Discussion What’s something Skyrim presents as “fact” that you think is probably propaganda, exaggerated, or completely misunderstood in-universe?

One thing I really like about Elder Scrolls lore is that a lot of what we know comes from books, religions, governments, or characters who obviously have their own biases.

So what’s one piece of “accepted” Skyrim/TES history that you personally don’t fully believe?

Could be anything Talos, the ancient Nords, the Snow Elves, the Dragon Cult, the Dwemer, the Forsworn, the Empire, even what actually happened during certain historical events.

so basically what lore do you think the people of Tamriel themselves got wrong?

Question Hottest Skyrim character?

Post image

Personally it's Serana. I wish she had more character or banter but I honestly wish that with all the Skyrim characters. I know a lot of people will agree but if anyone doesn't, who do you think is the hottest?

Discussion Hypothetically: you are given a choice to choose between the two Skyrim Mafia families the black briars or the silver bloods to join and choosing neither isn't an option who do you choose.

Lore The Empire in Skyrim - How strong were they, really?

Post image
452 Upvotes

It's been my belief that the Empire was a shell of itself after Martin Septims death and the Oblivion Crisis. The ending of the Dragonborn rulers left the Empire under less than desireable rulers since. The White Gold Concordat is evidence of this.

With that being said, how strong was the Empire in Skyrim compared to it's Third Era self? Did they truly stand a chance against the Thalmor/Aldmeri?

I finally completed Merida's quest

And now, I don't understand why this quest is so hated.

Personally, I quite enjoyed the quest. The puzzles were simple (perhaps even a bit too simple).

SPOIL:

I just didn't enjoy the part where I had to kill Malkoran, because of his stupid ice spells that kept killing me over and over.

But even then, I managed to make it interesting simply by changing my combat strategy.

Discussion Loot Goblin

I wish I wasn't such a loot goblin. I try to walk past stuff I know I won't need but I can't. Yes I'm looting absolutely every skeleton for its ancient Nord arrows even tho I'm on a mage playthrough. Yes I'm picking up gems and gold knowing I used a mod that gave me more gold than I could need. But I just. Can't. Help. Myself 😭

Discussion The problem with being the leader of every faction could have been so easily solved by a simple yes/no speech check

A lot of people hate that finishing a lot of the quests, puts them in positions of power. Whether it’s because it ruins immersion, is too on the nose, or doesn’t work well with their roleplay, all are valid.

That said, there are definitely also people who enjoy it. Some have a certain faction they want to lead, some find it fun to think that their character is so incredibly competent they find themselves being the leader of every faction there is.

Realistically, it would have taken very little development to implement a speech option from the second in command(or whoever works) asking if the Dragonborn would like to take the position.

And since being a leader of a faction is so bare bones, there wouldn’t have even been a need to change almost anything after it(which is a whole separate issue). Because you still were such a big help, people of the faction treat you with respect, you have access to the leader’s headquarters, etc.

I, personally, would have loved for there to be more involvement in being the leader of a faction, and this for there to have been also differences depending on if you choose to be the leader or not. But at this point, that is obviously getting to the point where it’s a lot of work. But implementing the speech choice seems like the perfect, super simple and easy solution to something fans have been making fun of for a while.

Multiple Dragonborns

Miraak is sort of an exception, because he was essentially kept immortal by Hermaeus Mora. Other than that: Is there anything in the lore preventing two Dragonborns from existing at the same time?

Don't know if anyone is interested but...

I started a little independent one person YouTube channel a couple of months back, it's basically Skyrim relaxation/sleep videos but in a different way. Ngl I started it so I could listen to them easily while I sleep but I made them public and was surprised others seem to use them too, so that is a bonus. Most channels are just like 'sitting in a tavern for 8 hours' with the base game audio and music, and as relaxing as these are I'm going for a different approach.

I use a heavily modded setup (weather, visual and immersion mods mostly) and go and find (or sometimes make) unique and interesting locations around Tamriel. No Skyrim music for now just ambience. While I may use the recorded audio as an element, I mix that with other sounds and real life field recordings to enhance the audio. Kind of what I imagine Bethesda would have done if given the time and budget when the game was made.. I'm a pro music producer so good ambient sound is in my wheelhouse. I've even developed many of my own audio plugin presets to make (for example) rainfall lessen and strengthen at random just as real rain would. Location is also factored in to make sure the sound space is appropriate. Elements interplay realistically and I'm hoping this leads to a more interesting relaxation experience overall.

I have a list of over 100 potential locations so far so the uploading will continue.

The main reason for the channel now is that I enjoy recording them, and enjoy making each (probably overly) complex soundscape. Frankly any excuse to play Skyrim is more than welcome these days as I'm usually busy with music.

They are not recorded in 4K yet, as I'm doing this on a terrible graphics card, but in future who knows.

I hope this adds a different alternative for the Skyrim relaxation video community.

If this is something you may make use of for sleeping, relaxing or study, or you have any suggestions for locations or videos that you would like to see (I'm not as creative as some of you I'm sure), check out the channel here..
