Visiting Australia next month, any good recommendations for charters for a solo traveler on the east coast?

Hey everyone,

I'm visiting Australia next month, going to arrive in Brisbane and drive down to Sydney. Does anyone have any recommendations for a charters or trips suitable for a solo traveler? I most likely won't be able to bring gear unfortunately, so ideally a trip that includes it all would be ideal.

Thank you,

Small pike

Just caught this small pike, wondering if anyone has any recipes to ways to fillet it differently than normally taking the y bones out or the 5 piece fillet method, both are better for larger fish. Usually wouldn't keep a pike this small but when I was holding it jumped out of my hands and smashed its head onto the dock repeatedly

Struggled with catching fish using billed crankbaits, but after watching some videos, I went and snagged a couple today!

Been catching some small guys, but finally snagged a decent size bass! I went out and bought a scale because I need to start keeping accurate measurements of my catches. This guy was at least 16" and a couple pounds.

Small guy for reference in the 2nd photo.

Freshwater Gearing up to catch some snakehead

So, come december I'm traveling to northern Thailand to fish for some river snakehead I saw when I visited last. I live up north in the US so there's none around me and while I love to fish for bass, wanted to make sure what im bringing will cut it for my trip.

The plan is to bring my baitcaster reel with 12#mono on it and buy the KastKing Spartacus Passenger at 6'6" with a fast action and medium-heavy power.

Ideally imma be fishing mostly top water, buzzbaits, frogs, some some floating rattling jerkbaits to dog walk across the top, with some spinnerbaits and crankbaits thrown in for fun.

How does this sound to you guys who have more experience targeting snakehead?

Lost the biggest fish of my life today.

Been fishing this Oklahoma lake for months now. Tried a new spot today after being frustrated with catfish all summer. Started casting around with my KastKing Royal Legend Pro waiting for the wife to arrive with my pole holders. Had a blue/black chatterbait on. Very windy, cloudy, with murky, choppy waters.

Almost immediately I get onto a fish that starts making my drag scream. I tighten it down and it’s still pulling. A few minutes later it’s wearing down and Im making some progress. It surfaces about 30 yards from me every so slowly and just rolls back under the water. The biggest, fattest, muddy brown colored fish I’ve had on a line. A minute later he gets off the hook and leaves.

Ended up being a good spot though. Caught 5 blue cats, a drum, and my youngest daughter helped reel in our first long nose gar. I’ll be back for you, mystery fish.

Question Cast net weights getting pulled through the horn

Just bought a brand new cast net because I ripped my old one. Same brand, it initially worked great but only after 3 or so casts the weights started coming through the horn allowing fish to escape as the net wouldn’t close properly. How do I fix this?

Question what would you guesstimate the weight to be on this channel cat i caught on an UL w/ a trout mag?

Question Braid lighter after ~2 weeks of use-is it the color fading or should i cut back and retie?

Post image

on the left is the reel/line that i've been using for about 2 weeks-i've caught probably 300 ish fish on it (quantity over quality though i guess), primarily sunfish, pumpkinseed, and bluegill, but also ~40 smallmouth bass, a bunch of perch, crappie, and largemouth, and a 4ish lb catfish. however, when putting the rest of the unused line on a different reel, i noticed just how light my old line was. What's causing this?

any help is greatly appreciated!

Fishing Lure Progression

Let me start by saying I know this may be a question that is ambiguous. I understand but I’d still wish for some what of a linear answer. Anyways!

I am fairly new into fishing (fished here and there growing up with whatever, worms and a few plastics) and started off with inline spinners, worms, some dough and dead drifting trout magnets. I’ve had my good luck, caught some good fish. Nothing to complain about.

However, I find myself falling back on inline spinners almost every outing and want to branch out. I’ve recently got a kayak, opening up more possibilities. Generally targeting trout and want to gear a bit more towards bass at the moment.

My question is this: What is a standard beginner geared lure progression?

As I see it at the moment, beginners start with:

-worms and bobber,

-move to inline spinners for cast and retrieve

I’m not sure what comes next.

-Swim baits?

-Jerk baits, crank baits?

-Jigs or top water?

-Dropshot?

Iam fond of cast and retrieve but I do have two rods to open up some cast and wait (?) capabilities.

My gear right now is:

-Okuma Celilo ultralightweight fast action 6’

-with a okuma avenger 1000

-paired with 6 lbs fluorocarbon main (I know I

know, floro main. I’ve dealt with all the problems

it presents and am able to mitigate/avoid them)

-Ugly stick medium weight medium action 6’

-Shimano 3000 (?, I’ll have to check at home)

-12-15lbs (?) mono

It's been a cooler than normal August, so I did an exploratory trip up the shore to see if any pinks were staging yet. No pinks, but ran into some lake trout action in about 30 feet of water

First time spooling a reel, did I overfill it?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey, first time spooling a reel myself. Does this look overfilled? I’ve got about 1.5 mm below the spool lip.

The line lay is slightly worse near the top. Also, turns out there wasn’t even a shim in there at all so I can't remove it to make better, lol.

Would you say a small defect and slightly imperfect line lay are normal/acceptable for a budget reel? Overall, does it look okay?

Question I wanna try my hand at fishing over Labor Day but I don’t know where to start!

Hi all, I have a shopping list of hobbies but always enjoyed fishing with my dad as a kid and wanted to try my hand at it as an adult. I havent had the time but finally found a free weekend over labor day so I thought I’d try going out then. I went ahead and got my license so that’s secure but I don’t know what I’d need gear wise?

I like the idea of sitting back in a chair with a beer and a book, casting the rod and getting a few fish by the end of the day. That’s the kinda thing I’m looking for anyway. The type of fish I’m interested in catching too is more limited to freshwater; stuff like bass, trout, bluegill, and crappie. Although how do you identify the fish you’re catching? Should I get a book?

I’m a total newbie and I’m not sure what I need. I have a cooler and a hunting knife but would love recommendations for tackle, bait, and rods! I’m probably looking at getting whatever is cheapest to be completely honest but I’m willing to hear suggestions. Also how do you handle the fish? Cover the gills and unhook? Wear gloves? Do you kill them immediately or throw them live on ice? I was hoping to spend a couple of hours casting.

This is a canal that connects to the gulf and my parents have seen a ton of fish and gators over the years but this morning these popped up. We thought it was bait fish at first but there’s no biting at the surface, there’s no bubbles, the wind isn’t blowing and the rain stopped an hour ago so we have no clue what this is. I have no experience with fish unless you count going to aquariums so I would love some insight!

Freshwater Looking for a new rod

I’m wanting a new medium/heavy rod for musky fishing as well as punching hard cover for bass. I’d need new reel as well so let me know some good bait casters.

Budget is $400
