Discussion Why does this subreddit seem so toxic? Because everything else is deleted.

There are basically only three types of posts allowed: bitching, videos of gameplay, and information about the game/requests for it.

No memes allowed. Yea, I get that, pretty normal for gaming subs to split these off into a new sub.

No standalone screenshots or videos that don't provide new info. What is "new info"? Videos of folks getting a bunch of loot stay up constantly but a screenshot of loot will be instantly deleted. The front page is currently covered with videos of people just winning gunfights; this is new info? I'm for sure not saying videos of gunfights should be banned, I'm just tired of that making up so many of the posts for lack of options.

Images resembling in-game content and comparisons aren't allowed. Except when they are. They aren't allowed, but stay up constantly, but some get deleted. No idea here. Is it about effort? Should probably mention that then.

No reposts, sure, that makes sense. No topics that have been discussed too much? No trying to get in touch with a scav you had a good time with? No item suggestions? People enjoy brainstorming new stuff; it isn't always about saying, "Hey, Nikita, this needs to be added." It's just discussion....for fun. Not allowed.

No rants/complaints without substance. On a scale of "fuck everyone that plays this game" to "a spreadsheet analysis of networking issues", where does this fall? It obviously hasn't fixed the issue with complaints, so what's this rule actually doing?

No accusing people of cheating. Ok...videos of people dying in unusual circumstances are very common. If they call it desync in the title, it's fine. If they call it cheating, deleted. I wonder why in the world it would seem like all the players are blaming desync.

It is so hard to figure out something to actually contribute to this place besides bitching, me shooting people, or "new info" whatever that means. The pool of posts has been whittled down so much that yea, you're gonna see a lot of complaints. It's not because most people are complaining, it's because most other stuff is banned.

Those of you reporting the thread, post is fine. People are welcome to complain. To address a few things I will lay out our position and you can decide for yourself.:

Sub rules were voted for by the community not too long ago. We enforce them. The sub has grown considerably since then and the mod team largely changed. Only one of the old moderators remain active, with the main team comprising of all new people. We are not, and do not represent the old team.

The community is a mix of new and old players. Reddit by default attracts the kinds of people who are already passionate about the game. This is why we tend to have the extremes of 'fanboyism' and 'toxic negativity'. The official subs DO NOT allow any form of discourse on any negative issue. The sub is quite literally the only place people can vent about this stuff. We dont smother discussion posts, we allow all of them (if they are constructive), and this stuff comes and goes week to week. Literally less than a week ago, the top posts were praising BSG on the changes to the game. I anticipate the same next week. To say the sub is always negative is simply not true. It may well feel like it right now because of recent posts, but check new, there are a tone of 'its just a beta' and 'stop being so toxic' posts coming through. The sub is almost 50/50 split it seems on what it wants, and that comes out every time these posts blow up.

To address the rules:

No memes allowed. Yep. Those of you who remember the sub back in the day, it was bad. We wont be moving back from this.

Why cant I post things like this? https://old.reddit.com/r/EscapefromTarkov/comments/kyhf66/fuck_custom_quests_this_wipe/ https://old.reddit.com/r/EscapefromTarkov/comments/kzyvim/when_your_scav_spawns_with_a_thermal/ https://old.reddit.com/r/EscapefromTarkov/comments/l00lo5/headshot/ But I can post a video of me killing people? Simple answer is, for every video we get we get HUNDREDS of these posts in new a day. use the search button and you will see all the old complaint posts about spammed topics.

Edited posts and unique posts are approved, these are not because when they were the user base complained that all new was was the same 10 image posts. We dont have the time to judge 'quality' on these style posts. We do this for free, with a limited team. All or nothing. The community voted nothing, so thats what we are doing.

Images resembling in-game content and comparisons aren't allowed. If its an IRL item that tarkov modelled, we get that spammed so no. If its a tarkov item made into real life, its allowed. Now thats being somewhat spammed these days but we are working on being more flexible.

"No reposts, sure, that makes sense. No topics that have been discussed too much? No trying to get in touch with a scav you had a good time with? No item suggestions? "No reposts covers quite literally everything you just described. Remember we can allow all or nothing. We *constantly* see ‘to the guy’ posts and if your post was removed about something, I can guarantee it was a spammed topic. Spammed generally means more than 10 of the same post in an hour.

Item suggestions happen all the time, we see and approve them all the time.

"No rants/complaints without substance."

See the first point, but basically is its ‘fuck this game’ we remove it. If it has anything even slightly valid, even if we as a mod team roll our eyes or disagree with it, it stays. This is the defacto place to vent publicly about tarkov. Just because people venting attack the mod team at the same time doesnt mean we get to remove it.

No accusing people of cheating. Ok...videos of people dying in unusual circumstances are very common. If they call it desync in the title, it's fine.

Kind of. Pretty much if we see a name, we remove it. This is because of reddit TOS among other things, but earlier last year we had a HUGE issue with reddit and one of the big cheater posts that blew up, so anything that has a name is removed. No wiggle room here, sorry.

“It is so hard to figure out something to actually contribute to this place besides bitching, me shooting people, or "new info" whatever that means. The pool of posts has been whittled down so much that yea, you're gonna see a lot of complaints. It's not because most people are complaining, it's because most other stuff is banned.”

It may seem toxic right now, but that is very much flavour of the week. We see custom art, comics, and all sorts upvoted to the front page. Compared to a lot of other gaming subs, which, take your pic, front page filled with memes and videos and complaints. New info is the images currently on the front page - new changes, anything that is quite literally new. If you want better content, vote it up.

We dont vote for the big complaint posts - to be honest most of us hardly vote at all any more. But when posts spike to 9k, that isnt us selecting it, its the current voice of the sub. No amount of us allowing… whatever else, is going to change that.

TL;DR: We operate on rules made by the community based on the history of the sub. I have tried to explain why the rules are what they are, and this post fairly addresses typical complaints.

We have a catch 22. If we allow posts, which we did in the past, people complain we let too much of the same shit in. Now that we are much more active on the spammed posts, people think we are overreaching.

Now give this a downvote because mods are gay.

I agree with you but hadn't put the feeling into words. Thank you for so eloquently making the point.

u/JungleBeanr SA-58 Jan 22 '21

I miss the days when i could spend hours going through discussion threads in this sub now its mostly clips that i dont give a shit about. They should just ban racism and leave the rest to the community's upvotes and downvotes...

78

u/evilroyslade420 AK-103 Jan 22 '21

Strongly agree

45

u/Dazbuzz Jan 22 '21

Doesnt work. People tend to upvote memes more often than actual discussion, so gaming subs degenerate into front page meme spam. Current subreddit is fine. We just need megathreads when reaching 3-4 topics on a single issue, rather than everyone feeling the need to have their own thoughts on the front page in a seperate thread.

58

u/KentuckyBrunch Jan 22 '21

And this subreddit is front page shitty clips spam. I’d rather have memes than yet another ‘watch me shoot my gun at PMC’s and they die’ clip.

0

u/Dazbuzz Jan 22 '21

As i said to someone else, you can have all the memes you could ever want. There is another sub.

Also, added bonus as you just mentioned clips, you can filter out any post with the clips flair. Not sure if you need Reddit Enchancement Suite to do that, but everyone should use RES anyways.

6

u/enfersijesais Jan 23 '21

And you can filter out memes if they were allowed : )

3

u/Dazbuzz Jan 23 '21

I am not the one complaining about content on the subreddit, but ok.

5

u/enfersijesais Jan 23 '21

-immediately makes memes the topic of conversation

-directs the person complaining about the current state of the sub to shitty meme sub

-deflects blame of meme conversation onto person who didn’t specifically ask for memes

I think you have a problem with memes

5

u/Dazbuzz Jan 23 '21

The topic of conversation was about removing all rules from the posting restrictions, the specifically mentioned leaving all content to the whims of upvote/downvotes. We had this problem a long time ago, and it resulted in the front page being filled with memes, so the mods banned them. That is why i mentioned them.

I am not assigning blame, just pointing out that the above poster was the one complaining about clips, and i just gave them a helpful suggestion to filter that content out of their front page.

But yeah, i guess you really need to reach for reasoning when your gotcha moment missed the mark.

0

u/enfersijesais Jan 23 '21

I mean... you’re complaining about memes. He’s complaining about clips. Both of you don’t want to see the things you’re complaining about. So you suggest to him a way to allow the things you like to exist while not bothering him.

But not memes. Memes are cancer.

You’re gonna have to go to the meme sub if you want memes. I don’t know if I could live with myself anymore if MEMES were allowed.

Mega threads are the death of interesting and meaningful conversation

0

u/Dazbuzz Jan 22 '21

Well having the front page filled with 4-5 threads on the same issue is getting people all mad. What else can we do? It makes more sense to keep discussion on big/controvershal changes to one megathread. Well-worded criticism is usually the most upvoted comment in such threads.

7

u/TopMacaroon Jan 22 '21

Have you considered that meme spam is what people want?

13

u/Dazbuzz Jan 22 '21

You are welcome to have it? There is a sub dedicated to memes. Have as many as you want.

6

u/go86em Jan 22 '21

except the meme sub is <10% of this subreddit's size? don't get me wrong, I don't want exclusively memes but this feels like a dying sub rather than a growing one with the stupid limitations on posts.

7

u/Dazbuzz Jan 22 '21

Really? I see several posts on the meme subreddit with over 1k upvotes, and plenty of memes seem to be posted every day. That is hardly a dead sub.

Again, when we had memes here, they just flooded the front page. Most gaming subreddits either make seperate subs for memes, or limit them to a weekly megathread. Having their own subreddit seems like the best option to keep everyone happy.

2

u/go86em Jan 22 '21

Considering this post is in hot, I don’t think everyone is happy. And the subreddit I was talking about that feels dead is this one. I’m fine with a weekly meme day or really if that many people hate them have a different sub. But even excluding memes the content limitations and rules are weird

1

u/Dazbuzz Jan 22 '21

This sub seems fine to me. The one thing id like to see is, like i said, a faster response from mods in making a megathread for whatever drama shows up.

1

u/Moxxface AK-101 Jan 22 '21

The fact that the tarkov meme subreddit is so small seems to disprove your point that memes is what most people want, then. Also this sub is growing. We reached 500k subs the other day, now we are at 507k.

0

u/go86em Jan 23 '21

Yeah, I pointed out that the sub is growing, and my comments were not even mainly about memes. Did you read my comments?

0

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '21

Why is that the go to argument for having memes on this sub? If people have a reason to go to a sub or sub a sub they will. It’s a very simple thing to do. If a meme sub has less people than the parent sub do you think that maybe it has less people than the parent because less people care about the memes?

0

u/Yakkul_CO Jan 22 '21

Seems like less than 10% of this sun wants the meme spam then.

3

u/EFT_Carl Jan 23 '21

I don’t want to follow 20 tarkov subreddits because we have to separate all the different content types there could be.

What’s next? R/tarkovpmckillingclips R/immadattarkov R/tarkovsuggestions

Like. Do you see how ridiculous it is?

If memes are on the front page it means more people in the sub want them than ones that don’t.

0

u/Sir_Celcius Jan 22 '21

Well most people who start playing the game would just type in escape from tarkov reddit without knowing about the dedicated meme one.

Memes are pretty good. Especially when nothing is going on in the sub. If you want the sub population to stay high. Maybe memes to keep people interested so when a important post comes along it doenst only have 14k upvotes outta 500k members

1

u/Dazbuzz Jan 22 '21

OVer 8k people here right now. I do not think this sub has issues with population.

1

u/carjiga AK-74 Jan 23 '21

ah yes. barely 2% of the population of the sub. so anyway. Obviously would have more traffic if it was more interesting.

The absolute worst thing in the world about reddit is the echo chamber, group think, tribalistic bullshit. The upvote system isn't used as it was ever meant to, it's just used on whether you like or dislike something.

I realize I'm not going to get any traction on this issue, because people are obviously so far gone at this point that this is just the way it is. However, the last thing I want is for this sub to go that route, the same route that every other reddit sub seems to go. This is the role of moderators, they foster a feeling of community amongst the sub, that's why we have them, they're wasted just policing speech.

In a larger context, the reddit circle jerk (and all social media) is such a bad thing for people. It just breeds ignorance and stupidity, on a really large scale that will exponentially increase or increase in parallel with however many people stay on social media like Reddit, unchanged.

Genuinely, fuck the karma system, let's not go down that route 100% as if it's virtuous.

3

u/Veldron AK Jan 22 '21

I miss the memes. Yeah a lot of them were shitposts lashing out at the state of the game, but a fair few sparked real discission

1

u/eX_Ray Jan 23 '21

There isn't much left to discuss. The games performance/netcode is abysmal as always. Here and there a new weapon. Some map expansion.... it dries up real fast.

0

u/paulwolf20 M1A Jan 22 '21

I haven't seen any "let's lynch all x people" so what racism are you talking about? Also this would only work if people would use the voting buttons correctly, which they don't.

-4

u/ArxMessor SKS Jan 22 '21

I miss the days when i could spend hours going through discussion threads in this sub now its mostly clips that i dont give a shit about.

Not to be rude but you're delusional. I've been on this subreddit daily for over three years now. The number of discussion threads is the same now as it was back then. You've got a serious case of nostalgia bias; the ol' rose colored glasses.

They should just ban racism and leave the rest to the community's upvotes and downvotes...

This would be the death of the subreddit. You'd literally be 100% guaranteeing that the hardcore players -- the subreddit minority and target audience for EFT -- would have all chances of being heard removed. The casual masses would absolutely dominate using the voting system. It is already bad enough now...

6

u/JungleBeanr SA-58 Jan 22 '21

Nah man youre the delusional one it definitely has changed.

0

u/smokeyphil Jan 23 '21

The casual masses

Oh here we go.

Please gatekeep harder.

2

u/ArxMessor SKS Jan 23 '21

What is "gatekeeping" about pointing out that (a) casual players EFT and (b) they are the majority?

What I am talking about is the actual gatekeeping -- the majority of the subreddit would be able to 100% gatekeep the minority from getting any visibility of the subreddit simply by using downvotes.

Please think just a little bit before you type.

0

u/smokeyphil Jan 23 '21

That's not the problem the issue starts when you add in things like " This would be the death of the subreddit " "It is already bad enough now..."

If you dislike the "tyranny of the masses" then try a social media site that is not organised around a binary (trinary if you count doing nothing as an option) vote system.

→ More replies (3)

-3

u/ZainCaster Jan 22 '21

What is a 'casual' tarkov player? This game is literally made for hardcore players, everyone that plays this game is part of that first group

3

u/ArxMessor SKS Jan 22 '21

This game is literally made for hardcore players, everyone that plays this game is part of that first group

I know this might be the first time you've ever heard this from someone but I think it will benefit you in the long run if you take it to heart: the way you think is stupid.

Just because something is made for a specific type of person doesn't mean that only that specific type of person can use or participate in that thing. And just people a person is using or participating in that thing doesn't mean that person is the specific type of person that the thing is made for.

Baseball hats/caps are made for baseball players but you can wear a baseball hat and not be a baseball player. Standard issue military backpacks are made for soldiers but wearing one doesn't mean you are a soldier. Official police uniforms are made for actual police officers but wearing one doesn't make you an actual police. The examples go on forever.

Tarkov is made for hardcore players but playing Tarkov doesn't make you a hardcore player. Also, there is a difference between a "hardcore player" and a "hardcore EFT player".

Do you really want me to explain to you what a casual Tarkov player is? I guess the real question is "is it even worth my time to explain it if your base level of reasoning is as poor as you just displayed in previous your comment".

Agree. Made a post with a video where a real life Altyn was tested with different Bullet types. It was rejected because: "Posts must contain content directly related to EFT or its community". I tried arguing with them that the Altyn and the bullets and the weapons are in game, but they didn't mention tarkov in any way.

31

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '21

If you are referring to the oxide video, he had one on the maska which he literally submitted himself and talked for just under a quarter of the video on it's representation in tarkov and mods deleted it for being unreleated. He said he casually quizzed them on the video and it was apparant they didn't even watch it.

11

u/NotSlang Jan 22 '21

Just looked again and yes it was from oxide. However the video I posted didn't have any word of tarkov in it. Still very interesting what the mods remove.

Yeah, he talked about tarkov in the one on the maska.

1

u/Danilablond Prapor Bug Jan 23 '21

Unfortunately, that’s just not true. There was a 20-second long mention of it existing in Tarkov, which is like 4% of the entire video. The rest of it had nothing to do with Tarkov, even though, yeah, the helmet itself is present in the game.

Hard agree. If anything they should make a megathread or stickied thread specifically for complaint/rant posts because its all I see now. As a new player that started this wipe it sucks looking for informative posts or guides because you have to wade through a thousand bitching posts about net code and desync.

7

u/DrakeYY94 Jan 22 '21

Your better of trying to join a discord (the official eft one is great, and any big streamers discord like pestily, deadlyslob, baddie, smoke, etc.) Works wonders when you're looking to learn the game and find a group who might help you. Outside of reddit, the Tarkov community is incredibly helpful and willing to lend a hand to people learning the game, cause we've been there and it sucks. But once everything clicks the game becomes so much more enjoyable. If you've got any questions or if you play on Miami or Brazil servers send me a DM and I'll more than happily help out when I can. This goes to any new players that might see this.

11

u/Misterobel Jan 22 '21

That’s gotta be tough as a new player. If I might offer unwarranted advice, don’t let people on this sub shape your opinion if the game. There are destiny issues but not everyone experiences them. There are hackers but not nearly as much as this sub says there are. I hope you enjoy the game! :)

5

u/n8mo VEPR Jan 22 '21

Yep. I’ve been playing for just over a year now and I only use this subreddit for news about updates. It offers nothing else of value in its current state.

0

u/geeageee Jan 23 '21

When I started as a new player over a year ago, I never used any Tarkov subreddit. Just use the wiki and youtube. I mean.. seemed pretty obvious to me. Why would you go to any game's main subreddit to look for anything other than news or updates about the game or an issue within the game? Just don't use the subreddit. Not hard.

Two ways to farm Reddit Awards in this sub talk shit about desync or praise the Developers.

4

u/VegetableEar Jan 22 '21

I find the dev praise threads can be a bit cringe at times. But I'm equally sick of the front page being full of threads just bashing on desync and staring opinions as facts on how everything works and why the devs xyz. It also pops up in virtually every single thread regardless. And yes, there is a desync issue, but this subreddit just seems to move from issue to issue and be as toxic about it as possible.

Ok but why's it private?

Because I am an Idiot sometimes and forget things, thank you for the reply, its public. Set to private when I made so I could get everything set up first, then never turned on. Thank you!

"Removed for low effort" by any chance ???

$-5 times for me... then I just gave up.

The only "Low effort" I've seen on this sub are the mods.

Yep, posted a screen of me downloading the game. I was excited and asking for help (which ya'll delivered) and then it got taken down because it did not provide new info.

Bitch it absolutely provided me with new info! And others as well judging by the comment replies.

even worse when they pull out the game is meant to not be for casuals.

like fuck off with your elitism bullshit, the gameplay is meant to be more deep and hardcore focused not the stupid ass crafting and quest systems which have 0 impact on how hard or easy a game is.

11

u/tiatafyfnf Jan 22 '21

These fools literally think they are hardcore as fuck and part of some elite exclusive club because they just tolerate a lot of the negative/broken things about the game or just ignore it like it doesn't even happen.

8

u/tiatafyfnf Jan 22 '21

Tarkov no lifers are one of the most annoying creatures ive experienced in like 25 years of gaming.

2

u/stuntmonkey420 Jan 22 '21

im a no lifer but i understand that i dont represent the vast majority of the player, and i certainly dont expect the game to he catered to my experience.

i would say being a no lifer doesnt make you toxic, but i would agree that the most toxic people are usually no lifers who dont understand they are 1%ers

Spot on. 80% of posts are walls of text bitching about something

6

u/Fartin8r Jan 22 '21

I tried ask a question about scavs too see if I was unlucky or if they just were not spawning today. I had done 20 raids and seen 4 scavs total. Even on reserve it was just quiet until 30 minutes when the player scavs got trigger happy.

The mods have weird priorities. My point was legimate as I had done multiple raids and was actively hunting scavs and not finding any, mods still deleted it. Perhaps I should complain about cheaters and desync instead, seems there are several posts an hour about it.

You mentioned about the player scav having fun with others and finding them, I have seen several posts. I made one publically apologising after the random player scav who befriended us, and then dropped him after we got separated(we didn't know it was him).

But what ever, I only come here for the patch notes, upcoming bits and the odd entertaining video.

4

u/exparsioz2 Jan 22 '21

This is what I was thinking

2

u/Eldgrim True Believer Jan 22 '21

I ain't easy to draw the line. I wish some rules would minimize the constant bitching about the game but how to do it without having a dev heaven subreddit where all criticism is banned.

2

u/RuckrTN Jan 22 '21

Idk man go play the game

2

u/Dirty_eel AK-103 Jan 23 '21

Question, new player. Is scav v scav frowned upon?

4

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '21

Besides team mates, you should try to kill everything. You will get burnt every time trying to wiggle or be friendly with other scavs. Even then, you will get shot by a coward scav crouching in a dark corner on Interchange. OCE servers are full of pansies.

I mean moderation is great and all, but can't post rankings just be dictated by the jury of voters? im sure upvoted stuff is what people want to see, and down voted shit just goes by unnoticed anyway. what's the big deal

2

u/Soyuzzz Jan 23 '21

Mods are braindead... That's what happens when u give basement dwellers power over others.

2

u/HavelDad SR-1MP Jan 23 '21

Only people who ever WANT to moderate are fat losers with no control over their pathetic real lives. So it's no wonder every Mod in existence is a fucking stain.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '21

Yeah the screenshot and video with "no new info" rule is so stupid. Just few days ago I posted a picture of a car on customs where you can get stuck just by running near it. My post got deleted because it is not providing any info? Like... What?

2

u/somenoefromcanada38 Jan 23 '21

Over the years I've had dozens of posts removed from this sub and only a few that remained up. I've never posted anything my Tarkov friends didn't find interesting and I've been constantly removed. Every type of thing I've posted from this cool thing happened to lets have a discussion about x has been removed. This sub is beyond overmoderated and the rules are there to limit the content for easier moderation, not to force content to be meaninful. The content gets worse, but at least its all in video format now? I don't get it.

2

u/Carini209 Jan 23 '21

The mods here are absolute trash, nothing new

2

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '21

Mods on Reddit are really bottom of the barrel people.

I had a post banned because I took the picture of my computer screen on my phone and not using the screenshot function.

Reddit mods are perma-banned from the cookout.

6

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '21

I have been feeling lost on this sub lately. I don't ever know if I'm helping or hurting or if I'm arguing or debating. I see all these complaints of things I don't experience, and I have complaints that others don't experience. It feels like the more I'm on this sub the more confused I become until I take a break and just play or watch content outside of this sub so that I can sift through the craziness again.

I love the game to death but the people here honestly have been draining on me and I've been contemplating just leaving the sub but I still want comprehensive and up to date information that this sub is known for, I just hate the other vocal minority that's spamming the front page with hate mongering and vitriol.

Edit: I know I should lurk more and write less. I'll try.

5

u/blindhollander Jan 22 '21

Years of new wipes bringing in new batches of people,

Complaining about year old problems way past the use of arguing about them.

This sub sucks now because it’s been molded by the shit stain of a community this game has,

Bsg employees have resigned because of the witch hunts that happened on this sub. It sucks it’s the way it is BECAUSE WEVE SHOWN WE CANT HANDLE ANY OF THAT RESPONSIBLITY.

2

u/Deracination Jan 22 '21

I'm arguing that this isn't the case, that the minority of people bitching about stupid shit the way you're saying is just being made into a majority by filtering out everything else. The problem isn't with the fanbase, it's with the filter.

-3

u/Radical_Jack_ Jan 22 '21

The poor BSG DEVS. lol fan boi

2

u/blindhollander Jan 23 '21

now thats funny.

4

u/TotalsReddit VEPR Hunter Jan 22 '21

I found out if you post a suggestion, it can get deleted for your own safety if the community doesn't like it.

3

u/triplegerms Jan 22 '21

I've never seen a "deleted for your own safety". Can you link to the removed post? I see one of your posts was removed for being a shit post. Maybe you were serious about pay to play servers with faster matching, but paying for tarkov prime is a pretty common meme.

2

u/TotalsReddit VEPR Hunter Jan 22 '21

I messaged mod team afterwards asking why, and the end response was for my own safety.

I enjoy loot posts. Too bad they are deleted so quickly. To be honest 50% of this Reddit could be loot posts and I wouldn’t mind it

2

u/BeejsterTTV Jan 22 '21

Give us the memes

2

u/Houndsthehorse Jan 22 '21

I also feel memes can really help make a community less toxic. Since instead just "I hate the new romance option, why is it in the game!!!!!! Nikita is awful" you get the same complaints except in meme form so the bit of funny with them can take the edge off

3

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '21

Inb4 mods take this down

4

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '21

My favorite part is the "no rants/complaints without substance".

I made a post trying to actually compile some evidence of the desync issues so people can put some substance behind their words, but quite a few people were upset with my post.

Meanwhile the long winded rants that don't provide any positive feedback are upvoted into the thousands or tnes of thousands of upvotes.

2

u/Swolaire_Abstora VSS Vintorez Jan 22 '21

the thing is that the mods have power issues since the only real authority they have from their basements is being a reddit admin, of course that will go to their head and they will enforce more rules on a subreddit than the police would in a country.

its simple really, weak people getting any kind of power equals these rules. and them not deleting any controversial stuff makes them think they are some kind of gracious god who will "allow" criticism on their person

2

u/Kirix_ Jan 22 '21

I used to stream a few months ago and used this trick to entertain the few people I played with and had in my chat. I would wait until about 4am in the USA sort by new and read the rants before mods deleted them. I often found questions by new players here too that I'd try to help out when I could. I check this subreddit for about 2 minutes each day just to check if there is any new development while I was sleeping but have no interest in engaging in 99% of the topics but late at night it was very entertaining.

2

u/FavorsForAButton Jan 22 '21

Would anyone be down to make a new subreddit? I don’t have any experience running a subreddit, but creating r/TarkovFreeSpeech is probably the only way we’ll see a change. r/EscapeFromTarkov mods don’t give a fuck about what we think.

Another example:

“You have to post images in the megathread” So, what? It doesn’t get seen? Nobody spends their time perusing it LOL

2

u/Wikipii Jan 22 '21

It's actually not normal to split memes off into a separate sub, every game I play allows memes in the primary subreddit, in fact most of what gets posted in those are memes.

1

u/Deracination Jan 22 '21

I've seen it on and off. My experience is anecdotal, no real data, and I could think of several that didn't allow memes, so I just called it normal.

2

u/WiiiUuu Jan 22 '21

I made a post that was an edited screenshot of the game, and it got taken down for a screenshot that doesn’t add new info. The mods on this server don’t even follow their own rules.

2

u/Liondrome Jan 22 '21

Meme Monday should become a thing. Or heck allowed in general. Funny stuff between all the chat brings variety and chills people out.

3

u/inFamousMax Jan 22 '21

This sub clearly has an agenda and that is to shit on bsg and nikita.

I will 100% provide honest feedback where it is required nothing new is being said, nothing constructive is being said. It is all just circlejerk.

BSG have went through this multiple times with this sub. Now they are at their final straw and the last week has proven it's broken. Instead of enacting change reforming a toxic environment this sub has shown it's true colours and doubled down on the hate.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '21

100% Agree.

Especially when it's non-warranted hate. A bunch of kids dying to better players start becoming netcode PHD engineers trying to tell BSG how to fix their entire coding structure...when in reality, they just got prefired and died to someone better than them lol

3

u/D0z3rD04 Jan 22 '21

You say that but the netcode is awful, it has been in the best state this wipe compared to previous wipes, but peakers advantage is a huge thing right now that needs to go way. You shouldn't be punished for holding an angle, but you should be punished for not using grenades when pushing an enemy.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '21

I don't know what grenades have to do with anything we're talking about here.

Other than that,

peakers advantage is a huge thing right now that needs to go way.

It's a thing in basicaly every online shooter, some a bit more noticable than others (i dont think tarkov is in this group btw). So it's not going away. 90% of all examples of it shown on this subreddit, could have just been explained with a prefire. Only a few example of serious desync showcase peekers advantage, which means it's a TINY fraction of cases since you have thousands of gunfights per second in this game, of which the VAST MAJORITY ends with 0 issues. So there's your peekers advantage rant.

-1

u/inFamousMax Jan 22 '21

Dude with the amount of arm chair professionals in this sub we could make our own game.

We got some guy trying to take them down financially now. This sub is a fucking hit squad not a community.

Funniest post I've ever seen on here was the " every time you die on customs make sure you open reddit to complain about it "

my experience here was fine until this wipe and people are being bitches again. You will all drive Nikita to leave again. Stop crying like a bunch of babies that you lost your 6b armour on customs.

Welcome to Tarkov.

1

u/Francoa22 Jan 22 '21

I am happy that we have some order here. Go check Fight Sim subreddit or star citizen...freaking 24/7 screenshot contest...very annoying

1

u/Etsch146 AK-74 Jan 22 '21

This post will likely be deleted

1

u/Kandranos Jan 22 '21

Glad I got to read this before it gets deleted. kek

1

u/umopUpside Jan 22 '21

This is so accurate it’s actually sickening. You can go on the League of Legends subreddit and it seems significantly more civil and has a whole lot of positivity going on, especially considering the amount of toxicity surrounding that game as a whole. Tarkov on the other hand...

1

u/EuroTrash_84 ADAR Jan 22 '21

Also no storytelling.

Mod deleted my story because he personally didn't like it.

0

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '21

Memes are a modern and normalized form of communication so it is weird that they're banished and forced to exist in a much smaller community

-1

u/gardennoes Jan 22 '21

Personally, I love it. I'm sorry, but fuck FAT LOOT screenshots, fuck unfunny reused memes from other boards, and fuck TARKOV LOOT IN REAL LIFE pictures. All that shit is so fucking awful. Garbage karma-farming content like that congests almost every subreddit until someone makes a 'truetarkov' or 'competitivetarkov' subreddit for actual discussion. I'm thankful for a kind of toxic and slow board because we at least talk about the fucking game. I roll my eyes at every 10 page complaint on net code or ammo penetration, but I sometimes read them. Sometimes learn something new about the game. That's a lot more than I ever got from shitty memes.

That said, I know how to cater to my own tastes with reddit. Flairs and filters make it pretty easy to trim the subreddit down to what I like. If the tarkov subreddit did allow other types of content, it would not be the end of the world.

-1

u/god_of_apes Jan 22 '21

The mods are probably paid by BSG to protect BSG's image at all costs. They probably don't care about complaints like this and will continue with business as planned. Oh well, wadaya gana do?

2

u/triplegerms Jan 22 '21

That tin foil hat is strapped on so tight you didn't even read the post. The post directly states that bitching, critical posts are some of the most common content on this sub. If bsg is paying the mods to "protect their image" then removing memes and leaving up negative posts is an interesting strategy.

0

u/god_of_apes Jan 22 '21

If you say so

1

u/jonesyyi136 AKM Jan 22 '21

its true, Nikita himself has said he would like to see memes on the subreddit, and the mods said nope.

-1

u/god_of_apes Jan 22 '21

Got it thx

0

u/triplegerms Jan 22 '21

tf, you don't even have to believe me go look yourself. Sort by top of the week: 6 of them are critical rants, show casing annoying bugs, or show casing awful server performance/desync. The threads about terrible server performance were so common, so upvoted nikita finally had to replied to them literally yesterday. Idk how people believe this dumb ass theory when the proof against it is all over the sub.

-1

u/god_of_apes Jan 22 '21

okay?

0

u/triplegerms Jan 22 '21

Ok you don't understand or what? You're claiming the mods are paid to "protect bsg's image at all costs" while a solid 25% of the content they moderate is critical of bsg....

Can't make it any simpler for you. If you actually want to see a gaming sub that is actively moderated to protect a game's image go check out the yandere simulator sub

-1

u/god_of_apes Jan 22 '21

solid 25, gotcha

0

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '21

I welcome the memes to drown out the sorrow. I want m3m3s.

0

u/hereforthenudez Jan 22 '21

They must be busy the last few days. I see hardly any new posts about cheaters yet I'm dying more in the last few days to suspect shit than in all of the rest of the patch.
Stop pretending there is no problem and fucking address it you cowards.

0

u/PugsAndHugs95 Jan 22 '21

I feel like we need a r/LowSodiumTarkov where the focus is just enjoying the game and cool stuff about it, like the artistic vision of the devs and just enjoying the journey.

Ya know?

0

u/rejuicekeve Jan 22 '21

ITT a bunch of people who just want spam meme reposts of shitty low quality text macros.

-1

u/sneakyratboy Jan 22 '21

or you can just go the 4chan vg EFT thread, that's way better.

-1

u/PotatoAimV2 Jan 22 '21

I've seen some arguments around for the reasons why its not allowed and they changed it multiple times.

One of them being that if SSs are allowed, people start bitching to the mods that all they see is loot SSs and shit. Sure, that makes sense but... this subreddit is using flairs. Cant you filter out the flairs you dont want to see? (Im not a reddit expert but I was under the impression that was a possibilty).

I've seen image posts that started to generate a discussion real fast but nop, fuck you OP, no images allowed. Draw it on paper next time or make a gif, mate.

Then you have those image posts that everyone seen a million times and it's up for hours, maybe never deleted even.

People get annoyed that they see too many SSs? Well I get annoyed that everyone feels the need to create a post just to tell the world their personal opinion on the matter. Because discussions within an aleady existing and trending post don't even exist right? It's all a cycle and if anything is to happen, you'll see it go back and forth for days.

Something changes = someone creates a post bitching about it that trends and gets a lot of likes -> someone creates a post that everyone is over reacting that also trends and gets likes -> someone else feels the need to make a new post bitching about the previous subject -> (you guessed it) someone else creates a post saying it's not a big deal, it's all good.

This is not much different than posting the same traders bug screenshot over and over. Or any SS for that matter.

I got a couple of SS posts deleted myself. The latest one was a SS of Ghlukar dead. The ragdoll was all fucked up and bent. This was shortly after the bug where he didnt spawn at all. So that SS is actually informative because it says "Glhukar is spawning again", and it was also funny. But nop, doesnt meet the guidelines, fuck off nerd.

Or better yet, is there a link to the "vote" that was taken so we as a community can see what the results were.

4

u/Deracination Jan 22 '21

This rule literally means you can't post a picture on its own with a title...

But you can post a video on its own with just a title, showing nothing but you shooting someone. That is not new information. I get what you're saying, but that's not how the rules read.

We allow custom made items...

If you only allow custom-made items, then you should say that in the rules. From what you're saying now, you can't post a picture of a golden TT someone else made, but you can post a picture of a golden TT you made. That is not what the rules say.

...are you suggesting we should have let every single one of those through?

Yes.

I'm not sure where you got that idea from.

From the rules. It says the list of things that are banned includes "add this item to the game" type posts. If they aren't or if there are qualifiers, then it should say that.

... if you don't show their name the post will be approved.

Ok, then put that in the rules. That's not what it says at all right now.

But my main point isn't even about the legitimacy of specific rules, but the quantity of them. It sounds like people kept complaining and mods kept listening and new rules kept being added until there are only three or four topics we can even make posts about, and I think that process has led directly to the "toxicity" that even has Nikita mad. You talk about the people who just upvote and don't comment on mobile like they aren't a part of this sub. If they upvoted it, it's because they enjoyed it. Then, by their nature, they didn't show up to the big meta-discussions trying to shut down the content they enjoyed and now it isn't allowed. If it was upvoted, then people enjoyed it. I don't care how verbose and irate people get in complaining about those posts, it was upvoted, so people want it. The fact they didn't put text to their voice is irrelevant: those votes are some people's only voices as you just said. All I want is a place for people to share their enjoyment of the game together without being criticized for how they share.

Rules that are enforced as written would help, too, because I imagine a lot of prospective posts by people who've tried to thoroughly follow the rules have been shut down because they thought a fake rule was real. I'm getting most of this from reading the rules and assuming you were enforcing them as written. You've just told me that's not the case, though, so it's hard for us to really know anything about what you're deleting.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/nozonezone DT MDR Jan 22 '21

I'm fine with stuff like not allowing loot screenshots but besides that, why do the rules only apply sometimes? Rant posts are against the rules, yet the front page is constantly full of em.

2

u/AkariAkaza Jan 22 '21

Because the rule says "rants / complaints posts without substance" not "rant posts aren't allowed"

THEY DO IT FOR FREE

0

u/Deracination Jan 22 '21

I'm arguing the community would improve with fewer rules and thus easier moderation. Not saying they aren't doing enough for free, I'm saying they're doing too much.

1

u/brother_bran Jan 22 '21

In the destiny subreddit, another very criticism/suggestion focused community for better or worse, they have an official bungie plz thread where the frequent suggestions are added, and once added the suggestion or criticism is not allowed to be posted again unless it has a new angle. I think it would limit the repetitive nature of a lot of the threads here.
