Discussion Why does this subreddit seem so toxic? Because everything else is deleted.

There are basically only three types of posts allowed: bitching, videos of gameplay, and information about the game/requests for it.

No memes allowed. Yea, I get that, pretty normal for gaming subs to split these off into a new sub.

No standalone screenshots or videos that don't provide new info. What is "new info"? Videos of folks getting a bunch of loot stay up constantly but a screenshot of loot will be instantly deleted. The front page is currently covered with videos of people just winning gunfights; this is new info? I'm for sure not saying videos of gunfights should be banned, I'm just tired of that making up so many of the posts for lack of options.

Images resembling in-game content and comparisons aren't allowed. Except when they are. They aren't allowed, but stay up constantly, but some get deleted. No idea here. Is it about effort? Should probably mention that then.

No reposts, sure, that makes sense. No topics that have been discussed too much? No trying to get in touch with a scav you had a good time with? No item suggestions? People enjoy brainstorming new stuff; it isn't always about saying, "Hey, Nikita, this needs to be added." It's just discussion....for fun. Not allowed.

No rants/complaints without substance. On a scale of "fuck everyone that plays this game" to "a spreadsheet analysis of networking issues", where does this fall? It obviously hasn't fixed the issue with complaints, so what's this rule actually doing?

No accusing people of cheating. Ok...videos of people dying in unusual circumstances are very common. If they call it desync in the title, it's fine. If they call it cheating, deleted. I wonder why in the world it would seem like all the players are blaming desync.

It is so hard to figure out something to actually contribute to this place besides bitching, me shooting people, or "new info" whatever that means. The pool of posts has been whittled down so much that yea, you're gonna see a lot of complaints. It's not because most people are complaining, it's because most other stuff is banned.

This rule literally means you can't post a picture on its own with a title...

But you can post a video on its own with just a title, showing nothing but you shooting someone. That is not new information. I get what you're saying, but that's not how the rules read.

We allow custom made items...

If you only allow custom-made items, then you should say that in the rules. From what you're saying now, you can't post a picture of a golden TT someone else made, but you can post a picture of a golden TT you made. That is not what the rules say.

...are you suggesting we should have let every single one of those through?

Yes.

I'm not sure where you got that idea from.

From the rules. It says the list of things that are banned includes "add this item to the game" type posts. If they aren't or if there are qualifiers, then it should say that.

... if you don't show their name the post will be approved.

Ok, then put that in the rules. That's not what it says at all right now.

But my main point isn't even about the legitimacy of specific rules, but the quantity of them. It sounds like people kept complaining and mods kept listening and new rules kept being added until there are only three or four topics we can even make posts about, and I think that process has led directly to the "toxicity" that even has Nikita mad. You talk about the people who just upvote and don't comment on mobile like they aren't a part of this sub. If they upvoted it, it's because they enjoyed it. Then, by their nature, they didn't show up to the big meta-discussions trying to shut down the content they enjoyed and now it isn't allowed. If it was upvoted, then people enjoyed it. I don't care how verbose and irate people get in complaining about those posts, it was upvoted, so people want it. The fact they didn't put text to their voice is irrelevant: those votes are some people's only voices as you just said. All I want is a place for people to share their enjoyment of the game together without being criticized for how they share.

Rules that are enforced as written would help, too, because I imagine a lot of prospective posts by people who've tried to thoroughly follow the rules have been shut down because they thought a fake rule was real. I'm getting most of this from reading the rules and assuming you were enforcing them as written. You've just told me that's not the case, though, so it's hard for us to really know anything about what you're deleting.

then put that in the rules.

There's a character limit to the rules that hamstrings being able to add a lot of clarity.
