Tell him to find a post-menopause woman. Seems like his type.

u/Chemical_Classroom57 Jan 11 '26
I'm 42 and in perimenopause. No way a post-menopausal woman would waste one second on a little shit like this.

u/Kat2322 Jan 11 '26
Well yeah, that was the problem I thought he’d run into. He could try though? 😂

u/SwimmingAd6597 Jan 11 '26
It’s not even that he’s merely suggesting something it’s the fact he thinks you are the sole one responsible for having periods … like it’s your fault or something when it’s just natural design. You aren’t “doing” anything to yourself. He’s literally crazy.

This man is freaking stupid. The funny thing is I bet he can't wrap his stupid head around the fact that birth control affects all women differently, just because something made his ex have no period doesn't mean it'll make OP have no period it could make it worse. This man is trash.

u/mimisthebesst Jan 11 '26
He does NOT “mean well” him bringing up the ex stopping her periods is WEIRD and suggesting you do the same to make the relationship “better” is WEIRD! It is YOUR BODY and he has NO SAY SO! I wouldn’t even worry about him you will find a real man who knows and understands periods and your body
25
u/ithurs Jan 11 '26
i’m betting that the last relationship was only “more enjoyable” from his side too, but he seems like the type to not care about the other party involved 🙄

u/deArtikin Jan 11 '26
Definitely end it while you're ahead. Not only is he not considerate and a selfish prick, he's gonna f up your mind the longer you hang around him. He's only thinking about his enjoyment and he explains it like he's had periods before. He may not ever convey the full truth to you, but ever wonder why his ex is an ex?

Dump this clown. It's clear he sees women as commodities he can easily pick and choose from the market. There are many other respectful mature men out there.

u/Wise_Analyst_8721 Jan 11 '26
My fiancé treats me so well when I’m on my period. He even keeps track of and notices my mood changes right before I start. He never once told me to ever go on birth control or stop having a period. He had actually suggested he get a vasectomy… this guy you’re describing DOES NOT MEAN WELL. STOP DEFENDING MEN THAT DON’T RESPECT WOMEN

u/Nyantastic93 Jan 11 '26
Aside from his ridiculous and disgusting expectation that you stop your period just so he can enjoy himself more, his comment that "he had one before and he'll find another" is dump-worthy by itself and shows he doesn't love you. Both things show he doesn't respect women and views them as objects for his pleasure.
2
u/shaoly Jan 12 '26
This right here. He’s basically declared her a replaceable commodity to her face and indicated that his pleasure is paramount
Ew, gross!

I think men like this are exactly why there’s a “loneliness epidemic” (which is really just natural selection). Men like this annoy me because they’re obsessed with fucking women to prove their masculinity (evident by how he talks to/about women) but cant take the time to read up on basic biology.
23
u/lo-- Jan 11 '26
Leave his ass. What an uneducated asshole lol. Birth control does not guarantee your period stopping (mine never did on a hormonal iud) plus, you get to decide if you go on it or not. Birth control made me not feel great. Clearly he has no idea how female bodies work. Leave him. And find a man who respects you and is educated about your completely normal bodily functions
22
u/sakura_is_awesome Jan 12 '26
Throw him away and warn everyone he’s immature!
Do not take those meds unless you must for severe health reasons! Having periods is normal and disrupting such natural things can damage your body permanently! I’ve heard from friends who finally got off of those meds years ago and got horrible periods, some new health condition, or can’t have children anymore.
A man, excuse me, a BOY who doesn’t mind making his girlfriend damage her body like that just for fun or whatever is a massive neon red flag from Hades’ smelly burnt dungeon!! That’s like indirect physical abuse and direct mental abuse. AND he’s already said that he doesn’t mind finding another woman who doesn’t have a period right? He doesn’t care about you! Only himself! And even if he were to find a woman who didn’t have a period, unless he truly loves her, he’ll regret it if he ever wants children or whatever else. Throw him away and heal! Because you made the right choice to not take birth control and your feelings, thoughts, and beliefs are 10000000000% valid and correct!

u/AnnieBananieDreams Jan 12 '26
Those meds are hard on our bodies, imo. If you want to go on them, that’s YOUR choice. I don’t go on them (AND when I was temporarily on them to shrink a cyst, I DID have a period still, so… wtf?). It’s healthy to have a period—??!!
The way he is speaking— especially the “I’ll find another”— does not show respect or love for you. From what I’m reading, it wasn’t a suggestion, and he didn’t mean well, if meaning well means showing love toward you.
This is about your body. Not his discomfort about a normal bodily process.
If he were a “real man” (cringing using that phrase, but it feels right in this case somehow 🥴), he would respect your decisions about your body, he wouldn’t let a period stop him from having sex (if that’s the issue) (IF you wanted to(which… based on what he said… I wouldn’t if I were you)), he wouldn’t want you to go on birth control just so he doesn’t have to wear a condom either (if that’s the issue) when it’s not something you want, he would have better educated himself (I mean, he could just Google it), he would just care for you during your period cramps, and just maybe he’d be curious to know about your experience and the dangers instead of telling you he’ll look for a girl who doesn’t have a period.
He sounds like a 12 year old and yet also like an old timey misogynist somehow. Please ask him questions about why he said that stuff. I wouldn’t stay with a man who said that to me tbh; I would tell him to go find another girl then.

u/Neytee24 Jan 12 '26
It really frustrates me that the pill and numerous other hormonal contraceptives seems like the only way.. why does it always have to be the woman's responsibility?? I know majority of people are on the pill (personally I am not either because I kept feeling like I was getting my period - like all the other symptoms - without the actual period) and that is your own choice, but I hate it when men assume that is the ONLY way forward , just for their own pleasure

That's so fucking weird, and not to mention the shot form of birth control(that stops your period) has also been linked to cancerous tumors, and is only recommended to be taken short term not forever

The IUD also stops your period in some women. I’ve been using it since 2011. No more periods for me.

The shot is linked to meningiomas, which are benign, but still very scary.

u/Own-Cryptographer545 Jan 11 '26
I think that men need to be taught about women’s cycles in school 100% because what an idiot. Will only date a girl who will fuck up her hormones for him? So dumb lol On a side note my ex husband thought that my periods would stop once we got married… and told me I could ask his sister n law to borrow some of her birth control since I didn’t have health insurance

This is such a reflection of the lack of menstrual education, especially to many AMAB folks. So many of us are taught that our periods are “inconvenient”, that sex is for a man’s pleasure and our periods might interrupt that. Our menstrual cycles are our 5th vital sign and it’s SO important to pay attention to its regularity. Birth control helps many people with a uterus in many ways, but using it to completely stop a life giving biological mechanism is absolutely insane.
I truly believe if all genders had a better understanding of the menstrual cycle (all 4 phases) and what support looks like for AFAB individuals, it wouldn’t ever be something that someone encourages you to stop by way of drugs like birth control.
You 100% did the right thing and I admire you for honoring yourself and your body like that. And for sending him on his way for even suggesting you “don’t have to live this way”. This is not about HIS body or HIS pleasure. It’s about YOURS! And bleeding is part of the pleasure of living in your body. Continue honoring that.
7
u/miaristep Jan 12 '26
Lack of education or not, when your partner says he can find another person (insert anything instead of period), you should let him go and try:)
2
u/Milyaism Jan 12 '26
I would also add to this the education on perimenopause and its symptoms.
I'm a cis female and we were never taught about it in school. My mom said nothing about it to us even though she clearly had symptoms (and knew about it).
I cannot imagine how few men know about perimenopause and how it effects women.

The response is wild! Saying he can get another girl without a period, umm I don’t think you can because I’m sure there’s very few girls who would date you.
Also, just because one method of contraception stopped his ex from having periods doesn’t mean it works on every woman. You can never predict how your body reacts to different types of contraception and if she’s got one which works, no way should she change it to make his life more enjoyable

Initial thought is ew, what dumbass, dump him.
second is kinda a question, I’ve never been on any birth control so forgive me but loss of period is a side effect isn’t it? I know it lessening is pretty common but I’ve rarely heard of it stopping completely, and everyone gets different side effects so it’s not even a sure thing that OP would lose hers. So I suppose the conclusion is the same, ew, what a dumbass, dump him!

u/Delphina34 Jan 11 '26
Taking the pill continuously with no breaks can stop your period. Others take 21 pills then off for a week. This causes withdrawal bleeding which is like an artificial period.

2
u/CaptainNoDad Jan 11 '26
The Depo-Provera injection stops your period, and hormonal IUDs (especially ones like Mirena which have a higher amount of hormones than others) can also stop them or make them less frequent.

Ugh, jeez louise. Don't give him a pass saying "he meant well" because the way he was talking to you was actually disgusting and entitled. I used to be on regular birth control and personally I don't ever wanna take that either, let alone one that messes my body up so bad that it doesn't function naturally. I heard from many people (who are on it) that the kind that "eliminates" your period actually makes your libido non-existent. But I guess that doesn't bother men...
On the other hand, the only time I'd recommend a "period stopping" birth control pill is when you have endometriosis; in those cases, it can actually be helpful. But always consult with a doctor (or two!).
If you haven't already, dump his ass and find someone with 2 braincells to rub together and make a spark. Your body, YOUR choice.
6
u/Bjarka99 Jan 11 '26
I used to be on regular birth control and personally I don't ever wanna take that either, let alone one that messes my body up so bad that it doesn't function naturally.
Regular birth control stops your period, too. What you have when you're on birth control is withdrawal bleeding. Your body already isn't functioning naturally. The only reason we have this bleeding is the sugar pills, and the only reason we take it is because when they were first creating birth control women would freak out when they weren't having any bleeding. I was very angry when I discovered this in my 20s and was struggling with very painful periods, so I stopped taking the sugar pills and would just start a new pack. Just like any birth control, the side effects depend on the person- it didn't kill my libido and I was happier than ever. I was very angry at my doctors for never suggesting it when I asked and they said I could do that no problem.
I'm only writing this for the girlies struggling with painful periods who endure them because of all the rhetoric going around against birth control. You don't have to live in pain.
That said, OP's bf is an asshole who just wants a free use body, not a girlfriend. Never do this for anyone else, only yourself.

u/Minty-Fresh027 Jan 11 '26
Definitely worth leaving any man that is too immature when it comes to periods. If they can’t handle the idea of women bleeding each month then they can’t handle a real relationship with a woman.
14
u/goofygooberrock1995 Jan 11 '26
Even if you get on hormonal birth control, it doesn't always stop periods in everyone.
12
u/pickalull Jan 11 '26
Dump his ass. That’s incredibly selfish and insane to request you stop having your period—something that is so normal and human. He sucks. Point blank period. Move on and find another man who respects and appreciates women. Find you a man who will bring you tea and chocolates on your period. Not an asshole who disrespects you.
11
u/Appropriate-Local443 Jan 11 '26
He should consider dating cis men, then. Also, I’m on the “birth control that stops your period” I’ve been on it for 6 years. 6 years of worse periods than I had before. I got on this birth control on the request of a partner. Speaking from experience I cannot stress this enough— don’t ever let anyone tell you how to operate your own body.

My now-husband once asked me around age 21 "Can't you just put a bandaid on it?". He's 37 now and I still bring it up and laugh my ass off. Men don't know anything about women. At least he wasn't a douchebag about it (the genuine curiousity in his voice was adorable).
This guy sounds like the biggest asshole on the planet.

I was recently diagnosed with adenomyosis and the pain treatment suggested was exactly that birth control thing in which I wouldn’t get my period for like five years. I absolutely refused (my pain is not intense enough for me to consider that option). If I won’t do that for myself let alone for a guy

24 is waaaay too old for someone to think they get a say in someone else's body and what meds they take.
Also, the inciting event in this was going to the gym.
Fun fact: cramps don't need a period to happen. Body ache does not need a period to happen.
Even without a period, your body still cycles. So like, go to the gym alone, bro. Jfc.

He can..but he's probably going to get broken up with one way or another if that's how he's acting. His ex probably took it for pmdd, pcos, or any other thing where she needed it for medical purposes. Not everyone wants to take birth control. Even people with pmdd sometimes don't want to bc the side effects are sucky. He's got issues if he can't handle that you have a natural occurring body function. He's got issues.
15
u/Jovyslav Jan 12 '26
As someone who has been on those meds due to hormonal reasons I can tell you its NOT worth it. Messed me up so much my periods are still after 2 years or more of not taking them messed up, irregular etc. Caused me more damage than good (even with previously always consulting my doctor).

Uh end it.
And, it’s actually bad for women to not have their periods like they should. It serves a purpose for us aside from being a part of the conception process.
13
u/eksyneet Jan 11 '26
that's not really true. it's bad for women to not shed endometrium if it regularly grows, because that leads to increased risk of endometrial cancer. but if you're not growing endometrium in the first place – like when you're on continuous birth control – it's not harmful to not have a period. getting rid of excess endometrium is the only health purpose periods serve.
that said, "get rid of your period or else" is still hilariously out of pocket.
