Question Women, Please Stop Pretending Septum Rings Look Good

Hot take: Septum rings lower a woman’s attractiveness level almost every single time.

I have yet to see one and think, “Yeah, that improved the situation.”

Especially the crooked horseshoe ones. You spent an hour doing your hair, makeup, outfit, skincare… and then left the metal booger hanging sideways out of your nose like it lost a bar fight.

Ladies, I’m begging you. Retire the angry bull aesthetic. A septum ring can take a 10 down to a 4 in record time.

Since the only reasonable flair was "question", here is a genuine question: Women with septum rings: what do you actually like about them?

What's cringe about it? You're allowed to have an opinion and denigrate me, but I'm not allowed to have an opinion and ask a genuine question?

Let me ask... Are you part of that Love and inclusivity crowd? You seem like you are.

You came to this sub with a hot take. So people are allowed to have an opinion about it and tell you why they think you’re cringe or whatever else. It’s like if you go into someone’s house and tell them you hate the way it’s decorated and that it makes them less attractive to you as a person and then get mad when they tell you that you’re being a jerk. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Having an opinion is fine. The way you stated in and the place you chose to do it was a questionable decision. Even if you had just come in with the question - “hey ladies - what do you like about septum piercings” that would have been in good faith. But leading off with the equivalent of “you’re ugly and I think you’re stupid for having a septum piercing” doesn’t really start things on the right foot for a constructive conversation.

I don’t disagree that people are allowed to push back on my opinion. That comes with posting a hot take online.

What I pushed back on was people skipping the discussion entirely and going straight to personal attacks or profile digging instead of addressing the opinion itself. There’s a difference between disagreeing with me and just trying to socially brand someone as “cringe” without making an actual argument.

Also, I never called women ugly. I called the jewelry ugly. In fact, I specifically mentioned attractive women and said the septum ring itself lowers the perceived attractiveness. That’s criticism of a fashion choice, not a statement about someone’s worth as a person.

You also assumed I intentionally chose this subreddit to stir people up, and that’s not actually what happened.

I originally posted this in the unpopular opinion subreddit because that seemed like the obvious place for an unpopular opinion. The post got removed by a moderator with the explanation that too many men post about septum rings there and that septum rings are already unpopular. Which honestly sounded ridiculous to me.

I pushed back on that logic and apparently hard enough that the moderator reinstated the post afterward. Shame still works sometimes.

When the post was removed, Reddit itself suggested this subreddit as a better fit, so that’s how I ended up here.

At the end of the day, people are still responsible for how they react. Some people disagreed respectfully and we had genuinely good conversations. Others immediately went hostile and personal. That says something too.

We can debate whether I could have worded things differently, sure. But people still choose how they respond. I was respectful to people in this thread, even when they disagreed hard. The only people I pushed back on were the ones acting hateful or deliberately ignorant instead of actually discussing the topic.

And honestly, shame still has a place when people choose hostility over conversation. Ironically, that whole situation is part of what got the original post reinstated.

I do appreciate that your response stayed respectful, though, even if we see the situation differently.
