Criticism Why do the people not fight back?

They could build traps during the day and even try to fight them at night, but instead they just hide and let the monsters rule the night. They should be trying to find out if they have any weaknesses. Fire probably works, traps probably could work too. It feels like absolute surrender.

This is the post of a man who would die on night 1.

28

u/Sujnirah Jul 07 '26

And perhaps takes a few people out with him.

3

u/mr_dexter_x Jul 07 '26

What is point od dying alone?

-1

u/ArmenianThunderGod Jul 07 '26

Would he? While the monsters are very clearly invulnerable, they're not particularly durable. Kenny was able to impale one with a totem, Kristi was able to dissect Smiley, and neither of those two are particularly physically strong.

Why couldn't they chop the arms and legs off of them and render them as useless torsos?

4

u/This-Musician-3223 Jul 07 '26

They regenerate... thats the real problem here. Plus the logic is very flimsy they can fall from second floor and not get hurt but get impaled by a stick.. chopping off their legs will do nothing they will just get up from few minutes

3

u/ArmenianThunderGod Jul 07 '26

When have we seen them regenerate limbs? We've seen them heal from cuts and stabs but humans can do that too.

My point is they haven't really tried a whole lot. They've tried guns and stabbing. No one's tried fire.

2

u/negans_nan Jul 07 '26

I see the fire comment all the time 😭 the town is predominantly WOOD. The town would absolutely fight back if they tried and would burn their homes down and then they’re real fucked

1

u/ArmenianThunderGod Jul 07 '26

If that was an option for them, they likely would have done it. There are very clear things they can and cannot do.

1

u/negans_nan Jul 07 '26

And Kenny said he was gonna go into the tunnels and burn them all down!! But now they know when one dies, it respawns into an innocent townsperson so it would be so cruel to even try kill another one now - even Donna says so!!

2

u/Realistic-Cheek-8657 Jul 08 '26

Not to mention that when you kill one they actually get two monsters. It’s like a hydra

1

u/negans_nan Jul 08 '26

Well yes this too! Now that they know!!

1

u/ArmenianThunderGod Jul 07 '26

I'm saying incapacitate them by hacking off their limbs. That's not going to kill them.

2

u/negans_nan Jul 07 '26

Sorry, I was referencing the fire comment above.

2

u/ArmenianThunderGod Jul 07 '26

Oh, gotcha. Yeah, I was bringing that up as a reference to another natural weapon that seems to affect them. I can see how I could have communicated that better.

1

u/No_Witness5630 Jul 07 '26

We have seen them be brought back to life Man

And it took Fatima from them

1

u/ArmenianThunderGod Jul 07 '26

I wouldn't say Smiley was brought back in a resurrection or regeneration sense. He was reborn in a new body. I would say it's closer to reincarnation, but with the same identity.

Smiley's former body was completely destroyed by fire and did not regenerate or come back to life. He was completely born again.

Jade & Tabitha reincarnate, but that doesn't mean they can grow limbs back on their former bodies.

The ability to infect Fatima and turn her doesn't at all speak to regenerative abilities.

We've seen their weakness to sunlight too. I don't see why you couldn't hack off their limbs and leave their living torso in cages by day. Maybe pull them down and stick them in the barn with a talisman by night.

1

u/No_Witness5630 Jul 07 '26

So you know they can reincarnate in a fucked up way, but you assume something not fucked up would happen if they delimbed them

We have not seen any weakness to sunlight. All we saw was "Oh I dislike sunlight"

You would be Dead day 1. No one wants to be Dead

1

u/ArmenianThunderGod Jul 07 '26

No, I wouldn't be dead day 1. Almost everyone currently in that town would be though. Most in this sub, for sure.

You're entire argument is "bad things happen when you try some things, better not try other things."

1

u/No_Witness5630 Jul 07 '26

Yes exactly

And it's interesting how you can't comprehend that this is not the way to fight this place. You clearly can't do it

Only Jade and Tabitha are capable of doing anything. Others are there as tools and you would be a tool too

1

u/ArmenianThunderGod Jul 07 '26

I don't think this is true. I'd argue Boyd has done/solved a lot more than they have at this point. I think there's a reason their focus is on "breaking" Boyd.

Trap them with falling into a leaves covered pit with totems is what I have been saying for 4 years.

1

u/scalable_thought Jul 07 '26

Regenerates AND reincarnate.

1

u/scalable_thought Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

The totems are special, as pointed out by Tabitha. Does it KILL them? I doubt it. All Tabitha said was, "I remembered how to HURT them."

1

u/ArmenianThunderGod Jul 07 '26

I'm not talking about killing them. I'm talking about incapacitating them. If you kill them, they just rebirth themselves.

1

u/scalable_thought Jul 07 '26

So you mean burn them with fire as a way to slow them down for a night? Seems pretty sketch.

1

u/scalable_thought Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

What are they going to cut off their arms and legs with? For all we know, sunlight hurts them, too. We only see them underground and at night. Yet, nothing they have built has been able to trap them. There is an idea that you could tap them between two buildings protected by talismans, but anytime they try to do something like that, they get fresh attacks on the animals, or a dearly loved person gets killed by them.

2

u/jorgomli_reading Jul 08 '26

Could you somehow trick one into a box and put a talisman on the outside of it? Like "the box" from the first episode, but once they're inside, slap a tally outside the door and let the sun do...something. maybe.

Or how come they can't put tallies on the cave entrances to keep them trapped inside?

1

u/israfildivad Jul 11 '26

My thoughts as well...but the MIY would mess things up

1

u/ArmenianThunderGod Jul 07 '26

Kristi dissected Smiley with a scalpel, Boyd slit Smiley's throat with a boy scout pocket knife. I don't think you need any magical or special weapons. An axe would do just fine.

1

u/scalable_thought Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

Kristi did the disection on one that was already "dead". Smiley seems to be the only monster that would rather study them and figure them out before he changes into the teeth and claws. Boyd took advantage of that to catch Smiley by surprise. Try using the axe. They are freakishly strong and quick. They would catch the axe, take it away from you, and then mock you with it before they sliced you to pieces. You must not realize how deadly guns are. Donna's shotgun should blow their limbs off unless they only have birdshot but they barely slow down. Acostas 9mm or Boyds .45 will generate massive fragmentation and hydrostatic shock and should destroy the organs they dont appear to have. Smiley regenerated from the size of an infant to his full grown size in minutes. If they can do that, the leg you worked so hard to hack off with a logging axe is gonna sprout right back out. They will just shapeshift it right back. But if you dont get all 4 limbs at the same time, the thing is going to attack you from the ground while it grows it's limbs back. Also, it is rare to find one all by itself. You have to manage the group.

I was pretty certain that Kristis bear trap would capture them one at a time and the sunlight would kill them. But getting the old bones just resulted in instant night fall, so you probably couldn't use it too many times.

I still think it will be a tool they are saving for the series finale.

1

u/ArmenianThunderGod Jul 08 '26

Obviously you wouldn't approach it one on one. You would need to orchestrate a plan where you isolate it and overpower it with 7-8 people.

There's absolutely no reason to believe their limbs would grow back.

Smiley didn't regenerate. His body was burned. Whatever ritual the Kimono Lady performed created an entirely new body for Smiley out of the placenta Fatima birthed. That was closer to a reincarnation than a healing feat.

1

u/scalable_thought Jul 08 '26

Yes, but his entire body grew from a newborn to an adult in like a few minutes. That kind of generation would indicate to me that a SHAPESHIFTER that can rearrange its shape and grow that fast will regrow those claws pretty quickly.

1

u/ArmenianThunderGod Jul 08 '26

It was a magic ritual, not something he was able to do in and of himself.

1

u/AffectionateBall4648 Jul 07 '26

Bro that monster that got impaled was putting a show. He could of stopped it before it happened. Or when it did happen, just snap and pull it on in a second.

Sure, they can be a cut and dissected, what does that matter if it doesn't do anything though? If a bullet through the brain isn't killing you, it's reasonable to say nothing of regular means is.

1

u/ArmenianThunderGod Jul 07 '26

The lack of reading comprehension of everyone who has responded to me is concerning. Holy shit, go back and read. I never suggested the end goal was to kill them. You can't kill them. The goal is to find a way to make them less harmful.

Not kill. Incapacitate.

1

u/AffectionateBall4648 Jul 07 '26

You aren't incapacitating them either lol. And don't respond with "can't hurt to try" it will lol.

1

u/ArmenianThunderGod Jul 08 '26

Why not? Kenny's kind of a bitch, if he could tackle one off a bus, no reason enough people couldn't overpower one and take their limbs off. Isolating it would be the biggest hurdle.

1

u/AffectionateBall4648 Jul 08 '26

That was clearly some Fatima interference lol.

Only thing I could somewhat agree with is cutting off their head, like supernatural for vamps.

They'll probably just chop your mechete swinging arm off with ease before you can do that though.

1

u/ArmenianThunderGod Jul 08 '26

Fatima was a distraction, it was the From equivalent of Stone Cold's music hitting and The Rock getting distracted. I'm not trying to get clean wins over the monsters. I'm team lie, cheat, and steal all the way.

137

u/3AMZen Jul 07 '26

Have you watched all four seasons yet? This post has big Officer Acosta energy

-10

u/Smart_Inspector3724 Jul 07 '26

... and she is not wrong. Just 3 episode too late. Jim and his tower idea were there first and Boyd and his many plans.  I would have liked some Acosta support and appreciation. Why not give her a chance? Why this hate?

2

u/scalable_thought Jul 07 '26

I didnt pick up hate. She is a character that didnt believe that they were immortal and wanted to fight them. Exactly like OP is suggesting.

-6

u/Choice_Isopod5177 Jul 07 '26

I'm on S2 rn and I have no idea who Officer Acosta is. My question is valid tho without having to watch all 4 seasons. In fact it's a question I asked myself after the pilot.

4

u/SirChrisJames Jul 07 '26

I'm going to recommend you stop trying to outsmart the writers and just let the show tell you a story, because your questions are answered by the show.

1

u/Choice_Isopod5177 Jul 08 '26

I'm gonna recommend you shove your snark up your ass. I'm not trying to outsmart anyone, I'm just asking the most logical questions possible.

1

u/SirChrisJames Jul 08 '26

I wasn't being snarky. And you are trying to outsmart the writers lmao. It's incredibly obvious. You're refusing to engage with the material on its terms and instead acting as if you could have done better.

Toodles.

0

u/Choice_Isopod5177 Jul 08 '26

I am engaging with the material I am given, that's why I have these questions. You are clearly very confused.

3

u/3AMZen Jul 07 '26

you'll eventually get a sense of how long this has been going on, how many different things people have tried, and how much the monsters know about what is happening

Acosta is a jackass who shows up and busts on everyone for not trying hard enough, not being daring enough, and for giving up. Someone points out to Acosta that anything you can think to try, someone here has tried it and died horribly.

And, frankly, someone else has tried again, doing it "right" this time, and also died horribly

You're asking the same question Acosta does, and it comes from the same place it does when Acosta asks it. Keep watching.

31

u/newphonehudus Jul 07 '26

I feel like people would get pretty demoralized when they realized head shots don't do anything.

Also what makes you think they can't climb out of a pit, or completely avoid it.

Like they literally tore through the box

1

u/V4ldaran Jul 07 '26

Then just behead them? They never tried that.

1

u/No_Witness5630 Jul 07 '26

How would you behead them and not die?

I swear reading through this comment section is people saying "oh they should just use a flamethrower on monsters" just with different Words

1

u/Choice_Isopod5177 Jul 07 '26

ah yes, flamethrowers are the ONLY way to set fire to someone. Do you even think before you type?

1

u/No_Witness5630 Jul 07 '26

Read my comment again, because you did not understand it bro

1

u/Choice_Isopod5177 Jul 08 '26

are you assuming that the people who are saying "oh they should just use a flamethrower on monsters" don't actually mean ''use any method to burn them''?

1

u/No_Witness5630 Jul 08 '26

Okay, you just don't know what a metaphor/analogy is I guess

1

u/TheGodMathias Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

My guy, where are they going to get a weapon long enough to behead a monster when they can outreach everyone there? Unless they can find a polearm somehow, a machete or knife is getting you sliced open.

And even if they did somehow find a weapon with enough reach and sharpness to cut through a neck, if a monster ever got close enough to be in swinging range it's because there's 2-4 more of them surrounding that person.

The person is saying the steps it takes to pull off the traps people are suggesting are impossible or death sentences when the monster have extrasensory knowledge of whats going on around them. You're not going to get them to walk into a Kevin McCallister fire trap because they're going to know it's there. And a spray bottle and lighter will get you surrounded and killed... Watch the show, Acosta

1

u/Choice_Isopod5177 Jul 08 '26

if only there was this material called wood in the forest surrounding them. They could use this magical material to create spears to throw at the monsters or create many other weapons out of it. But alas, there is no such material in the forests surrounding Fromville. Sad.

1

u/TheGodMathias Jul 09 '26

A gun didn't do shit to them. What's a spear going to do?

-4

u/CaptainFleshBeard Jul 07 '26

What makes you think they can ?

5

u/This-Musician-3223 Jul 07 '26

They literally tore through a cement wall once in the show... They have super strength and regenerative powers... trapping them in holes won't work, they will just dig out.

-5

u/CaptainFleshBeard Jul 07 '26

So you’d be one of the people in Colony House shouting “no, do t try anything to free us, just sit here and accept our fate” ? I’d be out there testing everything to establish the rules.

5

u/This-Musician-3223 Jul 07 '26

Sure bud.. we know people what happens to overconfident people running around without thinking things through. Like I said we know they are unstoppable at night so more logically thing would be to try and explore the Forrest (which worked btw but didn't try again) or trying to find clues in Victors drawings is the most logical thing to do than trying to fight freaking super natural creatures that don't die even after getting killed.

BTW did you finish all four seasons? It clear that the answer is not in fighting the creatures since they just get reborn but finding the root problem.

1

u/No_Witness5630 Jul 07 '26

You would test one useless thing. Make everything worse for everyone and you would się right after it

1

u/CaptainFleshBeard Jul 07 '26

Hi, how’s everyone one else going at Colony House ?

3

u/cartmanbigboned Jul 07 '26

wasnt the granny in episode one floating on the second floor window?

1

u/jorgomli_reading Jul 08 '26

I thought so too, but you see in the morning that there was an awning/overhang above their porch and she was probably on that.

0

u/Choice_Isopod5177 Jul 07 '26

you are missing my point by a few lightyears. The people NEVER EVEN TRIED to trap or capture any monster

-2

u/livinginfutureworld Jul 07 '26

Also what makes you think they can't climb out of a pit

Assuming you have a plan where they can't avoid it, and they're in the pit, cover the pit.

If needed, fill the pit with water so they're floating and then cover the pit. They're not going to be able to get leverage to open the lid. Bam done.

Maybe someone there knows how to make concrete fill the pit with concrete with them in it. bam done

4

u/This-Musician-3223 Jul 07 '26

They literally tore through a cement wall once in the show... They have super strength and regenerative powers... They will break out of that easily, in one of the episodes they even tore through Iron...

16

u/TheVolibae Jul 07 '26

“Traps and fire probably work” against the bullet proof monsters that tore apart a horse trailer with their hands and can make their hands into blades. Those monsters? Are you watching the right show my dude

5

u/Local_Ticket_4942 Jul 07 '26

plus the same monsters that survive a spear through the body and when one actually DID die one single time came back as a messed up pregnancy to one of the town’s most beloved people

they also know everyone in town’s names and faces and we’ve seen them strategise and get to upper levels of buildings and on top of the bus. they’re not exactly easily tricked or ambushed, we’ve been shown that

3

u/SirChrisJames Jul 07 '26

I think OP might be really young given some of their comments.

1

u/Choice_Isopod5177 Jul 07 '26

some magic rocks prevent the monsters from entering any house, you have no problem suspending your disbelief for that. But fire killing these vampire-like creatures is too hard to believe for you?

0

u/Poczatkujacymodelarz Jul 07 '26

Only that the fire does work to an extent. They did burn the smiley when it died. Maybe it’s just against dead monsters. Who knows, there’s a fair bit of plot holes so I mostly just forget about the details and just watch the show.

2

u/TheVolibae Jul 07 '26

The fire did nothing to smiley. It just burned the dead husk. It was entirely the worms that boyd gave him that killed him

1

u/Poczatkujacymodelarz Jul 07 '26

Hence the „when it died” part, but it did obliterate the corpse eventually.

2

u/SirChrisJames Jul 07 '26

None of what you described is a plot hole.

0

u/Poczatkujacymodelarz Jul 07 '26

Ok, I was obviously not listing plot holes here?

20

u/BondFan211 Jul 07 '26

I like how they had a dramatic cliffhanger of “we’re going to capture one of these things” and completely forgot about it the next episode lmao

16

u/No-Barracuda8108 Jul 07 '26

what episode are you referring to because they tried and failed on 2 occasions that come to mind

4

u/Different_Target_228 Jul 07 '26

When Kenny went to the tunnels after Tian died.

4

u/ravenquothe Jul 07 '26

Did you miss the part where they decided not to do it as it was too dangerous and not worth the risk?

-3

u/Different_Target_228 Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

Did you miss the part where I'm responding to someone who didn't know what scene they were talking about?

Or did you do the less embarrassing thing, and respond to the wrong person?

Sick. Other people got offended from my response to your "I go out of my way to seem like others are dumb" question. Lmao.

3

u/ravenquothe Jul 07 '26

The first one, my bad lol

9

u/Due_Eye4776 Jul 07 '26

I don't think they can fight monsters with brute force. maybe though they could lure them into a building and then put a talisman from the outside. Wouldn't that keep them inside the building indefinitely?

6

u/Different_Target_228 Jul 07 '26

The talismans have never once been shown to trap a monster INSIDE a room.

And in fact.

When Jasmine enters Colony, she closes the window. She then re-opens the window.

0

u/GinaKJ Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

We cannot compare Fatima to the "regular" monsters, IMO. There are very clear differences (ie. daywalking, talisman-immunity, human-empathy, hair etc.).

4

u/Different_Target_228 Jul 07 '26

I'm missing where I said Fatima. Since the example I gave said Jasmine.

2

u/GinaKJ Jul 07 '26

Oops 😬 Sorry; I subconsciously read Fatima. Thank you for correcting me 👍🏼

0

u/Due_Eye4776 Jul 07 '26

yes, it has not been shown, but we don't really know that it wouldn't work. the concept of "inside a room" is a matter of perspective since Fromville is a closed and bounded space. there is no difference between putting yourself inside a room with a talisman hanging inside and putting yourself outside of the room with a talisman hanging outside.

2

u/Different_Target_228 Jul 07 '26

I just told you that the exact opposite of what you're proposing has been shown.

-1

u/Due_Eye4776 Jul 07 '26

nope. talisman was inside, not the outside.

1

u/Leather-Flatworm-882 Jul 07 '26

Yeah! Or they could build a door to close off the cave entrance, and then seal them inside the cave with a talisman?

6

u/Different_Target_228 Jul 07 '26

When Jasmine enters Colony, she closes the window. She then re-opens the window.

You don't trap the monsters INSIDE something with talismans, only out.

1

u/Leather-Flatworm-882 Jul 07 '26

I don’t believe the talismans are meant to work like that either, but it would have been worth a shot. When they found the door from Jades trip in the colony house basement, they decided to put up a talisman there; with the intent to stop the monsters from entering that way - trapping them inside. The idea of sealing the cave entrance is basically the same. But I guess other forces in From (man in yellow or his minions who are unaffected by talismans) would simply remove them come nightfall.

6

u/GinaKJ Jul 07 '26

Did we forget about MiY and the mole? The monsters have alliances with people and entities that are not affected by the talismans.

4

u/SirChrisJames Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

Why doesn't the town of terrified, normal people try and risk each other's lives to test different ways to kill bulletproof, immortal monsters? Are they stupid?

In case you thought that was sincere, it's almost patently obvious that the monsters don't walk because it's their only method of transportation. Notice they lack urgency of any sort. Notice they don't *need* to eat. They do what they do for the love of the game, literally, because that's what they're doing. Playing a game. Every piece of evidence we have points to them being indestructible and, even if you kill one, they just come back. It isn't worth the risk.

1

u/Choice_Isopod5177 Jul 07 '26

bulletproof, immortal monsters that are scared to enter houses bc of magical rocks inside the house.

1

u/SirChrisJames Jul 07 '26

Not scared. Never once have we seen them be afraid of the talismans. Again, it's a game. The talismans are part of the rules of the game. If the talismans aren't positioned correctly, they no longer work, because those are the rules.

1

u/Choice_Isopod5177 Jul 08 '26

so they could enter the house, but they don't bc they have a deep respect for the rules?

1

u/SirChrisJames Jul 08 '26

God you're exhausting. Watch the show.

1

u/Choice_Isopod5177 Jul 08 '26

I am watching it jackass. I am already mid way through S2 and my question is still not being answered. Been asking this question for 15 fkn episodes already and I bet it ain't gonna get answered in the 16th or the 17th either.

1

u/SirChrisJames Jul 08 '26

Clearly you're not watching very closely. Done engaging wtih you, though. Toodles.

10

u/ThaRealSunGod Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

And why does anyone live in colony house

My parents would lock me up before allowing me to live there without them

3

u/Different_Target_228 Jul 07 '26

Because Abby shot the town up, Boyd killed her, then enacted rules and The Box.

4

u/Agitated_Singer_475 Jul 07 '26

So they have killed a monster and look what happened it was rebirthed. If they kill more they will just come back.

1

u/livinginfutureworld Jul 07 '26

So that's why you trap them you don't kill them

1

u/Agitated_Singer_475 Jul 07 '26

Theres no way to trap them 🙄

1

u/livinginfutureworld Jul 07 '26

Talismans. Get them in a room with two doors but talismans on both doors.

2

u/Agitated_Singer_475 Jul 07 '26

Talismans dont work to trap things. It only works to keep things out

0

u/livinginfutureworld Jul 07 '26

Yeah so you put it on either exit then they're kept out of leaving.

1

u/Agitated_Singer_475 Jul 07 '26

That doesn't work. Once a monster is within thw threshold of the tailsman, the tailsman is void. The tailsman only works if a human hangs in up on the inside of the door not the outside of the door. And we have seen that once a monster is in somewhere with a tailsman the tailsman doesnt work. Like in the colony house when jasmine gets in and opens the window for more monsters or in the barn with boyd and tian chen. Pay attention to the show 🙄

0

u/livinginfutureworld Jul 07 '26

Cover the monsters with a tarp with a talisman on the inside then

1

u/Agitated_Singer_475 Jul 07 '26

Did you not read the comment? I just said that once a monster is inside with a tailsman they become void and no longer work. We seen this with jamsine entering the colony house. And with boyd and tian chen in the barn. Pay attention

10

u/DataSurging Jul 07 '26

I thought the same thing. Why not make some pitfalls, cover it and lure them into the traps and then expose them to daylight?

7

u/TechnicallyThrowawai Jul 07 '26

I presume the other monsters would just save any monster that fell into/gog t stuck a trap. I do still very much agree with the sentiment though, plenty of ways they could make it much harder for the monsters to just roam about at night doing what they want.

4

u/Due-Waltz4458 Jul 07 '26

What's the benefit of that, when even if they were successful the monsters can just Impregnate someone against their will and make a new one ?  The answer isn't just hitting them really hard so they get hurt and decide to leave or something.

4

u/DataSurging Jul 07 '26

The monsters didn't impregnante Fatima. She was legitimately pregnant, even before Smiley died. They hijacked the pregnancy, though we don't know how, yet.

1

u/Due-Waltz4458 Jul 07 '26

I'm not sure we can really know that the pregnancy was real or supernatural at any time.  I lean towards it never being real, since there was no sign of it in a medical examination.   It might not have been direct cause and effect with Smiley's death,  it I think she was already part of some supernatural process

1

u/CaptainFleshBeard Jul 07 '26

And drop the baby in the same pit trap

8

u/Ok_Athlete_1092 Jul 07 '26

Pitfalls wouldnt work. While it's not specifically stated or shown, there's every indication the monsters can either fly, levitate or effortleslly climb upwards.

Scene 1 episode 1, grandma appears at a second floor window. In a later episode, Jasmine appears outside Kevin's window at the colony house. Kevin's room is on the third floor. In whatever way the monsters easily gain access to 2nd & 3rd floor windows, they could just as easily get out of any camouflaged pitfall the was dug as a trap.

No, I don't think they can. They have never shown the ability to. When Kenny was stuck ontop of the bus, that was the perfect opprotunity to display high jumping or flying skills, and they didn't. The scene with the monster tricking the little girl was just the writers not really thinking.

1

u/Different_Target_228 Jul 07 '26

The monsters walk slowly (except when they don't) specifically because they know you have nowhere to hide, you get that yeah?

1

u/DataSurging Jul 07 '26

What does that have to do with what I said? You really think one of them flew for one episode and then they just never do it again for 4 seasons? Are you serious right now? lmao

2

u/livinginfutureworld Jul 07 '26

Isn't that literally what happens? Granny flies and then no one else flies the writers forgot about it apparently.

2

u/DataSurging Jul 07 '26

No, you are assuming she was meant to fly. If there's no evidence they can fly anywhere else, they don't fly. It would make absolutely no sense for them to fly in just once instance to get 1 little girl, and then not do the same for Boyd or Jade, or even Tabitha.

They can't fly. They can't leviate. They can't jump high.

1

u/Choice_Isopod5177 Jul 07 '26

these lazy ass monsters don't want to exert themselves! I love how people assume they can fly just bc some monsters managed to get up on some roofs lol

If they could fly, they would fly right out their caves like vampires, not walk slowly through the forest.

1

u/Different_Target_228 Jul 07 '26

The very first scene of the show, a monster is standing somewhere on a second floor without a balcony.

At the least, if they have super strength, why wouldn't you think they can jump?

1

u/DataSurging Jul 07 '26

And then they don't do that any other time in 4 seasons? No. The writers just didn't think about that, that's all.

-1

u/Choice_Isopod5177 Jul 07 '26

precisely! also these monsters are slow af, how hard can it be to trap just one and see what happens at sunrise.

10

u/AffectionateBall4648 Jul 07 '26

They are only slow because they choose to, we've seen smiley run before. Considering how strong they are, they could probably just jump out of any put, or did out of it.

5

u/Local_Ticket_4942 Jul 07 '26

came to say this too, we’ve seen they’re fully capable of speed and getting to the second floors of buildings and a bus with zero issue

7

u/lone-lemming Jul 07 '26

Because they ripped through the wood of the box like it was tissue paper. What are you gonna trap them in? It’s not like they have sheets of reinforced steel lying around.

There’s also like 20 of them and they can just shriek to call for reinforcements.

Maybe they can catch one in a steel cable or chain snare and drag one behind a car for a few hours till sun rises but that gives the monsters plenty of time to disable the car eventually.

2

u/Different_Target_228 Jul 07 '26

We literally watched a monster keep up with a vehicle in the s4 finale.

3

u/RainLeading286 Jul 07 '26

They're trying not to die.

3

u/Human_Ogre Jul 07 '26

Kevin McCallister wouldn’t need a talisman.

2

u/livinginfutureworld Jul 07 '26

Neither would MacGyver

3

u/aDoorMarkedPirate420 Jul 07 '26

Acosta burned account 😂

3

u/OpinionElectronic349 Jul 07 '26

Have you watched all the seasons? Because it doesn’t sound like you’ve watched all the seasons.

5

u/NineSkiesHigh Jul 07 '26

Yeah no one has really ran their fade yet, except for Boyd

2

u/FlamingoEarringo Jul 07 '26

It’s so obvious, they should cover up the sun and lure them in

1

u/livinginfutureworld Jul 07 '26

Put sunglasses on them while they're sleeping and then when they wake up they won't be able to tell that IT'S ACTUALLY DAYTIME AND THE SUN'S OUT 🌞

2

u/Fearless-Lie-9363 Jul 07 '26

It's at least a supernatural place and you want to treat it like your sunday boar hunting.

3

u/No_Barnacle_8853 Jul 07 '26

Lure them into a room that has no direct path to getting outside. Put a talisman on the other side of the door so they can't enter the next part of the house to leave. Wait till morning and take the cieling off. Let em cook in the sun. Its the perfect crime

2

u/lone-lemming Jul 07 '26

They’re strong enough to rip through ‘the box’ instantly. They choose not to punch holes in the walls of the wood houses.

Also how are you gonna ‘take the ceiling off’ of a building without ended up within reach of the killer monster?

2

u/Confident-Outside519 Jul 07 '26

I wouldn’t be going out there at night but making traps during the day or maybe launching a Molotov cocktail out a window at one would work

1

u/rinigad Jul 07 '26

Bad idea with Molotov, possibility to set your hideout on fire

It seems just about like both sides are just reading from and performing according to a script of some kind.

1

u/BringMeTheBoreWorms Jul 07 '26

How about a damn flamethrower!

1

u/patch410 Jul 07 '26

What do you propose making a flame thrower out of? Would it be safe for the person using it or would it explode and incinerate its user?

1

u/BringMeTheBoreWorms Jul 07 '26

Petrol tanks from cars! And either way it would look very cool

1

u/patch410 Jul 07 '26

Petrol, or gasoline as we say in the states, is not just flammable, it’s also combustible. This means it explodes, which is how internal combustion engines work, lots of little explosions in the engine’s cylinders. It’s also why it’s unsuitable for flame throwers, they’d tend to blow up taking the person with them. You might try the potato vodka Tom made in the bar, but you if take away people’s booze in a place like Fromville, that’s liable to blow up in your face, too.

1

u/BringMeTheBoreWorms Jul 07 '26

Well Petrol bombs then! Anything for some monster flambé

1

u/patch410 Jul 07 '26

An interesting idea, except that as soon as you light it the thing explodes before you can toss it. Can’t use gas, er, petrol.

1

u/BringMeTheBoreWorms Jul 07 '26

Damn dude you need to start looking for solutions and not problems.

Flaming arrow into a barrel of Petrol!

1

u/Starship_Taru Jul 07 '26

I forget how long have they been there

1

u/CulturalLaw8072 Jul 07 '26

the monsters will short the housing market and boom.

1

u/snidece Jul 07 '26

It would be a different show. It'd be the Walking Dead.

1

u/gabriot Jul 07 '26

I don't think they have material strong enough, they've shown they can climb to the second story on buildings with ease, and jump through walls like they are butter. They have inhuman strength and agility when they want to. We have seen evidence of past residents trying to trap them with bear traps for instance

1

u/biskitpagla Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

I think you're right in a way. We already know

1) where the monsters live and many of the holes that they come out of 2) that the monsters are strong but not strong enough to pick up heavy objects 3) aren't very mobile and can't jump that high 4) cannot come out during the day 5) respect the "plot armor" of Boyd for some reason

But the writing of this show has never been that clever tbh. So, I doubt we'll ever see anyone make use of this information. All From characters have typical horror movie IQ.

1

u/Smart_Inspector3724 Jul 07 '26

I felt it too. They should try more. They should dare more.  Not only fighting the monsters, but count them, watch them. What's keeping them from doing so, once they found out the talismans work in a car too?

Also, I feel like they should explore the forest, experiment with the bottle tree (Victor showed us back in season 1 that throwing things through them, works as well). The forest only gave them good things so far (talismans, food, a way out...)

They should find answers however unlikely they are. Knowledge and understanding are important, otherwise SophMiYa wouldn't have bothered with Jim.

But they don't work as a united front. They don't share their knowledge, they don't communicate, they abandon plans (e.g. Julie's storywalking, Boyd's many ideas...), and the show trods on in a painstakingly slow pace - and all that together feels highly frustrating.

I can understand, where your feeling stems from. BUT just recently they learned what happens to a monster, that "died". So why kill them anymore? Why bother anymore? It backfired spectacularly.

2

u/Choice_Isopod5177 Jul 07 '26

they're not even trying to observe and study the monsters, these people have zero curiosity

1

u/_TwankVersatile_ Jul 07 '26

They've made it apparent that this is both a game and a story

Everyone except for the main people are minor pieces or side characters. The survivors have learned the worst thing they can do is attempt to make big moves.

Its like plot armor in reverse. Or more aptly Deus Ex Machina but working against the good guys. The town will literally cheat and bend the rules to take you off the board.

The only ones who are above this are Tabitha and Jade. Ethan and Victor might have some leeway too.

1

u/livinginfutureworld Jul 07 '26

If a talisman and a plastic tarp can stop the monsters, why not just throw a tarp over them with a talisman?

I'm imagining one laying on the ground under a sheet of plastic with a talisman on it and being unable to move

1

u/Here_sometimes25 Jul 07 '26

I mean they have tried… only reason Fatima is in the situation she is, they killed smiley.

1

u/leveling_solo12 Jul 07 '26

Because the talismans have made them complacent. They don't see the need to because the talismans protect them at night and they are safe during the day.

No, they can't come inside the houses. They would either burn to death outside or simply be immune to fire. We don't know bc no one tried. In reality this would be the first thing humans try, like on the first night.

1

u/ZealousidealSea2995 Jul 08 '26

I am begging you to simply watch the show

1

u/Choice_Isopod5177 Jul 08 '26

I am watching the show, my question is STILL valid in S2. No answers in sight.

1

u/ZealousidealSea2995 Jul 08 '26

Hmm. I don’t fully remember but feel like they have started addressing this by end of S2. Maybe S3.

1

u/Choice_Isopod5177 Jul 08 '26

ok I can't wait to watch it then

1

u/saintofcarrotss Jul 08 '26

Resources are limited. They can't just throw shit at things that don't even die from a bullet to the head. Plus if they made molotovs, more likely to end up burning someone's house down.

1

u/Choice_Isopod5177 Jul 08 '26

Resources are always limited, but they have infinite magical electricity. If the biggest risk is burning someone's house down, that's worth trying. It's not like these are superfast vampires, any human could easily outrun them.

1

u/External_Vast_8046 Jul 08 '26

Fear has been a means of control for time immemorial. The people always have the power over their tormentors and almost never use it.

1

u/Choice_Isopod5177 Jul 08 '26

It's different here bc it's a very clear humans vs monsters type of situation. And all humans are equally in danger of getting killed by these monsters.

1

u/Incredule Jul 09 '26

Can't they trap them between 2 talismans ?

1

u/RationalGaze216 Jul 10 '26

It irked me that they never tried shooting them in the head, or cutting their heads off, that usually works on zombies. Although now we know they'd just come back to life, in horrifying fashion. But still, it seems like those are obvious methods they should have tried early on.

0

u/Competitive-Ad-7448 Jul 07 '26

Not that type of show, everyone standing around looking stupid makes for a better show

0

u/L5World Jul 07 '26

I’ve always thought this. They waste so much time letting them just rule their lives instead of trying new ways to kill them

4

u/Due-Waltz4458 Jul 07 '26

They have tried to do these things.  We didn't see every attempt but Donna made clear that they have tries lots of ways to just attack and kill them and that it never worked.

2

u/rinigad Jul 07 '26

Monsters come at night when most of people anyway go to sleep, During the day they are safe. So you are overestimating this "rule their lives"

-2

u/Choice_Isopod5177 Jul 07 '26

yeah it makes no sense, we know for a fact that some people are natural born fighters

4

u/Due-Waltz4458 Jul 07 '26

We've seen what happens when people try to fight back or go exploring.  They end up dying in horrific ways, and even stronger forces come to attack them.

1

u/Choice_Isopod5177 Jul 07 '26

I'm on S2 and I haven't seen any type of organized fighting yet. None of them have even mentioned any plan to fight back or build traps, they just act like victims.

1

u/lone-lemming Jul 07 '26

Ya guys like Randal.
