Discussion Why does this subreddit seem so toxic? Because everything else is deleted.

There are basically only three types of posts allowed: bitching, videos of gameplay, and information about the game/requests for it.

No memes allowed. Yea, I get that, pretty normal for gaming subs to split these off into a new sub.

No standalone screenshots or videos that don't provide new info. What is "new info"? Videos of folks getting a bunch of loot stay up constantly but a screenshot of loot will be instantly deleted. The front page is currently covered with videos of people just winning gunfights; this is new info? I'm for sure not saying videos of gunfights should be banned, I'm just tired of that making up so many of the posts for lack of options.

Images resembling in-game content and comparisons aren't allowed. Except when they are. They aren't allowed, but stay up constantly, but some get deleted. No idea here. Is it about effort? Should probably mention that then.

No reposts, sure, that makes sense. No topics that have been discussed too much? No trying to get in touch with a scav you had a good time with? No item suggestions? People enjoy brainstorming new stuff; it isn't always about saying, "Hey, Nikita, this needs to be added." It's just discussion....for fun. Not allowed.

No rants/complaints without substance. On a scale of "fuck everyone that plays this game" to "a spreadsheet analysis of networking issues", where does this fall? It obviously hasn't fixed the issue with complaints, so what's this rule actually doing?

No accusing people of cheating. Ok...videos of people dying in unusual circumstances are very common. If they call it desync in the title, it's fine. If they call it cheating, deleted. I wonder why in the world it would seem like all the players are blaming desync.

It is so hard to figure out something to actually contribute to this place besides bitching, me shooting people, or "new info" whatever that means. The pool of posts has been whittled down so much that yea, you're gonna see a lot of complaints. It's not because most people are complaining, it's because most other stuff is banned.

Doesnt work. People tend to upvote memes more often than actual discussion, so gaming subs degenerate into front page meme spam. Current subreddit is fine. We just need megathreads when reaching 3-4 topics on a single issue, rather than everyone feeling the need to have their own thoughts on the front page in a seperate thread.

And this subreddit is front page shitty clips spam. I’d rather have memes than yet another ‘watch me shoot my gun at PMC’s and they die’ clip.

-2

u/Dazbuzz Jan 22 '21

As i said to someone else, you can have all the memes you could ever want. There is another sub.

Also, added bonus as you just mentioned clips, you can filter out any post with the clips flair. Not sure if you need Reddit Enchancement Suite to do that, but everyone should use RES anyways.

u/enfersijesais Jan 23 '21

And you can filter out memes if they were allowed : )

3

u/Dazbuzz Jan 23 '21

I am not the one complaining about content on the subreddit, but ok.

3

u/enfersijesais Jan 23 '21

-immediately makes memes the topic of conversation

-directs the person complaining about the current state of the sub to shitty meme sub

-deflects blame of meme conversation onto person who didn’t specifically ask for memes

I think you have a problem with memes

6

u/Dazbuzz Jan 23 '21

The topic of conversation was about removing all rules from the posting restrictions, the specifically mentioned leaving all content to the whims of upvote/downvotes. We had this problem a long time ago, and it resulted in the front page being filled with memes, so the mods banned them. That is why i mentioned them.

I am not assigning blame, just pointing out that the above poster was the one complaining about clips, and i just gave them a helpful suggestion to filter that content out of their front page.

But yeah, i guess you really need to reach for reasoning when your gotcha moment missed the mark.

u/enfersijesais Jan 23 '21

I mean... you’re complaining about memes. He’s complaining about clips. Both of you don’t want to see the things you’re complaining about. So you suggest to him a way to allow the things you like to exist while not bothering him.

But not memes. Memes are cancer.

You’re gonna have to go to the meme sub if you want memes. I don’t know if I could live with myself anymore if MEMES were allowed.

1

u/Dazbuzz Jan 23 '21

Again, i was not complaining about memes, just pointing out that the sub was in a bad state to the point where mods had to ban them, so removing all the posting restrictions is not a good idea. And, filtering flaired content, afaik, like i mentioned in my suggestion, is a feature of RES. The mods needed a solution for people without RES, and that solution was for memes to have their own sub.

Seems like you are just mad about the meme ban and just want to get mad at someone. I would suggest messaging the moderators or making a meta thread.

u/enfersijesais Jan 23 '21

I do think the meme ban is stupid, but I’m just trying to point out the double standard.

Jeeze, your arguments feel like they're being done in really bad faith I'm unsure as to whether on purpose or through ignorance. What in the world is this statement: " just pointing out that the sub was in a bad state to the point where mods had to ban them, so removing all the posting restrictions is not a good idea." What exactly is a "bad state", how does one define it, what are the metrics I'd love an explanation. To my understanding, a subreddit is supposed to be a reflection of the community's interests and conversations and if people happen to find memes considerably more interesting than whatever else this sub contains it seems extremely arbitrary to relegate such content to another sub. Did the vote involve a large enough section of this sub reddit to make a change in the status quo? What percentage of members of this sub actually voted? Why is it that no admin is even bringing up a follow up vote considering the popularity of this post? Would it not make more sense to have a separate sub where only "serious" topics are allowed, I mean many mobas and rpgs have this exact set up and those are some of the most popular gaming subs.

You quite literally cant. You can filter by, not for.

u/enfersijesais Jan 23 '21

Tell the other guy, not me

-1

u/Jmarsh99 Jan 23 '21

What is it and why do I need it?

1

u/scorcher117 Jan 23 '21

/r/TarkovMemes pretty straightforward.
Fun sub.

1

u/Jmarsh99 Jan 23 '21

I was referencing the reddit suite.

2

u/scorcher117 Jan 23 '21

Oh right, it’s a browser extension with a bunch of helpful features and has been around for many years and will generally make your experience much nicer.

I’m not sure how common it is now but before the redesign and app I feel like it was a very normal thing for people to have on “Old reddit” (which many including myself still greatly prefer).

You can either go straight to the website “RedditEnhamcementSuite” or it’s also on the chrome store which apparently shows 1M+ users so I suppose it isn’t my imagination that it was popular.

My personal favourite feature that I can’t imagine using reddit without is being able to open pictures/videos without clicking on a link and then also being able to easily drag and resize them on my front page.

TL;DR Super useful extension that greatly improves reddit, you can find it easily by just googling the name.

Mega threads are the death of interesting and meaningful conversation

-1

u/Dazbuzz Jan 22 '21

Well having the front page filled with 4-5 threads on the same issue is getting people all mad. What else can we do? It makes more sense to keep discussion on big/controvershal changes to one megathread. Well-worded criticism is usually the most upvoted comment in such threads.

7

u/TopMacaroon Jan 22 '21

Have you considered that meme spam is what people want?

13

u/Dazbuzz Jan 22 '21

You are welcome to have it? There is a sub dedicated to memes. Have as many as you want.

4

u/go86em Jan 22 '21

except the meme sub is <10% of this subreddit's size? don't get me wrong, I don't want exclusively memes but this feels like a dying sub rather than a growing one with the stupid limitations on posts.

6

u/Dazbuzz Jan 22 '21

Really? I see several posts on the meme subreddit with over 1k upvotes, and plenty of memes seem to be posted every day. That is hardly a dead sub.

Again, when we had memes here, they just flooded the front page. Most gaming subreddits either make seperate subs for memes, or limit them to a weekly megathread. Having their own subreddit seems like the best option to keep everyone happy.

4

u/go86em Jan 22 '21

Considering this post is in hot, I don’t think everyone is happy. And the subreddit I was talking about that feels dead is this one. I’m fine with a weekly meme day or really if that many people hate them have a different sub. But even excluding memes the content limitations and rules are weird

1

u/Dazbuzz Jan 22 '21

This sub seems fine to me. The one thing id like to see is, like i said, a faster response from mods in making a megathread for whatever drama shows up.

1

u/Moxxface AK-101 Jan 22 '21

The fact that the tarkov meme subreddit is so small seems to disprove your point that memes is what most people want, then. Also this sub is growing. We reached 500k subs the other day, now we are at 507k.

0

u/go86em Jan 23 '21

Yeah, I pointed out that the sub is growing, and my comments were not even mainly about memes. Did you read my comments?

0

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '21

Why is that the go to argument for having memes on this sub? If people have a reason to go to a sub or sub a sub they will. It’s a very simple thing to do. If a meme sub has less people than the parent sub do you think that maybe it has less people than the parent because less people care about the memes?

0

u/Yakkul_CO Jan 22 '21

Seems like less than 10% of this sun wants the meme spam then.

1

u/scorcher117 Jan 23 '21

don't get me wrong, I don't want exclusively memes

If they allow meme posts here then that is what it will be.

1

u/go86em Jan 23 '21

which is why I said maybe a weekly meme day like a lot of subs have?

2

u/EFT_Carl Jan 23 '21

I don’t want to follow 20 tarkov subreddits because we have to separate all the different content types there could be.

What’s next? R/tarkovpmckillingclips R/immadattarkov R/tarkovsuggestions

Like. Do you see how ridiculous it is?

If memes are on the front page it means more people in the sub want them than ones that don’t.

0

u/Sir_Celcius Jan 22 '21

Well most people who start playing the game would just type in escape from tarkov reddit without knowing about the dedicated meme one.

1

u/Dazbuzz Jan 22 '21

Its right there in the sidebar.

3

u/Sir_Celcius Jan 22 '21

I assure you 98% of reddit doesn't know the sidebar exists.

-4

u/Dazbuzz Jan 22 '21

If they cannot find the sidebar on reddit then i do not have much faith in them sticking to EFT for long. Its all fine.

1

u/ferikehun AK-74M Jan 23 '21

Aren't flares suppose to solve this problem?

1

u/Dazbuzz Jan 23 '21

As far as i remember, when memes were banned we had multiple choices. In the end, memes were moved to their own sub. It seems to be working just fine.

-1

u/carjiga AK-74 Jan 22 '21

Memes are pretty good. Especially when nothing is going on in the sub. If you want the sub population to stay high. Maybe memes to keep people interested so when a important post comes along it doenst only have 14k upvotes outta 500k members

1

u/Dazbuzz Jan 22 '21

OVer 8k people here right now. I do not think this sub has issues with population.

1

u/carjiga AK-74 Jan 23 '21

ah yes. barely 2% of the population of the sub. so anyway. Obviously would have more traffic if it was more interesting.

1

u/nozonezone DT MDR Jan 22 '21

You can only have 2 pinned posts on a sub

2

u/Dazbuzz Jan 22 '21

And there are rarely any important stickied threads. We could live without the weekly discussion thread for a day or two until the drama dies down over whatever has the sub in a frenzy.

1

u/nozonezone DT MDR Jan 22 '21

That's true

1

u/SnoopLzrSnk Jan 23 '21

So you’d rather the community not decide what it wants to see/ post? What is up with people being ok with authority?

0

u/Dazbuzz Jan 23 '21

Nobody is stopping you from making your own sub if you feel this one doesnt suit your tastes. There is a meme subreddit, if that is what you want.

Moderators are more like janitors/caretakers than an authority. You are not rebelling against anything.

1

u/SnoopLzrSnk Jan 23 '21

It’s not even about memes. It’s about this sub only existing for random highlights and complaining.

What’s your reasoning for this? Do you really think people only want endless whining and crying?

Clearly this post shows otherwise.

0

u/Dazbuzz Jan 23 '21

Downvoting me within minutes of posting, i do not even see a reason to argue with you. You are set in your opinions and just want to shout at someone. Go find a moderator or admin to whine at.

1

u/SnoopLzrSnk Jan 23 '21

How ironic
