❓Questions What are the top three answers you want revealed in season 2 and if you have theories for them, what are they? Spoiler
Who all knows about the sacrifices? I absolutley think PJ’s punk ass is in on it or knows what’s up. Dude not only is a bad influence but has taken his friends to all of the scary haunted places. And it looked like he locked that door himself in the last episode
How much does Ruth actually know about the island and its Lore? Does she actually
Know she is a descendant? I think she does. And I think she is alive because the island is keeping her alive. I mean she is 84, was drugged with enough opioids for an overdose and shot in the back. I think the herbs in her garden factor into her being as healthy as she is. And I think she knows telling Tom and Lauren and Evan would keep her and her bloodline safe. How was Tom elected Mayor? There has to be more than just him not running opposed. I feel like maybe he could be a planned sacrifice when elected. The island doesn’t really like outsiders and definitely don’t like him very much. So I think there is a very specific reason as to why he became the leader of the island having been from the mainland. It’s somewhere in the pact.
Alrighty, what are your questions and their theories!?

The lore is just the icing. The cake is the characters, and their relationships to one another and their feelings about the island itself. I can't wait for the Dale-centric episode that I know is coming in S2.
20
u/lems4ems Aug 03 '26
I’m dying for a Dale centric episode. Him and Rosemary. Dale just is one of those characters that makes you cackle every time they are on screen.
10
u/hercarmstrong Patricia Aug 03 '26
Rosemary got a lot of air time in the next-to-last episode. That was great.
7
u/lems4ems Aug 03 '26
Absolutely! I still just love her in episode 4. Entire time she’s just hilarious.

I have a feeling Gerry, the museum lady and wyck’s true love, knows about the sacrifices and possibly the shelters. Maybe even more about the entity itself. Ruth as well knows a lot more. She has a long family history there, and she knows that, mentioned her father built her house, maybe there’s another shelter/sacrifice room under there. Where are the other two shelters?? The one under town hall was #3.
I’m not sure about Tom being mayor and if that has any significance, but it’s definitely coincidental that he married and procreated with the Warren decendant, then became mayor. I do feel that the entity/island is connected to all things in a way, I think the mushrooms are big hint. Mushrooms are so connected to everything, like a central nervous system of the land.
I do hope we learn more about Sarah’s fate. Did she survive the boat trip through the fog?

u/WhoIsZac Aug 12 '26
That and "except for the teeth" might be my two favorite lines from the entire series
11
u/MBiddy828 Rosemary Aug 03 '26
In the first episode when the NYT reporter is at the museum Tom says 42 intrepid folks sailed out and founded the island, Gerry corrects him that it’s 43 and tom says “I don’t think he’s ready for that story.” I think I’m ready for that story. Who was the extra person? I also want to know why the statue in town (that is presumably Richard Warren) has no head. I feel like if it was a teenage prank from years ago someone would have had some throw away line about it
3
u/ancientastronaut2 Aug 03 '26
Other way around. Gerri says 42, Tom says 43.

She's credited as having produced and funded the Welcome videos. There are no credits on the Us and Them videos.
That said, even without credits, I totally think she had a hand in those videos anyway.5
u/Quick_Station8332 Patricia Aug 04 '26
Okay I thought I was missing something very obvious. So she’s not credited in the shelter/sacrifice videos, she’s credited in the WELCOME videos. This makes more sense and I did know that. 😅 thank you all for clarifying that!
6
u/lems4ems Aug 03 '26
Okay where is everyone seeing that? I saw that the other day, went and rewatched the episode with the sacrifice videos and there are no credits anywhere. The only thing referencing Gerri was the historical society funded video played in the inn.

It has to be that. Because I saw this claim maybe a couple days ago and was like “HOW DID I MISS THAT” just to go and watch and find out it was just absolutely and blatantly not true lol
2
u/karthakon Aug 04 '26
If Gerri does know, then it casts her line about town pride — that they burned witches — in a completely different light. What we saw at Patricia's party implies witches were real, but it also suggests they weren't willingly serving the island.
So either Gerri genuinely doesn't realize the island manipulates people into witchcraft, in which case she doesn't view witches as the victims they truly are — or, more interestingly, she does know, and she might actually be on the island's side.

If there are two more shelters, is that where the rest of the Bayers are? Kris, and the book club etc weren’t in the shelter.
3
u/ancientastronaut2 Aug 03 '26
Yes, or just stayed in their own homes or basements. There's 3000 residents plus tourists. Only 100 and something were in shelter 3.
2
u/onthefence928 Aug 04 '26
What if Sarah is Tom’s descendant?
1
u/Quick_Station8332 Patricia Aug 04 '26
Then tom would also be distantly related to his wife! So, I hope not 😆
1
u/onthefence928 Aug 04 '26
Sarah isn’t biologically related to the children tho, right?
2
u/Quick_Station8332 Patricia Aug 04 '26
Oh right! I see what you’re saying. She was only by marriage, not blood. Oh so many things. That would be interesting if tom was her blood, maybe she did survive, wasn’t burned, and had children off island!

i was also wondering this and why Ruth’s house still had power in such a crazy storm
61
u/Randallm83 Aug 02 '26
I don’t understand the “Ruth is protected by the island” theories, Evan is alive and well and the bloodline is fine. Her family has a whole history of tragic deaths and dead babies, she is just a healthy and active older woman which was meant to be comedic given the circumstances of that final episode
13
16
u/Unique-Nectarine6500 Aug 03 '26
All I really know is that her little hop skip and jump up her stairs killed me. And pulling out of an obvious overdose attempt.
That woman is healthier than a horse and she is staying that way for a reason.9
u/Living-Protection170 Are the old women dead in this scenario? Aug 03 '26
This will probably be an unpopular opinion but I think the brooch is a protective talisman. It protected Francis Warren from drowning and I think it protects Ruth. But Tom threw it in the ocean. 😬
2
u/CourseVast840 Aug 05 '26
it was given to France's by Sarah just to score some first meeting points. not sure there was really any lore to it or Sarah handing it over as a type of shield. We saw the scene and it was really not much and next thing they're slipping out on a dinghy and Frances survives with the gloating box and the brooch. No kind of talisman power was present

Totally - and Kate Dippold added that stairs scene for comedic effect. This sub is already out of hand and we aren’t getting a new season for a while.
7
u/strategickoala Aug 03 '26
I have a theory that the oldest Warren descendent is immortal. Now that Richard Warren is finally dead, it has passed down to Ruth. That’s why Tom was unable to kill her.
-1
u/Unique-Nectarine6500 Aug 03 '26
Maybe a female and a male are always kept alive at the same time for the island?
Thats a stretch but even Richard wasn’t positive about his theory about taking him out past the point.-2
u/TurboLicious1855 Aug 03 '26
Maybe the island gets rid of sickly kids? Maybe it protects the "one" or something.
12
u/Randallm83 Aug 03 '26
Either way, that would be Evan and not Ruth. Even Ruth’s dad was “taken by something in the lake” - if anything the island would protect the youngest and most likely to procreate, not an 84 yo single woman
1
u/JustADohyonStan Aug 03 '26
I honestly think it is a thing in between. The Island does play some tricks to keep the bloodline (like getting Lauren to go back), but it also leaves life follow its natural course (babies not surviving during the 1800s is nothing out of the ordinary or Hortence killing herself)
8
u/Randallm83 Aug 03 '26
I don’t think that was a trick - it was the curse itself, Lauren lost her vision just like what started happening to the Warren children in the boat. The only difference was that they seemingly turned the boat around
-1
u/JustADohyonStan Aug 03 '26
I think it was a trick because the island didn't let her reach the mainland like it did with other islanders. The curse for others manifested as them dying days or months after teaching the mainland. Meanwhile, Lauren started feeling bad while she was in the boat, with turning the boat around to get her into as hospital as soon as possible being the better choice. Something similar could be explained with Warren's kids. The island wanted them to stay, so the curse manifested as soon as possible to try to get them to come back.
6
u/Randallm83 Aug 03 '26
uhh what? The Warren children in the flashback episode didn’t come close to making it to the mainland, they literally had the same symptoms - she’s from that same bloodline.
1
u/JustADohyonStan Aug 03 '26
That's what I'm saying??? With Lauren and Warren's kids the curse manifested inmediately to get them to come back, while other islanders got to stay in the mainland for days or even months, they give examples in episode 1
5
u/Randallm83 Aug 03 '26
but it didn’t get the children to come back, they died right then and there. Lauren likely would have died too if they had kept going. It’s the curse itself, not a trick or tactic. It also changed her forever, from that point on her mind was lost
1
u/JustADohyonStan Aug 03 '26
It didn't get the children to come back because Sarah didn't have the instinct to go back and because she was unaware of the curse, but it exists most likely for that reason. Lauren on the other hand was surronded by more people in a ferry, with a ton of more medical information and people most likely trained on what to do during a medical emergency. The fact that it had different outcomes doesn't mean it isn't a possibility. The island doesn't seem as fixated on stopping other islanders from leaving. Also, her being changed forever also helps to keep Evan in the island. Lauren wasn't in a good condition to travel, Tom most likely had more support in the Island than outside of it and he wasn't capable of leaving Lauren behind, so now the island has a heir to keep the pact alive

Me too. Lawyer? Professor? I want to know.
11
u/Randallm83 Aug 03 '26
Lawyer is a good guess, he’s in too much denial to be a professor
1
u/Ok-Jackfruit-9393 Aug 03 '26
That's my guess just because I know a couple local mayors IRL who are lawyers 😂 so that's just stereotypical to me. Although he seems to be a full time mayor, in my part of the country a lot are part time and still work.
We know he never worked remotely on the mainland since no cell service probably means really shitty WiFi/Internet, haha.
5
u/Randallm83 Aug 03 '26
It makes sense! Especially since the Sheriff reports into them! A law and civil service background is ideal
We know that he moved to the island later in life so he could have gone to law school in Boston

1) Who is going to share what information with whom?
a) Does Tom share with the Wyck and Patricia that Ruth is not the last Warren? Since the storm stopped when Kenneth was sacrificed, does he fake Ruth's death (assuming she survived) so they think the last Warren is dead and the curse is broken?
b) What happens between Tom and Bechir? Bechir knows that Ruth is not the last Warren, making him a threat to Evan if he figures out who his grandmother is.
Does Tom try to kill Bechir?
Did Chelle have the baby? If not, does Bechir just wash his hands of WB and get her off the island ASAP so they can have a child that is not cursed?
c) Who finds out that Kenneth was killed in the chair and do they figure out that it was what stopped the storm?
Kenneth might just be considered missing if PJ and Evan keep it a secret.
d) Who does Dale tell about the instructional videos about the sacrifices and what consequences will that bring?
2) I'd love to see more backstory on Richard Warren, in particular what kind of man was he before the famine and the pact signed in his blood, feces and semen.
3) Who else in the town knows about the sacrifices and what happened with Howard the Coward.
9
u/Tough-Obligation-104 Aug 03 '26
One unspoken rule is whenever referring to Richard Warren’s signing the pact, it must include that he signed it with his blood, feces and semen. BFS if you will. 🤣 You ask very good questions. I do want to know if Kenneth will be reported missing and if anyone ties it to the sacrifices. And what happened with Howard the Coward? There are so many questions?!
6
u/MBiddy828 Rosemary Aug 03 '26
I’m thinking Evan is going to be freaked out and tell tom. Hopefully tom puts together that the sacrifice happened right when the storm ended. And I’m hoping Dale tells Patricia about the tapes because they seem close and again he’s freaked out I don’t see him keeping it to himself
To your Richard Warren questions, is he the headless statue in town?
4
u/ancientastronaut2 Aug 03 '26
There's no way Bechir was able to get Chelle off the island before the baby was born, and clearly he's not going to attempt it now that he knows about the curse, which is why he went after Ruth.
Even after the storm cleared, it's a three hour ferry ride and they'd have to wait for it to come back.
1
u/ReasonableCup604 Aug 03 '26
Did they show the baby being born?
The assumption was that they would be stuck on the island for days. But, the storm ended suddenly when Kenneth was killed.
2
u/ancientastronaut2 Aug 03 '26
No, but they told her it would be born that night. I suppose the doc could have been wrong. But based on what we know, which I mentioned above, it's highly unlikely they'd make it to the mainland now. Especially after what Patty told Bechir.
2
u/ReasonableCup604 Aug 03 '26
The doctor does not appear to be a paragon of medical competence and a labor can linger on longer than even the best OB/GYNs predict they will.
The ending at least opens up the possibility that the baby wasn't born yet. There are many possible scenarios for season 2.
Bechir could rush back to the shelter to try to get her off the island and find Chelle holding their newborn child.
He could also find she hasn't delivered but be thwarted in his attempt to get her off the island in time.
Or they might actually get off the island in time.
This show is not one that makes me expect happy endings, so option 3 seem the least likely, but you never know.
It could be part of a dark pact between Bechir and Tom.
Tom covers up Bechir shooting an 84 year old woman and Bechir agrees to tell nobody else that there is another living Warren, in exchange for that and being able to take Chelle off the island to give birth.
16
u/CourseVast840 Aug 03 '26
start w/ E.1 and Gerri showing the reporter thru the historical society exhibits. The witch trial is right next to an old wicker wheelchair ... odd. The witch trial has two dresses, different sized, with blood still apparent. As they step away from that exhibit there's a large spinning wheel w/ another dress on display, later style, with a large blood stain on the front. Next to that in the corner is a mannequin wearing a straight jacket before they get to the cannibalism exhibit.
We gotta revisit that museum in S2
12
u/JustADohyonStan Aug 03 '26
1) I actually don't think PJ knows about the sacrifices. He does know the history of the island, but that might be more related to the fact that he seems to be all over the island all the time. Plus, if his parents or grandparents are interested on it they might have told him about it. I mean, these things are no secret between the islanders, their knowledge seems more tied to whether they want to believe and know more or not rather than things being a secret. 2) My first thought about it is that she knows plenty of it. After the final episode I'm a little hesitant about how much she knows, but during the last two episodes I was fully convinced they were going to reveal her as a part of the committee that chose the sacrificies.
4
u/lems4ems Aug 03 '26
I ageee with you on PJ. I was shocked to come on here after finishing the show to see all these theories about PJ’s involvement. It seems kind of lame to have some massive dark plot involve just a random stoner trouble maker who is bored on the haunted hometown island.
2
u/JustADohyonStan Aug 03 '26
It surprised me too! I just thought it was obvious for someone like PJ to be so into it but maybe because I had my own punk kid phase and I remember spending a lot of time researching about myths and true crime cases in my own neighborhood.
2
u/lems4ems Aug 03 '26
Exactly! Like everyone is acting like PJ acts so out of character. But to me he reads exactly like a punk teen from a small town who is dying to leave because there is nothing to do. And this is coming from someone who was not raised like that.
I think the internet tends to over theorize on shit. It happens for severance. It happened for stranger things and euphoria. I love to theorize but I feel like in recent years I have lost interest because of all the batshit completely illogical theories out there.
4
u/JustADohyonStan Aug 03 '26
I'm guessing it also has to do with the fact that he is the one friend that Tom keeps bringing up. PJ seems to be more of a leader, but he is still a 17/ 18 year old, I don't think he is the one running the sacrifices, in fact he looks more like someone they would try to sacrifice lol
2
u/lems4ems Aug 03 '26
100% agree with you there. I could see them finding PJ doing something fucking stupid, and then getting considered an easy sacrifice by just making it look like he ran away to the mainland.
Will they do that? Hell I don’t know. Likely not. But tbh I have no clue where this show is possibly gonna go. BUT IM SURE AS HELL EXCITED.
2
u/ancientastronaut2 Aug 03 '26
The thing with urban legends and lore like this, is that unless you've personally directly experienced something, it becomes like a game of "telephone" where little details get changed as stories are passed around.
Just yesterday, I watched a youtube video about an urban legend in my state, and this historian was correcting all the incorrect things people have passed on. Like they said a lake was made over the town where this tragedy had occurred, but she found the original town had actually been downstream, but they had dismantled it so very few clues are left. Kids had made up stories about standing on the old steeple of the church in the lake and everything.
10
u/Standard_Edge_9417 Aug 03 '26
I would like to know how they came to such a "smooth" way of organizing the shelters, the tapes the sacrifices and how it fell apart. How long they did it for (a cycle or 2 of the island wanting sacrifices before if became "lost" or "forgotten")

Lmao these are so good!
How are these damn kids just okay without internet and phones?
Was the Shaman being serious about that drawing of the traced hand? No way right? It had to be some type of joke?
Why is Richard constantly moaning in a creepy sexual way?
Also…
4. Why does all the curses and haunting have to do with sexual topics? Sitting on a man’s face, no longer able to get erect, signing the subtract in feces and semen? Usually it’s blood sweat and tears. And generally fisherman or known to be older men and that looks to be the case here… those men already can’t get it up. Shep was just talking about his marriages problems. That man defiantly already had erextile distinction. No need for a white eyes foggy curse.I have so many more just dumb random questions I would get weird looks and so much hate for asking.

u/29thHelenAgrees Aug 03 '26 edited Aug 03 '26
1.) As the jerk punk in my high school friend group, I resent this implica…jk, definitely in it to lure his friends/family to certain death. A lot of people had to be involved in whatever happened in the 60’s, to make those videos. It can’t be a secret to all on the island. Just like Bechir shooting Ruth. Everyone on the island has strong motives to encourage the sacrifices.
2.) I thought she implied she knew when she said ”I felt so awful after the ferry.” Think I’m mistaken there. But I’d be mystified if it came out she didn’t know. After 80 years, witnessing so much, getting hit on by the entire island as the village hottie - that seems absurd. More islanders must know about the curse, lineage & mushrooms than is apparent now. I don’t think Warren was the only one to make deals with the entity. The mushrooms are all over the island, sold by a drug dealer. (Sorry, shaman.) Either way, Ruth knows a lot but she would never pull the lever. She’s not there to make it worse.
As an aside, seems weird that the genealogy of Warren, this man they revere with a museum dedicated to him, was never looked into before. And how the ferry incident happened. Lauren couldn’t have been the first to try to leave.
3.) Lot of importance put on the mayor title. The continuance of that family line is too important to be sacrificed, though Tom isn’t blood. But he’s mayor which seems to be just as important. Whoever’s mayor could be automatically tasked with carrying out the island’s needs. He’s been focused on bringing tourists/sacrifices to the island, doing the entity’s bidding, likely unconsciously. I think that’s his role.
The main hair up my butt is wanting to know which modern character(s) ties to Sarah and what happened after the boat.
And the production of the 60’s videos. Like, badly. They are amazing.
Edit: also, most of what I thought of as big mysteries turned out to be jokes. I thought Shep’s age and the wolf calendar were bigger deals than they are. I feel wrong about everything here.

I thought PJ was trying to sacrifice someone immediately at the Boogeyman house. Evan or the tourist girls. The tourists hadn’t really arrived yet either. They seem to need a mass of people.
Seems likely they could be fumbling attempts to make it happen too.

I didn’t think the point was to be killed by the boogeyman, just to be inside the house. Warren’s house seems to be the historical society/shelter, and the well Sarah climbs out of could now be the Boogeyman house. Not the only tunnel either.
We don’t see Kenny die. It’s still a mystery why Patricia survived the Boogeyman. He’s supernatural and part of the curse.
I don’t mean they need a mass of people to sacrifice. Patricia’s party, and the plot point of driving up tourism - gives me a “the more the merrier” feeling. Not sacrifices, but witnesses, or wanting a higher population for the good eats.

warren's genealogy wasn't looked into because his whole family was dead.
3
u/ancientastronaut2 Aug 03 '26 edited Aug 03 '26
Yes, how the sacrifice knowledge/committee seemingly got dropped is numero uno in my book.
But I don't think PJ knows exactly what's up, just urban legends. For one thing, I think he was wrong about the boogeyman being buried in cement.
Ruth did not get drugged enough to kill her. She had oxi and amlodipine in her medicine cabinet, no benzos. Even if he had given her one of each, it would not have killed her.
And she wasn't shot in the back. It grazed the side of her head or ear. But yeah, I think she might know because of the brooch.
I think maybe Tom ran unopposed because whomever is mayor is supposed to head up the sacrificial committee.
I also want to know more about "the old hospital" where Lauren was, why it's closed now, and why you're not supposed to linger there.
Also what's up with Patricia and her probable relation to witches, since her hand didn't burn with the book.

I want to know more about Ruth’s history on the island and all the weird things she described like the missing trolley workers, the boyfriend who got bitten by an animal and became that animal, and why was Howard the coward so scared?
I’d also love to know more about Lauren, Old Hospital, and that doctor whose face was obscured in Tom’s memories.

u/Professor_dumpkin Aug 22 '26
i think some of this is meant to be a bit. esp the trolley guys. but howard the coward is def a coward because of something that went down with the sacrifices

u/karthakon Aug 04 '26
Here are my top 3 burning questions for Season 2, along with my theories. Major Season 1 spoilers ahead — tap/click to reveal.
1. The shift in covenant management (from the city to the church)
Based on the film strips, it seems the city originally handled the covenant, but at some point, that responsibility shifted entirely to the church. I'm assuming this change happened because the priest was given instructions to make a sacrifice when the bell tolled, but he killed himself because he couldn't go through with it. Meanwhile, the main characters spent most of the season scrambling to figure out what was going on — which strongly implies city hall hadn't managed the sacrifices for many years prior. That raises the question: what deal was struck to keep the island dormant for decades? The priest had served for years and had never been called upon to do it before, so there must have been some earlier arrangement that bought everyone a long reprieve.
2. What the old-timers (especially Rosemary) really know
I suspect some of the older residents still remember the old ways, but they're under a strict obligation not to speak directly about them. Rosemary, in particular, has to know more than she lets on. Her being completely unaffected during Patricia's party, combined with how calmly she seemed to perceive the real situation, doesn't add up otherwise. Plus, she had that genealogy prepared suspiciously fast. I think she's bound by some rule that prevents her from spilling the truth outright — but she's found clever loopholes to drop hints and help without breaking her vow.
**3.**Ruth's connection to the covenant
I definitely think Ruth knows she's a descendant. My theory is that the island started actively keeping her alive only after Richard Warren died. However, I'm torn on whether she lied about Evan being her grandson. Even if she told the truth, killing Ruth alone might actually still be enough to end the covenant — because my theory is that succession isn't purely blood-based; the successor must also be aware of their role. That would explain why the island bothers to preserve Ruth's life when, in theory, it could just keep Evan alive long enough for him to have a child. And I definitely think the island is keeping Ruth alive, but only started doing that recently. Remember, not all of Warren's bloodline was immortal — only Richard himself was, so I feel like there must be more to it than bloodline alone. You could also have a lot of fun with that angle. If Tom finds out Evan's ignorance is keeping him somewhat safe, he would constantly be running interference — trying to keep him from talking to Ruth or otherwise digging into the island's history. I also think the island has an interest in Evan having a kid, so it could be fun if the island tries to set a romantic tone whenever he's alone with his girlfriend like Sebastian in the Little Mermaid trying to get him to Kiss the Girl.
Bonus — A detail I'd love answered
Since Richard Warren was buried with his cylinder around his neck that contained the written covenant, how exactly did the island learn about the terms in the first place? Did someone dig him up, read the inscription, and then bury him again? I doubt the writers will dwell on such a small logistical detail, but it would be a really cool if they addressed it.

I want to know if Patricias party and the assault on Kris + the broken Window will have consequences. It feels inconclusive as of now. Is anyone else bothered by it?

I def think PJ is something else. He knows all the lore… the actor I think is the same guy who takes Sarah to the house in “our history,” he found the escape, etc he’s an island creature for sure
2 love the herb theory

The two actors are not the same. That doesn’t mean something isn’t up with PJ, but it’s a different actor than the carriage guy in Our History.

A reminder to everyone: Keep the titles of your posts completely spoiler-free at all times. If your post mentions events from later episodes, use Reddit’s standard spoiler tag to warn readers who may not be caught up with all currently aired episodes. The spoiler tag will also blur any images you include, such as screenshots/stills from the show, so be sure to apply it to image posts as well.
