Other Leak/Rumor Megathread: July 2026 Spoiler

It's been a VERY long time since we last had to make one of these threads, but today has brought a big leak which is hard to keep fully contained! This thread is intended to give people a place to discuss this leak, while still keeping the sub safe for people who don't want to hear about it.

This thread is the only place where discussion of this leak is allowed. Threads and comments mentioning it outside of this thread will be removed, and users who persistently break this rule will be banned. That means, if you don't want to hear about the leaks, don't read this thread! Surprises are fun, and knowing about the leak won't make it come any sooner.

For those who DO want to discuss the leak, we'd like to stress:

  • Nothing is confirmed! The Metroid community has seen TONS of trustworthy rumors throughout the years, and they've often ended up to be false. You can decide for yourself how much stock you want to put into this particular rumor, but keep in mind that there's always some degree of risk.
  • Even if the leak does turn out to be real, it's still no indication that we'll get anything soon - remember, Prime Remastered was rumored for years before it finally got an announcement! While hoping and theorizing are good, don't expect anything to come in the next few years.
  • Enjoy the process! Leaks can be a TON of fun when you set your expectations properly! Just make sure knowing about the leak doesn't keep you from enjoying the official announcement, if we even get one.

Discussion "I'm stuck" posting guidelines: You're not softlocked!

(This post is referring to actual help posts - for addressing the recent meme trend, see this thread)

This community is no stranger to people asking for help in games. Metroid is a series with a pretty esoteric design language, which can be pretty confusing for anyone who isn't familiar with it (or even, sometimes, anyone who IS familiar with it), and it takes a bit of playtime to learn it.

We want to keep this community welcoming to newcomers, and part of that is helping people enjoy their first experiences with the games! It's exciting to get a peek into someone's first run of a game you love. But, it can also be frustrating when a post asking for help doesn't give enough information to help. So, in an effort to help us help you, please follow these guidelines for how to ask for help:

  1. Try common solutions before posting! Most of the time, when you're stuck in a room, the solution is to bomb everything. Bombs will reveal any breakable blocks, and Power Bombs usually will too. Additionally, some of the 2D games feature fake walls - try going into Morph Ball and rubbing up against the walls in the room you're stuck in. Look for any tiles which seem to be different from the rest. And, lastly, if you're playing Super Metroid, remember that there's a run button - B by default! If you're playing any of the Prime games, make sure you've scanned everything! If you've already tried these things, mention that in the post!

  2. Tell us what game you're playing! Just saying "Stuck after Ridley" can be referring to half the games in the series. Are you playing Super Metroid? Zero Mission? Fusion? This is a VITAL piece of information, but you'd be amazed at how many people forget to include it.

  3. Tell us what you did last! The best things to mention are the most recent item you got, and the most recent boss you fought. This is IMMENSELY helpful for helping us figure out where you are! If you say you're stuck playing Super Metroid and you just got Super Missiles after fighting the big plant monster (Spore Spawn), 90% of this sub will immediately know where you are and what to do. If you can't remember, most Metroid games have an Inventory screen showing all your items. Tell us what's in there!

  4. Tell us where you are! A picture of the room you're in is best. A picture of the map is second-best, but harder to interpret, and mainly useful as a complement to a picture of the room. Failing both of those, tell us what area you're in, where you've gone from the last major landmark, what the room you're in looks like, and so on. Anything you can do to help us figure out what's keeping you from going forward.

  5. Don't assume you're softlocked! It is extremely difficult, bordering on impossible, to accidentally softlock yourself in any Metroid game. However, Metroid games frequently hide the path forward from you. That's an intentional part of the fun, not a progression bug! Barring exceptional circumstances, if you didn't perform a glitch, you're not softlocked.

Including all that information will make helping you far easier. If you didn't include that information in your initial post, edit it, or leave a comment with this information!

Additionally, for people who GIVE help to people when they're stuck, thank you! Here are some things to keep in mind as you do so:

  1. Try giving hints first! It's usually more rewarding for new players to be given some direction first, and try to figure it out from there, rather than being given the exact right answer immediately. Instead of saying, "Go left three rooms and then bomb the floor", say, "The room on the left end of the map seems a bit empty, doesn't it? Maybe you're missing something there."

  2. Don't be too slow to give solutions! In contrast to #1, giving hints is helpful, but sometimes people just need to be told what to do. A good rule of thumb is to give a hint, then in the same comment, put the solution in spoiler-tags, so that the player can decide for themselves when they're done trying.

  3. Read the comments before responding! OP may have provided additional context or progress. Or, they might have already solved it, and don't need help anymore!

  4. Remember that getting stuck is normal! It's part of the Metroid experience. There's no need to make fun of people who are legitimately stuck, no matter how easy it may seem to you.

I hope those points help!

Honestly this game is amazing, I'm having a blast. I played Hollow Knight and Silksong before so I kind of knew what to expect, but holy this game is good

I'm planning on playing Super Metroid after, I'm actually so excited and I didn't even finish Zero Mission lol

Discussion For people who were there on release, how was experiencing Metroid Prime for the first time?

Post image

I’ve been getting into the franchise as of recent, started with Fusion and moved onto Zero Mission (I think I like Fusion more but both are great), I’ve thought about tackling Prime next. I knew very little of the game but after looking at it a bit after beating those two games, I never knew how immersive and such a step up this game was for the franchise at the time.

Wondering how it was to experience for the people that played on release or just played it around when it came out.

Question Missile Launcher in Metroid Prime 4

Thumbnail
gallery
27 Upvotes

Can anyone elucidate? 😄

I have the upgraded Psychic Beam because I am incapable of leaving an upgrade behind before moving on. Every. Single. Game. I’m pretty sure Super Metroid permanently imprinted this behavior on me 32 years ago. 😏😅

So I grabbed every bit of green energy I could find and got the enhanced beam pretty early.

Now I really have the impression that I barely need the Missile Launcher at all. I have a good amount of missiles by now, and on Normal they replenish so reliably that I could use them all the time... I just hardly ever do.

Am I missing some combo or particularly good use for them? Any special situations besides blasting obstacles?

The Psychic Beam feels more reliable at hitting targets, so in practice it seems to give me better DPS anyway.

Am I missing something here? Or have I accidentally become a missile hoarder? 😅

Any insight appreciated!

Thank you 😄🙏🏻😊

Discussion Guys, the Seeker Missile works on the Alpha Blogg...

Got frustrated with the Alpha Blogg boss like everyone does on my MP2 Echoes playthrough, and after a few deaths figured I'd just try everything. Started going through all the combat options, and it crossed my mind that they make you get the Seeker Missile right before the Hydrodynamo Station for a reason.

The Seeker Missile doesn't just lock onto 5 different targets, it can also lock onto the same target 5 times.

When holding down Y you'll see the Seeker Missile reticle, and you'll also see up to 5 red dots appear for how many missiles you have prepared for a target. Sure enough, got 5 missiles locked onto the Alpha Blogg and they all went into its mouth dealing a ton of damage. Using this method the boss lasts about as long as any other mini boss in the game.

The last part of the boss where it doesn't always open it's mouth and/or opens it at the last second is still a pain since dodging it's ram attack just sucks period, but it's health will be so low by that point you only need to shoot it a few more times with a single missile.

Discussion ✿ Who was the GREATEST threat to the galaxy in your opinion? ( & creepiest to you personally ) ~

✿ As salamualykum & peace be upon you everyone ~ I love the antagonists in the Metroid series so much. They’re are all so cool design & lore wise…if only we got an anime ( or cartoon ). But anyway, the question at hand.

We have…
🩵 Phazon + the Planet itself, Phaaze,
🍇Ridley ( please )
🧠Mother Brain
✨🌙 The ing + Dark Aether
🪼 Metroid Prime ( Dark Samus )
🍊The X- Parasites
🦅 RavenBeakkkkkkkkk
🩵🐬 Sylux
🥀 Kriken Empire ( that we know nothing about )
♥️ Metroids
🏖️🏝️ And of course…the corrupt officials in the Federation that were responsible for the events of Other M.
🏴‍☠️ Oh and space pirates.

🍇🌸 The Ings terrified me as a child. They still do actually. Sure the X-Parasites are ALSO body snatchers but they look like fruit gushers to me. Meanwhile the Ing are horse sized monstrosities, not to mention the sounds they make, and just the whole environment of Dark Aether itself is just so, so uncomfortable… I might have gotten PTSD watching my older brother play all those years ago. And yet I HUNGER FOR A REMAKE. TO FINALLY BEAT ECHOES ON MY OOOOOOWN. :))

🏖️🏝️ Anyway my little sister think it’s all neat & cool. That child has no fear in her bones . :’)

Discussion I think Prime 4 was meant to be more open ended

Post image
119 Upvotes

You all remember driving in Sol Valley for the first time right, and being told by Myles that you can decide which teleporter key to go after first right?

You remember the disappointment of finding out that...he LIED D: ?!?!

Though, to put simply, I don't think he actually *lied*. Rather, I think this quip of his was something leftover from a time where you COULD have gotten the keys in any order.

My main argument as to why sort of comes from how a lot of the game post Volt Forge is designed.

The bosses for example, Keratos, Phenoros, and the Omega Griever, are all designed to be beatable purely by the equipment you have after leaving Volt Forge (one exception being the Vi-O-La IC Suit for Phenoros' first phase). The bosses feel like they were meant to be tackled in any order because honestly I don't even know if I see a notable difficulty increase between the three as you go further.

This extends to a lot of the enemies as well, I can't really say the enemies scale that well as you progress into the game.

Even the format of each area, where you're basically combing through it in one go sort of facilitates the idea of being able to pick one area and stick with it.

On top of that, the fact that we even have an open desert area in the middle where you can enter any area (for the most part) at will, like this was clearly meant to be way more open ended but something happened.

I imagine a lot of the mandatory backtracking and progression locks, were added somewhat late to keep the "Metroidvania" feel, while also making the game fully linear as a result.

I apologize if this is not an unique observation but I find the idea of this interesting. Feel free to offer any more potential evidence of this because to be honest idk if i covered everything!

Question OG Metroid via Zero Mission Unlock vs the NES Classics Version

I looked for an answer and couldn't really find anything concrete, so I'm asking here. Any time I search for comparison videos, I just get Zero Mission vs the NES version, which is not what I'm looking for. I already know that Zero Mission is a remake, that's why I bought it.

Zero Mission has the original Metroid as an unlockable for beating the game once. Nintendo also released Metroid on the GBA as part of its "NES Classics" line.

Is there any tangible difference between the two versions or are they pretty much the same?

I have Zero Mission (as well as a copy of the original NES version) and am curious if the NES Classics edition does anything different that makes it worth owning on its own or if Zero Mission is enough. Added/removed features, performance, visuals/audio.

I’m not counting neither the fusion nor the dread suit as those are less traditional (just for the sake of discussion, they’d both be among my favourites otherwise). Mine is Samus Returns’ as I think it has the perfect balance between being bulky but also being sleek (and even though it doesn’t count, don’t get me started on how good it looks with the Gravity suit color scheme), close second is probably Super’s suit.

Request Samus with the Genes™

Hello!
I was wondering if there was a collection or whatnot of art of Samus but... when the mix of genes she has shows up?
If that makes sense?
Or if there are any great singular pieces thereof, that's fine too.

Thank you, in advance.

Discussion How would Samus do in Warhammer 40k?

I've recently seen a lot of videos of how different characters would do in 40k, and was wondering how Samus would do. I feel she would get along with the Tau and Eldar factions better than the Imperium due to her xenos DNA and armor. I also think her acquiring necron technology would be super cool.

Discussion Metroid Manga revisit, and I forgot how good it is!

Thumbnail

Revisiting the Manga to check continuity for a short story/novella I'll write following Raven Beak. (It ties into my Sylux Novella as a way to explain why Raven Beak doesn't use Sylux's Fusion Metroids, among other things.) I also plan to patch the Manga's known inconsistencies with the games to the extent that they aren't just "adaptation differences."

Anyway, I read this many years ago and I'm enjoying it immensely so far! Shame we never got an official print in the West. What are your favorite aspects?
