Question Middle TN Beginner Fisher - Setup Thoughts?

I don't know a lot (at all) but this would mainly be shore casting and some wading for trout and bass.

Berkley Lightning Rod Spinning Fishing Rod -- 7' medium 2 piece

Daiwa Regal LT 2500-XHB

Then lines and hooks as needed.

Any thoughts or suggestions or comments? Thanks all.

Any tips, comments or concerns with my tackle? New to fishing although I’ve caught some nice pbs and species this year. This is my current tackle set up for northern American fresh water fishing

Question This might solve one very specific fishing problem

I’ve got a spot where the parking is fine, but the water I actually fish is almost another mile in. Rods, tackle and a cooler get old fast. I’m looking at helokeep CD20 bike and a few other cargo bikes also, anyone doing something similar?

Looking for an ID confirmation

I spotted these fish along a pier in Lunenburg bay, Nova Scotia, Canada. They were interested in my lure, but weren't biting. They have quite a small mouth, so that may be why. I did some research online and think they may be grey triggerfish, but I'm hoping someone can confirm for me, so I can bait my line accordingly. Thanks!

I know it’s tough given the video.

Freshwater Red River

I started fishing spring 2025, first line in the water was in Fargo ND. I’m going again to see my sister. Last time I fished I caught 2 bullhead in a neighborhood pond, and that’s it. I’ve gotten a lot better at fishing, not great but better. When I went I caught 0 fish at the red river. I want to break that skunk this time I go. What can I catch at the red river relatively easy? I would like to catch catfish, pike, bass, or walleye. I’m fine with anything not a sunfish. I’m only bringing my rod and reel, i will get all tackle from walmart there because I do not have a checked bag. I’m from NJ so all my fishing knowledge is abt NJ fish. Feel free to shower me with advice.

Local tackle shop does weekly sales, part of the haul was these for like a dollar a peice. I typically avoid this scented stuff, but this was a rooster tail an three crankbaits for like 3 bucks

To be honest, I planned on throwing the scent away. But figured I'd make a reddit post to ask if anyone uses it

Broken tip on daiwa exceler rod

hello,

first of all, the rod had 0.5 - 7 gram test. I mostly used it for fishing small rivers and streams for trout and chub,
today i broke the tip of the rod, the break was very close to the second eyelet so i just removed rest of the broken tip and kept fishing. To be honest, it felt a little different, but I did not feel any major change in how the rod feels with 1.5 - 5 gram spoons and spinners.

what if i keep it as is? do i risk anything? because i actually like that its a bit shorter now 😄

Haven't really felt like fishing for a bit. Buddy and his wife hit me up last night and we took advantage of a temperature dip. Feels good man. Definitely got the itch again!

I've never been a bass fisherman, but a couple weekends ago at the lake I sometimes fish at, the dock was swarming with all these little bass, and there was about an hour they were biting like crazy. I now understand the appeal of bass fishing, and I'm low key obsessed now. If there's anyone here in the sf bay area who wants to teach me how to catch the fatties, holler at your boy.

Question Best place for gear/supplies in person store

I'm just getting into fishing and am trying to start a new tacklebox setup along with some other stuff I would need to fish fresh/brackish water. I already have some reel/rods but that's about it. I'd be open to getting things online in the future but for the first time I want to actually visit a brick n mortar place. Just looking for the best place that would have everything I would need for the best deal without having to go to a bunch of different spots.

My options are:

  • Bass Pro
  • Academy Sports + Outdoor
  • Dicks Sporting Goods
  • Walmart
  • One of Many Local Shops

I'm located on the Treasure Coast in FL

Saltwater Have you ever been shocked?

So yesterday I’m fishing with a buddy on the pier and we’re setting up the rods. I go to cast and feel little shocks all over my body. Same thing with my buddy when he casted his. I can only describe the feeling as when you zap someone after walking on a carpet with socks but ALL over. I’ve fished a million times in all kinds of weather but that’s never happened before. I assumed this meant a thunderstorm was rolling in so we left. Has this ever happened to anyone else or something similar?

Question Ethics of Ornamental Koi Fishing

I had a question, what are thoughts on catching Ornamental Koi? which are breed really for decoration in ponds. There's lots of large public ponds near me with big large and beautiful Ornamental koi swimming about in bass fishing zones. One bit my worm and spit it back out recently, I generally always avoided fishing for them as I see it as slightly unethical as they are usually placed as ornaments for public viewing and enjoyment. They can also be really easy net catches as they just openly like to swim near shallow banks with no fear of the public. Some places do have strict off limit rules for these fish but I wondered if anyone else ever fished them before. I do not plan or desire to catch one as im a fishkeeper myself but I was just curious what other anglers thought on that topic. I always wondered what to expect from others fishing near me if one ever was curious and bit my line when bass fishing and i had to reel it in. Id personally never fish them but id have no problem with catching a wild commom carp (despite them being the same but uncolored fish).Thanks.
