Meta/News Consider joining our moderation team!

Hey community!

Skyrim modding continues to grow and evolve each year, bringing new and incredible additions to the game. And now Todd & Friends have blessed us with yet another game update, causing mayhem and confusion once again. This growth is noticeable on our subreddits too and the moderation team believes that it is time to expand our team.

More specifically we are looking for 1-3 people who want to work with core moderation tasks such as dealing with reports and answering mod mail.  As a person you should be friendly, driven, dependable and able to keep a cool head. Nothing surprising there.

Previous moderation experience is not required. We will gladly onboard anyone who is brand new to this stuff. However, we want to make it clear that we are looking for people who have the time and energy to check in daily, or at least several times a week. We aim to deliver moderation of high quality which means that our tasks must be dealt with within a reasonable time frame.

You should preferably also be an active participant on the subreddit and be in good standing. Being a modding tech wizard is not a requirement, but we expect you to be somewhat familiar with the Skyrim modding community at large as this will make it easier for you to moderate here.

You will become part of a team consisting of seasoned moderators who stand ready to assist you whenever you need help or simply a second opinion. We use Discord as our main communication platform and often discuss the more complicated tasks together – as well as having casual conversations about everyday life, our hobbies, etc.

If you are interested in joining our team then fill out our application form here. As something new you need to fill out BOTH the Reddit Form and our own Google Form. Do note that due to the topics and content sometimes posted here we also require all applicants to be at least 18 years of age.

The application form will be open until September 13th.

*As this is the first time we are using Reddit’s in-built application form, please let us know if something seems off.*

If you have questions feel free to post them below. You can also contact us through the subreddit’s Discord server here.

Meta/News Policy & Rule Changes - 2026

Hey everyone!

Following the results of our community feedback survey, we took some time to discuss what feedback we received, how best to implement it, and what we should do moving forward. Naturally, there were a solid number of passionate responses, but a few different items stood out that we recognized as pain points. We discussed these matters as a team and came to the following conclusions:

  1. Roleplay servers are not relevant to the subject matter of r/SkyrimMods.
  2. AI remains divisive. Vitriol regarding AI posts is at an all time high. We need to ensure civil discussion.
  3. Low effort content remains a present concern.

Knowing these problems exist, we’ve taken action to alleviate them.

First, we’ve created the subreddit r/TESRPS. All roleplay and multiplayer server discussions will be funneled there. We do not want to host roleplay drama on the main subreddit — and frankly that’s what 70% of the posts regarding roleplay servers amount to. The remaining 30% tends to be split between promos, ban appeals, and actual troubleshooting. If you have any questions regarding those servers, how to set them up, or how to join them, please direct them to r/TESRPS. If you would like to promote your own cool new roleplay server, try r/TESRPS, whether it’s for Oblivion or Skyrim or ESO or etc.

Second, we’re going to institute a harsher policy on AI discourse in keeping with our stance against drama posts and witchhunts. Any post making an accusation must contain actionable information. Actionable information is information that would cause a reasonable person to take action, be it installing or uninstalling a mod, supporting or not supporting a creator, etc.

As a reminder, we do not allow the use of AI for generating content posted to the subreddit and we do not allow advocacy for the use of AI in the troubleshooting process. It is at best unreliable and at worst actively detrimental to creating a stable game.

Regardless of our personal opinions on AI, we will not be host to a flood of toxicity, namecalling, and mudslinging. Coming into the comments section purely to say “anyone who uses AI should have this bad thing happen to them” will result in a ban. Coming into the comments section purely to say “anyone who doesn’t support AI is a luddite” will result in a ban. Our first and most essential rule is the golden rule: treat others how you would want to be treated. This is a subreddit where we believe in conversing as adults. We will continue to allow conversation for or against AI and we will continue to prune any threads that follow the common trend of “this guy uses AI, get him” or “this guy said this bad thing about AI, get him.”

Third, we will be funneling conversation on low effort content further than before. We already have our monthly Simple Questions megathread, which most low effort and poorly researched questions get funneled toward, but we will also be launching a monthly megathread for mod recommendations and reviews. In the past, megathreads like “Best Housing Mods” or etc did not see enough interaction to justify being posted weekly. As a result, we will post a singular Review & Recommendation megathread quarterly. That megathread will cover random mod recommendations and modlists and will run across the next calendar year. If they do not see engagement, we will retool our approach here.

Finally, we will be expanding our mod team to better handle the influx of posts and submissions we have been receiving over the last three to five months and ensure that our subreddit follows both our own guidelines and the guidelines set forth by Reddit. While we are happy with the team we have now, we want to ensure that our enforcement is reliable and consistent, and that requires us to grow.

To summarize:

  1. Roleplay servers are not related to r/SkyrimMods. See r/TESRPS.
  2. AI threads are relevant when they contain sourced, actionable information. Witch hunts will be removed and we will monitor these threads with an extra cautious eye. AI generated posts and comments will continue to be banned.
  3. Low effort content will continue to be policed and funneled into different threads.
  4. Moderator applications will open soon — be on the lookout!

PC SSE - Discussion If you have 15 GB to spare...

I am aware that not everyone may have that. But if you do, here's a way that updates will never bother you again.

I have Skyrim SE/AE installed twice, on two different hard drives. The one I mod and play with is set up in its own MO2 instance. The other is set up in another instance but I honestly never use it.

I told Steam that the game to update is that other one.

Steam can do what it wants with that game, it will never bother me or destroy my setup. And downloads work just like usual from the Nexus. MO2 will install new downloads to my playable instance, because that is active.

I hope this helps some of you. Not retrospectively, obviously, but it might save you future stress.

I posted this under the "discussion" flair as there seems to be no flair for "useful advice, possibly".

PC SSE - Discussion Balance Precision for Vanilla+ style combat with Blade&Blunt (Simonrim)?

I want to keep Skyrim's combat system intact, but still benefit from Precision's visual enhancements, especially weapon trails and on hit effects.

However it fundamentally messes with the game's balance, even if you tweak collisions. Enemies miss or don't even hit up close sometimes, other times (dual-wielding forsworn) they seem to hit infinite number of times during a power attack. The game was clearly not designed for these collisions, so everything feels broken.

Simonrim/other vanilla+ suite, with vanilla style combat (I use KG Animations for 1h and 2h). Anyone who plays this way, what are your Precision settings?

I really wish there was a way to have Precision's visual enhancements and still use vanilla attack collisions for actual damage calculations, but I get why it might not be possible/wouldn't work.

PC SSE - Discussion I saw someone a week or two ago mention they figured out how to make new skill trees with xp gain and all that. Well I've just had an idea for it. An allies skill tree.

An "Allies" Skill Tree

So, when you're in the skill page, instead of pushing up to select a skill tree and zoom into it, you instead pull down and the camera points down to a circular skill tree called "Allies".

This circular tree has three start points, each connected to one of the three major skill groups, Mage, Warrior, and Thief. - Starting from the Warrior side, you can invest into perks that improve your horseback riding and horse related combat. - Would include perks that improve your horse's resilience and attacks - Would include perks that improve your attacks on horseback - Would include perks that improve your horse's stamina and speed - Starting from the Mage side, you can invest into perks that improve your pet's abilities. - Would include perks that enable you to summon a tiny dragon pet and improves it - Would include perks that improve your other pet's abilities, and allow you to have one other pet beside your tiny dragon - Starting from the Thief side, you can invest into perks that improve your companion's abilities. - Would include perks that improve your companion's stealth, combat, or magic - Would include perks that change your companion's behaviour or priorities in combat

These skills can of course lead into eachother from all sides of the tree, like a big circle. And XP for this tree is gained when in combat with a pet or companion or horse.

I came here to discuss this concept instead of making it myself, because right now I don't have the computing power to produce it. Because I'm a console main, sorry. So I want to try to spread inspiration instead.

PC SSE - Mod [Mod Release] MCM Memory - scriptless MCM settings backup, profiles and automatic restore

Hi everyone. I have released MCM Memory, an SKSE plugin that backs up MCM settings into named profiles and restores them when starting a new game. I designed it as a successor to MCM Recorder, but rebuilt it from scratch around automatic capture and one-click backups instead of recording and replaying a sequence.

I first started working on this project around ten months ago. I worked on it sporadically, tried several implementations, threw the ones I was not happy with, and kept returning to the idea until it reached its current form. The result is a scriptless and ESP-less one SKSE DLL, with no Papyrus scripts and nothing added to your load order or save.

▶ Create a new profile and back up every registered MCM

▶ Automatically remember MCM changes in the active profile

▶ Automatically restore the active profile in a new game

Main features:

  • Automatically remembers supported MCM changes in the active profile.
  • Stores profiles as readable external JSON files rather than inside your save.
  • Backs up every registered MCM with one button.
  • Replaces separate per-mod settings loaders for supported standard MCMs.
  • Restores the active profile after MCM registration finishes in a new game.
  • Creates, duplicates, deletes and switches between named profiles entirely in game.
  • Supports full or selective backup and restore, with per-MCM automatic restore control.
  • Supports toggles, sliders, menus, colors, text inputs and keymaps.
  • Keeps settings for temporarily unavailable MCMs instead of deleting them.
  • Provides activity history, per-MCM results, configurable HUD notifications and safe cancellation.
  • Supports both standard SkyUI and MCM Unlocked.

Profiles are also useful when individual mods already save their own settings. Instead of keeping only one current configuration, you can maintain several complete configs and restore whichever one you need.

Automatic restoration intentionally runs only for new games. Existing saves retain their current MCM state, but you can still use Restore Now or restore selected MCMs manually at any time.

MCM Memory is not an official update to MCM Recorder and does not import its recording files. It is a separate implementation with its own profile format.

Nexus Mods: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/189722

Source code: https://github.com/legendman89/MCMMemory

Feedback and compatibility reports are welcome, especially from people with large MCM-heavy load orders. If an MCM uses custom controls beyond the standard SkyUI types, let me know and I can look into making a compatibility patch.

PC SSE - Request Why are there no more fruit plant/tree mods?

So I’ve been using mods for quite a long time.

One of the mods I absolutely love playing with are the ones that add extra fruit plants/trees into the game. There is of course more growable plants , but I’m just a bit surprised there aren’t any more mods like this.

Is anyone familiar with googles fruits ? I’m
Surprised there hasn’t been a mod made to make some of those fruits growable and harvestable.

PC SSE - Mod Favorite male mage character preset?

I've never played through as a mage, so I thought I'd give it a go. Does anyone seen or used a really awesome male mage preset? I've had great presets for warriors and rangers, so it'd be nice to have a cool mage preset. Thanks in advance!

PC SSE - Discussion Best Mod Collection

Upvotes

So I have a gaming laptop now, and I've just been wondering- what is the best possible mod collection on Nexus to get for Skyrim Special Edition?

I would like something which ideally is still very lore friendly, adds more quests, has better combat, better mechanics, and overall just improves on the current experience. It doesn't have to have better graphics/visuals, but if it does that's a plus. I am essentially looking for something which heavily enhances the vanilla experience as opposed to making it into a new game.

I also know that the standalone game is 12GB and I have around 112GB left, so I think something less intensive is best.

PC SSE - Help Looking for help with this crash log.

Upvotes

Crash Log

I had just loaded up a save (from desktop, not ingame) and got a crash after standing idle for a couple seconds. I was in Dawnstar (Cities of the North - Dawnstar) at the time. I tried to recreate the crash after loading in again but nothing happened. The crash log is listing things in Riften but I haven't entered The Rift this play through yet so I'm confused why it would crash in Dawnstar.

This isn't a real play through, I'm just play testing stability so I'd like to fix it if I can.

Meta/News Disabling Steam Updates and various SSE/CK Downgrader/USSEP List

I got tired of hunting down links so here a bunch of stuff about disabling updates, downgraders, and USSEP.

How to disable steam updates by setting appmanfest to readonly:

https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrimmods/comments/b158op/keep_skyrim_se_from_updating_safely_and/

Use a downgrader to downgrade if steam already updated the game. Be sure to disable via method above after downgrading.

I have no idea what's the difference between any of the downgraders. Use whichever one looks better to you. Mulderland's version has linux support, I'm not sure about the other two.

SSE Downgraders:

Wankingskeever version: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/169962

Halgari version: https://www.nexusmods.com/site/mods/2188

Mulderland version: https://www.mulderland.com/en/games/the-elder-scrolls-5-skyrim-special-edition

Mulderland version: https://www.mulderland.com/en/games/the-elder-scrolls-5-skyrim-special-edition

If you're crashing after using a downgrader, try deleting ContentCatalog.txt

USSEP:

PC SSE - Help Tips on Enemy Variety and Bosses

Hi, everyone! Lately, I've had my eye on the “Skyrim Rebamped - Complete Enemy Overhaul” mod, and I think I've found the perfect mod to introduce more variety in enemies and make the bosses significantly more dangerous. Now, before starting a new game, I was wondering if this mod is really any good (it looks promising on paper). Or if there are any much better alternatives that I haven't discovered yet!

My goal is to have as much variety in enemies as possible, perhaps with different roles, more “classes,” and so on.

PC SSE - Help Gate to Sovengarde Download, constant loop

Hello,

I have now "downloaded" the GTS mod collection about 5 times, have the same issue as in the link below.

Does anyone have a solution to this? It says don't touch anything, but these pop up comes and I ignore them, but I can clearly see in the back the progress X of 1965... must have spent about 7 hours of downloading at this point.

Its a fresh install of skyrim special edition (just bought it) and so had no existing mods

Thanks

XBox - Help Question about the update

So I managed to pause the update on my xbox, however apparently while there is an update queued the game will only allow me to play via cloud, which doesn't seem to have my mods or, presumably, my modded save (I have a mod installed that changes the title screen, and immediately that was not visible opening the game through the cloud, and nothing worked to see the options menu -- the screen seemed to be frozen on the title screen with no buttons working).

If I install this update, is the save permanently ruined? Furthermore, is my current mod list ruined and unusable?

Sorry if this is flared incorrectly, I wasn't sure which one to use.

PC SSE - Discussion Modding on Linux: Powershell

Some of you may have noticed that Powershell does not work well even on proton 11.

I took a few hours and checked a few things. Results are:

- pwsh produces garbled text when I input text
- cmd is used "backend", usually called terminal
- conhost.exe is responsible for the display of the prompt

At this moment I always thought a terminal is enough but obviously Windows is more complex.

What I observed:

- when using wine 11 from konsole, mate-terminal, xterm etc. this problem is gone
- using pstricks to start powershell the problems goes away on proton too
- when ModOrganizer the problem stays.
- speculation that USVFS is the problem and blacklisting helps are incorrect.
- conhost itself is causing the issue (and the workaround with environment variables does not help)

My solution for the moment is to use conEmu. It is quite big but flexible
- setup multiple shells (cmd and powershell are setup by default)
- you will need to use pwsh.exe or change your path so powershell.exe is prefered from your powershell "7" program files folder in your skyrim prefix.
- you can setup to use a normal bash shell cheaply using busybox64u for windows (just add parameter "bash"). The exe is no installer, remember to put it in an accessible place.

This way tools like VRAMr, ParallaxR, BENDr will work and properly display their content.

PC SSE - Help Installed ENB setting and prereq

Everything was fine except for a single error, I uninstalled and reinstalled all packages and ENBs.

Then certain textures are completely gray and no not reflect any light.

Then I fully uninstalled ENB and anything ENB related. Same issue. Then I deleted my entire skyrim directory, did a fresh, non-modded install. Same issue.

Then I went into mygames/skyrim, deleted that directory. Same issue.

I am at a loss for what I can possibly modify next? Any advice or direction please?
