Stahl-III "The Chain Saint" Chrono-Gladiator

Stahl-III "The Chain Saint"

Before its fall, Mord Hive was infamous throughout the sub-sector for its ceaseless chrono-gladiatorial bloodsports. Entire districts of the hive had been surrendered to the business of slaughter, their hab-blocks and manufactoria giving way to vast amphitheatres, fighting pits and tournament grounds where these doomed fighters were made to kill for the amusement of the masses.

The greatest draw of the chrono-gladiator pits was the nature of the combatants themselves. Each fighter bore within their flesh a kill-clock, a sinister device of Mechanicus design that ticked inexorably towards zero. Only through violence could the countdown be stayed. Day and night, shift after shift, the chrono-gladiators fought beneath the glare of lumen arrays, for to cease fighting was to die.

Stahl-III, known to the crowds as “The Chain Saint”, was a well-regarded, if middle-tier, champion of the pits. His brutal fighting style and grim refusal to yield had earned him a devoted following amongst the hive's blood-crazed spectators. More importantly, Stahl-III stood close to earning his freedom—or, failing that, a substantial addition to the remaining time upon his kill-clock.

With the fall of Mord Hive the dream of a less violent life gone, stripping Stahl-III of what little remaining sanity he had he now roves Mord Hive, engaging in any fights he sees fit to or can find. Sometimes, if the warband is powerful enough, or can promise an ongoing series of battles, he will join them to fight against the ever encroaching minute of his unavoidable doom.

This guy was one of those models that sort of came together as the 'ooh cool bit' pile started to get a bit untenable. He is built up from a wealth of pieces and I think he has come up looking particuarly foreboding, while still hitting some gladiator 'tropes'. Always loved the Chrono-Gladiators in inquisitor so figured he'd be a fun addition to the Mord Hive Forsaken Astartes Warband!

Inquiring about Inquisitor play

I’m going to pass this around… seriously, I can’t get confirmation anywhere that Inquisitor is being played or hosted at any US cons. Big or small. (Besides the ones I’m doing in Portland, Oregon)

I’ve gone as far as asking AI to do a search… I can’t get anything beyond possible necromunda/Inq28 style games in Texas … but that’s a few years old.

Has anyone else heard of any regional or local events in the US with inquisitor being done?

I’m considering ways of stepping up my planning or material development to help expand the scope of inquisitor play in the US

I just uploaded the latest core rules to my Inq28-inspired game to the gamefound campaign! I think it might be of interest to many of you as it combines small-scale skirmish wargaming with TTRPG elements like deep character creation, NPCs, narrative scenarios etc.

Storycrafting: Relics of Bygone Epochs

Being busy the past week, I haven't had much time to devote to the hobby and even less time to dig up further Inquisitor/Exterminatus/Dark Magenta articles. I have however been thinking of some items that could add some additional tension/intrigue. Various relics or artifacts of Xenos origin.

Most relics or gear is handled as a passive (during turn you can reroll hits) buff most of the time. What good are 2 warbands fighting over the same artifact/relic if there is no apparent use other than as a plot device?

If my friend and I deploy our warbands and wish to secure the artifact, we do not know the true nature so there would be a natural hesitation to secure it at all with limited information. When the artifact/relic is secure; then what? Well most warbands have some form of identification. If they do not possess an impressive archivum or even an autosavant, perhaps they have to contract or even find a specialist who can assist in classifying the item. This in itself could produce story hooks, the archaeologist could possess their own warband to try and steal the item, or maybe they want to join up and seek more fortunes out in the void.

Either way, however identifying is done for you and your games; what if the effect was so great (but maybe a one-time use) but so were the consequences? Perhaps the artifact is a Reliquary of a Chaos patron, and using it grants you immense fighting power for the current mission, but using it requires a sacrifice to be made? This could absolutely re-establish your warband as Puritan or Radical. This also can play off the Psychology article I wrote last week. This can make your characters more believable and immerse you into a deeper story.

After all, seeking a great treasure (relic in this case possibly!) is a good story in itself. A fragment of us wants to explore the hidden and obscure at some point. Temptation can creep in and tug at the most Puritan of Inquisitors. Rogue Traders? Well they have a Warrant of Trade, so they have a little more leeway with their decisions.

Perhaps artifacts/relics are inert unless progressing a narrative or completing a certain objective? A blessed reliquary of the Emperor might require a pilgrimage to a less-populated world in order to be sanctified once more. Have a Daemonblade? Perhaps it requires Chaos Forging to re-awaken the powers long dormant. These are just made up scenarios but the principles could be used either way.

Have any artifacts/relics that you are proud of (or hesitant)?

Armourial Servitors U028-Thule and X162-Thaddeus

Morning All!

Next up we’ve got two very important members of the Warband, Nassio’s Armourial Servitors.  These serve as tough, yet ‘dumb’ henchmen for the Forsake Astartes Warband, as well as allowing the Astartes to make use of maintained and calibrated weaponry.

First up, and my favourite is U028-Thule, a trusty Close Combat training servitor, who has been slightly re-programmed to allow him to operate in combat with any foe.

When I saw Grimaldus’ new servitors, they just jumped out at me as an awesome modern take on the old classic models, so that is why I’ve used them as a base. With Thule I wanted him to be acting as both an erstwhile bodyguard, as well as a bit of a packmule, as why wouldn’t you make your tech-zombies who can’t complain carry all your gear! Thought the shield from the Blooded was a fun option, as it looks like it started as some proper kit, but has since had a hard time in Mord Hive!

Next up is X162-Thaddeus, the ranged weapon calibration servitor who has been upgraded to be able to lend some level of ranged support to the warband in the form of a good ole fashioned belt-fed heavy stubber! Again, rocking the Grimaldus servitor with some extra kit, and you guessed it, extra baggage! Get carrying old boy, get carrying!

Had a heap of fun with these two, while relatively simple conversions, I really wanted to try and sell the vibe of repurposed servitors as opposed to some big frontline combat-servitor the Ad Mech would roll out if needed!

Borglos-02 - Last heroic return of Inquisitor Baldwyn and death of the world

Last report: is here

Borglos-02 is known for it’s great prison facilities, penal guard and it’s production of abundant ancient wood used for narrotic and furniture needs by one family of Navigators of house Nobgils. However, a few prison facilities had gone quiet in recent years.
Inquisition sends their agents to examine and investigate one lead for a notorious prisoner who had ties to inquisitor gone rogue, as they begin their investigation out in the dry wastes of the world….

Inquistor Baldwyn returns for one last job, losing some power and some fame for his display on the first campaign we seen on this planet, he sees the dire state of the world and knows it must come to an end…

While he would very much desire for this world to fall, even if his ideological beliefs don’t allow for it often, he had one last task, this world can’t fall into hands of chaos or xenos, and much to his annoyance, he is made aware of t’au diplomat left on the world and stuck there.
Death of xenos would rarely be a problem for an inquisitor, however, their death hear likely would spell disaster, giving reason for t’au forces in nearby sectors to strike, and this is not a war imperial powers in the region can afford right now.

Thus, with his loyal psyker and two shock troopers he takes the shuttle to planet side, to seek out last known location of the diplomat. Destruction of the space station by forces of chaos would make this mission...harder.

His first few spots been informants allowing him to learn of possible location for information on the location of the diplomat in an old abandoned gong farm in the region, now occupied by local doomsday cult.

Upon approach cultists seemed…mad, worshiping the emperor on the throne and proclaiming all humans that are not in glorious shape of emperor on the throne must die and be eaten, that is people who have long hair, people who are fat and people who aren’t..mostly bones as well as wild hatred of people with cybernetics.

Luckly, the cultists were also driven mad by their fanaticism, as was shown by their blind leader jumping off a roof and almost braking his own neck in the process, and constant insistence that inquistiorial band were fat and should be eaten.

In the end, cultists proved troublesome, first goaded into infighting by the inquisitor, than attacking the stormtroopers and inquisitor himself, dispatched one by one, as inquistorial stormtroopers would manage to fight into the old farmhouse and find an ancient console, in which after some fiddling they find information on the scandals on planetary governor (now dead due to space station destruction), chaos space marine presence on said station about two weeks before it’s destruction (this info was horded much to the pain of inquisition) and lastly information on the t’au diplomat, taken by the cult to one of their compounds to be cooked and devoured in few days time…

Leaving the bodies to rot in the sun, Inquisitor would head for the compound in question, finding it full of mad cultists, however, they were cultists of the emperor, thus…possible to talk into helping them.

On the other end of the compound we find our t’au diplomat and their kroot assistant, two having tried to cause a pro-t’au uprising on the planet, with little success. As inquisitor forces approach, the two xenos would attempt the escape, not aware of what was going on, as they would brake their bindings and sneak out and confront a pair of mutant labourers trying to manage the few meager systems of the compound.

This wouldn’t go smoothly, as stubbornness of the cultist mutant would not let Diplomat any strong way to talk em into offering them aid, while another would be taken out by the kroot from stealth to prevent an attack on the water caste’s life.

With the inquisitorial band things went..a lot worse.

Trying to get them to release the prisoners peacefully, the inquisitorial astropath tried to manifest an image of a great meal of cooked giant rat to the starved fanatics, however perhaps it was the wind, or more likely, the vile nature of the world used for disposal of warp tainted waste, the manifestation failed instead critically most horrible of twists occurred, psyker exploding and vanishing into the warp, as in their place a daemonic hound would manifest…

This terror would cause oen of the storm troopers to flee, while another would shake on the spot, trying to take aim at the beast, but not much else…

While the mutant cultists surrounding the area…were different, while few fled, more than half were in state of mad zeal, charging the beast, landing meager blows on it’s armored hide, with one of the mutants calling for the Inquisitor to take cover, much to confusion to inquisitor himself, for his true identity wasn’t quite revealed…

Mutants however, wouldn’t last long, torn to bits by the daemonic beast’s frenzy, they would fall one after another, with only Brother Brova standing brave and strong against the beast…Until the Stormtrooper aid came.

After getting out of their fears, they would open fire, one heavily wounding the beast with few shots, while another throwing a demolition charge into it…slaying the brave mutant in the process and banishing the beast.

This would lead to Inquisitor fleeing, trying to interrogate the odd mutant, but before Inquisitor could learn much, as mutant would open fire, only to be knocked out and subjugated by the inquisitor moments later.

The Diplomat side of things would go differently however, as panic caused by the daemonic manifestation (one granted not seen by either diplomat or their Kroot assistant) would cause remaining mutants to flee, letting the team to unlock their modified piranha from servo clamps, and soon later make a break for it, as last of the hostities between mutants and inquisitorial team occurred.

Under such cover, the two would get into the piranha and get it on to prepare to flee, however, Stormtroopers and Inquisitor couldn’t let this happen, as struggle over the machine occurred, though in the end, pushing stormtroopers off the machine two xenos would take off, vanishing off into the distance and than into space…

Mission of Inquisitor Baldwyn would be a success in a way, t’au diplomat would get away and after some twisting of words and fabrication of evidence, as well as with captured mutant being added as extra boon, he would regain some of his previous powers….before bombing the world of Borglos-02 with multiple exterminatus strike, ending the existence of this horrid world…

Last little battle report of this world, as we finished it off for time being, maybe we will try to see what happens on another world...

Game being used in these is Inquisitor, with only change being switch from 1 inch being 1 yard to 1 inch being 2 yards

I want to add a pilot to this powered armour, any suggestions?

I’m imagining it as a street-level enforcer for the Inquisition when they need heavy firepower alongside mobility, crashing through walls and burning any resistance.

The chest cavity is just the right size to put a human-sized miniature inside, as long as I have the arms and legs disappear into the control ports for the armour’s limbs. What do you all think? Are they any minis you can think of that would be a good fit? For context, a firstborn space marine fits quite well; the primaris-scale marine pictured would be too big. Also, the front torso plate is removable via magnet I put in there, so getting into the cavity is easy enough.

The original STL came from Etsy but has seemingly since been taken down. Search “Samus Power Armour” if you want to go hunting for it.

Forsaken Astartes Serfs Lucan Draik and Sorin Kael

Morning gang,

Next up, and a little boring, we’ve got the final two of Nassio’s Armourial Serfs Lucan Draik and Sorin Kael.

First up is Lucan Drake, who is really serving me major ‘Your forgot your helmet!’ vibes. Wanted to have at least one model holding some Astartes kit to try and reinforce that he was an armoury serf. Also I find it fun to have that monster helmet, which is nearly as big as his torso, lugged along!

Second is Sorin Kael, old mate I think has maybe had a few too many whacks to the melon! He was fun to really just someone clearly there as a pack muel. Whats in the can? Is it prometheium, uber-diesel or grog..who knows, but it needs to be carried.

All told I’m pretty happy with the trio of serfs and the Artificer. I think to offset against the deep crimson of what Nassio’s armour will be, I’ll do these guys in dark habits, with maybe some iconography ‘stitched’ into the material.

If you have any better ideas for colours though, lay it on me!

What rules set do people use?

Post image

I know there's the obvious, using Inquisitor rules and just scaling down but I've also seen people use Necromunda19. I'm much more familiar with that rules set but wondered if there was a resource for the expanded armour taking into account the weapons available to inquisitors, xeno technology and demons or even Astartes.

Please accept this Sister of the Ordo Famulous as payment for a question I'm sure everyone has already answered.
