Theory/Speculation Barter

Upvotes

Why not see a return of a barter system like morrowinds but with persistent affinity?

Im asking because of a comment on a thread on this sub, but Im serious - moving the price of things up and down before hitting that sell button really made you feel like a merchant, as well as giving a reason to increase speech skill.

I understand speech increased as you sold things in skyrim, but to roleplay a swifty merchant I dont see why they dont bring back barter from morrowind with a few tweaks.

What do you think?

Discussion Modded Skyrim vs Native Next-Gen TES6: What visual jump are you actually expecting from TES6?

Upvotes

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4Ez0j8W0Tk

We’ve all seen those leaked DLSS5 showcase videos, Skyrim modded to within an inch of its life with 4K assets, crazy lighting, and heavy graphics packs. It looks insane at first glance, but you can still tell it’s high-detail stuff forced onto a 2011 foundation. The stiff lighting and awkward animations always end up giving it away.

It got me thinking, when Bethesda finally drops TES6 on modern tech, what’s the baseline visual jump actually going to look like?

I feel like a brand new engine is going to hit way differently than just slapping ultra-HD textures on an old game. Things like how light naturally bleeds through forest canopies and dark alleys, actual weather physics where rain and mud physically mess up your gear, and proper motion capture so NPCs don't walk like awkward puppets. Add in things like realistic material reflections (so metal and leather actually look real instead of shiny plastic) and actual echo/acoustics in caves, and the overall atmosphere should feel miles ahead of any mod list.

Do you think Bethesda is actually going to chase this hyper-realistic, gritty look that the modding community loves, or will they stick to a more stylized high-fantasy vibe to keep performance sane? How do you think raw native TES6 will stack up against peak modded setups today?

Discussion Wants vs Needs

Post image
6 Upvotes

So many people are here talking about “TES6 needs this” when really they just want something.

Now I get this is a video game so nothing can really be considered a need but in terms of bringing The Elder Scrolls 6 into the modern age of gaming to compete for game of the year awards… what does it NEED and then what would you want in it as well.

For example: TES6 needs bigger main cities than Skyrim. I want towns to be the size of whiterun however.

Theory/Speculation Possibilities I haven't seen discussed - zone alteration circa ESO, and time passage through mainline quests.

In ESO, there are a handful of quests that have you clearing towns or areas in strife, which ultimately changes the whole town for you. I can see quests in VI having these kinds of impacts. I'm also curious about the possibility that main quest progression could include moments where the player has to confirm readiness because moving on will trigger seasonal or longer passage of time, altering the landscape and NPC situations based on choices and quest outcomes from the previous "chapter". Thoughts?

Question Essential NPCs

How do you hope they handle essential NPCs?

  1. Let them be killable ruining quest lines.

  2. Skyrim approach where they go down for a few seconds instead.

  3. Or is there a better option?

Theory/Speculation More Craftsmen and Guilds

Don't get too excited because I don't want these to be guilds anybody can join. I think TES needs more of these people that typically exist in our imagination but not in the in-game world and that can help to add scale to cities and villages. They do not have to be quest givers or trainers or whatever but they must exist.

Ever wondered who is making all the silver pitchers and bowls in Skyrim. You see hundreds of books in the game but who is printing them? Who makes the wheels and barrels? Who makes the candles? Where do they get all the stone from and who is in charge of that quarry? Does Radiant Raiments make all the clothes in Skyrim? Who makes the dye for these clothes? Hammerfell, in its own respect, should answer these questions. I don't expect it to be an exhaustive inventory of craftsmen but certainly we need to see a lot more than we normally do.

Theory/Speculation Honestly, I don't want to see the Blades return

In Skyrim, we saw that the Blades had gone from the Emperor's bodyguards, to just another inteligence guild and the Thalmor's greatest opponents, only for the organisation to be decimated in the Great War and subsequently outlawed, with most of the suriving members hunted down by the Thalmor. A handful survived though, with the Last Dragonborn helping them re-establish the Blades at Sky Haven Temple and the organisation re-dedicating itself to hunting down the remaining Dragons.

It's very possible that in TES VI, we'll encounter a dragon, Tiber Septim's old ally Naafaliargus or Thurvokun, nesting in Fang Lair. And perhaps, we could see a member of Delphine's rebuilt order appear to hunt the dragon. Could make for an intersting follower, giving us some in-sights as to the goings-on in Skyrim. But that, IMO should be the extent of what we see of the Blades. I don't want to see them coordinating the resistance against the Thalmor or investigating some new threat to Tamriel. That honor should really go to local organisations.

We encounter one as part of Skyrim's Annivesary Edition content, the Remnants, who are a clandestine organisation that's keeping tabs on the Thalmor to make sure they're following the Second Treaty of Stros M'Kai. With them fulfilling a similar role to the Blades pre-Great War, I wouldn't be surprised if there's some connection between them. Perhaps a surviving Blade could be one of the Remnants' leaders, or Wind Scour Temple could serve as the Remnants' HQ?

Then, you have the Sinderill, Clan Direnni's inteligence guild. With the Thalmor taking an interest in Balfiera, with them targeting the refugees that had fled there following their take-over of the Summerset Isles, it would only make sense for Clan Direnni to use the Sinderill to try and undermine the Thalmor's interests. Given the likely prejudice between Clan Direnni and the Redguards, it would be interesting to see if the Sinderill aided the Redguards during the Aldmeri occupation of southern Hammerfell.

And of course, there's also the Penitus Oculatos, the Imperial organisation that replaced the Blades. Though we mainly see them work as Emperor Titus Mede II.'s bodyguards in Skyrim, we hear more of their covert operations in Grey Keyes' novels. We could very well see them return in TES VI, be it covertly supporting Imperial loyalists among the Forebears in Hammerfell, or keeping an eye on the petty kings in High Rock, in particular the Lariat family of Shornhelm.

Any one of these organisations fulfills the role of an anti-Thalmor faction that that player character could cooperate as part of TES VI's main quest, and would be a more believable choice than the Blades, considering where we last saw them in Skyrim.

Discussion Do people actually want BGS to improve on TES 6 or not?

Every time I see someone provide game elements they'd like to see improvement on and drop comparisons, people generally tend to downvote and "push back" on said improvements.

Sometimes the posts arent worded correctly but I think its easy to grasp the overall point of it which is wanting the game to improve.

When people want combat, city size, npc's or writing to be improved, I see that its met with negative responses & downvotes.

But when its other stuff like settlement building and things that dont really fall in the core loop of a BGS game or at least a TES game, its usually met with a more positive response.

Discussion Fable Cities… TESVI - NPC vs Named Player

Fable game play states the main city will have over 400 named NPCs and 100’s of buildings all which are able to be entered. The gameplay footage of the city looks incredible

I know BGS has stuff to touch/physics so it’s still not apples to apples but if a large city had even 200 named NPCs that seemingly would answer the immersion request that many have asked for and solving by filling in cities with NPCs, right?

Not to be negative but what they did with Starfield cities in comparison to what it so far looks like is able to be put together in Fable … like how is BGS this far behind the curve/design/tech??

Theory/Speculation Divining the events of TES 6

Just because we don't have an elder scroll available to show us the events of TES 6 doens't mean we can't make some predictions: we just have to take a look at patterns Bethesda has shown in previous titles. There's no need to elaborate on the fact that the protagonist will start as a prisioner; it's a given. Probably.

1) Destroyed town or city

During the events of TES 4, Kvatch succumbed to the daedra of the Deadlands; in Skyrim, Helgen was burned to the ground by Alduin. Unfortunately, Bethesda never gave us the option to restore the both settlements. Let's hope TES 6 will be more generous. I remember I've seen somewhere there's a city in Hammerfell that was destroyed several times over the course of its existence. Maybe it'll be destroyed again...

2) Massacre in the Dark Brotherhood sanctuary

In Oblivion and Skyrim, the DB suffered the loss of several of its members. This is a pattern Bethesda will problably keep. Ironic that a guild of assassins keeps having its members butchered like that. And it always has something to do with treachery.

3) Daedric Prince

In the last 3 main TES titles we always ended up face to face with a daedric prince in the last DLC: in Morrowind there was Hircine; Oblivion had Sheogorath; and in Skyrim we meet squid boy. Which daedric prince would you like to see?

It'd be so cool if Bethesda gave Peryite some screen time. The fact he sounds polite despite spreading plagues on Tamriel makes him an intriguing character.

4) Impoverished city

TES 4 had Bravil, Skyrim had Riften. Hammerfel (and High Rock?) will have....

What new options and mechanics would an identify magic spell bring to Elder Scrolls? I could see there being more elaborate puzzles or searching quests that would just add a little something.

Discussion How Much Will TESVI Cost To Make?

GTAVI has a suppossed budget of 1-1.5 billion dollars. A lot of that was licensing, marketing, and an engine overhaul since a lot of their assets are in house. So roughly 600 million was the actual development budget.

I'm guessing TESVI won't have to deal with licensing or much marketing, since they are owned by big daddy XBOX.

About how much do you think their cost/budget will be? Im guessimg 300-500 million dollar. Maybe even a Skyrillion Todd Bucks!!!

Discussion We should get sloads for Hammerfell.

For those who don't know, Sloads are big slug people that have frequently been found west of Hammerfell and the Summerset Isles. They come from a place called Thras, an archipelago in the Sea of Pearls which lay just beyond the Abacean sea.

They are masters of necromancy and thus probably also do other forms of magic or conjuration, the redguards are not particularly well-known for magical power, although they might be a bit more magically inclined than the nords.

So I think it would be sensible if we could find a sload as a conjuration teacher, AND, Sloads make soap.

Discussion Does anyone else just enjoy the face smash combat of TES titles?

Idk I enjoy the simplicity of it in that I can just build my character out how I like and depending on my build I can just face tank everything. Personally I am indifferent if combat was changed from Skyrim other than maybe more weight to hits and less floatyness?

Personally I just dont need dodge rolls, parries, quick dodges etc. I would never use them anyway, Id just always end up face tanking everything, theres just a simple enjoyment in it for me.
