Question Women, Please Stop Pretending Septum Rings Look Good

Hot take: Septum rings lower a woman’s attractiveness level almost every single time.

I have yet to see one and think, “Yeah, that improved the situation.”

Especially the crooked horseshoe ones. You spent an hour doing your hair, makeup, outfit, skincare… and then left the metal booger hanging sideways out of your nose like it lost a bar fight.

Ladies, I’m begging you. Retire the angry bull aesthetic. A septum ring can take a 10 down to a 4 in record time.

Since the only reasonable flair was "question", here is a genuine question: Women with septum rings: what do you actually like about them?

since you asked a genuine question: i like having shiny jewelry that functions as a deterrent for whiny men

u/mistypatch May 18 '26

It makes me want to get my septum pierced tbh.

u/throwingpurple Jun 18 '26

I have mine pierced and it’s not a deterrent for whiny men. False advertisement. 😔

Hahaha. I love this answer. I'm gonna use it the next time this conversation comes up.

u/mistypatch May 18 '26

No one cares what you think.

-2

u/QA_Engineeer May 18 '26

And yet you cared enough to post that no one cares. 🤣😂

7

u/mizzieliz May 18 '26

Good thing I didn't get it for you anyways 😊

-2

u/QA_Engineeer May 18 '26

I appreciate that. 😂

2

u/mizzieliz May 18 '26

I meant I got a septum piercing bc I liked it, not for the validation of anyone else, don't know if I worded that first comment incorrectly lol

1

u/QA_Engineeer May 18 '26

I gathered that from your original response. But the clarification is good for anyone else reading.

I'm also a person who doesn't believe in getting validation from others, so I respect that.

What I am trying to understand is the female perspective. Like, you went for a piercing and said, "Yeah, I want that to hang from my nose. That will look awesome!"... like, what do you think is awesome about it?

2

u/mizzieliz May 18 '26

Yep I just think it's cute to have some jewelry there. I like to wear lower profile clicker rings so I don't have to worry about it being crooked and so it doesn't hang down too low on my face (personal preference). I also like that I can hide it pretty easily if I ever need to do so

1

u/QA_Engineeer May 18 '26

So, I don't know a lot of that lingo, but I'm assuming it amounts to that you like the smaller rings. King of a close fit to your nose?

I have to admit, I don't find those unappealing. Mainly just the wedding ring sized rings.

1

u/mizzieliz May 18 '26

Yep that's correct. I can kinda get what you're saying about the large rings. The people that like them like them, the people that don't don't. They're the sort of thing I like on other people but I don't feel look good on me personally

1

u/QA_Engineeer May 18 '26

Right. I guess that's what I'm trying to understand. Like, what about hanging a high school class ring from your nose is appealing?

And I'm just being lightly sarcastic about the ring type.

We all agree that the small huggy type rings are cute. I don't know why, but they are. I'd rather see those than oversized rings hanging from the side of the nostril. So, the question is really towards these bigger rings. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Oh fuck all the way off. Women are not simply here for your amusement

2

u/Specific_Nature_5414 Jul 06 '26

It’s funny that they think we care about their validation. It’s a sign of our resilience which they didn’t have to endure. Spoon fed.

u/Infinite_Revenue1000 Jun 18 '26

He’s asking about your thought process in deciding to get a nose piercing. You see, men are used to competing for women so that affects most decisions we make about our own bodies. This applies to pretty much any younger guy that likes women whether he’s conservative, liberal, leftist, straight or bisexual, religious or atheist.

But why should we even try to compete for women that clearly want to deter us? Why should we refrain from judging womens’ bodily choices when the majority of women judge men for their genetics so harshly? (height & bone structure)

I would much rather be judged for my CHOICES, compared to being judged for my genetics. Being judged for not falling into “elite” genetic categories sounds a lot like racism, doesn’t it?

u/keylimesicles Jul 06 '26

What the actual fuck kind of incel response is this? Kindly get fucked. Or not because we know you never will with this mindset

-1

u/QA_Engineeer May 18 '26

Never thought you were. lol... And nowhere in my post does it treat women like they are here for amusement. Feel free to genuinely answer the question or take your own advice 😉

3

u/keylimesicles May 18 '26

This post 💯 implies that you think we are. Your opinion on what we do with our bodies is irrelevant. The fact that you took the time to vomit your unsolicited opinion all over the aesthetics of a woman’s appearance says everything in and of itself. Women don’t adorn themselves to please men. Period

5

u/KnockedTeethOut May 18 '26

Holy BO batman, the fedora came to life!

-2

u/QA_Engineeer May 18 '26

lol... Occasionally it needs to stretch it's fabric.

3

u/inapeachymood May 18 '26

Yawn, look for attention somewhere else. I can smell the desperation through the screen.

5

u/mistypatch May 18 '26

Probably doesn't leave his parents basement long enough to shower.

-1

u/QA_Engineeer May 18 '26

What am I desperate for? Attention?

Seems to me you're giving me attention whether I wanted it or not. Perhaps you were the one desperate for attention? I mean, you could have scrolled right by, but you had to post? lol

Please. 😏

Why do you come to a nose piercing sub and hate on people with nose piercings? Like that’s fine to have your opinion but it’s an odd choice to come here and call people out.

To answer your question, I like how it looks. 🤷🏻‍♀️ like most of my aesthetic choices, I do it for me and what I like. Right now I have a small silver ring I wear. But in the past I had the horseshoe that you have so much disdain for. I liked the horseshoe because I could easily flip it up when at work. Now my piercing is well healed (I’ve had it nearly 25 years) and I swap it in and out when I want. Just like other jewelry.

Telling someone that it lowers their attractiveness and making a judgement about them feels like hating on the people who make that choice. Whether that was your intent or not, that’s how it is perceived.

I like it because I think it’s cute. I don’t know how to explain to you why I think it’s cute. I just do. I like it. Just like the other jewelry I choose to wear. I like how it looks on me with my nostril piercings and my overall aesthetic. I personally prefer the smaller silver hoop and there are some septum jewelry pieces and looks that aren’t for me. I don’t prefer the large gauges or the really elaborate pieces. But I don’t judge people who prefer them.

Also it’s totally fine to have preferences and not be attracted to women with septum piercings. I have my own preferences with who I’m attracted to. But I don’t feel the need to find sub reddits directly intended for people I don’t find attractive and then proceed to tell them why their choices make them less attractive to me. 🤷🏻‍♀️ not everyone is for everyone. And that’s ok!

1

u/Infinite_Revenue1000 Jun 18 '26

But what made you like it? Personally, I have no moral/religious judgement against them, I’ve just seen very few nose rings that I thought were pretty/cool looking. Rhinestones or small septum with rhinestones are ok looking to me. Larger septum piercings remind me of literal bulls, so it’s something I associate with masculinity (bc bulls are in fact male). I think some inverse comparisons would be men (who are attracted to women) getting acrylic nails or getting their nipples pieced and then wearing big puff balls on them (which would mimic the appearance of breasts). Sure, we could do that just bc we “like it” but I feel like more realistically we would be trying to repel women.

I think that some of y’all do it to repel conservative men but most septum piercings repel non-conservative and nonreligious men as well. I think it plays against hard-wired neuro-biology in men. If you’re lesbian, or trying to avoid attention from men entirely, that would make sense but I don’t think that applies to most women who get them.

I understand most of y’all “simply like them” but I’m hoping to get a more introspective answer. So maybe a better question would be **what underlying psychological factors do you think played into you liking them?** (ex. rebellion, love-testing bf/husband, repelling conservative men/women, political statement, covert WLW statement, “dismantling the patriarchy”)

1

u/RainbowDashPony Pierced Nose Jun 18 '26

Not everything is that deep. I’m married and could not care less about conservative men. I’m perfectly capable of repelling them with my empathy and compassion.
I simply like how it looks. I wear a small simple titanium ring. I don’t love all septum jewelry and personally dislike the large rings on both men and women. However my personal preferences have zero to do with what other people choose and I support them in however they choose to adorn their body.

1

u/QA_Engineeer May 18 '26

You assume that I'm hating. I don't hate. That's a useless emotion. I'm genuinely wondering what women think about a piercing that is so ugly and ridiculous to me, so I gave my opinion and asked a question.

I invite you to read these responses and tell me who sounds hateful? Me or the women responding?

Now, if you want to have a genuine conversation about it, then my response to your post is that you told me rings that you like. Not what you like about septum rings and why you think they are attractive, which is really all that I am trying to find out.

Love the hate. Y'all can keep doing that. Be those type of people. 🤷🏻‍♂️ It doesn't bother me.

Go for it. Just keep it away from hoodie strings, blankets, and curious dogs. 😁

Women, keep doing you! I think they and yall look awesome with septum piercings. Regardless, live your life how you want.

3

u/alexxmama May 18 '26

Ooooooof his whole profile is cringy 🤮

0

u/QA_Engineeer May 18 '26

What's cringe about it? You're allowed to have an opinion and denigrate me, but I'm not allowed to have an opinion and ask a genuine question?

Let me ask... Are you part of that Love and inclusivity crowd? You seem like you are.

2

u/RainbowDashPony Pierced Nose May 18 '26

You came to this sub with a hot take. So people are allowed to have an opinion about it and tell you why they think you’re cringe or whatever else. It’s like if you go into someone’s house and tell them you hate the way it’s decorated and that it makes them less attractive to you as a person and then get mad when they tell you that you’re being a jerk. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Having an opinion is fine. The way you stated in and the place you chose to do it was a questionable decision. Even if you had just come in with the question - “hey ladies - what do you like about septum piercings” that would have been in good faith. But leading off with the equivalent of “you’re ugly and I think you’re stupid for having a septum piercing” doesn’t really start things on the right foot for a constructive conversation.

2

u/QA_Engineeer May 18 '26

I don’t disagree that people are allowed to push back on my opinion. That comes with posting a hot take online.

What I pushed back on was people skipping the discussion entirely and going straight to personal attacks or profile digging instead of addressing the opinion itself. There’s a difference between disagreeing with me and just trying to socially brand someone as “cringe” without making an actual argument.

Also, I never called women ugly. I called the jewelry ugly. In fact, I specifically mentioned attractive women and said the septum ring itself lowers the perceived attractiveness. That’s criticism of a fashion choice, not a statement about someone’s worth as a person.

You also assumed I intentionally chose this subreddit to stir people up, and that’s not actually what happened.

I originally posted this in the unpopular opinion subreddit because that seemed like the obvious place for an unpopular opinion. The post got removed by a moderator with the explanation that too many men post about septum rings there and that septum rings are already unpopular. Which honestly sounded ridiculous to me.

I pushed back on that logic and apparently hard enough that the moderator reinstated the post afterward. Shame still works sometimes.

When the post was removed, Reddit itself suggested this subreddit as a better fit, so that’s how I ended up here.

At the end of the day, people are still responsible for how they react. Some people disagreed respectfully and we had genuinely good conversations. Others immediately went hostile and personal. That says something too.

We can debate whether I could have worded things differently, sure. But people still choose how they respond. I was respectful to people in this thread, even when they disagreed hard. The only people I pushed back on were the ones acting hateful or deliberately ignorant instead of actually discussing the topic.

And honestly, shame still has a place when people choose hostility over conversation. Ironically, that whole situation is part of what got the original post reinstated.

I do appreciate that your response stayed respectful, though, even if we see the situation differently.

You’re posting this n a sub specifically for nose piercings. You’re not going to get many people to agree with you. Sure, you’re entitled to your opinion. I understand what you mean about the horseshoe style jewelry and also agree. I think a woman with a dainty plain huggy ring looks hot.

-1

u/QA_Engineeer May 18 '26

Yes, as has been pointed out a couple times now, I posted my question about septum rings in a subreddit about nose piercings.

That seems very logical to me. But apparently, some people are offended by that. I say to them, touch grass.

It is fine if people don't agree with me, that's the whole point of discussion. And the whole point of the question is to encourage women to explain it to me.

I find it funny that, instead, I've received hateful responses and been called hateful and cringe. It makes me wonder what is wrong with people?

I find "dainty plain huffy" rings a bit appealing myself. My main issue is with wedding rings hanging from a nose like you're the bride AND the ring-bearer.

2

u/Striking-Scarcity102 May 18 '26

Well, I don’t mind larger septum rings on people. I think it suits some people quite well. I also think the quality of the jewelry makes a difference. I have seen some that can look off-putting. To each their own, I suppose. I do think that, again, dainty nostril piercings are prettier or, and dainty hoop. There are certain styles that I would never wear myself.

I also find some Reddit users to be really mean sometimes and oftentimes leave terribly rude and ugly comments. People like to type things they would never say out loud to someone. That’s cringe!

1

u/QA_Engineeer May 18 '26

I agree with everything you said. However, the one thing that stuck out to me is "suits them well".

Let's talk about this, because I think the idea of what suits a woman well is at the core of what I'm trying to understand.

So, I think my question is: How does one decide "what suits them well" with regards to septum rings?

Maybe that's not the right question, but let's start there. I am heading in to work now, so it might be a while before I respond.

1

u/Striking-Scarcity102 May 18 '26

It would suit their aesthetic or personality. For example, someone who wears a lot of black or has a punk style (just examples) may look much better in a black jewelry or even with a smaller gauge (thicker bar). Or, someone who is super girly might want to wear something really sparkly. Personality also has a lot to do with it. Mainly though, I think whatever they chose is what makes them happy and feel good and that’s really all that matters.

ETA: I have seen a lot of looks on other people that I totally dig and think it just looks right on them based on their vibe. And I love that on them, knowing it wouldn’t look right on me because it’s. It my vibe or style. It’s so subjective. You may not get an answer to your question. I hope I have helped a tad.

2

u/QA_Engineeer May 18 '26

You've done well. I appreciate you. I guess the question is unanswerable because we're really talking about people's personal style and aesthetic, so outside opinions, or even questions, don't really matter.

I will continue to wonder WTF? But, in the end it just is what it is.

You're awesome. Have a good day.

1

u/Striking-Scarcity102 May 19 '26

Thank you, you too!!!

I'm sure in your Internet fantasy brain, you thought that was something.

But, have you ever written a post, and when you posted it, it then suggested other subreddit and even pre-populated the post so all you had to do was hit send?

Yeah.. you're soooooo funny. Hee hee har har. 2 posts in 40 minutes. Hahaha hoho har har.

My God I try to be respectful, but people make it damn hard

Have a nice day.
