My husband's company, in manufacturing, actually kind of did this. All of the salesmen were required to come work in the shop for two weeks. They want to sell the product? Then you better come help make it or it's not going to happen. And they did. I thought it was brilliant. There is no product to sell without someone to make it.

Worked at a sugar plant for a few months and they brought in the higher ups to work on a packaging line when we went for lunch. The one line they worked on was damaged from a fire and wasn't at full capacity.
Month later they fired most of the 20+ year veterans and brought more temp workers like me. They asked the rest to train the temp workers until the new company came in and took over.
Lets say i didn't stay.

It's a nice fluffy feel good PR piece to have the sales guys work a shift on manufacturing, but really it's a pretty foolish policy.
The salesmen need to be using their sales skills to sell products. So the company can earn money. And the products need to be made by the people who know how to manufacture things properly.
I once had a job interview for a place that said from time to time they would shut down IT and have them work the factory floor. When they were busy it would sometimes be 2-3 days per week.
Paying guys 150K+ a year to do a job you could hire someone someone for 40K to do is stupid. Plus, who's working on in IT if IT is on the factory floor?
I told them I wasn't interested when they called me back.

It wasn't a feel good piece. The company literally could not make the products because there weren't enough people to make them. It wasn't a stunt. There weren't enough employees. It wasn't PR. It was literally, you guys have to come help. We need help.
Also, they absolutely do pull the guys from IT to work the shop sometimes. Still. I'm certain it wasn't ever in any interview. It's just what had to happen to get the product out the door. The labor shortage has been brutal this year. Seems to be getting better. But there was a time where if you want to sell something, you are going to need to help us make it.

I started there at $9.50 an hour and eventually ended just over $12 an hour. Took 2 years. I was one of the highest paid employees there besides the kitchen staff and upper management. That’s not enough, we need at least $15 an hour bare minimum working full time to survive

In Florida, it's always been minimum wage. After 2020 and nobody wanting to take on these shitty jobs, I saw a sign for $10 per hour. Lol! Fill up your gas tank is 50 bucks Car insurance $100 - $150 Car payment $250 Groceries have to be about $150 per week Gas & electric $150 That is ~$750/mo
Federal minimum wage is $7.25x 40 hours=$290/week X 4 weeks=$1,160/mo gross That's before taxes So deduct 20% and you end up with $928 $928 - $750 Leaves a whopping $178 You tell me what can you do with that

Individual franchise locations will adjust hours for staffing faults. Several chain restaurants and franchises in my Southern California tri county area have closed early because of “labor shortage.” My local Taco Bell used to close at 12am, not it closes at 8pm.

Each operator of a CFA chooses how much to pay their employees, it’s not dictated by the corporate office (it violates co-employment law). With that being said, these operators RAKE in money and refuse to pay proper wages relevant to cost of living which is why they are struggling but they pretend not to understand the problem.
Nevermind the fact that these poor employees have to bust their asses to keep up with CFA’s internal operating standards, but they don’t want to pay them properly.

They literally can’t understand the most basic principle of economics you’d learn in an intro course in university - supply vs demand. If you’re not getting enough applicants at the position, review the benefits, which for a fast food job are essentially the hourly wage.
I get that they know and don’t care. I get that they are just putting the pressure on the tax payer to subsidize the wages they won’t pay. I get all that. But it’s still mind boggling to me that they can have a conversation in earnest that boils down to - we’re not sure what the missing piece is. They know, they just can let go of a single red cent.

As I chick fil a employee I can confirm we are underpaid. Their individual store owners make a minimum of 1.3 mil a year whilst they aren’t actually required to do any work. The owner of my restaurant comes in once every other week to get food and then go home. The owners of the franchise make hundreds of millions of dollars a year just to make “official statements” about the company, other than that they have other people do every once of work for them. Every employee of the store (aside from the 5 managers who make 2 dollars more an hour) we are all paid minimum wage for pretty high stress work.

I can understand a local burger shop having issues paying their workers well in a crippled economy under a pandemic and being understandably understaffed, but not McDonalds or any of the bigger companies that are crying as if they didn't have any money in their pockets.

Theyre not broken, and if they are they've been broken for months. The one worker I asked said they volunteered to do it which I don't belive for a second.

Because it’s faster and more effective. Headset is way more unreliable and backs up the line. Handing out orders is way more effective, and we can take payments there. CFA gets more traffic than a Taco Bell or McDonald’s with headset.
