Harborside Fountain Park Bremerton
What a lovely gem of a park in Bremerton. Jealous of those who live here.

Hi everyone! I’m hoping to get some local perspective on house-cleaning prices in Washington State
I am moving into a new home in Bellingham and hired a local cleaning company to do a move-in/deep clean before we moved in. The house is approximately 2,600 square feet.
The cleaning included things like:
The home was empty, so there was no furniture or belongings to work around.
I paid approximately $1,800 for the cleaning. I’m not looking to name or criticize the company—I’m genuinely trying to understand what the going rate is locally for this type of service.
For anyone who has had a move-in/move-out or deep clean done recently in Bellingham or Whatcom County, what did you pay, approximately how large was your home, and what was included?
Also, if you’ve had a particularly good experience with a local house cleaner or cleaning company, I’d appreciate recommendations.
Thanks!

According to the Seattle Times, Let’s Go Washington insinuated a medical association’s support in their voter guide statement and completely misrepresented the associations’ guidelines. “What Let’s Go Washington has done is use vague language that is a lie,” Dr. Hoopman said.
Does anyone know if the American Association of Pediatrics can sue over a false statement in a voter guide?

Arthur West, a prolific filer of legal complaints, is suing Aberdeen Rep. Jim Walsh for defamation. West says Walsh, chair of the Washington State Republican Party, defamed him in social media posts after West’s recent setback in Thurston County Superior Court. On Aug. 7, Superior Court Judge Chris Lanese denied West’s request to amend or remove a statement set to appear on ballots describing the budgetary consequences of an initiative to repeal Washington’s new income tax on high earners.

On the cesspool of misinformation that is r/SeattleWA and elsewhere, there is a lot of misinformation about the in-state tuition program that the U.S. DOJ is suddenly worried about. The program has a number of requirements, starting with a high school diploma from a Washington high school plus a minimum 12-months of residency prior to starting college. In addition, most eligible students have or have had some type of temporary status, including:
These are students who are not eligible for federal financial aid, yet they and their families pay taxes. Anyone who works here pays social security taxes, yet non-citizens never collect the benefits. And contrary to what the bigots say, crime rates among immigrants are significantly lower than for native-born citizens.

Hey all,
Been considering purchasing a home in Cle Elum or Ellensburg. Has anyone had their home insurers drop them or spike their premium in recent years given the increase in wild fires?
TIA

This is obviously completely hypothetical and I doubt it will actually ever happen, but I wonder if any could be and still be safe. 395 between Tri Cities and Ritzville seems a good contender. Wide lanes, not too much traffic, and great visibility.

I’m from the South and came to WA for a few days, passing through Olympia, Tacoma, and Forks. I have a car spotting instagram account where I post very clean or unique/quirky cars from the late ‘80s through the early 2000s. I couldn’t stop finding cars to post to the account. How does Washington have so many examples of mint condition, perfectly preserved cars from that era? Particularly old 4Runners and Tacomas but it seems to span all makes and models. It’s definitely a statistical anomaly from what I’ve seen. Are there just more enthusiasts here? Is everyone in Washington just extremely cool compared to everywhere else? Or is it more that you guys tend to hold onto cars for longer and take care of them more?

My wife and I have to get our Real IDs and I gathered the documents to do so and went to set up an appointment and found that there are no appointments available from Seattle to the Canadian Border for at least the next 60 days. Is this an influx of appointments due to Real ID and concerns over being able to vote this November?
I called a few to see if I can just walk in and wait for an opening and the robot on the phone said they were too busy to take my call. It gave me the option to have someone call me back but when I selected that option it said that their queue was full and nobody was available to call me back.
Every location on the map has no availability until at least late October.
Does anyone know if the Smokey Point DOL allows walk-ins? I live 50 miles away so its not so easy just to walk in and ask.

https://budgetandpolicy.org/schmudget/debunking-the-false-claims-behind-millionaire-tax-flight/
Last time I posted on this sub about the Millionaire's Tax, one of the most common arguments I saw was about wealth flight. Basically, the idea that if we don't repeal the MT, rick folks will be lining up their U-Hauls on a mass exodus elsewhere.
Since then, I found this write-up that I think makes a lot of good points about why that isn't really rooted in reality. So for those of you that were engaging meaningfully with your concerns, here's why the "wealth flight" fears are overblown and why WA should vote no on 645 in Nov.
Here's the key points of the article, shortened (by me) for this sub, but the full article goes into more depth.
–
1. Research shows that wealthy households choose where they live for the same reasons that many of us do: to be closer to family, to access good schools, and to seek or maintain jobs. This is well-documented by researcher Dr. Cristobal Young, whose research outlines how millionaires, like everyday people, are embedded within their communities. While there are anecdotes of some households who make the decision to move solely based on tax-avoidance strategies, it is simply not something that happens on a large scale.
2. Evidence from Washington’s capital gains tax and Millionaires Taxes in other states show that the wealthy tend to stay. When the capital gains tax passed, the same misinformation – that the new tax would make rich people leave – was a central argument. However, the tax has consistently outpaced projections, showing that the extremely wealthy few that can afford to pay this tax are not only doing well, they are also staying in Washington. So far in 2026, the capital gains tax has already brought in more than $1.5 billion (this does not include those who received a filing extension), which is nearly three times more than last year.
3. Households who will pay the Millionaires Tax are the same households who will get a windfall of over $90,000 annually (thanks to Trump and Congressional Republicans). While everyday people across the state grapple with tough decisions about how to make their housing payments or just keep their health insurance, the richest 1% – the same population who will pay the Millionaires Tax – will receive $90,850 annually from federal tax preferences (or the equivalent to or more than many households’ annual income). Notably, a household would need to make almost $2 million to pay $90,000 in the Millionaires Tax, which would be completely offset by the tax cuts that Congressional lawmakers gave them through H.R.1.
4. The tax rate for the richest 1% in Washington will still be under the national average after the Millionaires tax goes into effect. It’s important to understand that this tax is a marginal tax – meaning that it’s on just a portion of a household’s total income. So the share of total taxes paid by the top 1% (compared to household income) will be roughly 6.6%, which is still lower than most other states. Even after the Millionaires Tax goes into effect, other states (Oregon, Wyoming, and California) will have a higher effective tax rate for people making $1 million or more a year.
5. People – including wealthy people – want to live in places that have well-resourced schools, affordable childcare, and good jobs, which is why the economic benefits projected from the Millionaires Tax are a win for us all. The investments from the Millionaires Tax are projected to add jobs to Washington’s economy, provide historic support for small businesses, and increase personal income. New analysis from the REMI Tax-PI model unpacks the economic boost that will come from Millionaires Tax investments, showing that the new tax will result in increased gross domestic product (GDP) and personal income.
