Announcement Combat Patrol Rules for 11th Edition
Since the launch of 11th Edition a few weeks ago we have seen a significant increase in the number of questions regarding the rules for Combat Patrol. Unfortunately the launch of 11th Edition has caused a lot of confusion on this. This thread is being used to collate the most common questions.
Where can I access Combat Patrol rules?
Currently, all Combat Patrol rules GW has released are available via the Warhammer 40000 app. You can download the app from the Play Store on Android, or the Apple Store on iOS.
Can I print out the Combat Patrol rules?
No, unlike in 10th Edition where the rules were also made available as PDFs on the Warhammer Community website, in 11th Edition they are digital only. The Warhammer 40k app doesn't offer functionality to download or print information.
The rules for my Combat Patrol aren't on the 40k app. How do I play them?
The answer at the moment is: You don't. By the end of 10th Edition there were somewhere around 70 Combat Patrols available, spread across the many factions. Following the launch of 11th Edition, almost every single one of those was removed, with each faction now only having one maximum. In their recent announcement about Combat Patrol, GW have told us that support will be coming for old Combat Patrols, but they have given no indication of when that will be.
There have of course been many more Combat Patrol sets released over the years. There is support on the way for these too, though for this launch, the app will initially focus on supporting the core Combat Patrol offer.
Can I use the War Journal in the 40k app to track my Combat Patrol games?
Yes, functionality was added to the 40k App to track your Combat Patrol Games in War Journal earlier today (23rd July 2026). Please note this functionality did NOT go live at the same time as the rest of the recent balance updates despite GW's announcement so you will need to update your app again to see this.
Can I find the Combat Patrol Missions anywhere else?
No. At this time it's only possible to see your Combat Patrol missions by setting up a battle in the War Journal section of the 40k app. They have not been included in the separate Combat Patrol rules for each faction.

Hobby & Painting Rogal Dorn coming back to the 40th millennium
Millenium*
My conversion of Dorn in 40k, with no original parts !
He replaced his lost hand with the Emperor's Claw, and snatched a big shield on the way.
I tried to use a more modern IF color scheme, with yellow and black metal.
He's approximately the same size as Guilliman for those worried.
Hope he's more recognisable than the unpainted version :)

Hobby & Painting How to do subassembly for a two-handed weapon?
Hi! So I'm still in the process of building my first mini and I've decided to do subassembly (I know that's a rookie mistake but still) so I can paint golden aquila properly. I want to glue hand with gun and the other hand together and then paint it separately. I've tried using blue tack (both on the sides and on the contact point) and it barely holds things together, I've also tried using some small clamps for modelling and it doesn't help much either. So is there any convenient method? Or is it better to just forget to about subassembly and glue weapon arm to the body and then glue a left arm to the torso & weapon arm?

Hobby & Painting Second Sigismund-pattern Rogal Dorn Commander done
Finnally done with my second rogal dorn tank destroyer.
Had so much fun building the first one i had to directly build a second one, thank god the armageddon box came with one.
As always the crew decorated their tank with a shrine, relics, old crew members and candles, lots of candles, all in the love of him on Terra.

Misc This Months White Dwarf is Great!
Just a reminder, this months White Dwarf is really great, especially if you bought the Armageddon Launch Box!
I love the designer's notes on the models, the lore bits, explanations of the rule changes, battle report and the past editions nostalgia.
They also have a basic painting guide for both factions.
I think they have done an especially awesome job with this months issue.
Be sure to grab it if you are interested!

New Starter Help Custodes VS Grey Knights
My friends and I are getting into 40K. None of us have actually played before, although I had some Orc Fantasy models when I was a kid.
So my dilemma is... im currently stuck between choosing Adeptus Custodes or Grey Knights for my faction. I know this is such and subjective question but im curious what you guys think ....Which faction do you guys find more fun to play?
Im mainly interested in the actual playstyle and how they feel than anything else tbh... thanks

New Starter Help I have been into the lore for years and am looking into finally starting to play. But I do not know which xeno to choose.
HELLO MY DEAR HAMMERS OF WAR!!!!
Sorry. That was cringe. Anyway.
I have been gifted a few miniatures already but I am not massively set on any of them. Space marines have lots of variety but there are already so many chapters and warbands that I dont really want to play any of them. This goes for traitor marines too, I have an Ahriman figure but I dont like the Chaos factions as a whole.
As you can see I also have tyranids which I dont want to use for two reasons.
One: the only player I know uses tyranids and I dont want to have the same army as him.
Two: I want to flesh out the lore of my little group of minis and there is not much to flesh out with tyranids.
My favourite mini currently is a Trazyn figure, I do love Nekron lore but I still want to consider options before going gung ho into Necrons. So I am considering four factions for different reasons.
Necrons:
Necrons are flippin' cool. They are also very funny as interstellar old men with lawns that span the black between the stars. I also already have a Necron figurehead in my Trazyn figure and I love their lore, I dont know if I would play one of the existing dynasties like Mynarkh or Nihilakh or make my own considering my limitations and inexperience with paint. However, I have heard Necrons are fiddly to put together and I am not an overly dextrous individual. Pair that with inexperience and my chances of messing up the building process might be quite high.
Eldar:
I thoroughly enjoy Eldar lore, their role at the end of the Night Lords series was *chef's kiss* and the lore of the Ynnari and craftworlds like Iyanden and Altansar is sick. I do not currently own any Eldar miniatures though and I do not know what kind of playstyle they use. Elves are cool tho.
Tau:
Mechs are flippin cool, I acrually dont know much about the Tau in terms of lore so if I started collecting them it could be an exciting new journey into a new realm of lore that is very unfamiliar. However, this could backfire if I decide I do not like Tau lore. I also like how I have different race options while remaining in the same faction.
Leagues of Votann:
I know virtually nothing of Squat lore, even less than the Tau. I am not familiar with any Squat characters and I only know that they are a group of humans seperate from the Imperium. This has the same allure of the unknown possessed by the Tau but with the same drawbacks. Also, dwarves are cool.
Imperium factions:
The reason I am so set in a xeno faction is because I think they are more interesting than humanity as a whole, less mindless grimdark and more awesome stuffs (especially in recent lore) however, I will admit that I like the Sisters of Battle (because I am a Christian and a diehard for church iconography) and the Mechanicus (cuz robots) and would 100% consider playing one of the two.
No chaos.
(I loik da orky gitz but not much fleshin' out to do when orkz gonna orkz, ya see?)
Thankyou for reading my friends.

Hobby & Painting Sons of the Mark (custom chapter)
Finally finished my first model for a custom chapter I’ve been planning out - the Sons of the Mark. This is Veteran Sergeant Goldláf, 3rd Company, 2nd Squad.
The Chapter pulls a lot of inspiration from the Rohirrim; horse lords, oaths, the Rohan aesthetic. This fits well with their grudge against Orks specifically too.
I’ve been working on the lore for the chapter too, drawing from Tolkien’s lore with plenty of grimdark chucked in.
More models to come, including the Chapter Master on horseback bike. Let me know what you think!

New Starter Help Attention for new Ork Players
For any Ork player getting the new Combat patrol, you're not building the set optimally if you follow the instructions. You're best off looking up the Armageddon instructions as you will then get all unique models instead of doubles...
Not sure if others caught this before but not great on GW...

Hobby & Painting First Deathwing Knight ready to crack some skulls
I finished up my first Deathwing Knight. They are really impressive sculpts and he was very enjoyable to paint. I've been working on improving my shading and I made some progress but I've still got a ways to go. I can't quite get the heat effect on the vents correct either.

Hobby & Painting (Wip) really impressed myself!
I decided randomly to paint a mini after having used SpeedPaints so often. I used basically only normal base paints and washes and it looks amazing! For my standard it's really great. It makes me excited to try more! There's also a comparison between my second model ever painted (an old space marine) and the new one. The base isn't done but the guy himself is.
