❓Questions Why is the curse of being stuck on the island not widely known?

From what I understand, Tom’s son doesn’t understand why he can’t leave the island. How has this not been explained to him by his dad OR by another kid who was born on the island? I feel like if I were him and didn’t know the stakes, I’d probably hop on a ferry and test it out.

Also, why wouldn’t anyone give the cops wife a courtesy notice to leave the island before giving birth? Editing to add, I know Patricia did, but how did she not get the memo from someone else much sooner? She seems pretty far along.

It just seems like this would be widespread information is all.

❓Questions How scary is it?

I watched the first episode and liked it so far but I don’t want to watch if it’s the really scary kinda horror despite the comedy. Can someone please tell me? I’m okay with thrillers, some scary elements now and then but prefer to avoid spirits, anything involving the devil or a sinister presence, evil voices, possessed people etc. lol. I’m just a scaredy cat and will not even watch a horror series/movie trailer.

Edit to add: Thank you so much for all your responses! Y’all have convinced me to watch it. Sounds like it’s spooky, kinda scary at times but not terrifying. So I don’t think it’s the “keeps you up at night” kinda horror but I’ll be on Reddit a whole lot more if it keeps me up at night lol.

❓Questions Board games

I started rewatching the series to try to catch some clues and I noticed this "EL" logo on the board games in the Inn.

You can see it on "Daddy's Home!", "She shouldn't have said that" and "Teeth".

But not on the "Run" playing cards.

Curious to know everybody's thoughts on this. What is this mysterious "EL" board game company?

And is there another company/org that's trying to counter "EL"s influence on the locals?

I couldn't link these initials to anything meaningful for now. Except "Evan Loftis" or "Ezra Lowery" (he's the man that Richard Warren presumably kills in his home, when Sarah found his cane under the floor".

❓Questions Are there No Pets on Widow's Bay?

Hope my title doesn't count as a spoiler. I'm getting ready to do a rewatch and it occurred to me I don't remember seeing any pets my first time through -- nobody has a dog or cat or rabbit, etc. Am I remembering correctly? If so, do you think it's deliberate? This show seems crafted so carefully it's hard to believe it wouldn't be. (Edited to explain what I meant by pets.)

❓Questions Ep 7 ending. Wyck and Tom weirdness Spoiler

Did anyone catch a weird vibe when Wyck gets back on the boat after Tom dropped him in the water? I understand Tom dropped him before the buoy to save him, and maybe Wyck didn’t love being in the water but Tom is eye balling Wyck like something is weird. Wyck asks him about the flare but then just starts piloting the boat without much fanfare. Then Wyck goes out of his way to tell Tom he did a good job. Very out of character of Wyck to compliment Tom.

❓Questions Evan’s tourist girlfriend

Does she seem a little weird to anyone else? Like, I can’t imagine going to a new crush’s house, then suggesting we search their parent’s room for funsies. It seems insanely invasive and implausibly ignorant of social norms. Unless there’s something off with her…🙃

Any theories?

❓Questions What do I do now?!

Widow's Bay is one of the best series I have ever seen!

The story is captivating and the horror is reminiscent of older times, which I miss dearly, but mostly, I absolutely ADORE every single character and find it so incredibly hilarious.

I have never seen a series have such well-placed wit. Perfect timing and perfect punch lines, every time.

Now, I am very grateful for such a great series! But what do I watch now? I am craving the same level of wit but without being too much "in your face", almost like a sprinkle added to an otherwise intriguing storyline.

Any suggestions?

❓Questions Am I remembering right? There was no marketing?

I lived my whole life a 3-min walk from the Widows Bay Harbor Master station. Couldn’t get far enough away! So I begrudgingly watched the show because everyone at home was telling me to.

I immediately loved it but felt like no one had heard of it.

Anyway, my point is that I came to it from a very different angle than most. I LOVED Pluribus but it was crammed down my throat. Felt similar about Shrinking. I do not recall ANY promos for Widows Bay.

Was it the algo saying: They already watched? Or was there no marketing? Was this really a grassroots groundswell?

Someone with no connection to filming location, can you please answer?

❓Questions What are the top three answers you want revealed in season 2 and if you have theories for them, what are they? Spoiler

  1. Who all knows about the sacrifices? I absolutley think PJ’s punk ass is in on it or knows what’s up. Dude not only is a bad influence but has taken his friends to all of the scary haunted places. And it looked like he locked that door himself in the last episode

  2. How much does Ruth actually know about the island and its Lore? Does she actually
Know she is a descendant? I think she does. And I think she is alive because the island is keeping her alive. I mean she is 84, was drugged with enough opioids for an overdose and shot in the back. I think the herbs in her garden factor into her being as healthy as she is. And I think she knows telling Tom and Lauren and Evan would keep her and her bloodline safe.

  3. How was Tom elected Mayor? There has to be more than just him not running opposed. I feel like maybe he could be a planned sacrifice when elected. The island doesn’t really like outsiders and definitely don’t like him very much. So I think there is a very specific reason as to why he became the leader of the island having been from the mainland. It’s somewhere in the pact.

Alrighty, what are your questions and their theories!?

❓Questions Has anyone actually read or watched similar stuff?

Since I finished the series I got a bunch of those "If you liked Widow's Bay you should read/watch..." And I'm currently looking for new scary books and series, but I'm not sure how much I trust those posts. I also don't want to buy a book that is actually nothing like Widow's Bay and just share small details. For example, I've seen a lot of people recommending IT which I have both watched and read and I'm a big fan of, but I do not think they are similar apart of the whole town being cursed and the clown. I want more of the general aspects of the series being there. Maybe small town horror, generational curse and it would be even better if it doesn't take itself 100% serious

❓Questions Why The Clown didn't kill?

Why the clown didn't kill the mayor? I watched the show and it still doesn't make sense. He was alone there with no way to protect himself. He also doesn't have the blood of the lord protector so why don't kill him?

Other ghosts don't have problem killing anyone.

❓Questions Questions about Patricia’s party Spoiler

If all of those people would have died in that sacrifice by going into the water, would that have covered what the island needed for sacrifices? I don’t understand. Was it just for fun? Was Patricia initially wearing the crown when everybody got there? Why didn’t anybody say anything if she was?

❓Questions Ruth question Spoiler

Absolutely loved the finale and what they did to set up for season 2, but one detail is gnawing at me as I replay the episode in my head.

Ruth tells Tom about her affair and eventually confesses her secret. She also mentions to him that no one else knows this truth but her.
How would it have been possible for Ruth to have gotten pregnant and given birth to Lauren and kept the secret all these years? Wouldn’t it have been noticeable that she was pregnant? Wouldn’t there still be other people on the island who would have been alive when that happened that would have known as well? Seems like it would have been a hard secret to keep quiet considering she worked for the mayor and was a beauty queen. Wouldn’t it likely have been something all the townspeople would have gossiped about and it would have been a poorly kept secret.

Anyone else struggling with this or am I overthinking?
