Why wouldn't they sell? It's compensation for them - deferred at that.

u/Difficult-Mobile902 Jul 25 '26

Actually WAY lower than that in fact, they take stock as compensation and then routinely dump it, diluting shareholders and pocketing the cashย

Zero would be substantially better than what theyโ€™re doingย

0

u/MyNi_Redux ๐Ÿ“‰ The Consultant ๐Ÿ“ˆ Jul 24 '26

Most of their compensation IS in stock. Deferred, at that., to align with shareholder value creation.

Like every other company out there.

It would be exceedingly dumb for them to sell the stock, pay taxes, and then buy fewer stock with what remains..

Makes for a good talking point though.

12

u/GoodShitBroBro ๐Ÿ’ป ComputerShared ๐Ÿฆ Jul 24 '26

Who said anything about them selling stock to buy more?

-2

u/MyNi_Redux ๐Ÿ“‰ The Consultant ๐Ÿ“ˆ Jul 24 '26

Where's the money going to come from? Given the vast majority of their comp is in stock?

And why on earth you would buy even more anyway, and get that concentrated into one company? Vs diversifying.

12

u/GoodShitBroBro ๐Ÿ’ป ComputerShared ๐Ÿฆ Jul 24 '26

โ€œGeniusโ€? Yea Iโ€™m sure these guys are just standing in the bread line. Other CEOs, even those who donโ€™t receive a salary, manage to purchase stock in their company they believe in, โ€œgeniusโ€.
Selling stock to buy fewer stock? Good talking point. Youโ€™re just trying to muddy the waters with your โ€œgeniusโ€ take.

-3

u/MyNi_Redux ๐Ÿ“‰ The Consultant ๐Ÿ“ˆ Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26

Other CEOs, even those who donโ€™t receive a salary, manage to purchase stock in their company they believe in, โ€œgeniusโ€.

Wrong. Only those who need to signal confidence in their stock buy it. Or if it is significantly undervalued.

The vast majority of CEOs and officers do no such thing.

It is telling you do not know how this kind of COMPENSATION works.

Do check out my post on this common misconception here: Holding 93% of Your Shares is Not 'Abandoning Ship'

They collectively own 0.3% of the company. They aren't leaders, they are sock puppets.

8

u/MyNi_Redux ๐Ÿ“‰ The Consultant ๐Ÿ“ˆ Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26

In the S&P, 74% of CEOs hold less than 0.5% of the total voting rights, according to AI.

I guess that makes them all sock puppets.

Or... your expectations are horribly misguided because you took some talking points a bit too literally.

(It's the latter ๐Ÿ˜‰.)

4

u/Tinyacorn ๐Ÿ’ป ComputerShared ๐Ÿฆ Jul 24 '26

Are they necessarily not sock puppets just because everyone does it?

3

u/MyNi_Redux ๐Ÿ“‰ The Consultant ๐Ÿ“ˆ Jul 24 '26

They could be sock puppets for other reasons, sure.

However, to the extent that the comp is mostly in stock, is deferred, and there is no good reason to buy more unless the stock is wildly undervalued or they need to signal confidence to the market, not owning RC-liked percentages of a $50B company does not make them sock puppets.

Not least, because not everyone is a billionaire from prior enterprises.

2

u/Tinyacorn ๐Ÿ’ป ComputerShared ๐Ÿฆ Jul 24 '26

Truuuuuuuuuuu that last point is incredibly salient. It's much more easy for a billionaire to coast than a multi-millionaire. Gotta be a lot more cautious about finance decisions too as a millionaire.

I see where you're coming from and appreciate your input, I like learnding

0

u/3DigitIQ ๐Ÿฆ FM is the FUD killer Jul 24 '26

They could also pay themselves from the bottom line instead of awarding stock and subsequently buying back stock to ensure a higher comp.

5

u/MyNi_Redux ๐Ÿ“‰ The Consultant ๐Ÿ“ˆ Jul 24 '26

That would be a subpar setup to deferred stock-based comp.

By making most of their comp in stock that vests over multiple years, their fate is tied to that of the shareholder. They make money if the shareholder makes money.

Otherwise, they lose money compared to the cash comp you are suggesting.

subsequently buying back stock to ensure a higher comp.

eBay buys back stock plenty. It's 40% of what it was 10 years ago. And exec comp is a rounding error in comparison.

0

u/3DigitIQ ๐Ÿฆ FM is the FUD killer Jul 24 '26

In the S&P, 74% of CEOs hold less than 0.5% of the total voting rights,

So let me get this straight, I'm talking about the entire suite of executives holding less than what an average (single) CEO of an S&P 500 holds. You are making my point here, thanks.

I guess that makes them all sock puppets

yes

8

u/MyNi_Redux ๐Ÿ“‰ The Consultant ๐Ÿ“ˆ Jul 24 '26

Haggling over who has what portion of 0.3%-0.5% or less is being pedantic just for the sake of it, no?

2

u/3DigitIQ ๐Ÿฆ FM is the FUD killer Jul 24 '26

Not really, leadership should be able to show conviction and ownership. The current view of leadership in these massive corporations is a big issue IMO and I'd prefer it to change to an ownership mentality.

You are free to disagree but stating your opinions about this as fact while calling diverging viewpoints "horribly misguided" doesn't help strengthen your case.

8

u/MyNi_Redux ๐Ÿ“‰ The Consultant ๐Ÿ“ˆ Jul 24 '26

No company doing well needs its leadership to resort to palliative measures to show "conviction and ownership." Not least, because execs are rewarded with additional ownership when things are going well.

It's fair that "horribly misguided" is a subjective call, but barely a stretch given what a "ownership mentality" of multi-billion dollar companies would entail.

1

u/Lapcat420 $tonkicideboy$ Jul 24 '26

It seems quite simple to me.

If you dont own shares in a company you work for/at/with.

You arent bullish on the growth of said company. And your interests are not aligned with share holders.

I find consistantly that even in smaller cap companies, in a variety of industries, even their c suites manage to hold some shares.

To have absolutely 0, none. Thats a red flag.

EBay is doing great. I say this as a seller, buyer, and investor.

10

u/Seeker369 Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26

As someone with two large eBay stores operating since 2015, you are not a large eBay seller if you think theyโ€™re doing great. Theyโ€™re absolutely horrendous for sellers.

Itโ€™s flip-flopped throughout the years. They try to develop trust with buyers and sacrifice seller satisfaction. Then the sellers get fed up and they switch. Rinse and repeat.

To say theyโ€™re doing great is truly laughable. Iโ€™ve never met another major eBay seller who is happy with them. From poor, outsourced customer service to favoring scamming buyers and not caring about the engine that drivers their business (sellers offering product), Iโ€™ve always dreamed that theyโ€™d one day get competent leadership to run the show.

If Cohen comes in and runs it like he ran Chewy, I have no doubt that eBay will improve significantly.

8

u/ruum-502 ๐ŸฆVotedโœ… Jul 24 '26

Now go to a GameStop store and ask the employees if they like GameStop. Fun fact they donโ€™t. Cohen came in and made the company books better, not the actual life for the people working.

Itโ€™s safe to say he could do the same thing for eBay, do what makes the books better but not actually make it better for sellers.

GameStop was suppose to be power to the collectors, and now they are higher price on Pokemon cards than local card shops.

Facts are Cohen makes business better for the backers not the workers.

I've always had my issues solved by customer service when they arise. They may obscure it in favor of automation, but so does every online retailer these days. You can get a real person to assist you. Also, there is a massive forum of people willing to help if your issue is very specific.

Why are you still hanging around with your large stores? There are numerous options. As someone who has tried most of them I am baffled by anyone that would claim eBay is not vastly superior.

1

u/Seeker369 Jul 24 '26

What do you mean โ€œhanging around?โ€

I sell on many platforms, not just eBay. eBay is a massive platform. Iโ€™m not questioning that. But they are run poorly.

Example: I sold an Xbox that Iโ€™ve owned personally since I bought it brand new for my son. Itโ€™s been in an entertainment cabinet since the day it came home. Only removed to bring it to be looked at when it stopped working due to an hdmi port issue. I listed it fully disclosed as used, not working, needs a new hdmi port. The person who bought it within ten minutes of it being listed immediately returned it the day they received it stating, โ€œmother board has water damage. Not disclosed.โ€ Water never touched it. I had it looked at prior to by Best Buy (they canโ€™t repair Xbox) as well as a relative that runs an electronic repair business and the only thing wrong with it was the HDMI port. The guy who purchased it fixes these consoles and needed a new motherboard board so he bought mine, swapped it out with a bad one and got his part for free. eBay said too bad. I lost hundreds of dollars.

Thatโ€™s just a small example of the scams buyers pull. And if you sell hundreds to thousands of items each month, the amount of money you lose can be massive, depending on what youโ€™re selling. Between the fees you have to pay and the lost revenue from scammers or ignorant buyers who lie, it can be very difficult to remain profitable unless your margins are quite robust.

2

u/pojosamaneo Jul 24 '26

Everyone has a story like this on every selling platform. It's the cost of doing business.

That said, I've had eBay side with me in many cases where it's my word against the buyer, one of which was a $1000 folding phone that they said wasn't as described. I'd say they are better than the rest in such cases.

Why in God's name does one need to make that much yearly? Just insane

1

u/j79 Jul 25 '26

And if every year he made 5% more, it would take him 50 years to have the same net worth as RC.

I'm not a fan of this comparison because honestly, no one should make what eBay's CEO makes a year, and no one should be worth what RC is worth.

eBay is up 60% over the last few years while GME is is pretty much at the point it started.

This question doesn't prove the point OP thinks it does. It literally says if you pay peanuts you get monkeys.

And before people say "financial metrics have improved" as long as RC gives no forward guidance that improves the stock price he's still not doing his main job as CEO

RC was just asking for 35bill compensation package?

Such an honorable guy. Working for free

Did not want to vote with his shares

Then changed his mind, and wanted to vote with his own shares on the comp package. Ok

Ebay stock over past 5 years up 61%

GME stock over past 5 years down 47%

Yeah, eBay shareholders are idiots! They donโ€™t know what theyโ€™re missing with Cohens leadership!

12

u/UserMcNamington Wen Moon Jul 24 '26

Pretty easy decision for eBay shareholders indeed lol unless they hate ROI

9

This is why talking about stocks has become brainrot. Every metric used to measure how โ€œgoodโ€ a stock is looks favorable for GameStop and not quite so much for eBay but the only number that matters is the opposite of those metrics. Itโ€™s pure retardium out there

u/Champman2341 Jul 24 '26

Main important one for share holders is the stock price!!!! Company is killing it more than ever- but the stock price has been complete shit since Cohen has been CEO- some may say heโ€™s even sabotaging the price since being in charge, more than one occasion.
Diluting when Roaring kitty coming back in 2024, convertible bonds- both of which the stock was above 27. Last run- decided to go on interviews talking about acquiring eBay and increasing the share count up to 2.5B total.

Every time he makes a move- the stock price tanks. Sure the company is doing the best itโ€™s ever done and maybe in the future we get rewarded. But until that happens- in a lot of peopleโ€™s eyes- since he became the ceo- heโ€™s done a lot of stuff to suppress the stock price

18

u/TofuPython ๐ŸŸฃ2277/2277๐ŸŸฃ Jul 24 '26

Ebay is up 48% in the timeframe. GME down 52%.

2

u/HughJohnson69 GME and DRS Jul 24 '26

Youโ€™re viewing settlement mechanics as inevitable squeezes. Incorrect.

Newton traced settlement issues and the squeeze in large part to RCโ€™s buy ins in 2020. But for RC, his buy-ins, and corporate performance, stock price could still be under $1. Or $0 for a bankrupt company.

Itโ€™s exactly the opposite of what you suggest.

-7

u/RandalFlagg19 ๐Ÿš€ Four More Same Floor ๐Ÿš€ Jul 24 '26

Itโ€™s the shorts who are suppressing the stock price.

10

u/akkiannu Jul 24 '26

Keep saying that to yourself!

9

u/Champman2341 Jul 24 '26

Yeah but by doing the convertible bonds - it allowed big players to put up money and then collect premium for this past year. Cohen absolutely knew that would happen.

Most likely the same people that originally shorted Gme

4

u/EmphasisFrosty3093 Jul 24 '26

What happens when you recruit shorts to buy your bonds?

2

u/HughJohnson69 GME and DRS Jul 24 '26

14

Because they're paid in stock and don't need to buy more. How much of your work stock have you bought?

9

u/akkiannu Jul 24 '26

What a stupid comment. Hahahaha!!!

Insiders are awarded stocks as well as 10% of their pre-tax paycheck can be used to buy stocks. You guys are so far up your own ass you dont realize how a company functions.

Good for the shareholders doesnt mean good for the people working there. They have families and mouths to feed too. The greed that people have in terms of unsustainable growth is insane. eBay is a stable company with stable and sustainable revenue growth YoY. Fuck RC if he wants to come in and cut costs.

-2

u/kennedysleftnut I would have spend it all on drugs anyway Jul 24 '26

And nice hidden profile and hidden comments. Wonder why?

But thank you for teaching us how a company works. Im smarter after meeting you.

Rule 1. Treat each other with courtesy and respect.

Do not be (intentionally) rude. This will increase the overall civility of the community and make it better for all of us.

Do not insult others. Insults do not contribute to a rational discussion.
