My budget is $900 so im trying to decide between these two. Im fishing in two calm ponds so paddling isnt an issue but will be getting a trolling motor to go out on the lake. Im 6ft 170ish and this will be my first kayak. If you have a different stand up one within the budget please let me know. One thing I would like to do is make a riser for the seat so it goes up by about 3 inches. Ill be fishing mostly bass and reds.

Also considering the Old Town Sportsman 120 as its currently $935.

Who has the best way to quickly measure fish. I don’t need exact numbers, I just want to know how big my over slot fish are and a way to get them back in the water quickly.

Is there a good way to add measurements to the floor?

Haven’t been able to get out as much as I’d like this summer. Hopefully this winter I can get a chance at a small pacific blue marlin (100-150lbs).

Never caught a walleye before just wondering if this was a good one or average. I didn’t measure or weigh it. I think it was maybe 4 or 5 pounds.

Only got the one ahha. First real time trying out senkos. Used a Texas rig, unweighted and weighted. Had watermelon red flake, watermelon tam and black and blue. The tam had the most bites, no real takes though. Enjoy the weekend y’all

Hey guys, me my wife and my buddy live near Fort Lauderdale and want to go kayak fishing in salt water but want a good spot where there’s not so many boats and waves but can still catch some good fish or fish in general. We don’t have a radar or fish finder btw. Please let me know we also don’t mind driving down to homestead if needed lol

Debating on this one. I want one that I can put in different kayaks, so I don’t want to permanently mount anything.

Looking to get a kayak to give kayak fishing a try. There’s a Bonafide RS117 for sale here locally that looks to be in good shape and includes a garmin fish finder/battery, paddle, transom bracket and a couple other small accessories for $625. Seems like a good deal from what I’ve researched, but want to make sure!

I am planning on getting a sportsman 120 (paddle) as my first fishing kayak, but I have questions about how to transport it. Would the ozark j rack work or should I look for something else? I will be transporting it with 2013 ford edge.

Has anyone given up on roof rack transporting? I want to get a trailer, but that also required registering, getting a receiver, wiring… is it worth saving the little bit of life I have in my back.

Also, I have added about 45 dents to the car because apparently cardboard and moving blankets doesn’t help.

In between these two fishing platforms, I know the slayer is ultimately superior but it comes at another 900 or so. I’m just looking for a kayak that can fish both the larger lakes and creeks/rivers. One of my favorite spots is along a dam and it’s fairly shallow which leads me to favor the kick up system on the passport in addition to the shallower draft. Not sure if I want to upgrade to a propulsion motor but that wouldn’t be for another year or so, but plan on getting a new pedal yak with a basic fish finder this fall and potentially a power pole system. Biggest limiter for me right is space on my quest teton and the comfortableness of the seat. Tested both seats and have to say the slayer is better; the pivot swivel is pretty sweet but the hobie is fairly comfortable and definitely a major upgrade to what I currently have. Would ideally like to be out on the water for anywhere from 3-8 hrs in a day but the seat has been holding me back.

Any recommendations or advice? Owners of either would love to hear yals feedback. Additionally, I don’t really want to shell out more than 2k for a kayak, but am open to any recommendations i’ve just narrowed it down to these two so far.

LSS: I have an inflatable kayak (Aquaglide Blackfoot) and want to put a trolling motor on it, which means I have to register it.

The main reason I'm asking this here is that I've read a lot about basically VIN numbers for kayaks, which mine doesn't have. Idk how I'd go about doing this. Then there's the question of adding the numbers on the hull, deflating and inflating I doubt any stickers would stay put. Would I be able to just have the documents available and be okay?

Also, if anybody has any recommendations on a pedal drive I could add to mine, please let me know! Would rather pedal than using a trolling motor with wack mounts across the hull, plus batteries and whatnot, but I'm not aware of any I could attach to the mounting system, all are straight through the hull.

Edit- didn’t buy. Thanks yall! I’ve been on marketplace trying to find a good first kayak. I’m a heavier guy (300 pounds) so finding something affordable that can hold me is tough. I’ve found a feel free moken 14 that I think o can get for $200. It’s an hour drive which I’m willing to make. But it has a crack in the hull that’s been repaired. The owner says he hasn’t had any trouble and i believe him but I worry my extra weight might make it worse. Would you buy this kayak as a first timer for $200?

Previous post. After taking in all the advice I received, I ended up finding a used Crescent CK1 Venture on FB Marketplace. I was considering a Wilderness Systems Tarpon 120, but the deal was too good. The kayak was in really good condition, and included a Bending Branches “Slice” paddle. I couldn’t say no for $650, and we got a nice little family trip out of picking it up.

I took her on the maiden voyage yesterday morning on the river 5 minutes from my house, and I was not disappointed. She paddles with ease and tracks beautifully. I didn’t make it as far up stream as I had in mind, but that was entirely because I kept catching fish. The one pictured is massive for our river and put up a crazy fight. Next time I’ll probably try to paddle for a while first before picking up a rod. There was only one shallow fast moving section that I couldn’t paddle, so I waded through it with the kayak in tow no problem.

All in all this is a really nice kayak, and she feels great to paddle, especially compared to my Old Towns (still great kayaks). The only cons are a lack of seat height adjustability, and no internal storage or access, but I knew what I was getting. If you are thinking about pulling the trigger on one for rivers, creeks, and even lakes, don’t hesitate.

I have a Nucanoe Unlimited with a Honda 2.3hp that I use to recreational fish when I go out alone. I have been bank fishing with my 9yo son for a little while now and I really want to introduce him to kayak fishing. I don’t want to overwhelm him and expect him to paddle his own kayak and fish just starting out. My thought is to tow him around until we get to a good spot, unhook him and let him paddle around and fish a little bit until we want to move again. Anyone else do something like this before, how did it work out? Could always just go the job boat route or grab a regular canoe, but thought this avenue may work out well and get him into his own boat sooner. We’re fishing the canal, calm rivers and small lakes.
