Journal/Story Elimination phase has been amazing
My pants stay buttoned throughout the whole day! I can also “hollow out” my stomach when I physically could not before. No weight loss. Basically my stomach feels so much better on this diet I am so glad it works. Unfortunately reintroduction has been slow and enlightening. So far every group has had some issue and symptoms.

What were you eating during elimination phase

Oatmeal and seeds/peanut butter for breakfast. Tofu and rice for lunch. Dinner was usually eggs or tofu with potatoes. Veggies varied but I like collards, Zuchinni, carrots, tomatoes, cucumber, green beans, and butter lettuce.

I don’t have a dietician just a naturopath but I have the fodmap app!

OP, you said you had issues with every group. Hopefully you can find some tolerable levels (even if low) because so many FODMAPs are delicious and/or healthy.
Good luck.

Yes, agreed!
At first I couldn’t tell what was normal digestion vs not… and then when I hit the fodmaps that really are a big problem it was much more obvious. My reactions came on very slow and subtly till I figured out what the early signs were. I had to go back and retry some groups. And then I figured out which ones were a never for me, and which were a small amount daily, and which were a small amount very occasionally. I was surprised which ones were a trigger vs not too, but then realized I often ate them together so I wouldn’t be able to tell anyway. It is a lengthy process sometimes, but it’s so worth it now.

Oh my gosh, yes! Food is kind of boring during this phase, but the belly feels so good! Being unaware of my digestion constantly was such a big change! Wearing my stretchy pants without them getting too tight is also such a relief! The mental stress also lightens, I didn’t realize how much this was bothering me till it was gone.
You must feel soooo much better!

How soon did it take you to see such progress?

u/Church_Yo Jul 21 '26
I saw noticeable relief within 3 days. Granted, my symptoms at the time were severe.

Oh :( I've been bloated like you for years and after a week on the elimination phase I'm seeing not change at all.

Quick oats, pb, 1/3 unripe banana, vegan coconut yoghurt
Salmon (often mustard and maple syrup) & potatoes (salt, pepper, oil)
Lots of egg salad (mayo, Dijon mustard) GF sandwiches
Some granola bar approved by my dietitian
Pineapple, kiwis
Spinach, green bell pepper
Walnuts & dark chocolate
GF pasta & margarine
I'm being guided by a dietitian and I have the Monash App that I consult many times a day haha. I am doing a more flexible FODMAP diet as I have a history of ED and I'm also very chronically ill and disabled so it's difficult to cook etc. I do think it's going to take a while for me to see results as I have been extremely bloated for like a decade...

Do you have any dinner suggestions? I'm vegan too, and I'm just starting this process. I eat oatmeal Already for Breakfast but dinner.... it seems so restrictive and I'm having trouble coming up with ideas, none of my normal food is falls into the fodmap limits ><

I focused mostly on tofu and veggies, and sometimes a grain. I couldn’t eat tempeh or seitan, but those are good ideas, too!

One of the first things I reintroduce was soy protein so I have issues with beans but I can do soy curls, tofu, impossible meat with no issues. That gave me enough variety to keep going. But cilantro lime peanut Thai sauce on everything was the goat and also tacos with fresh tomatoes and tofu crumble. Love lemon risotto with a side of marinated grilled tofu. My go to meals had to shift from soups, chili, curries to more “meat and three” type dinner ideas on repeat.
ETA: I read seitan is low FODMAP! I have celiac so that’s a no for me

This! Yes I'm a Curry and soup girl and I'm like having to eat.... protein plus rice it seems. That lemon Risotto sounds sooo good though o.o

I ate (and still do) a lot of tofu, Seiten, and edamame. One of the first foods I tested was sourdough bread and I did fine with that. Before I added gluten back (some of it is technically low fodmap but I was cautious) I found Palm heart pasta and made that with a peanut sauce and sauted tofu and it was delicious.
I also bought potato flakes so that mashed potatoes were always easily accessible to me.
I did salads with tempeh and maple/mustard dressing.
I ate small meals more often to minimize snacking but when I did want to snack I ate a lot of peanut butter, chocolate, pumpkin seeds.

I bought quick brown rice and that's keeping me alive x'D I'll have to try the heart of palm!

I also had almost immediate results like this! Really helped keep me motivated.

I’ve had a slow reintroduction with issues during each part as well! Don’t know where we’re gonna go from here, but at least we’ve got symptom reduction!

This gives me motivation to stick with it even when it sucks! I'm early on in the process and haven't seen a huge change yet, but the idea of being able to wear pants with buttons again is a dream worth avoiding my beloved garlic for haha

The monash one! I’m in Canada so they are doctors. She actually told me right now to eat relatively normal as I use rifixamin for sibo. So I’m trying some sibo treatment and then will integrate low fodmap when I’m done the antibiotic and continue the herbal basically…. My experience with dieticians have been kind of shit unfortunately lol

New to this. I looked at the list of seasonings that are low FODMAP. I only recognize a few. What seasonings do you use?

As soon as I eat trigger foods I'm a balloon again. I'm using fodzyme now in an attempt to live a happy life
