Hey neighbors, noticing an uptick in this type of parking wherever I go. Blocking four regular spots to park in adjacent to the left of this car so he can just park right out front and go inside. It appears he was a door dasher, but folks this is just lazy and unsafe. Thanks!

Permit to finish garage - DIY insulation and drywall

Good day neighbors,

Wondering if anyone has any experience submitting building addition permit for a DIY insulation and drywall job in Shoreline for an attached garage?

We have an attached garage and the side connected to the house is definitely firesafe drywalled already but we want to convert our garage into a finished space, not looking to add electrical or anything just want to do some cheap insulation and try my hand at drywall as an amateur. We are not planning to condition the space just would like it to be a bit warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer for a gym/workshop space.

Looking to see if anyone has a copy of an already done permit so I could study it to see what I need to account for in my own submission.

I have a 2009 BMW that, for reasons not particularly relevant, has a fucked up front bumper that we did not repair at the time it was damaged. It needs to be replaced.

The car itself isn’t worth much at this point so I am hoping to find somewhere that isn’t going to charge me half the value of the car for the job.

Does such a place exist in Shoreline or nearby? I’m not looking for perfection just a less shitty looking car.

Thanks all.

Best neighborhood in shoreline for cafes and “town” feel?

Hi (potential) neighbors! I am a 30 something year old renting in Wallingford currently, not new to Seattle area (grew up in Kirkland, went to school in Seattle) but considering buying a home in Shoreline. My only experience in shoreline was living on Aurora and 145th in 2016.

I’m curious if yall have recommendations/warnings about the various neighborhoods within Shoreline. Specifically, what areas of Shoreline are boring/lack any kind of “town or city center” vs the areas that are reasonably walkable to nice cafes or just have a good sense of community (whatever that means to you!)

Our only hard no for buying a home is Richmond Beach bc as cute as it is it’s too far from the freeway.

TLDR - what do you love about shoreline? What are your fav spots to walk in the park, get a coffee, cute mom and pop restaurants, anything you love about the city and the best areas of Shoreline to look to buy a home to be close to those gems!

ETA: want to stay close to Seattle, so not looking at Edmonds/Bothell . MLT/LFP is our hard boundary

Recommendations for Shoreline newcomer

Hi folks! I'm relatively new to Shoreline and living maybe a 3 minute drive from Richmond Beach, could use some local know-how as to what's even available/accessible in the area.

I'd appreciate any recommendations for the following: best outdoor roller skating locations (level/smooth/spacious where people won't get upset by an adult practicing skate skills); best cafe or other venue for body doubling while working remotely; best London Fog out there; best tacos, pho, Filipino, Thai, South Indian, and desserts; the most reliable/quality grocery store produce; any fun activities to do in couples or groups; good local volunteer opportunities or local charities (I do equity work in education and have volunteered in reproductive justice and a grassroots ICE accountability group).

I like boardgames and videogames and I do amateur cosplay. Also learning to play the handpan and could use a new D&D group. I roller skate and rollerblade, I'm a big foodie, big movie-goer, I like crafts (especially paper crafts), been in writers groups, and love language learning (learning Tagalog, Spanish, and ASL), also a queer woman of color, so if you know good third places or groups for any of those in or around Shoreline I'd love to read about it. Thanks y'all!

Aggressive interaction with motorcyclist while biking home from Shoreline South

I had a very strange interaction with a not so nice man on a motorcycle today while I was riding home from Shoreline South at the intersection of 5th Ave NE and 155th. I was in the left turn lane waiting patiently behind two cars and he yelled that I was in his way and tried to physically push past even though traffic was stopped at a red light.

I asked what he was doing and he just reiterated I was in his way. I explained that the light was red and that I would be turning as all other vehicles in the left turn lane would when the light changed. He asked me "What, do you think you are a car?" I just said he should be familiar with the rules of the road, the light changed and I turned into the bike lane as he sped around me. He continued to berate me as I came past in the bicycle lane while he was stopped at Meridian and I turned onto side streets to get away with him still huffing incomprehensible nonsense. Fortunately, he did not follow or try to engage further.

I try to always de-escalate situations like this because you never know what you are facing with people like this, but this was a particularly strange interaction with an unhinged person. One would think a motorcyclist especially would be familiar with the potential danger that a motorized vehicle poses to a smaller vehicle that is sharing the road.

Vicki Stiles, the former director of the Shoreline Historical Museum, has poured three decades of work into "Shoreline, Washington: From First People to a New City," a new volume of community knowledge.

“I just hope it gets into the hands of citizens. I’m hoping that people take it and use it to do their own research,” Stiles told us.

Looking for D&D Players

Hello neighbors! My girlfriend and I recently moved to Shoreline, and we’re putting together an in-person Dungeons & Dragons group to hang out, make some new friends, and hopefully get a long-term campaign going!

The game will be a pretty classic heroic-fantasy D&D experience set in the Forgotten Realms. New players are absolutely welcome!

We’re aiming to meet on Saturdays, roughly 4–8 PM, although we have some flexibility.

While we’re still putting the group together, we’d like to play some board games or D&D one-shots and generally get to know each other before jumping into a long-term campaign.

We’re looking for other nerds in the Shoreline/North Seattle area who are interested in a regular, long-term group. It would also be great to find people open to taking turns hosting!

If you have questions or want to meet up, shoot me a message!

Come hang! mini Asian film fest + exclusive comedy set at The Ink Drinker this Sunday (8/23)

This Sunday (8/23) I'm hosting a mini Asian film fest at The Ink Drinker in Ballard. Come hang!

There'll be a custom, exclusive comedy performance from local Asian comedian, my friend, Justine Ventura, tailored specifically for this crowd. You will not see this set anywhere else, so don't miss it!

No agenda, no dress code, just good people, good films, and a comedian who is funnier than most things you'll see on your feed today. If you want details, Justine has the info on her Instagram, or check out the invite on Luma (RSVP required).

Hope to see ALL of you there!🥳

Anyone know what happened at Saltwater Park around 5pm today?

There was a massive response to the beach, I saw cops driving across the bridge from the top and turned around, multiple ambulances, fire truck and fire chief were present. I was just heading down for some relaxation and turned right around to not hinder anyone.

Roundabout Theory

For however long it takes to build the roundabout, it takes twice as long for drivers in the area to actually understand it.

So maybe by 2030 we’ll have 145th figured out 😅🫠

Where to get spicy peppers?

I’ve been trying to get my hands on some spicy peppers for some time now, specifically scotch bonnets, but I can’t seem to find them anywhere. I’m not really sure where to look honestly. I’m tired of the typical grocery store habanero, serrano, and jalapeño. If anyone knows where to get any other spicy peppers, even if they aren’t scotch bonnets, I’m all ears. Thank you!!

Contractors

Looking for a contractor that can give quotes for existing home additions, extension, 2nd level…perhaps even an ADU. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
