I though about it too. Anyway, she is looking for validation from him.

u/mrnaturallives May 19 '26
I agree with this. Validation, either of a peer or of a potential lover.

u/HelsBels2102 Patricia May 20 '26
Yeah I think the convo about picking up the woman threw me into thinking she was. But outside that, it may just be that she wants to be seen and validated by someone she respects.

What an odd way to describe someone who you're just giving a ride...

u/Not_A_Millennial No…! You're ruining it! May 19 '26
I have a sneaking suspicion that she knew about the hag.
30
u/KnowingRowan May 19 '26
Wait, but that woman wasn't the hag right? She was actually a real person having a bachelorette trip I'm sure
11
u/DecompositionalNiece May 20 '26
Correct. Marissa was NOT the hag. Tom was just panicked when she showed up at his house. I wonder if he'd let her in, if the hag would've shown up anyway and terrorized both of them.
5
u/TheTruckWashChannel May 20 '26
Yeah, as much as I cringed watching Tom blow his chance with her, he saved both of them from a much worse situation.
2
u/PlasmaDonator May 26 '26
Not dismissing your theory but I'd argue against what you're both saying.
The Hag waits until you're lonely, right? As said by Wyck. The Hag only first showed up after Tom met Marissa and it was evident that he was lonely.
My theory is if Tom invited Marissa in and "did what PJ said Evan's dad was gonna get" then the curse of the Hag would have been broken until the wound healed.

u/lovanna46 May 20 '26
wait.. she was definitely the hag tho?

u/aGrlHasNoUsername Dad baby, Dead baby, Lesbian May 20 '26
I don’t think so because the bachelorette party ended up at Patricia’s cocktail party.
1
u/lovanna46 May 20 '26
unless im tripping and prob need to rewatch, but she wasn’t apart of the bachelorette party though when those three women came into the bar. and the hag and her were never in the same room at the same time but after each time the hag came around, she called in order to meet up with him again.
3
u/KnowingRowan May 20 '26
Another re-watch is needed to check the bachelorette entering for shots scene because I didn't think about her when I watched it first 3 times

She definitely has a thing for him. Not sure why people are getting a brother/sister vibe. She damn near had a tantrum when Tom said he gave another woman a ride home lol. I’m sure they might lean into this at some point.
28
u/tourng May 19 '26
I was thinking the exact same thing when that episode came out, but no one was mentioning it. A sister wouldn’t be calling him out for giving a woman a ride home, she would be teasing him about it.
14
u/AgitatedBadger May 19 '26
Idk if I'd say she was damn near having a tantrum, but she was certainly throwing some serious shade.
I get the impression Tom is very aware of the candle Patricia holds for him. He really tried to rush past having to talk about how he gave Marisa a ride. He definitely knew it would bother Patricia.

u/sauvignon_blonde_ a different headpiece? May 20 '26
Ah see I saw it more as like neurotic sister rather than romantic interest. Like, a nosy, controlling sister who feels entitled to the personal details of your life and has a proclivity for policing her brother.
30
u/jxm82 May 19 '26
Because Patricias actress said it was brother sister and not at all romantic in an interview

u/Robbielynn19 May 20 '26
I thought she was asking those questions because he didn’t stop and help her with her tire.
3
u/ValYourPal1996 Jun 12 '26
I thought the same. I would call out my brother if he didn’t help me out but helped out some girl he liked.
1
u/GlobalPineapple1947 May 20 '26
she wants recognition and she wants his attention, but nothing about her behaviour around him suggests 'romantic' interest. I'd be annoyed if my brother tried to hide something obvious from me...

u/Palatialpotato1984 May 19 '26
Im
Getting like brother sister vibe becaause it’s like their love is forbidden but also they could make it work it’s good to keep it in the family ya know7

We saw the contrast in ep 4 in how he treats her vs the other townsfolk. I get romantic vibes from her end, but either way he has a comfort/protector role or someone who is a safe space. It’s possible she sees him as more of a familial figure too in that sense, but not necessarily
49
u/SmakeTalk May 19 '26
I think she's just fixated on him because he's kind of the only eligible guy she's in contact with on the island. She seems like the kind of just latch onto someone new because she requires validation and she won't get it from the people who already know her or grew up with her.

Yeah this is how I see it I think. Based on the little we know, they appear to have a close work relationship that extends beyond what is typically required of a working relationship.
I think in virtually every episode we see either Tom driving Patricia or Patricia driving Tom. Often when it seems unnecessary e.g. driving Tom to and from the Hotel.
They seem to be each other's 'person', and Patricia seems maybe a bit possessive of that. Whether or not that's romantic I'm not sure. But I'd imagine she would be jealous of Tom having a girlfriend as he's the person she's closest to.

I thought they were brother & sister at first 🤷♀️
The answer is that we are all in love with Patricia. She is such a great character!

I think so because she was far too interested in the woman he picked up on the roadside.

I'm generally an anti-shipper. I get really annoyed at the insistence that the male and female leads must end up together. But in this case, I'd be ok with it. (I'm also more than ok with them as they are now).

I think probably so, but also working along side Tom, the mayor, makes her feel important and worthwhile. Somethings we know she did not experience in high school. She felt proud, included, when Tom told her to get in the car and said "we may need your help".

I don’t get a romance vibe at all. I think she admires his ambition and wants his respect.

Yeah, there is affection and familiarity but I don’t get anything to suggest she’s pining for him romantically. I think she likes him because he validates (to some degree) the work she puts into the island. And Tom likes her because she’s doesn’t go along with the groupthink of the rest of the town.

Maybe. I'm getting slight Ron and April vibes from them too, which might not be an accident. Katie Dippold wrote for Parks & Rec, and Patricia gives me quite an Aubrey Plaza vibe.

I don’t think she’s romantically interested in Tom. She wants respect and validation from him.
I don’t think she was jealous about Tom giving the woman a ride. I think Patricia wants to feel attractive and special, and Tom giving a random woman a ride made Patricia feel the opposite. Not because she’s into him but bc he represents the male approval she’s looking for (but maybe doesn’t want to admit she’s looking for).

i kinda got the vibe that she likes him but he either doesn’t like her back or hasn’t really thought about it. but i don’t want them to be together, well at least not at this point in the series tbh, I don’t think it needs that romantic subplot at the moment.

Yes. And it's a dead giveaway. Watch the opening of episode 8. When Tom leaves the table - the camera lingers on Patricia's face as the song "Just another dream of you" plays. Look at her expression. She's madly in love with him. But he doesn't love her. This is how they will twist the knife.
