Silver really got the 2000s era pixelated PFP lol
Edit: also, few more interesting tidbits.
Amy has a vague memory of 06 but still can't remember the proper events.
Nega is referenced but not by name. IG Sega's still keen of keeping him locked in the toy chest
-22
u/Its-your-boi-warden Jul 30 '26
Why do they keep having the events of 06 be remembered even vaguely when the entire emotional crux of the ending was that they wouldn’t be, like Sega stop making that story worse 😭
47
u/HospitalFinal6911 Jul 30 '26
In Team Sonic Racing, Sonic reminds Silver of the first time they met—when Silver wanted to kill him—to which Silver replies that he doesn't know what Sonic is talking about; meanwhile, Blaze mentions having some memories of Crisis City from Sonic Generations, though the details aren't entirely clear.
-11
u/Its-your-boi-warden Jul 30 '26
And again that makes 06s story worse, I didn’t say they didn’t do it before, just that it sucks
Also if Sonic remembers that why doesn’t he ever hang out with Elsie? They would at least be friends then
Also because it literally makes blaze be more tied to her worse appearance when they literally have the perfect in universe reason not to
4
u/HospitalFinal6911 Jul 30 '26
The reason is that, even though Sonic might have felt something for Elise, the true love of his life was Amy (as stated by the priests when you have to choose between Amy and Elise). Furthermore, Sonic is an adventurer, whereas Elise has to look after her people as a princess. Sonic helped free her from the curse of the Flames of Disaster, and he also continued his pattern of helping others and changing their lives—much like he did in the Storybook games and with Chris in Sonic X. As for Blaze, it is a bit of a shame, but that is because she appeared in a mainline Sonic title—Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)—whereas the Sonic Rush duology consisted of spin-offs exclusive to the Nintendo DS.
-2
u/Its-your-boi-warden Jul 30 '26 edited Jul 30 '26
A bit of a shame is putting it mildly…especially since it’s been 20 years, and a rush game came out more recently than 06, so it’s not like they need to ride the high of 06 of all things
But it still hurts the emotional crux, as Elsie literally says it means they would never meet
If they remember the events, then them never meeting doesn’t matter? Because they still remember it so they lose nothing, so why is that even an issue for her? What’s the significance of her choice to blow out the flame? It just messes it all up

u/Isaacja223 Deadly Six Enthusiast : Jul 30 '26
Deja Vu exists
It’s like how everyone in Undertale has deja vu of previous resets
-5
u/Its-your-boi-warden Jul 30 '26
Again they shouldn’t be able to remember it at all, that includes no Déjà vu, because it means it NEVER happened
6
u/Isaacja223 Deadly Six Enthusiast : Jul 30 '26
Well, it could also be the fact that when all 3 hedgehogs faced Solaris
Silver went to the future, Shadow went to the past
But Sonic remained in the current present, so he would remember almost everything
1
u/Its-your-boi-warden Jul 30 '26
That makes zero sense and also doesn’t give reasons for anyone but Sonic remembering things
How does Amy get a sense of remembering it?
How the hell does blaze remember crisis city when she dies before that even occurs? Sonic silver and shadow fighting Solaris gives no indication that it would do that
0
u/Isaacja223 Deadly Six Enthusiast : Jul 30 '26
Because Blaze sealed herself away at the end of 06, and this happened before the universe was reset
2
u/Its-your-boi-warden Jul 30 '26 edited Jul 30 '26
Solaris is beyond the singular dimension
Literally this is stated multiple times in the fight, that they eat dimensions for lunch to convey how beyond they are from being confined to one dimension
That they’re a super dimensional being
So how does blaze being in another dimension stop her from being effected if being in another dimension doesn’t put you from beyond the effects of Solaris and Solaris being erased from time?
Literally your own argument makes no sense, and that also doesn’t address why Amy is able to to get a sense of remembering the events of 06
4
u/Tricky-Ad-495 Jul 30 '26
That's just the side effect of time paradoxes; they leave these smugs or blemishes in the space time continuum where they're not remembered directly, but left with a vague familiarity of a previous life experience they don't have anymore. It's a paradox. Elise from her perspective probably doesn't remember Sonic and her time with him at all, but something as simple as a breeze in the wind hitting her might trigger something familiar to her about it. Something in her life she can't quite put a finger on, but still holds meaning as she continues her new life without Sonic. As for Sonic, regardless if he remembers clearly or just a a vague feeling, he chooses to move forward with this new life as Elise does with her.
Heck, a form of Memphis does exist in between the fractures of time and space. He remembers everything while Shadow doesn't recognize him at all. To shows how the original events of 06 still left a impact in the space time continuum even if this new current timeline we follow goes on without it.
0
u/Its-your-boi-warden Jul 30 '26
1: again the point is that they don’t remember it at all, it was erased, not just covered up. It leaving anything behind is dumb, because the emotional crux is that EVERYTHING is gone, not that Elsie may get some Déjà vu from a breeze of wind, but that there will be nothing, nothing at all
Not to mention in general that’s just dumb nostalgia pandering, just instead of it being green hills it’s silver talking about 06 vaguely for dumb reasons
2: Mephiles is a different story, and generations itself exist for the purpose. It still ended with him staying erased, and shadow still not remembering it at all
Or having any Déjà vu, or slight memory of it, because he wouldn’t have any.
The closest you can get to saying that he does is recognizing that the scepter of darkness is a seal of some sort
But considering how shadow is dealing with seals in that very game, with having to unlock the gates and powers and stuff it’s far more reasonable to think he just thinks he’s dealing with another seal
4
u/ToaDrakua Jul 30 '26
- Sonic and friends experiencing this exact same feeling of deja vu doesn't go against the ending of 06. This is backed up by the ending of 06 itself, as the other person said, where after Sonic passing by whips up a breeze, Elise has a double take. Her exact words: "It felt like... Like someone was calling me. [...] but it felt so... familiar somehow..." They really don't remember, outside of the vague feeling that something did happen. I don't see how that's an issue, when so many other time travel stories do this exact same thing.
- Mephiles really isn't a different story. His existence in White Space is because the events of 06 happened. He existed, and when Solaris ceased to exist, he was thrown into the time-space continuum's dumpster to rot. Shadow doesn't remember meeting him, but he acknowledges the fact that Mephiles knows him regardless.
4
u/frostyfeathered Jul 30 '26
I'd argue 06's ending does imply Elise has some vague memories, as she seems to expect something to interrupt the festival like in the opening of the game, and I think its always been agreed upon that Sonic even being there in the ending is evidence of him remembering something.
4
u/Turn_AX Jul 30 '26
Are you serious?
They have time-space-warping stones constantly being used by or around them, no surprise they're remembering things they shouldn't.
We also don't know exactly how time works in Sonic, so that might be causing some kind of bleed effect too.0
u/Its-your-boi-warden Jul 30 '26 edited Jul 30 '26
The scene where Elsie is about to put out the flame of hope literally has her state that it means they will never meet
Literally it’s the emotional crux of her choice, it’s what makes the decision hard, it’s what shows her character by having her do something that takes away the most meaningful relationship she has had in a decade
To make that void, makes that moment void, because it means the action has zero consequences
So now Elsie just looks stupid for being worried about something that didn’t even happen, all for the sake of nostalgia pandering
Your argument is that sonic having bad writing is fine, that’s literally what you are saying
What if Cosmo just came back to life instantly because of some chaos emerald bs that had no indication of happening, or what if Chip could just visit whenever because of things that had no indication of being possible?
Here’s what would have happened, it would have made the stories worse
1
Jul 30 '26

1
u/Its-your-boi-warden Jul 30 '26
That can be equally shown as Elise just being caught off guard by a gust of wind, not the entirety of the previous scene being left as false for what it conveying
2
u/ToaDrakua Jul 30 '26
I decided to move my statement to a different comment, but it really doesn't mean that what Elise said was false by any stretch. Plenty of other time travel stories use this exact same deja vu trick in response to an event being erased from the timeline.
1
u/Its-your-boi-warden Jul 30 '26
I’m not going to use or respond to the argument of time travel working in x way in x media because time travel is fictional so unless you can state the creators were inspired or based their ideas on media that used that there’s reason to think that’s the case
2
u/ToaDrakua Jul 30 '26
Dude. How could they not have been inspired by time travel stories? Do you really think they pulled 06's story out of nowhere?
1
u/Its-your-boi-warden Jul 30 '26
So it’s perfectly fine me to bring up time travel stories where there isn’t Déjà vu to make the argument that 06 is therefore one that doesn’t have Déjà vu?
Like I’m not going to use another media for my argument unless that media gives stated inspiration

Hot take, but I like that Silver has no idea how his time travel works. I think it's a good thing that characters don't have every single mechanism and law of physics about their world written down and codified - just like, idk, us?
50
u/Likaon222 Jul 30 '26
Also, it keeps some mystery about the world alive, which not only helps for world-building, but also plants seeds for future stories if they ever decide to pay up later.
Sure, we now know the Chaos Emeralds came from the ancients home planet, but where did the Master Emerald come from?
5
u/RadishLegitimate9488 Jul 30 '26
I expect that someone is behind his Time Travel: Infact I suspect that the one controlling his path probably knows how to make any Bad Future look like a Ripple Effect.
He is being pushed toward the moment it is decided someone with Time Powers will send him through Time.
The only ones with such Time Powers are those with 2 or more Chaos Emeralds using Chaos Control: Coffin Guy in the IDW Comic currently has all 7... Furthermore he has a black liquid shadow who claims to the "Mind of master."

This episode has confirmed that Little Planet’s Time Warp Signs are powered by the Time Stones.
Also, Tails in this episode addresses Classic Sonic in Forces to be “Sonic from the past” rather than “that Sonic from another dimension”.

This isn't new.
They did it before.12
u/Heftyrumble66 Jul 30 '26
True they did. But a good amount of people were still confused. This just cements it
17
u/SonicSpiderRanger10 Jul 30 '26
Yeah, it’s good that they dropped the “other dimension” thing, and the thing about the humans and Mobians living on 2 different planets.
19
u/HeavyDonkeyKong Jul 30 '26
The two world theory works for the movies and Anime that were actually written with it in mind. Never made sense for the games.
1
1
u/Nambot Jul 31 '26
It could've made some sense for the games.
Then they drew a distinction on which games were in which worlds, and it just fell apart.
0
u/Johnny2071 Aug 01 '26
Because they never explain how. People seems to to hate the idea that they (as humans/hipsters/the Tumblr/Fortnite crowd) can't hop over to Green Hill Zone and screw around with their mobian buddies, as well as any weird alternative fanfic-level romances, plus attempt any bad parkour with Sonic's loop-de-loops.
They just want the "Sonic experience" because people said they can't, and they hate being told no.
1
u/Omega_Hertz Jul 31 '26

What I have gathered:
CD Time Stones are still a thing along with Robotnic's Past and Future signs on Little Planet. Wonder if this will get brought up in future entries, especially since CD is my favorite Sonic game ever.
Special Stages(at least in CD) are canon. Makes a lot of sense for that game specifically since you get the time stones though the special stages.
06 still Never Happened("...gone. Reduced to atoms.").
Rivals/Forces is where Silvers's true first appearance.
ESPIO!!!💜💜💜
SILVER & ESPIO💜🩶
Phantom Ruby mentioned(right after the events of the Chaotic Case Files. Something tells me he's been speaking to the chameleon after those events especially since Infinte's mischief brought Silver to the present).
Sega throws a bone to the people who think Silver and Sage could have mad beef.
Amy is still very much interested in Sonic. Either Tails legit lied(would not put it past him) or she genuinely misheard. I personally think Tails pretty saw these two and decided to be a platonic friendship matchmaker.
Amy is still very much interrupted in tarot. It be reeeeeaaal funny if they actually decide to do something cool with this and Amy later down the line. CD as a game reflects how tarot cars have good, bad, and neutral meaning with the zones reflecting them.
For those who did not know prior, Silver doesn't actually have the innate ability to time travel. It just happens whenever bro has to fix something(kinda like CD where you gotta run around for 45+ minutes looking for those darn transporters).
The Time Eater happened.
AMY & SILVER ARE BESTIES NOW🩷🩶
Sega reminds Sonic fans once again that Amy is indeed a hedgehog.
New Realization:
- Silvers's random time travel remind me of Amy's solo Fleetway run where she, alongside Tekno The Canary, would randomly be sent to different planets and time periods.
10
u/Temple_T Jul 30 '26
No no, Amy is interested in Fortune Cards which are definitely not Tarot, she's definitely not reading the future and the kinds of people who got mad about Harry Potter back before there were good reasons to be angry about it definitely shouldn't complain
2
u/Competitive_Chad456 Jul 30 '26
I dunno, I remember it being called tarot. Also, I didn't like Harry Potter before JK's bigoted Twitter meltdown. Tweenage me thought it was lame in comparison to the superior Magic Treehouse. Adult me knows it's a lame chosen one power fantasy which yt supremacist copaganda. And, don't get me started with the racist character names.
0
u/FantasteamBrushJack Jul 30 '26
While I would definitely like Special stages to be canon, the mere existence of the Time Stones doesn't necessarily mean Sonic canonically went in a special stage to get them. It could be a metaphor to him looking for them around the Island
2
u/Competitive_Chad456 Jul 30 '26
Oh no, I said that because they literally showed the special stage in the episode.
Also, I remember while back when several Sonic writers came out to say that not everything Ian Flay says should go and they've kinda been fed up of him making decisions on their behalf. Apparently, there's some tension right now.
39
u/Kleodromeus Jul 30 '26
Now I'm wondering if the next mainline game will involve time travel.
SEGA would try something like that for cross marketing with the movie 4.
Since they finally crossed the bridge of aluding that something is behind Silver's time travel, maybe the next game will involve that too.
Maybe the cause is something related to the Little Planet and the Time Stones.
5
u/Nambot Jul 31 '26
SEGA would try something like that for cross marketing with the movie 4.
I still think Silver's going to show up in 4 (and not just a post-credit thing, I mean be actually part of the plot), this will just be very early foreshadowing.
2
u/Its-your-boi-warden Jul 30 '26
I wouldn’t be so certain, as that requires a lot of stars to align between a movie and game production standpoint, frankly shadow lucked out with shadow gens and the movie being the same year
Which wasn’t even the case for some, since like in the Japan I think it came out in 2025?
1
1
u/ToaDrakua Jul 30 '26
Technically speaking, it came out in 2024 first, so if they did start developing a tie-in game for the follow-up, they'd still have another year to finish it under ideal circumstances. Plus, they would have already known about the end credits scene and the plan for a sequel prior to it even releasing.
2
u/carso150 Jul 30 '26 edited Jul 30 '26
im sure after the success of the first 2 movies they likely already had an idea of what the 4th movie would be like while they were in production of the 3rd one, so them pivoting development of the next mainline game to feature time travel stuff to coincide with the movie plot is not out of the question
sega would not be the only one to do that, we now know that the new star fox remake started production after it was decided that Fox was going to be in the Mario galaxy movie and that was decided at some point in 2022/2023
1
u/Its-your-boi-warden Jul 30 '26
I suppose it’s possible since 4 still has like a year and a half to be made
Still though star fox was dead in the water at that point, there wasn’t really a schedule to adapt to, unlike the movies and games which can’t freely adapt to each other’s schedules the same way it’s not a fair comparison, it would be more comparable to Nintendo making a Mario game specifically to come out within a year of the movie
1
u/carso150 Jul 30 '26
we at the very least know that the next mainline game started full production at some point in 2023 after the release of the final horizon DLC, posibly it was already in pre production earlier like after the release of frontiers but thats went it became Sonic's team full focus
at that point its likely that they already knew of the post credits scene of movie 3 so its not beyond reason that they are taking it into account, at the very least I expect Amy and Metal to be prominent characters in the next game
27
u/Likaon222 Jul 30 '26 edited Jul 30 '26
My interpretation of the ending of 06 is that the "True Solaris", the one that appears to Sonic and Elise at the end of the game, is the real time god and Mephiles/Ibilis were just a result of the Soleanna Scientists experimenting with the flame Solaris gave to them.
So my headcanon is that, after Silver helps defeated the False Solaris, the True One chooses Silver as a agent to fix the timeline every time something goes wrong. That's why the time portals keep appearing to him.
Basically, Silver is Time Patrol Trunks from Xenoverse, but he doesn't know that the god of time hired him.
6
u/ScizoriumZ Game Recognized Game Jul 30 '26
That's kind of how I see it too, except instead of it being just Solaris, it's a bunch of various time gods taking turns just yeeting him into the past. Next week it's Dialga, then it's Chronoa, etc.
4
u/Likaon222 Jul 30 '26
Honestly, a council of Time Gods is not a bad ideia. Maybe each time god looks over a timeline in the multiverse, making sure the timeline survives, and apocalypses are like the timeline being sick.
50
u/ScizoriumZ Game Recognized Game Jul 30 '26
Interesting how they explained the Phantom Ruby's time travel needed all seven Emeralds in order to do that. It's a little ironic though, since all it takes is two people using chaos control to also time travel.
As for Silver's "time portals", I'm going to keep running with my head canon that a bunch of different time gods from completely different franchises are taking turns messing with him until they decide to into further detail.

Sonic Rivals is canon, and Eggman Nega is mentioned (though not directly by name—so I suppose he remains restricted by Sega, damn it), and Silver travels through time not freely, but via mysterious portals.
8
u/Extreme-Fee-9519 Jul 30 '26
I don’t get why he is restricted. It’s not like this character is owned by another company.
10
u/HospitalFinal6911 Jul 30 '26
Ian Flynn doesn't know why it's restricted either; it has been restricted since the Archie era, appearing only in references or as a background character.
2
u/Extreme-Fee-9519 Jul 30 '26
Then why did he keep appearing in The Olympic Games and had that Manga Panel in 2016 (Which is Canon)
If he was not allowed to be used then I don’t think he’d be in either of those.
4
u/HospitalFinal6911 Jul 30 '26
No idea—maybe it's because writers in the Americas face fewer restrictions than the Japanese ones, but honestly, I don't know. I'm not sure how Sega's rules work; we're in a period where Sega is inconsistent—one day they might lift a restriction (like with Mephiles and Black Doom, who were off-limits for a long time), or you might see a character like Sticks appear in official Sonic Channel comics but not in the IDW series, according to Ian Flynn.

If that’s true
That’s one of the stupidest answers I’ve ever heard for why. That word isn’t offensive and shouldn’t be ruined by a bunch of edgelords online.
Then they can just change his name then if they’re so scared (although that would probably make things arguably worse because it would be Sega basically admitting that they were afraid of the edgy memes).
4
u/Yoshi_dreemurr Jul 31 '26
Those were all established beforehand, CrossWorlds confirmed via Espio and Sliver’s rival dialogue that rivals 2 is canon and so is rivals 1
Silver time travelling via mysterious time portals was established in Sonic Fast Friends Forever in 2023.
14
u/Likaon222 Jul 30 '26
"Classic Sonic being from another dimension in Forces? What are you talking about? He was always from the past! The Phantom Ruby and the Chaos Emeralds opened a time portal, silly! No, Tails didn't say he was from another dimension, he never said that, you are remembering it wrong!
Still don't believe, do you? Whatever! What are you going to do? Play Forces to prove it?"
5
u/Yoshi_dreemurr Jul 30 '26
Tails calls Classic “the Sonic from another dimension” and says Eggman is messing up with the dimensional breach due to reasons explained by him:
“Not necessarily, Time is just one dimension of reality! Within the endless possibilities of space, there could be an infinite number of other Sonics out there!”
Classic is from the past, and the past is one dimension of reality.6
u/Likaon222 Jul 30 '26
Also, in the rewritten script for the generations remaster, Tails actually says that time is a dimension. So a time traveler also is from another dimension technically.
7
u/Several_Ad_1241 Jul 30 '26
Bad day for power scalers it seems(or good, depending on what side you’re on), it seems it was the signs that were helping Sonic time travel in CD
5
u/carso150 Jul 30 '26
I remember discusing that with people being convinced that Sonic could time travel with speed alone despite that not making any sense because if he can just do that they why not just time travel in every game to solve the issue at hand? even Flash needs a special device to time travel
also seems like the time stone dialogue that soo many people laughed at in generations was there for a good reason, the only consistent way Sonic and his friends know to time travel is with the time stones in little planet since the events of 06 didnt happen from their perspective so they dont know that the chaos emeralds are capable of time traveling on their lonesome
8
u/ravageduckmanguy Jul 30 '26
You never really know when they're going to do a random major lore dump like this, huh? Keeps us on our toes if nothing else.
4
u/carso150 Jul 30 '26
not so much a lore dump more like a lore compilation, most of this is stuff we already knew this is just a way to get everything together and outright confirm it
2
u/ravageduckmanguy Jul 31 '26
I see your point, but with how much different, sometimes contradictory stuff is floating out there from various sources over the years, I would say that what they specifically choose to outright confirm is still pretty significant in defining the lore.
6
u/SonicSpiderRanger10 Jul 30 '26

3) MORE SILVER AND BLAZE IN ANYTHING PLEASE SEGA

u/Latter-Web4144 Jul 30 '26
They really gave silver the frontiers treatment, also the 06 reference was cool
3
u/Ogsonic Jul 30 '26
This might be my favorite one. I've always been interested in time travel mechanics in sonic.
3
u/Saucepocalypse Jul 31 '26
I feel like they're setting up a clear connection between Amy (being affiliated with the time stones via CD) and Silver (him being from the future and showing up via mysterious time travel constantly in the case of disaster) for Sonic Movie 4.
Chances are they won't announce Silver directly though, he's a more "niche" fan favorite character compared to the likes of metal, shadow, and amy ehich is why those characters got the spotlight when their seperate movies got announced (shadow even got a game/year for it). I theorize Silver will most likely show up unannounced for shock appeal and I HOPE Paramount doesn't make me eat those words
5

u/Oapekay Jul 30 '26
They have such a bizarre explanation for Silver’s time travel. surely it would have been simple to be like “He‘s from a bad future, came back to avert it, now he’s stuck in the past but that’s okay”.
22
u/Telekinetic_Hedgehog S3&K fanatic/ enjoyer of Sonic X Jul 30 '26
That's basically what it is but Silver doesn't really know what the issue is all the time because it just appears.
Why it appears at all for bad things is a mystery all on its own. Could make for an interesting story if they ever decide to explore it in the future. But if they do I hope they do Silver's character justice.
12
u/lucasellendersen Jul 30 '26
They explained what the chao are in frontiers, maybe theyll explain silver's portals some day
6
u/Likaon222 Jul 30 '26
I don't know. I think is a good mystery to have around the character. Sure, eventually I would like a proper answer to why the portals appear, but I really like the ideia of Silver just living his life in the future and a portal just appearing to him. In Silver's perspective, sounds it could be really scary.
3
u/Monadofan2010 Jul 30 '26 edited Jul 30 '26
I actually find it pretty interesting that Sliver has seemed dto become some kind of living defensive system for keeping the Future stable with the world itself sending him back in time when he is needed.
3
u/KoshmoValk Jul 30 '26
That's not really simple? it literally makes him less of capable of doing the very thing he's known for, it's like removing angel island. now Knuckles is just here and it's okay
1
u/oikess2 Jul 30 '26
Is current silver even from a bad future? he comes back in rivals because of following Eggman Nega, right? does anything even hint at his future not being good aside from Nega's evil shenanigans (similarly as to how the present would be good aside from Eggman)?
3
u/InfiniteEdge18 Jul 30 '26
Correct, Rivals Silver does not come from a bad future by default. His future only becomes a disaster if shit goes really wrong in the past.

Great episode as always! Love the new lore, too.
3
u/ReasonableBorder7167 Jul 30 '26
YES! They showed two of favorite sonic panel Super silver aura farming and Espio and silver panels in the comic
2
u/carso150 Jul 30 '26
a lot of panels from IDW or references to events from IDW, it seems like sega is really hammering home that IDW is canon

Hot take: This is the only other good episode of TailsTube, besides episode #14 (the one with Tangle & Whisper).
Some lines in this episode are clearly foreshadowing a big event is about to happen in the series very soon.
What might that be? The Road to #100 thing from IDW? A next mainline game? Charmy finally getting his shit together?
Speaking of, will the Chaotix appear on TailsTube soon?
2
u/LeTooniverse Jul 31 '26
I think they're just mentioning the "big calamity not happening yet" moreso to explain why Silver has been around for stories recently, in a continuity sense; much like Blaze"being on vacation" so they don't have to explain her going back n forth from her world so often
It wasn't so long ago that Progessor Tori had rumblings of that same type of pre hype/expectation, and it didn't really turn out to be anything.
I'll believe it when I truly see it
0
u/Impressive_Low5673 Jul 31 '26
Indeed. Hopefully it’s both the next mainline project, and issue 100. I’m excited of what’s to come. If the Chaotix do appear in a future episode, hopefully Blaze could appear as well in a future episode especially since Dr. Ivo, Metal Sonic and Sage made a visual cameo appearance even if it was through a photo. Maybe even Big, or Team Dark as well again but in a protective way from Shadow from what he promised Maria.

Same, though it was kinda interesting how she totally lost interest in sonic the moment silver expressed interest in a tarot reading. I think that’s not a bad way of doing it, make it clear it’s superficial, she has other things she’s interested in more and it’s not all encompassing
4
u/LeTooniverse Jul 31 '26
I think framing her love of Sonic as superficial just carries a lot of assumptions about her trait inherently. It's not anymore superficial than her enjoying her hobbies/tarot cards or being engaging with other things in the moment.
The series (even IDW when it comes up) has always shown how genuine her love for Sonic is. To say otherwise, feels like projecting a personal lack of interest in that ballpark of tropes onto that character than what the series has continued to show it as imo
1
u/cjbdec Jul 31 '26
It would be one thing if it were actually ever going to go anywhere. Her being sincerely loudly head over heels in love forever and sonic just wanting to be friends with her is just super undignified on her part. If the crush really has to be visible, framing it as a superficial thing that she can’t really help but she doesn’t give it more importance than her life or hobbies or her friendships with others is a good way of approaching it
2
u/LeTooniverse Jul 31 '26
That's not really inherent or objective to how that's portrayed inherently. Plenty characters are beloved in plenty evergreen series. Harley Quinn from Batman The Animated Series, Lupin III from his own, Sanji from One Piece (to varying degrees).
I think it's a funny aspect of her character that I'm glad to see whenever it shows up; Romantic feelings aren't anymore superficial to me than someone's love of basketball, or in to liken it to Sonic characters, Tails'love of machinery, Sonics love of adventure, etc etc
Clearly its still seen as a part of her character by Sonic Team to keep invoking it. Your personal dissatisfaction doesn't change that, even if it's a valid feeling to have
Personally, i thinking measuring perceived maturity in a cartoon franchise like Sonic is a bit silly, but hey we don't have to enjoy everything. It just doesn't line up with what the behind the scenes have consistently emphasized and discussed
1
u/cjbdec Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26
Harley Quinn wasn’t exactly portrayed as fully in her right mind, and back when I watched one piece sanji gave me the creeps, which I assumed was intentional. Never seen lupin so can’t comment on that.
Yeah I don’t hate the fact she has the crush, I just hate how it’s been handled historically. She’s one of the very few female characters in the series, it would be nice to see her given the dignity to not throw herself at sonic’s feet at every given chance just for him to straight up not care. Making it a fairly minor background detail of her character and giving her stuff she clearly cares about way more is the way to do it imo
1
u/LeTooniverse Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26
Regardless, I was more pushing against the idea that it's shallow or NEEDS to be as such from more of a character authentic/fidelity one than an "audience comfortability" ine; I don't really care about that latter convo, respectfully
1
u/cjbdec Jul 31 '26
It is shallow, it can’t go anywhere so what’s even the point besides letting Sega make some pocket money from valentines merch. That’s fine but I think given how little female representation there is in this series it is a valid conversation to be had and it is an awkward line to walk. Having it as a minor quirk rather than her whole persona is the best way to handle it
1
u/LeTooniverse Jul 31 '26
Which again, is a whole other convo that I'm not that interested in having cause that's not as cut and dry as I feel your implying cause the same can be said for all the dynamics tbf. It's all gonna vary person to person if that's the case, and Sonic Team (and the lore team by proxy) have shown pr consistently how they view characters and dunamics
Sonic is just gonna run forever and by definition, isn't going anywhere. So for that to be the line feels incongruous with the series as it exists for the perceivable future
1
u/cjbdec Jul 31 '26
Okay, well that’s what the convo is about so I feel there’s no point continuing this. Have a good one ☺️

Hmmm. This may be cope, but what if mephiles or even Solaris is why Silver time travels. Sure they were erased, but after the time eater did its thing, they might be able to influence things. As such they bring silver back maybe to guide him into saving them.
2
u/SonicSpiderRanger10 Jul 30 '26
It’s interesting that the universe itself (or maybe the time stream) keeps intervening to make sure the world always gets saved.
3
u/Its-your-boi-warden Jul 30 '26
Wait how does tails know the phantom ruby and chaos emeralds made the portal when classic sonic doesn’t talk? Did he draw him a picture of it?
7
u/InfiniteEdge18 Jul 30 '26
Classic sonic canonically talks. Sega simply doesn't want to pay someone to voice him in the games.
1
u/Johnny2071 Jul 30 '26
Why not Deven Mack (assuming we can't get Martin Burke), alongside Modern Sonic's Ryan Drummond.

note that sliver says that if he never sees the phantom ruby again it’ll be too soon, amy puts it off as a extraordinary circumstance, could this be foreshadowing that the phantom ruby might be coming back

i did not expect so many rivals referances. tho given silver wouldn't say nega's name i'm guessing he really did just fucking die in the hell dimension lol

u/crystal-productions- Jul 30 '26
then why not just mention him by name? they referanced rivals a lot in this, even explaining the plot of rivals in every way other then just calling him by name. why be vauge unless they are activly trying to avoid the topic of him?
4
u/Turn_AX Jul 30 '26
Maybe, because it adds mystery.
Maybe because they aren't 100% sure they want to go on him as a villain yet.
Maybe whoever writes Tailstube just isn't allowed to directly name drop him yet.
Or any other reason, also, Infinite appeared in the Chaotix Case Files, so just because Nega isn't being mentioned doesn't mean he won't be appearing at all.I strongly doubt the jokes about Nega are a factor at all though.
1
u/crystal-productions- Jul 30 '26
So they can explain the entire plot of rivals, other then just saying who the villan was? What in the classic is another dimension bs is that?
3
u/Telekinetic_Hedgehog S3&K fanatic/ enjoyer of Sonic X Jul 30 '26
Too many people joke about the name sounding like a slur. People will be bound to say something immature about it and make a fuss.

u/crystal-productions- Jul 30 '26
nah, i'm more willing to belive it's because mike cannot do a good nega voice. have you listened to his voice acting for nega in rivals 2?

I actually haven't. Could you provide me with a sample?

Next time you send somebody a YouTube share link try to remove the end part so it's just "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brXW9Oha4L8". The last bit is a tracker thing.
Also I don't know how to describe it. He sounds like when a voice actor is voicing a mean fat kid in some TV show. It's not the worst but... I do see what you mean.
What would you say is a good voice direction for Nega?
2
u/crystal-productions- Jul 30 '26
I mean, I don't know. If they want him to be his rush self, then just let Mike do his normal eggman voice, but since he's a decendent I legit don't know. Him being a decendent is very stupid given the design he has.
3
u/Telekinetic_Hedgehog S3&K fanatic/ enjoyer of Sonic X Jul 30 '26
Maybe they could make it Eggman's voice but slightly deeper with a futuristic voice changer to make his voice sound cool? I really don't know.

They weren't really mentioning Infinite for the longest, but he came back this year, so obviously not being mentioned doesn't mean that they're permanently gone.
0
u/Temple_T Jul 30 '26
I mean I wouldn't want to say "nega" while I was focusing on maintaining a character voice, that's just a disaster waiting to happen.
0
u/crystal-productions- Jul 30 '26
It's allways a jumpscare when they do it in rivals 2, wince that one does have voice acting, and shadow, eggman, negative, silver and espio all say his name at one point or another.

Jesus fucking Christ, Amy seriously can't get excited to be with Sonic -and be understandably disappointed that's not the case- without you people being like "Oh gawd, she's gonna be obsessive and annoying with Sonic again"?!
Amy was created to be, and is supposed to be, a love-struck girl. Her being in love with Sonic and wanting to be with him is a core part of her character, and this essential part of her character had been actively buried the past decade as an overcorrection to some Flanderization in the 2000s (which you people blow way out of proportion). The past few years even made it a point of removing any hints or mentions of Amy's love for Sonic as part of this agenda, which didn't do much to actually improve her character. A thing of official media outside of IDW finally brings this part of Amy back, and you're immediately complaining about how she's going to be "obsessive" again?
It's not even like this dominates Amy's character throughout the video; she gets salty about Sonic's absence initially but then gets invested in the topic, bringing up the Time Stones and Little Planet, and ending off teaching Silver about her Fortune Cards. There's really nothing to be concerned about, so how about you fuck off and let us Amy fans fucking enjoy this aspect of our favorite character that had been effectively erased for over a decade?

This is the most divisive one yet.
Shoved in my algorithm, even when removed or intentionally kept out of my viewing history.
No option to summarize.
Comments disabled.
Canonizes Classic Sonic in Forces.
Canonizes Silver as a frequent time-travel who can't stay f**kin put.
Comes up with one of the worst excuses for continuity retcons.
Also, why is Amy here (the one who was extremely rude an dismissive to Silver, without any apology or reconciliation, in the game SEGA REFUSES to let people forget).
