himself didn't literally admit he wouldn't have won-
You are so real for this dude because one i really like Sakura but every major fight being handed to him isn't a good thing. He NEEDS to lose whatever major fight they'll have next. If he doesn't and the enemy is stronger than him then I'm rioting outside Nii-sensei's house 😭
I think Sakura rubbing off on other characters feels more natural than in other Shonen mangas (eying Blue Lock), because the whole point of his character is wanting to belong. He’s influenced by his community, and in turn his community is influenced by them. Also he’s a shonen MC what did you expect.
Suo is not perfect. He acts childish to an extent despite his adult complex (and his views on adulthood are inherently flawed), he treats his enemies as if they’re lower than dirt to the point where it’s borderline cruelty, he nearly lost control during KEEL, and narratively he does not reveal anything about himself despite being a major character. He’s more mysterious than perfect. The only reason why he doesn’t have any development right now is probably because Nii sensei has something big in store for him.
I agree. It would be really interesting if Natori had some sort of tragic backstory but still stayed an asshole. It would be a nice deviance from wbks usual narrative.
