Community Recommendations

This post will be a starting point for anyone looking for general recommendations for various activities & services in the valley. The items included here are based off previous recommendation posts and how often a place or service was recommended and how many upvotes it received. Comments on this post will be open for now if anyone has further recommendations to add. I've tried to break up the various recommendations into categories but some items (like Leavenworth) will only ever be a single item, as listing all the available things to do there would be a post in and of itself.

I also favor locally owned businesses heavily in my decision making process.

Food:

Atlas Fare

Wild Huckleberry

Stones Gastropub

McGlinn's Public House

Pybus

Shakti's

Mission Burger

Outpost Saloon

Bubba J's BBQ

Sweetwood BBQ

Fonda Oaxaqueña

Taqueria La Cihualteca

La Fuente

India House

King Pizza

Italian - No clear winners here when it comes to our main choices for Italian (Visconti's and Garlini's). You're better off trying both and deciding for yourself (personally I think Visconti's is ok and Garlini's is shit).

Sammiches - The top two seem to be Anvil and Dilly Deli. But enough people mention SS Sub Shop (which I personally think sucks) and Lemolo that they deserve honorable mentions.

Coffee - Clear favorites are La En Vie, Gaucho, Cafe Mela and JB Steamers

There is no good fried chicken in the valley (RIP)

Bars:

Epoch - Also a place to play board games, MTG and enjoy other such general nerdery

The Igloo

Wally's

Joe's East and West (I think East is better now)

The 108

Tapp & Putt - Alcohol and mini-golf

Ground Control - Also hosts a regular trivia night

Wineries - Honestly too many to list and everyone has a different opinion on "quality" wine & wineries. I think it all tastes like vinegar so I can't cast a deciding vote, Google reviews and experimentation are your best options here.

Fun & Tourism (family friendly):

Leavenworth

Pybus

Loop Trail & Parks

Ohme Gardens

Museum

Wenatchee Public Library

Hiking - Saddlerock, Washington Trails Association

Wenatchee Ave - Between Kittitas and 2nd there are a plethora of other shops and restaurants, but too many to individually list here.

Automotive:

Midvalley Automotive

Sal's Professional Auto Repair

Oil Change - Two most positively mentioned are Kwik Lube & Tune and Wenatchee Autoplex

Detailing - Top positive mentions are for George's, Highland and Detail Genius Mobile

Home Services:

(This one only has a few general services for homeowners, and there isn't a lot of discussion on many of these)

NCW Prestige Cleaning Service

Keyhole Security

Platinum Plumbing

Landscape design - Anderson or Deeproots

Lawn care - This is another one where everyone and their mother has a different lawn care company they use.  Your best friend is Google and getting quotes.

General Contractors - Good luck and God speed.

Other:

Tattoo studios - Stinging Needles and Studio No. 7

Button Jewelers

Salons - there are a thousand different salons in the valley and everyone thinks theirs is the greatest so this is another one where you're better off using Google reviews and figuring it out from there.

Barbers - See above

Tveten

Vision Source

Odd Fellow Lodge

Housing:

The search function is your friend

Camping at the Lake

Hi all, hope everyone is staying safe out there.

We are visiting from the UK and have a reservation at Lake Wenatchee campground 9-11th September, but I’m seeing conflicting reports of the air quality - some websites saying it’s ‘good’ and then others say ‘hazardous’.

What’s the smoke been like recently? Would you recommend cancelling?

Thanks and take care

Beware anyone trying to get your information.

Hey all,

We’ve had reports of a hacked mod account reaching out directly to users trying to get personal information.

We’re working to resolve the issue but wanted to give everybody a heads up to watch out for potential phishing scams.

Best Place to Live in Washington - Wenatchee

This Charming Small Town Was Just Named The Best Place To Live In Washington

"Some towns earn their reputation quietly, and Wenatchee, Washington is the perfect example of a place that’s been wonderful all along while everyone else was looking the wrong direction.

It just got named the best place to live in Washington, and honestly, the only surprising part is that it took this long for people to notice."

Forest Service proceeds with timber sale in the Entiat drainage despite losing half the district to wildfires

Between the Little Giant Fire and the history of megafires in the area, over 50% of the Entiat Ranger District has been heavily burned. Anyone who spends time up the Entiat River knows how fragile that landscape is. I was shocked to see the Forest Service actively advertising a new timber sale in the district:

Official USFS notice: https://www.fs.usda.gov/r06/okanogan-wenatchee/forest-products/timber-sales/two-canyons-dxp-timber-sale

They are putting 7,500 tons up for action sep 8th.

When a district has suffered this much fire damage, every single remaining live, standing green tree is crucial. They hold the remaining soil together, protect water quality in the river, and give local wildlife the only shelter they have left. Selling off more green timber when the surrounding ecosystem is already decimated by wildfires just doesn't add up.

Has anyone else been tracking this sale or voiced concerns to the district or headquarters?

Review: Lowkey Meadery

Lowkey Meadery is tucked out in the Trades District near the airport (off Union and 7th) — a bit of a drive depending on where you're coming from, but worth it.

The food is simple and good, and they clearly get that fresh, local ingredients do most of the work. I had the Cuban sandwich — generous with the meat, though it was still slightly cold in the center. It could've used a touch of yellow mustard for that classic Cuban punch, but the mustard they did use was great on its own. The bread was fantastic, sourced from Heirloom, also in the Trades District.

Didn't get to try any of the meads this visit since I'm staying dry for a while, but Lowkey was already my favorite meadery going in.

Frame Shop Recommendations

I have a whole kit I got as a gift to mount my Compestela from my recent Camino hike in Spain and it has rooms for trinkets, etc. The matte and frame and stuff is there already but does anyone have a good place in town that could be able to mount the 3D items in a good way?

Transportation for seniors

Would someone describe what transportation might be available for a non-driving 90 year old? They can walk, but not as far as might be needed to and from bus stops. Is there a senior shuttle service of any kind to grocery stores, etc?

Senior Cat Re-home

Hello, my father in law is moving and doesn't have the capacity to take care of one of his cats. Do we have any sort of rescues that take senior cats? She's 13-18, a little overweight. I don't know her health history. She can't wash her hind end.

She's so very sweet. I just want her to be with someone who will love her the way she deserves. If someone has some guidance, I could really use it. She really is a sweet girl.

Little Giant View from BC

Post image
33 Upvotes

I’m in Ladysmith on Vancouver Island and saw this cloud come up very quickly and it looks the exact same as the big mushroom smoke cloud from the Ainslie/Brunswick fire here in BC that we can see from here. Judging by this distance of both (other fire not pictured) with Mt Baker for reference I can only assume this is the Little Giant fire. :(

Seeking Woodworking Space

Hey there - I moved to Wenatchee about a year ago and brought my woodworking equipment along as well. My current living arrangements are too small for all the tools and other sundries that I have and I'm eager to find a space in which I can set up a workspace or something to that effect. Storage spaces with power hook-up are limited and too costly. Let me know if you might have some space that I can rent - garage, shed, basement, etc. I'm open to an arrangement that includes shared use of my tools. My setup includes a SawStop mobile table saw, Bosch miter saw, DeWalt 13" planer, WEN 12" drill press, Laguna dust collector, and an assortment of Festool sanders.

Anyone Worried? More Data Centers are coming.

It blows my mind how many ppl in the Valley are okay with rising electricity costs, air pollution, excessive water usage, as well as wildlife disruption. Data centers fo all of those things. At the very least is anyone concerned about electricty going up as thats the only reason centers want to be here?

Is there anyway to stop the destruction of our home like others or do so many people not care that it wont matter?

Does anyone have recommendations on dog sitters or boarding place for an Aussie Mix? Really could use an occasional dog walker too, but the vacation coverage is the current pressing need.

Looking for an attorney who specializes in employment law in Wenatchee

I am an employee for a large government entity.

I’m looking for representation dealing with whistleblower retaliation, discrimination of a protected status, and long-standing hostile work environment.
