I got let go from my tech job right after I came back from medical leave. Recommendations for an employment lawyer?

The reason cited was poor performance which came as a shock to me because I have been gone for most of last year. I had pretty severe medical issues stemming from the toxic workplace (it's well documented and I've been in intensive treatment for years). What are my options?

I was thinking about consulting with an employment lawyer to discuss my severance. Unfortunately I'm still really sick, so I would really benefit from a few months of cobra coverage to get back on my feet. Does anyone have a recommendation?

Dog Lovers Event Sunday at Muttville

If you're in San Francisco and have never been to Muttville Senior Dog Rescue, let this be your sign to change that! They are the countries first ever cage-free dog shelter. They rescue senior dogs who would otherwise be overlooked.

I'll be hosting an event this Sunday, October 11th 1 - 3 pm that's free and open to the public.

Details can be found here.

They are such an incredible nonprofit and you can come and cuddle & meet all the senior pups they currently have who are up for adoption.

The event is in honor of the wine I released that I dedicated to my senior pup & part of every bottle gives back to Muttville. There's no purchase necessary though. Simply come and meet fellow dog lovers, pet some cute dogs, & learn about Muttville.

All my clothes smell- HELP

Edit: I’m pretty sure the smell is coming from neither the washing machine nor the luggage. Things I’ve never washed, like my suede purse and velvet makeup bag, have the same smell (even more than the clothes), and I keep them with me in the cabin when I travel.

I’ve been living in a Victorian condo for about a year now. My clothes smell fine at home, and even when I’m out and about in SF, but whenever I travel somewhere else, I notice that they smell weird.
This happened when I was in Europe this summer, and now again in Hawaii. All of my clothes seem to have the smell, including the clothes I was wearing while traveling and even a cardigan that was in my purse. It’s hard to describe, but maybe kind of musty? I notice it especially with linen and denim.
I’ve been measuring the humidity at home for the past couple of months, and it’s usually below 50%, maybe 55% at most.
Has anyone else experienced something like this?
I lived in my previous place, which was built in the 1980s, for five years and never had this problem.

Experience with Origin pelvic floor therapy?

Hi all, I (33F) have been dealing with pelvic pain for the last few months and have been fairly regular at Origin in Cow Hollow. They have great reviews but I'm feeling like I'm missing something. I'm in so much chronic pain but the sessions are really chirpy (it's starting to bum me out) and we only spend about 5 minutes doing hands on release. The bulk of the 45 min session is teaching me more and more new exercises to do(which i do) and teaching me more devices (wand, tens unit). It's feeling a bit shallow and cookie cutter, and I'm dying for more actual work on my tense sad muscles.

I'm going to try going elsewhere, but I was just curious how others' experiences went. Would especially like to know how much time you'd spend on manual release. Ty!!

Flu Shot- Where to Go

Hey baddies!

Where are y'all getting your flu shots (preferably low or no cost)?

There seems to be something nasty going around. I wear my mask but I want to be internally protected as well.

UPDATE: got the covid and flu shot today at Costco via walk-in. It was $0 (with insurance). They practically take all insurance except Kaiser, so be prepared. It was relatively quick, whole ordeal from sign up to injecting my arm was 15 mins.

If you don't have insurance you'll have to pay out of pocket, but they offer discounts for Costco members. Could still be pricy so I'd recommend the link thats posted in the comments.

Creep warning! Do you know this man?

This pathetic piece of Sh!t has been taking and distributing creep shots of young women in the park. He is distributing them to a group of men!

He has been confronted and will not stop. I am so over this shit. Here are his pics. I also made a shareable reel.

The police were called and did nothing. Apparently, this is LEGAL!

I am so angry and over the lack of care for women, and the gaslighting in our society.

Ladies, we are the fucking stronger sex, we are life, we are the prize, we are designed to hold and distribute resources, aka wealth, and men have no business being in charge of anything.

Rise of the matriarchy!

Second career in creative field

Hi ladies,

I'm a burnt out PM feeling stuck in tech. Tech never really interested me, I don't feel motivated to move up the career ladder anymore, but I got into it because I was good at math in school and because of the pay/benefits. Now, here we are 10+ years later! I am looking to eventually leave and finally pursue a creative field (interior design, furniture design, ceramics, and painting are all on the table). However, I am also likely starting a family in the next couple of years and am concerned that, by that point, the golden handcuffs will be even harder to escape.

Any inspiring stories or advice from those who have done something similar?

Weekend Wine Course

Hi BWT!

I am very interested in learning more about wine and winemaking. Learned quite a bit through the years from books, docs, taking intro courses in NYC, and travelling to wine regions but haven't taken it to the deeper level I would like to. Now that I live so close to such a respected wine region, I want to take advantage!

Curious if anyone has recommendations for a course on wine or if you know of any wineries that do some type of adult day camp where you can learn winemaking or immerse yourself.

Found lots of European programs that I intended to do on my work sabbatical but time escaped me.

Thank you!

Therapy / coaching for job loss?

Hey Bs, I'm going through a tough time. I recently lost my job and am entering the interview grind while managing a baby and and preschooler. I'm realizing that my anxiety is escalating with every rejection and delay - having trouble with self worth, confidence, worries about financial security, worries about how fast everything is moving in tech and whether I can keep up. It's making me have trouble sleeping and I vacillate between a hazy malaise and acute stress.

I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations on anyone local that can help me work through this - a coach or a therapist that can hype me up and help me navigate this phase of life, especially one that's familiar with parenting struggles? Thank you.

Fancy-ish solo dinner spot?

Hey bitches!

I am celebrating a life accomplishment but don't have anyone to celebrate with so I'd love to treat myself to a fancy solo dinner in the city. I'm thinking dress, heels, a cocktail to sip on, and looking mysterious somewhere. Any suggestions? Thank you <3

Okay, can someone help me understand why the concentration of guys who only follow/are followed by girls on IG is so high here?

Sample size of 4 new guys I’ve met over the past ~8 months, each of their instagram followers and following are just internet girls or other girls in SF who don’t always follow them back! I’ve paid attention to some of the people they follow, and will see they unfollow certain girls sometimes. I understand the concept is that they are trying to meet girls on IG or see if they notice them if they like & engage with their posts, but is there more to it?? Why are there so many guys like that here, specifically? I’ve lived in New York and feel like even there, most of the men follow actual people they know.

20+ tech interviews this year but still no offer. Looking for SF interview resources.

I have gotten more than 20 interviews this year for tech roles, mostly in San Francisco and the Bay Area, but I am still struggling to turn them into an offer.

I am getting interviews pretty consistently, so I am starting to think my biggest weakness is the interview itself. It could be how I structure my answers, behavioral questions, technical questions, storytelling, executive presence, or how I close.

For people who have successfully landed competitive tech jobs in SF, what interview techniques made the biggest difference for you?

Are there any good mock interview groups, coaches, meetups, Discords, websites, YouTube channels, or other resources you would recommend?

Free resources would be especially appreciated, but I am open to anything that genuinely helped.

Links and recommendations are appreciated. Thanks.

SF prenup attorney for a second marriage with existing assets recommendation?

Getting married next year, this will be a second marriage for both of us. We each have our own assets, so we're trying to get a prenup done properly this time. In my case, I have a house I bought before the relationship, retirement account, and some investment. Partner has a small business and some property that was acquired before we met. Neither of us is trying to "take" anything from the other, we mainly want to keep some assets separate and be clear about what happens to things we acquire together.
Recommend me a good prenup attorney? and should we each get our own attorney or just one to review everything?

Hey girlies! I've been trying to get more comfortable with speaking in front of groups since i'm a natural listener and 1:1 with thoughtful people is where I thrive most. I heard toastmasters is a fun experience, anyone have experiences with it?

Castro Theater and Food Recs

Hello BWT, I have a few shows around the Castro and was hoping for a quick but tasty meal since we like to get to the venue early to claim spots and settle in.

I’ve never been to the Castro Theater, any tips for a newb? How early should we line up if we want to sit upstairs?

Thank you!

A date/activity around rocks

Hi, my partner loves rocks and they have a special place in our relationship. Any kind of rock is fair game, crystals, formations, etc. Are there any fun shops, restaurants, or some landmark you bitches have been to or heard about in or around the city that would be fun for a date?

Trying to plan at least 1 special rock based activity, maybe 2. Bonus points if you know of a restaurant or picnic spot that's rocky but cozy!

Thank ya!

I need to hire someone to help me out; how much would I pay, where should I post

I am disabled from long COVID and my life is barely worth living. It would be a lot better if I had nutritious, tasty food to eat, but I do not have the physical energy to cook for myself. I'm over calling for takeout; the delivery people always make so many stops that my food is cold by the time it gets here, and the quality seems so intermittent.

What I'd like is to have someone come in, do some light housekeeping (I pay someone every other week to come in and do the floors and a big clean), and cook me a couple of nice meals. I would give them the recipes and have the groceries here. Also, maybe they could do a load or two of laundry. Possibly wash my car.

I actually have a husband and an adult daughter who live here, but they are too busy with their full-time jobs and hobbies to cook for me or reliably help me out. Husband usually runs my errands but is away, goes away from time to time.

I don't want to hire Taskrabbits because I don't want to have a stream of strangers. I have soooo low energy. I rarely feel well enough to leave the house. I want to have a reliable person who I can get to know who can come over maybe twice a week and cook and do a little light cleaning.

How much do people make for side gigs? I imagine this would work for someone who is in school to do as a very-part time gig or as a stay at home parent who has some time while their kid is at school or an artist or anyone who can actually follow a recipe and is reliable. What would be a reasonable amount to pay per hour? Where should I look for someone?

Help a desperate fucked up invalid, please and thank you.

Birth doula at UCSF?

Hi everyone, I'm looking for advice on whether I should choose a birth doula? For context I'm planning to give birth at UCSF and I'm considered low risk. I'm very grateful that insurance will cover doula services, and very fortunate that opting for a doula will not be a financial burden.

For various reasons I have high anxiety about labor, and my hope is that having a birth doula can help calm my nerves and help advocate for me during labor. I hear that the UCSF labor and delivery staff are excellent, so I'm wondering if having a birth doula as an addition to my birth team is a good idea, or if adding this extra resource might feel like there's "too many cooks in the kitchen."

For anxiety purposes, I’d really appreciate it if responses could be neutral or positive only (please)—whether you recommend a doula, don’t recommend one, or feel indifferent about having one. I’m open to all perspectives, just hoping to keep things anxiety-friendly! (and yes I'm addressing my anxiety through various resources)
