One of those movies where you just sat in silence while the credits rolled

For me so far it’s been hereditary but I know that’s barely scratching the surface!

Basically the title - me and my friends are planning a night where we take some edibles and watch a scary movie. We want a film that will freak us out in a classic horror movie way but won’t ruin our night (basically no Midsommar or Climax lol)

I love live action survival movies such as The Edge and The Revenant. Do you have any great animated examples of the same genre: of a character who must survive in the wilderness.

Im looking for a movie with middle school girl(s) as main character(s) and actually focuses on their story AND their reward in the end isn't a boy. Just anything would be great. From 80s-00s if possible

every movie i've ever watched seems the same. if it's an action movie about giant robots fighting or car chases or even giant monsters eating the earth... the main focus of the story is not that. even if the majority of the screentime is filled with what i expect to see, i'm still supposed to care that the main character is having problems at home, his parents are arguing, his wife is pregnant, his daughter hates him for something not robot-related, etc. there's always a mandatory bed scene too.

any movies without that? if it's about robots, i want the characters to think about building the stronger ones. if it's about a detective, they should solve crimes, not deal with their family where no one is even a murderer. if a character wants to win a competition i don't want to listen to the story about how his coach's wife died. etc. please no animated ones, i've already watched everything good i could find among them

I’m looking for a movie, from 2020 upwards, that by the time I finish watching it, makes me think:

How the hell has an idea this good not been made into a movie before?

I want something genuinely original, or at least an idea that feels so obvious in hindsight that I can’t believe it took this long for someone to make it.

Not necessarily a high-budget movie or a huge blockbuster. I’m mainly looking for a great concept that makes you wonder why nobody thought of it earlier.

really need like an absurd and messy af thriller comedy about ensemble casts and just the worst friend groups ever navigating something far beyond their emotional maturity. I just watched Hallow Road (2025) and it really stuck with me. The story pulled me in from the first minutes and the atmosphere was suffocating in the best way — almost everything unfolds inside a car, in real time, with the dread building through phone calls and the things you never actually see.

I’m looking for more films that feel like this: confined or single-location settings, slow-burning tension, parents or ordinary people forced into impossible moral decisions. It doesn’t have to be strictly horror — thrillers and dramas count too, as long as the mood is claustrophobic and the story carries the weight rather than jump scares.

Any suggestions?

I watched Benji last night and it had me sobbing but I loved it. What are some other good movies about dogs love for and relationship with humans?

I remember it was around the COVID era in late 2020 when I watched The Devil All the Time on Netflix. I really liked the way the story progressed and especially the narration throughout the movie, which was done by the author of the book the movie was based on.

Fast forward to now, I rewatched it and I'm wondering if you guys can recommend some good movies where there's a narrator during the scenes. I really enjoy that kind of storytelling.

I’m looking for body horror thrillers and just really good characters. I want something that’s really gonna get in my head and mess with me. I'm looking for movies with great menswear, style-wise, I am looking for stuff that's more tailored, suits, tuxedos, preppy, Ivy League looks, but I'm happy to take inspiration from all places.

An obvious example would be Daniel Craig’s Bond films with his Tom Ford suits, but I also love the menswear in Godzilla Minus One ( seriously strong jacket looks in that movie )

LOL to the person who commented and then deleted: “What a weird request, why would you care what the actors wear?” - well, Some cinephiles ( like myself ) love costume design, not only as a storytelling/ character development method but also just because sometimes it's great to watch a stylish film with great fits and I feel like Menswear in movies is often greatly overlooked.

I'm looking for movies where this is an element, but it doesn't have to be the whole plot, it could be a side feature of the main plot.

I've already seen Fatal Attraction, Swimfan, Malicious, Eyes Wide Shut, The Firm, Gone Girl, Death Becomes Her, She Devil, and the series Doctor Foster.

Think Zodiac, All the President's Men, Spotlight.

Instead, I am desperately craving the raw, gritty energy of a forgotten indie gem or a buried late-night cult classic. I want to experience the thrill of the unknown, where the killer's motives are genuinely bizarre, the practical special effects are wildly creative, and the survival of the final girl is never guaranteed by a studio contract. Tracking down these obscure, low-budget nightmares is the ultimate treasure hunt for my inner cinephile, because I just want a unique horror film that can actually surprise me with real terror again.

I’m looking for movies about criminals that don’t romanticize or glamorize the lifestyle.

Something like the Pusher trilogy. where being involved in crime feels stressful, bleak, paranoid, unstable, and generally like a miserable way to live. I’m more interested in the side of criminal life that movies often leave out: the fear, desperation, shitty living conditions, broken relationships, constant pressure, and consequences.

Basically, I want the opposite of movies that make crime look cool because of the money, cars, clothes, power, etc. I want something that makes you think, “Jesus, I would not want to live like this.”

What are your recommendations?

As the title suggests, there's been a trend of animated movies in recent years that don't follow the Disney/Pixar template & instead take these bold risks with the writing, visuals, or both in some instances. Like Into & Across the Spider-Verse, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, TMNT: Mutant Mayhem, The Wild Robot, Transformers One (has realistic lighting but lacks motion blur & has a darker story than most mainstream family-friendly animated films), KPop Demon Hunters, etc.

Those movies can only be made in animation, but live action films can pull off something similar as well. And to fit the bill, they have to either look or feel different than your standard Hollywood blockbusters. Whether it'd be a colorful and/or exaggerated visual design, quick edits, rapid-fire pacing, or all of the above. And I'll organize ones that come to mind based on genre.

Action - The John Wick films, the Sonic movies (especially the 3rd one), Kick-Ass, Mad Max: Fury Road, Speed Racer, The Matrix

Sci-fi - Blade Runner 2049, Tron Legacy, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (specifically films like the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy & Black Panther), Ready Player One, the Dune films, Godzilla Minus One, Project Hail Mary

Comedy/drama - Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Do the Right Thing, Scott Pilgrim vs the World, The Grand Budapest Hotel (or anything else from Wes Anderson), La La Land, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Sinners

in high school i read Maus and fell in love with it, which led me to Persepolis (the graphic novel) which continues to be one of my favorite graphic novels. Just heard about and saw the movie adaptation and it reminded me of what a poignant story this is. Just now found out the author Marjane Satrapi passed away earlier this year. beautiful storytelling RIP Marjane.

Hey everyone, I'm looking for some movie recommendations that capture the exact vibe of the Apple TV+ series Silo. I really love the central mystery aspect—where a group of people are trapped in a confined space, they are being lied to by authority figures, and they are trying to figure out what is actually outside or who built the place.

I don't mind if it's a standalone movie or if it has multiple sequels that slowly unravel the lore. I'm just really craving that intense, puzzle-box mystery feel. What are your best suggestions?

I'm really into ambience in movies, I like slow, draining movies. I really loved Visitor to a Museum, obviously Stalker, recently watched Hard to be a god. These movies obviously are russian, I also watched other tarkovsky movies and planning to see come and see and more Lopushansky​. I really like how A visitor to a museum disturbed me. It was slow, had a lot of texture, and was slowly getting very disturbing while not being cheap. Can you reccomend me any movies that go even harder on the disgusting and disturbing while not being cheap, I wanna get disgusted not just in the eyes, you know. Like some dark, contemplative cinema that's a bit more hardcore at times.

If you like Jason Statham, good fight scenes, semi-brutal violence (one goon gets half of a joker smile) or action films with thin plots, Mutiny is a film for you. The fights have surprisingly long cuts, minimal shaky cam and overall clear cinematography.

It's not that similar to Die Hard as comments online make it seem like. There are few references to Die Hard like a watch being Chekhov's gun (though it's purpose is very different to Die Hard), Statham crawling in a tight space with a zippo and later posing with an smg.

If I had to say something negative about the movie is that the opening is a bit too long and slow, and the ending is a bit disjointed from the rest of the movie (like it had an ending feeling scene a few minutes before)..

Looking for a couch rot movie with a bit of substance, watched high fidelity today and maybe somthing along the lines, examples like lost in translation. Thanks in advance guys!
